Quiet friendly neighborhood. Lead is a quaint small town with lots of charm. A rich mining history and outstanding outdoor activities describe the community that was first settled in 1876 during the Black Hills Gold Rush.

Tucked into the steep folds of the Black Hills of South Dakota, Lead is a place where you can escape from the world, an off-the-beaten path playground where one can enjoy the best outdoors fun… without the crowds! So if you are looking for adventure-filled year-round outdoor recreation, Lead might just be the perfect alternative you’ve been looking for.

The Black Hills Mining Museum and the Homestake Visitor Center are just two of the numerous attractions that must be visited when traveling to Lead. Hiking, mountain and road biking, trail running, hunting and fishing, automobile touring and sightseeing are among the summer activities in and around Lead. In the winter, downhill and cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing and snowmobiling are the outdoor activities of choice.

Lead is a small urban town with population of around 3,100.

Cars and motorcycles are good for the area, though the Deadwood Trolley will get you to a number of locations. Extensive biking system.

Walking distance from hiking and biking and only minutes from skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, atv trails. Plenty of off-street parking, great views.

Great place to stay, just as advertised. Very relaxing, had a Home Away from Home feel. Furnished with all necessities, and very spacious. Our kids enjoyed having there own living areas. Would stay there again if given the opportunity.

Great home in a quiet neighborhood. The home actually seemed more spacious in real life than it seemed in the photos, so we were pleasantly surprised! We had three families, and this place was perfect for us because each family could have their own space, yet we could all congregate in the three main family living areas. It was clean, modern, well-furnished, and the kitchen was well-supplied with appliances and utensils for cooking. We also enjoyed the tours offered in Lead related to the Homestake Mine. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

This home is beautiful, with plenty of space. The kitchen is equipped with the basics, so you can comfortably cook for yourself, pack lunches for the day, etc. It's in a good spot for starting out exploring, hiking, whatever. Very close to Deadwood. We would definitely stay here again. Host was wonderful!

Hi I'm Amy. I'm so glad you are considering staying at our vacation home. First about us, we have been married for 16 years and have two terrific kiddos. Our family loves to travel and we love to spend time at our house on top of the hill. We fell in love with South Dakota (Lead) and knew we would one day own a quaint old house - we got lucky finding our house - it was in the middle of a complete remodel and had only drywall up when we purchased it - from the texture to the furniture, we were able to make it ours. We live in Colorado on a small farm that keeps us busy along with "real" work and growing kid activities.
