À propos de ce logement

This is a generic listing for groups of more than two up to ten. If we are what you are looking for, 'enquire' and we may send you specific listings for the rooms you will need to meet your needs of your party. This listing offers an overview of the guest house and guide prices, but this may vary depending upon the dates of your request and the number of rooms your group would need.
We are family run, warm, cosy and welcoming, and are fantastically well located in the centre of Reykjavik 101.

Le logement

The Old Bicycle Shop Guesthouse is right in the heart of the old town of Reykjavik. All the best restaurants, bars, cafes and shops surround us. Our house is in the best spot in the whole of the city.
We have 5 rooms to let - singles, twins, doubles and a large family room that sleeps 4 or more. The house is a traditional timber built Icelandic house, warm and snug throughout the year. Our guests have access to a sitting room and a library, and to a kitchen which can be used for making tea and coffee (which we provide) and snacks but not for cooking full meals. We do not offer breakfast but the very good reason for this is that the best bakery in Reykjavik is immediately opposite our front door. It opens very early and fills the street with the smell of fresh bread and coffee. SNAPS Restaurant is a few doors up the street this has been voted the most popular restaurant in Reykjavik seemingly every year according to Grapevine Magazine. Booking is easy, but advisable nonetheless (they offer a fantastic brunch at weekends). "C is for Cookie" cafe is adjacent to us and is a popular morning and afternoon hang out for our guests.
Our house itself is quite well known. It was a bicycle shop for fifty years, the first of these in Iceland, and as such it is much loved in Reykjavik, especially by people who bought their first bikes here a generation ago.
Everything is around the corner. A wonderful late 1920´s art deco swimming pool with hot spa pools, steam room and a great 25 m pool is a 5 min walk. All the Reykjavik attractions, the old harbour, Harpa Concert Hall, Hallgrimskirkja church with its panoramic views and many many others are all within 5 min walking distance. The central bus station BSI is a 10 min walk . The bus from the airport stops 30 metres from our house.

Accès des voyageurs

Your private bedroom, two shared sitting rooms, kitchen, dining room and library. There is a shared bathroom on all floors which have guest bedrooms. There is a back yard with attractive golden rowan trees in it which is a nice aspect out of the windows, but this is part of our family space and not part of the guesthouse strictly speaking.

I am half English / half Icelandic, born and bred in Reykjavik, and am native in both languages. This is my home as I grew a couple of hundred meters away in Njalsgata street. My husband and children (by upbringing) are English.

Autres remarques

We welcome groups of up to 10 , However, we do not let the house in its entirety to single groups; if you are looking to book an 'entire home' you will need to limit your search criteria on Airbnb accordingly.

Reykjavik is served by hydro-thermally heated hot water. Our hot water is hot and plentiful therefore and each bedroom has a radiator with an adjustable regulator. Don't be cold. Turn your radiator up if you wish.

As we said earlier, ours is a traditional timber framed house. It flexes and breathes, is quick to warm up and quick to cool. It is not insulated for sound as modern homes are. In the downstairs bedrooms you may hear slight footfall overhead for example. If you are a very light sleeper indeed and are used to living in a concrete block, you may be disturbed by this (we had a guest recently who was disturbed by the footsteps of the cat!) A bit of common sense and respect for others, especially in the middle of the night, usually means that all but those with real sleeping issues sleep blissfully well here. The beds are very comfortable.

No smoking in the back yard please. This is our family space and not part of the guesthouse.
Please take your shoes off when you enter and leave them in the lobby. We have wooden floors, shoes bring in dirt and make unnecessary noise so in Nordic countries no one wears shoes inside.
Please be aware we have neighbours and school aged children of our own. Even though we are surrounded by restaurants, cafes, this is still a quiet residential area where late night revelling happens in clubs and pubs but not in the home.
The kitchens are for making tea, coffee, and for heating up food etc. No boiling, roasting or frying without our prior permission please.
Only Airbnb pre-booked guests are allowed to stay over, for reasons both of courtesy and security.

This is a lovely guesthouse in an unbeatable location right in the heart of the city. Gudrun and Fergus were wonderful hosts, communicating quickly and effectively, and making sure that things went smoothly throughout. Beautiful common areas, great water pressure in the shower, and cozy/compact rooms but more than adequate and especially for the price. Highly recommended.

Place was really cosy still with very good location. Gudrun was really helpful and gave us great dining and bathing tips. Family room was spaceous enough for a family with teenagers.

This place was IDEALLY located, hosted by super friendly owners who are more than happy to point you in the right direction and help you out. I couldn't get over how clean the entire place was. Exceptional value too. Felt more like a cozy Bed and breakfast than just a room in someones home. Hope this is available then book it!

I quite like this house and it's definitely a lovely place to stay. The host is friendly. I will choose to stay here if I come back to Iceland again.

I am a half Icelandic half English opera singer. I live with my family in Reykjavik. My husband was until recently headmaster of a boarding school in Hampshire where we used to live with our children. We were lucky to have school holidays to come to Iceland which we have done every year for years. We love it so much here that we have now decided to settle here. I grew up in Njálsgata in my grandparents' house which is very nearby. Many of my cousins, aunts and uncles still live in the old town. I love my home town and am thrilled at how Reykjavik has changed from the sleepy old fishing town of my childhood to the cosmopolitan and amazingly popular holiday destination it is now.
