Approach through bush, emerge to views of Whangaroa Harbour and St Pauls Rock. Ruru Cottage is simple, sunny and comfortable, in a peaceful setting close to the boat ramp, wharf, walking tracks, harbour tours/water taxi and a restaurant/pub.
Ruru Cottage is at the top of a steep driveway and looks out over Whangaroa Harbour. The cottage has a spacious open plan living area with good bench space and plenty of cupboards in the kitchen. There is fridge/freezer, microwave and small electric cooktop with oven. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with a single bed. The bathroom has a hand basin, shower, toilet and heated towel rail. each room has an electric heater.
There is a sunny deck across the front of the cottage with an umbrella and outside furniture.
Laundry facilities are available at the owners house which is adjacent to the cottage.
We suggest that guests travelling with a large boat or trailer take a look at the access before bringing it up. We can arrange alternative boat/trailer parking if required.
Accès des voyageurs
Guests are welcome to roam the property which is part native bush part garden, but should be aware that we are active in pest control and traps are set around the property.
Parking is adjacent to the cottage. Three steps lead to the cottage entrance so it is unsuitable for wheelchair users.
Please discuss with Sally or Phil if the terms of check in/out and cancellation do not address you requirements.
Échanges avec les voyageurs
We, Sally and Phil are retired and live quietly in the house adjacent to the cottage, so are around for support most days, although summer sees us frequently spending time out on the water. We are happy to advise on how to make the most of your visit to Totara North and Whangaroa Harbour and can assist in making arrangements.
The owners workshop is attached to the cottage and may occasionally need to be accessed for very short periods. Other than guests being aware that this may occur, it should not impact on your stay as we endeavour to keep it to an absolute minimum.
Mobile phone reception is available but depends on where you stand!
Water is by rainwater collection from the roof and is therefore untreated. (This is common practise in rural NZ and is generally considered safe.) We supply filtered water in bottles from the house if required for drinking.
We allow smoking outside but not inside the cottage.
No candles please.
No pets anywhere on the property.
