Description

The Southtown TreeHugger is a well-designed efficiency apartment in the King William neighborhood, providing everything you need for a convenient stay, including a fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, firm queen-size bed, and an easy walk to all the sites downtown. You want to be close to it all, but not too close? You found the perfect place. Please read all information before booking.

Nestled in the shadows of San Antonio's most famous landmarks, beneath a shady canopy of native Texas pecan trees, you're close to everything at the Southtown TreeHugger. The TreeHugger is a well-designed efficiency apartment, providing everything you need for a convenient stay, including a fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, and a firm queen-size bed.

Built in 2014, this structure was engineered to protect the roots of our heritage Anaqua Tree, and designed to hug this tree whose evergreen leaves provide year-round shade, white flowers in the spring, and berries in the summer.

Enjoy a clean, new space, full of natural light (with spaciousness that belies its 370 sf size), surrounded by historic homes and the rich history of the King William neighborhood which dates back to the 1860s.

From your own elevated deck, enjoy a cold drink in the shade while taking in the view of the beautiful eight-sided, neo-gothic Tower Life building, which is lit up for the holidays and Fiesta with colorful lights.

New for spring/summer 2016 - We are pleased to have original oil paintings by local artist, Jacinto Guevara, on display in the TreeHugger.

The TreeHugger is in the heart of "Southtown" (a phrase used by locals to describe King William and surrounding neighborhoods south of downtown), one block from the bustling Alamo Street, a few-minutes walk from the bus stop (including the Viva Culture Route), B-cycle stations, San Antonio river, and more popular restaurants than we can count. You can easily walk, bike, or take the trolley to the HBG Convention Center, Alamo, River Walk, and much more.

We welcome business travelers! We now have a height-adjustable rolling laptop desk that you can pull up to a chair or couch, plus a handy laptop lap desk, and several additional accessories for your convenience (spare USB mouse, surge protector, and USB lamp).

The TreeHugger is adjacent to a modest but charming historic home, built in 1904, and home to the Stanford family since 2003. You will enter through the side gate and go around back. Only street parking is available. During peak times such as First Friday, you may not be able to park in the immediate area. But once your car is parked, you may not need to use it for the remainder of your stay - almost everything is in walking distance. King William has been voted the most popular neighborhood in the city, and the neighborhood welcomes everyone. We can't wait to welcome you to the Southtown TreeHugger.

Please read rules and parking information before booking. Please be aware that this is a bustling area with a lot of daytime noise - including construction.

The Southtown TreeHugger is a free-standing apartment behind the main house. You will access the TreeHugger through the side gate and go around back on a clearly marked path. There is keyless entry for the gate and apartment door.

The TreeHugger is on our property just steps away from our home, so we will likely see each other in passing. We treat the TreeHugger as an extension of our home and hope you will see it that way too. (We will never enter the apartment during your stay, except in the case of a true emergency.) We are employed full time but reachable by phone. We will strive to leave everything in perfect working order to minimize your need to contact us, but we are happy to assist you and respond to your requests as quickly as we can.

The Southtown TreeHugger is located in the King William neighborhood, just south of downtown.
You will enjoy:
Over 30 restaurants within a few-minutes walk.
Easy access to downtown and River Walk by foot, trolley/bus, bicycle, or car.
Riverside walking and biking paths nearby.
A walkable, friendly neighborhood full of beautiful historic homes, and very close to all the main sights downtown.

Walk-able Distances:
1 mile to the Alamo and SA River Walk
.2 miles to closest bus/trolley stop
.2 miles to closest B-cycle station
.5 miles to San Antonio River
.5 miles to BlueStar Arts Complex
.6 miles to Hemisfair Park and Tower of the Americas
.9 miles to Majestic Theater
1.2 miles to Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center (easily walkable)
1.2 miles to Alamodome
1.8 miles to Mission Concepcion

The King William neighborhood and downtown San Antonio are easily walkable. The VIA bus routes provide access to all of San Antonio. Viva Culture and Mission bus routes easily connect you the downtown corridor and popular places beyond downtown. B-cycle bike sharing is available throughout downtown and extends to popular areas north and south of downtown. Uber and Lyft ride sharing and taxi service are also available.

Only street parking is provided for the TreeHugger. During peak times, such as the First Friday of each month, it may not be possible to park in the immediate area. During Fiesta (mid-April), parking may be very difficult. It is important to pay attention to parking signs and avoid parking in restricted areas, as vehicles do get towed. The King William neighborhood is a lively, active place with music and crowds often lasting into the night, especially on the first Friday of each month and various events throughout the year. Guests who enjoy complete quiet may prefer to stay a little further out. The sounds of construction are also ever present during the day.

Everything about my stay was wonderful! The place is exactly as described and pictured, I had everything I needed, the hosts were very responsive, and it's in a great part of town with plenty to do within walking distance. Highly recommended!

Jen's place is by far my favorite airbnb experience. There was such attention to detail and the location is perfect! I was in town for a conference held at the conference center and was easily able to walk over each morning. The apartment was the perfect space for me, but would certainly be big enough for a couple as well. Highly recommended, and will definitely stay again should I be back in San Antonio.

The treehugger is a wonderful place to stay in San Antonio! I think that Jen has thought of almost everything that you could possibly need. It only took 15-20 minutes to walk to the Riverwalk, but there were also many restaurants and shops within a couple of blacks from the house that were just as cool! The apartment itself is full of natural light and the pictures don't really do it justice. I would definitely recommend staying here!

The stay was incredible. It is about a 15 minute walk from the river walk with many restaurants in walking distance. Everything was very clean and laid out for your convenience. For breakfast, I recommend the breakfast tacos at Taco Haven (5 minute walk) or anything at MadHatters (5 minute walk as well). 5 stars all around!

Wonderful place to stay. If you enjoy walking you will love this place. We walked to eat every night, we didn't have enough time to visit all the interesting places close by. The apartment was beautifully decorated and provided everything we needed and was very peaceful. We explored all over downtown and the river walk on foot. We would most certainly stay there again.

Thank you for your comment about the photo hanging in the TreeHugger. That is our daughter when she was 4 years old - quite a few years ago. The photo was taken at Landa Park, which is a beautiful city park in New Braunfels, TX about an hour north of San Antonio. The photo has always been one of my favorites.

One of my best Airbnb experiences to-date. Jen was very communicative and quick to respond, both prior to and during my stay. The Treehugger was clean, charming, and conveniently located to downtown/Riverwalk. Jen thought of every detail--I especially loved the business cards with the Treehugger address and phone number! Perfect respite for a solo traveler or couple seeking a budget-friendly and locally-infused lodging option. Highly recommend and will be my first choice if I'm in San Antonio again.
