Description

Woodruff Place was Indy's first suburb, a gated community platted in 1875 by a lumber merchant, hence three drives of large, frame Victorian homes, Fountains, statuary, trees, and flowers decorate the wide esplanades in each drive, beautiful in any season. My house is a three-story one-family home on a double lot. I have one double guest bedrooms on the second floor, comfortably furnished, with shared bathroom, kitchen and laundry access. I also have another room partially used for storage with a twin bed if needed. A covered deck is pleasant in good weather for relaxing.

Only 20 minutes from Indianapolis International Airport, my neighborhood is less than 2 miles from sports venues, museums, and restaurants of the central city, and a city bus stops just a few yards away. Off-street parking is also available. Half a mile away are the Monon Trail, the Cultural Trail, and the Mass Ave Arts District for walking or cycling. Mass Ave has many restaurants, pubs, shops, art galleries, and a bookstore, an excellent area to while away an afternoon or evening, especially on First Fridays.

From Woodruff Place there is also easy access to IUPUI and IU Health Medical Center for students and visitors,

Weekly or longer stays can be arranged. Let me know what your needs are..

Guests have access to the whole house, including kitchen and laundry facilities. There is one full shared bathroom and a half bath.

I live in the house which is large enough for guests to have privacy in a separate sitting room with TV if desired. I am always willing to engage in conversation or help with suggestions for places to eat nearby or places to visit in the city.

I believe I live in the best neighborhood in the city. Its three drives with esplanades, statuary and fountains and its large old houses never get old to me, even after over 40 years. It is full of friendly people and has been a great place for kids to grow up in the heart of the city. Several young couples of my son's generation have returned to raise their children here. (Nice to have grandparents close by too).

There is a bus stop a half block away which goes right downtown.

Linda was very pleasant and gave us a key to the house to come and go as we please. We wish we had more time to relax at the house-and definitely time to set on the porch on the Swing- love it! The coffee was very good. The neighborhood was beautiful and you will definitely want to walk around it and enjoy the historical neighborhood and homes....

Linda went out of her way to accommodate me as my plans changed and I had made an error in date. I had chose her place because of the neighborhood, one I have loved since teaching at the elementary school right behind her house many years ago. At that time that area was a little down at the heels. It was absolutely wonderful to see those marvelous old homes coming back. That neighborhood is a treasure. Linda and I talked and talked about so many things things, we are both former educators. She has an interesting life and is an excellent host. I would highly recommend her home. The bedroom was lovely with a comfortable bed and a nice rocking chair. I also enjoyed her front porch. I'd be happy to go back in the future.

This listing was exactly as described. Linda was very communicative beforehand, greeted us when we arrived, and provided above and beyond what we expected (bagels, Vietnamese coffee, etc. each morning). It was about 10 minutes / $7 Uber to the convention center for Gen Con. We would happily stay there again!

It has been my second stay here, and again, a great place. As the only guest during my stay, I chose the front bedroom again. This time for transportation, I took advantage of the Pacers Bike share at Mass Ave and along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. It was an inexpensive alternative, if one didn't want to take the bus or Uber ride service, to or from downtown. I would stay here again.

Linda is a great host! She's easy-going and friendly. Her house is very comfortable, and a $6-7 UberX ride to or from downtown. I'd definitely stay there again!

I'm from Indianapolis, Indiana. Since retiring from teaching 12 years ago, I have traveled often and widely all over Britain and eastern Europe. As my son lives in Moscow, I have also spent considerable in Russia, even took the Trans-Siberian back in '98. More recently, I have enjoyed fascinating trips in Viet Nam and China. I enjoy staying in homes and guest houses when possible and getting acquainted with other ways of living. Because I always read up on the various places I visit, I have an extensive collection of books and maps covering many countries. I usually travel alone, but I have taken several river cruises which I've enjoyed on the Danube and one the Dnieper in Ukraine. It's fun to share travel experiences.
In Indianapolis, I have made my home for 41 years in this old neighborhood near downtown. It was Indy's first suburb in 1875, even then a gated community with esplanades and fountains in each of three drives! More recently, Woodruff Place and nearby neighborhoods have become popular places for living and entertainment.
I welcome folks who like the flavor of the past as well as the present.
