Complete privacy, peace, and spectacular star-gazing are what this pristine cabin has to offer. Nature abounds in meadows and glades on this very walkable property. The sun porch is fabulous for sleeping on cool summer nights, and eating or game playing when rain rolls in. The woodstove or firepit keeps you cozy and warm at night. Away from people yet just 20 minutes from shopping. The location just can't be beat!

Le logement
Enjoy your own private beach with no other houses in sight. Open meadows, trees, river and stream -- this secluded yet accessible cabin has it all. Warm and welcoming three bedroom, 2 finely renovated full baths, sleeping porch, open kitchen with modern appliances, gas grill, outdoor fire-pit, and fine furnishings throughout.

Listen to the sound of the babbling brook within 50 feet of the house, or explore the 27 acres of private beach access to the Shavers fork river. The house is engulfed in a narrow band of trees and surrounded by meadows and glades for walks (bring long pants and socks to see it all). It is also situated just 1/4 mile upstream from the one-million acre Monongahela National Forest.

The house features natural wood-plank paneling and a well-appointed kitchen, wireless internet, 2 televisions with satellite TV, a Blu-Ray DVD player, and a stereo/home theater system. The kitchen is open to the dining area, perfect for social cooking.

This cozy ground-level home sleeps 8 in beds, plus the living room and sun porch (the latter in warm months only). There is a MBR w/ Queen; BR #2 w/ Queen, BR #3 w/ 2 sets of Twin bunks, Living room w/ Queen pull-out sofa, and Sun Porch w/ queen futon (unheated -- no personal heaters allowed)

For fall or early spring visits the house features electric heat and a wood-stove (a moderate amount of firewood is provided). There is a window unit A/C in each of the three bedrooms, and a ceiling fan in the living room and in each of the queen bedrooms.

Please be aware of the close proximity of the stream to decide if the risk is too great for your toddlers, or other children who might leave the house unsupervised. Our other listing has a larger land buffer between the house and the moving water .

Owners provide a starter quantity of paper products, bathroom soap, and laundry/dish detergent. Personal toiletries are to be provided by Guests.

Cleaning fee covers laundry, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, bathroom/kitchen sanitizing, and garbage removal. Guests are expected to otherwise leave the house in the condition they found it.

We want to ensure that this property is the right fit for you! This is our vacation home that we are sharing – we are not a resort with a maintenance, concierge, and cleaning staff – and our prices reflect that limitation. That said we have put together as many resources as possible to help you plan your trip and enjoy your stay as if it were your own vacation home. We also have tried to stock the house so that you would not want for much upon your arrival.

If you are looking for a remote mountain getaway and are willing to roll with what comes from a country vacation, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot! Here are some things you should know...

In winter months, be prepared for snowy and/or icy road conditions by driving a 4WD or suitable vehicle. Having chains for your car in the trunk is another good option. It's advisable whenever driving in wintry conditions in the mountains of WV as the roads are often hazardous. At times the snow can be deep and it takes 24-48 hours before it is plowed, therefore you should be prepared to be flexible about travel.

The cabin is remote, so even in clear weather its narrow mountain gravel road can be concerning to those not experienced. Depending on whether the road crew has done repairs recently there may be potholes. In most cases you can drive around them, but there may be a few on the way that you’ll just need to slowly drive through. There are also no guardrails on the road, but it has several turnouts to allow cars to pass. I've been told that the gravel is not suitable for street motorcycles.

Because the house is surrounded by forests and the river there is plenty of nature to enjoy, but also to endure. Mice will occasionally come inside, and although we set out-of-sight humane traps to keep them from settling in, there is a possibility that you will see them during your stay depending on whether they've found a food source recently (it could be from a prior guest -- not your own doing.) We do, however, check to make sure that the kitchen implements are sanitary at the beginning of your stay.

The bug situation is that we are at a high enough elevation to not have a mosquito problem, but there will be gnats in the field, and moths at night wanting to get into the house. There will also be plenty of dead bugs that wedge themselves between the screens and the windows, and cobwebs sprouting up here and there.

If these aspects of nature are acceptable to you, then you will find a beautiful place of nature in which to relax and enjoy your vacation!

Où se situe le logement

Elkins, Virginie-Occidentale, États-Unis

Absolutely secluded and peaceful, with only one house visible several hundred feet in the distance. On most points of the property you will not have any civilization in sight.

The location is remote yet accessible. Many amenities in 7k population Elkins is 20-25 minutes, and the ski areas are within (Canaan, Timberline, and White Grass 1 hour, Snowshoe 1:15 hour).

My husband Carl, 16 year old son Eli, and I live in DC in a Victorian rowhouse, and we rent out a spare apartment. We love the outdoors and enjoy all four exceptional seasons in the mountains of WV and travel there to our rental cabins often.
