A former iron forge (blacksmith shop) built in 1791 and converted into a home in the early 1950's. This quaint stone home abuts the South Branch of the Raritan River. Exterior features a patio outside the back door and a large riverside deck for outdoor dining and relaxation. Great room/living/dining room with large fireplace. Kitchen with modern appliances. Each bedroom has a private full bath. Towels and sheets included. Great for entertaining - board games and outdoor ping pong included.

Le logement

Sitting on the deck along the trout-stocked river is relaxing and peaceful. The home has a "great room" with cathedral ceiling and a very large fireplace with a fully exposed stone wall. The kitchen is modern without detracting from the home's charm. Great attention has been paid to the landscaping as well with many gardens on the property. There is also a large bamboo grove on the 2.5 acres.

Accès des voyageurs

Guests have full access to the property. You can use the fireplace as well as the dual propane/charcoal grill which is next to the patio. I do have 2 mountain bikes that can be rented, helmets and water bottles included. My home is one mile from the start of the 15 mile Columbia Trail, a former rail-bed. The home is 15 minutes from the US Equestrian Center in Gladstone, 20 minutes from Waterloo Village in Stanhope and Moorland Farms in Far Hills.

The setting of Stephen's home is idyllic -- set in a tiny little enclave off the main road in a late 18th century forge. The high, beamed ceilings, loft space and open plan give the home a spacious feel, while the stone walls, wooden flooring and lighting give it warmth. The same ambience continues outside, thanks to a large backyard bordered on one side by a river, along with a patio, deck, fire pit and seating. Everything was comfortable, clean and welcoming. We so look forward to what we hope will be another of many stays.

An amazing experience awaits. The photos don't even do the home and property justice. Absolutely perfect from start to finish, I highly recommend!

This is a cozy and quiet 2 bedroom historical cottage in secluded community in Flanders. The idilic gardens next to stream give plenty of reasons to want to stay longer. Stephen was a perfect host by making himself available if we needed. This felt a home away from home, just the space and atmosphere my daughter and I needed as she transitions to college and myself to another state.

Stephen's home is charming and tastefully renovated. It is very comfortable and the grounds are magical. It's amazing to think that a jewel like this property exists in the middle of NJ! The babbling river gave us a sense of calm - in spite of the many nearby activities, we opted to stay "home" for most of our stay. Stephen has generously provided everything visitors might need and is friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

Interested in sharing the property that I pride myself on remodeling. My hobbies include gardening/landscaping, and this is evident in the photos you will see here. I enjoy all that the area has to offer (biking the rail bed trail), photography (countryside nearby), visiting county parks, etc. My favorite travel destinations are US National Parks.
