Description

A small, rustic, traditional stone cottage in one of the most picturesque places of the west coast, right in the bay at the end of the Great Glen and surrounded by stunning mountain views.

Welcome to our beautiful Crofting Cottage! The Cottage is one open plan space encompassing a sitting room/bedroom, kitchen, mezzanine sleeping platform, and shower room.

The Crofting Cottage is on the northern tip of the Isle of Lismore, boasting superb views up Loch Linnhe towards Ben Nevis.

Facilities wise, there is a fully equipped basic kitchen, 2 seat table, WiFi, a DVD player and selection of DVD's, board games and books. We ask you to bring along your own linen and towels for your stay, or we can provide it for you if pre-arranged for a charge of £3 per guest (paid to the housekeeper on arrival).

Underneath a grass roof and two foot thick stone walls this little cottage has a wood burning stove for toasty warmness, and fuel included for your convenience.

With a small double sofa bed downstairs, or the choice of a double and single mattress in the sleeping loft, it can technically sleep 5, who don't mind being cosy (very cosy - we are talking immediate family or very good friends cosy!). Ideally for comfort, the Croft suits a couple.

Well behaved pets very welcome.

We will provide tea and coffee, as well as some fresh milk ready for your arrival. Please come prepared with food supplies as our local shop (3 miles away from the cottage) is open only between the hours of 9-5pm, with early closing of 1pm on a Wednesday and Saturday, and closed on Sunday.

Lismore is a stunning island, with lots to see and do if you appreciate a quieter pace of life.

If you choose to book with us, you will receive details of local beef, eggs, veg, salad, herbs, seafood and even groceries which can all be delivered ready for your arrival.

We have a wonderful cafe (around 4 miles away) open 11-4pm everyday from April, a heritage center and lots of historical buildings and monuments.

There is also a great pub on the mainland, called the Pier House which you access off the Port Appin passenger ferry (2 miles away from the cottage) which serves evening meals and can be done during the summer timetable (please check Calmac website) when we have an 8pm boat, and a 9.30pm by request (12 hours in advance).

Come and enjoy our wonderful Hebridean retreat! xxx

MUST READ: This is not an all singing all dancing luxury accommodation, nor to we advertise it as such.

It is a cosy and unique little house, allowing the visitors to get right back to basics in beautiful surroundings. If you are used to swanky hotels, are terrified of mice or slugs or bats, cant light a a fire, like to have a shop on your door step, and you ignore this warning and visit us, please be sure to leave a rotten review so other wont make your mistake :)

Our little cottage has its place among our fellow like minded individuals, who appreciate its cosy rustic splendor. If this disclaimer is making you smile, you know who you are, and we'd dearly love to share our little place with you! xx

The whole house.

The cottage will be unlocked and the keys on the table ready for your arrival.

It's managed by Julia, who lives on the island and is there if support is needed.

Getting to us...

Lismore is accessible from two ferry ports - Oban or Port Appin.

Driving:
The two ports of Oban or Port Appin are around 100 miles North west of Glasgow.

Public transport:
Our nearest commercial Airport is Glasgow, you then take the shuttle bus into the city to Queen St Station. There are six trains per day from Glasgow to Oban, as well as three buses. There is also car hire at the Airport, and Oban is a 2.5 hour drive away. You then take a ferry from Oban to Lismore.

Oban Ferry Terminal: This is a 50 minute vehicle and passenger ferry crossing, costing £ 5.30 per adult for a return trip. You can bring your car across on this ferry, for a cost of around £ 23 return trip. There a a few long stay car parks in Oban. The cottage is 5 miles away from this ferry port, when you arrive follow the main road up the hill and then turn right towards Point at the crossroads. At the fork of the road further north of the island, take a left towards Port Ramsay and follow the road all the way towards Laggan.

Port Appin ferry terminal: This is a 15 minute passenger ferry crossing, and costs £ 1.80 for a single trip. You can leave you car on the mainland in Port Appin, this is where all the islanders leave their cars too. The cottage is 2 miles away from this ferry port.

Please note ... you will need to organize your own transport from either of the ports, unless you plan to walk or are bringing a car. There is a local taxi service, and also local bike hire details of which will be sent to you if you choose to book with us in the 'House manual', but these must be given 12 hours notice.

Lismore has a wonderful selection of local produce suppliers which if you choose to book, shall be emailed to you in your airbnb booking confirmation, under 'house manual'.

Exactly what other reviewers have stated. A chance to really get away from it all! We hired bikes and cycled around Lismore; had a meal in Port Appin in the evening; took a day trip to Mull and had a great lunch in Lochleven on our return to the house is in a beautiful location and we managed to make it work with our two adult sons. Any longer than a few days with 4 adults would have been ambitious! A complete joy to wake up and find yourself in such a beautiful location! Would highly recommend it if you are fit and able to make light work of the walk to and from the passenger ferry. You could of course take your car-particularly if you planned on staying for longer.

AMAZING spot, loved almost everything about it! Could do with a new couch and the fence isn't small dog proof but it was still one of the beat places we've ever been.

What a fantastic place, we loved it! Walked, cycled, cooked, wined and just relaxed! Would take crofting cottages rustic charm over a luxury spa any day. Thank you!

Lovely little get away. Does what it says on the tin. The cottage is rough and ready on arrival but get the fire going and it all makes sense. Really enjoyed staying there, the landscape is beautiful. Our hosts were also helpful and courteous, I would recommend. Cheers.

I am a Lismore resident and managing the Crofting Cottage for its owners Steve and Christina, who are very busy with their incredible dog training business Epic Dog in Glasgow.
Scotland is my home of choice and I can never get tired of seeing all these beautiful mountains and ever-changing skies every day. I'm very happy to share my love of the land and its wonderful people by inviting you to stay on the island, and experience the remoteness, solitude and warmth it offers.
I'm a photographer and Jack of all trades on the island and love that each day holds something different. I'll be helping you to get the best out of your stay and close by if you need help or advice with anything.
Friends and Coffee are the essentials of life for me, and always staying curious to meet new people and see new places and be amazed by the beauty they have to offer. My ideal day includes 3 breakfasts, a walk over the hills with a beloved collie dog, listening to and playing music, being creative and productive, and sitting around the dinner table with friends, having a good discussion and a good laugh. I'm looking forward to meet you:)

About Christina:

I am a friendly outgoing host, in love with life, family, and good friends.
My ideal night is Salsa dancing or socializing with great friends, playing music, singing, putting the world to rights and making merry.

For work, myself and my husband own The Epic Dog Training Academy in Glasgow, rehabilitation for difficult dogs - and training for owners. We love it - but it keeps us frantically busy for over 60 hours per week! We are based in The Pet Empawrium, East Kilbride, Scotland's 1st all inclusive pet center.

Needless to say - dogs are important to us, and your four legged family members are most welcome in our Crofting cottage.

Much Love, C x
