We loved the tranquil setting of Walter's farmhouse. It is located just outside of the town walls and an easy and pleasant, 10 minute walk to the center of lovely Ollanta. We stayed 5 nights and enjoyed it very much. My kids enjoyed watching the cows and horses each day. We made friends with the farm dog. We sat outside and enjoyed the gorgeous setting. Walter was available by text and email, and there was someone at the farm to help us most if the time. The farm house accommodations are basic but clean and adequate for my family. There is a portable heater available if needed on cold nights. Shower is hot and Benito helped us increase the pressure. My husband speaks Spanish, which helped with communicating with everyone. My kids enjoyed the use of Netflix and the wifi. I communicated with Walter a few times and he was always responsive and helpful in English.

Such a delightful stay at this charming farm house in Ollyantaytambo. The room and bathroom were perfect-- clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed visiting with Benito, Paul and the others who were working at the farm. The place where the horses stay has a beautiful view of the ruins, and there are even baby cows. Great TV and recently got unlimited internet so we could watch Netflix on the TV using chrome cast at night too. Very close walk to town, but still feels peaceful. Highly recommend!

If you are an urbanite, this place presents an opportunity to reconnect with nature and life as it was for centuries past. We loved the grandeur of the setting, surrounded 360 by craggy mountains with Incan ruins visible in several directions. Horses, cows, and calves are present and there are interesting buildings on the land. It will be a rewarding lift to your spirits to stay at the farmhouse in Ollantay.

Not as far from the central plaza as we thought! Stunningly beautiful setting. Benito arranged horse riding for us, magical time was had! Be aware that there are different caretakers there, so there are always people present (this could be because we were there on the weekend), but everyone was very friendly. It helped that I speak Spanish- if you don't, you may struggle a little. No provisions provided, other than some dried goods in a cupboard from previous tenants perhaps? we were shown how to work the hot water unit, were shown the keys to each area (kitchen is at the very end, the sitting room at the opposite, accessible only though going outside), there had been a pot burnt on the stove just before we arrived, and Benito apologised immediately for the very strong smell- this stuck around our whole stay, despite airing out the kitchen. The accomodation side of things was very basic, the bathroom didn't feel clean, with leftover bits of soap, old tubes of toothpaste and some dirty paper cups in the window sill. We used flip-flops in the shower, as I tried cleaning it but it was too big a job. From this perspective, in comparison to other accommodation in Ollantaytambo, it is overpriced. Washing machine seemed like too much of a hassle to drag out, connect to the water heater, gather water (the water ran dry), so we found a local laundry instead. However, the setting.... That is what makes this worthwhile! In the end, nothing beats the stunning paddock where the animals graze (just ask to see it, you may not think to wander out there), the field of pretty crops in front of the bedroom windows, and the rustic charm of the place. My husband couldn't sleep comfortably, as the double (full) size mattress wasn't very big ( he is tall) and had a noticeable dip on his side, and the rooms get dirty quickly due to all the dirt and animals being right outside. The smell didn't bother us, it just smells like a farm and horses. :-) The little dog Sussie is friendly and good with little kids. Benito is great and outgoing, but he had to leave to go somewhere, and since we didn't have wifi, nor cell phone access, we had no way of contacting him if we needed something, though everything was alright. If written information was provided on arrival (in English for those who don't have good Spanish) on certain practical matters, this would help immensely. Also be warned that as it is a working farm, you may be woken by clients as the door wanting their morning milk. We were up early, so the loud bell only woke me once. Consider this place an experience instead of a mid priced hostal. Will never forget the beautiful surrounds.

This is the most incredible place to stay in all of Ollantaytambo. I lived here for one month and I was incredibly sad to leave. I cannot say enough about how incredibly beautiful, peaceful, inspiring this wonderful house is. If you don't mind (or enjoy) waking up to the sounds of horses, cows, lambs, dogs and people laughing, in a valley thousands of feet deep, under Incan ruins, minutes from town but feeling so far from anywhere, this is the place for you. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Simply the best. I will be back as soon as possible.
