Description

Spacious bedroom with queen-sized bed, adjoining private bath, & deck with incredible view of Pittsburgh skyline. Modern four-story home on historic South Side Slopes is a quiet spot to relax, yet close to nightlife on Carson St. Free street parking. Close to Downtown and Duquesne, and an easy commute to CMU and University of Pittsburgh.

This loft-style room overlooks the Pittsburgh skyline and features a queen-sized bed, an adjoining private bathroom and a small deck. Desk and chair in room if you need a place to study or work from home. Large closet with hangers for any clothing and luggage. High speed wifi throughout house. The room is set up to accommodate 2 people comfortably with the queen-sized bed. There is also a futon in the room that can be set up as a bed if needed.

Jim & I love sharing our four-story modern home on the South Side Slopes, overlooking the South Side Flats and Downtown. City steps lead up to the house from East Carson Street, and it is an easy commute to most Pittsburgh neighborhoods. There is free street parking and plenty of spots for guests.

Your personal space will include the bedroom, bathroom, and deck. You will be sharing the home with me and my partner, Jim. Guests have access to the downstairs two stories of the house including:
- Kitchen: All amenities with a personal cabinet and shelf in the fridge to store food during your stay. Complimentary coffee and tea for your caffeine fix.
- Living room: flat screen TV with premium cable and Apple TV.
-Laundry: located in basement utility room. Front-loading washer/dryer.
-Outdoor patio with gas grill. Fire pit. Grassy lawn to relax in on a sunny day.

As Pittsburgh natives, Jim and I would love to help you make the most out of your visit to our hometown. Depending on our schedules, we'd be happy to play tour guide, or, at the very least, point you in the direction of our favorite places around the 'burgh. You'll be sharing the kitchen and downstairs areas of the house with us, but guests will have a lot of private space.

The South Side Slopes neighborhood has spectacular views of the city of Pittsburgh. Located minutes from Downtown, Oakland, and the center of Pittsburgh's night life: East Carson Street and the South Side Flats. We're close, but, quite literally, just above the fray.

East Carson Street is considered by some to be the 'burgh's Bourbon Street with many bars and restaurants. Peppered in are record shops, yoga studios, vintage/resale shops, and other local boutiques. Nearby South Side Works boasts more shopping and a movie theater. At one point, the South Side was the center of the nation's glass industry with more than 100 glass factories -- now there's nearly as many watering holes along Carson Street.

The slopes are notable for the city stairs that criss-cross their way up the hillsides. It's the site of Pittsburgh's annual Step Trek, where you climb the steep hills via stairway with the reward of many beautiful views (and stronger leg muscles). Most of the houses were originally built for immigrant workers who flocked to the mills and factories at the turn of the century when Pittsburgh was still a steel town. Some of the homes are still dependent on the Steps -- there's no other road to their front door! There are more than 68 sets of public stairs, or 5,447 individual steps. We wish your calves the best of luck if you decide to start exploring.

Easy access to the wonderful South Side Riverfront Trail: a bike/running path that runs along the Monongahela River. The trail is a portion of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. You can bike the length of the South Side and connect via the Hot Metal Bridge to the Eliza Furnace Trail, which leads to Downtown Pittsburgh and then the North Side.

The Three Rivers Heritage Trails continue on as the Great Allegheny Passage, a bike path that reaches from Pittsburgh all the way to Maryland and Washington D.C. You don't have to be geared up to take a week long journey to enjoy the local trail leg. Bike rentals are available nearby and you can do a few short miles along the river, or ride 20 miles or more for a good work-out.

The house is within a 8-15 minute drive to most major neighborhoods including Downtown, the North Shore and stadiums, Oakland, Lawrenceville, Shadyside, and Squirrel Hill. If you have a car, there is free street parking at the house.

Point Park and Duquesne University are very close (you can see the Duquesne campus from your bedroom window). CMU, Pitt, and Carlow are all located in the Oakland neighborhood, a 10 minute drive or 20 minute bus ride away.

Uber/Lyft rides are generally 5-10 USD to Downtown, 8-15 USD to the University of Pittsburgh, and 8-12 USD to the North Shore (barring surge pricing). We recommend utilizing these services to get around at night, especially as bus times become spread out later.

We are a 7 minute walk from the bus line for the 54. The 54 will take you to Oakland, Bloomfield, Polish Hill, Lawrenceville, Strip District, and the North Side.

Bus stops to other neighborhoods are a 10-15 minute walk. We are located on the slopes, and some of the easiest buses to catch are located down in the Flats, so coming back can feel like a hike. If you arrive via Megabus, Greyhound, or train, the easiest option is to take an Uber/Lyft to the house. The bus drops off down the hill, and can be a pain with heavy luggage.

There is a bike share called Healthy Ride (sky blue bikes and stations throughout the city) at Bedford Square, a quick walk from the house.

Getting to and from the airport:

The 28X bus is by far the most economical choice with a ride from the airport costing less than 5 USD. The bus picks up outside of baggage claim (look for signs for the 28X and passenger pick-up). You'll take the 28X to either Oakland or Downtown and then transfer. Let us know if you need help with the buses or planning your transportation to/from the airport.

Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is over 20 miles from the city, and taxis can be quite expensive at around 60 USD. Uber now picks up at the airport and is a little more affordable and cost around 30-50 USD depending on the time of day. There are number of different shuttles that can be reserved in advance and also cost around 30-50 USD.

Although there is plenty of privacy, there is no physical door for the bedroom entryway. There is a audio-dampening curtain graded for theaters with a curtain tie-back. Because of the loft-style and open floor plan, there's no way to install a door. The bathroom is private and does have a door leading from your bedroom.

Notably, there is construction every weekend this summer on 376 east and west -- the main (and only) road leading from the airport to the city. If you are traveling by air, account for extra time to travel Friday-Sunday all summer. This affects all neighborhoods in Pittsburgh.

The house and views are beautiful! Jim was very friendly. Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet Lauren. Highly recommend staying here during your time in Pittsburgh! Definitely worth the money.

Big clean room with private bathroom was great. The added view of the river and city was priceless. Home was clean and quiet. I appreciated the coffee machine, full size ironing board and comfy bed. I could not be happier with my stay and I highly recommend staying here.

Our stay was short and sweet, the hosts are friendly, the space was exactly as listed, the city skyline view amazing! Less than 10 bucks for a ride downtown via Lyft. Very happy with our choice. Airbnb does not disappoint!

If you want a great view of the city, this is the place! This is a lovely multi-story home located on a hill in the city's South Side Slopes. It's only a short drive and 15-minute walk to restaurants and bars. The room is large (big enough for any tall person to safely do a cartwheel) with its own private bathroom, closet and desk. Lauren and Jim even provided small breakfast items, and brochures and information on what to see and how to get around the city. Note: there are sidewalks and the historic steps to get up and down the hills, but you'll want to Uber/Lyft if you aren't driving. But then again, it's a great workout. Overall, I'd stay there again.

This is a great place with a great view of the city. The room was spacious, with a private bath, and in a beautiful home. The room and bathroom were clean, and the house was quiet. It was as they described it in the ad. Lauren and Jim were very accommodating. Although I was in town for work and did not have much time, they had lots of ideas about where to go and what to do. It was only a 10 minute walk down the hill to the South Side shops and restaurants. Downtown Pittsburgh was about a 40 minute walk, but easily accessible by cab or Uber/Lyft. I would definitely stay here again.
