Dwell published and one of the most unique homes in the Joshua Tree area. Instagram: @RockReachHouse www-RockReachHouse-com • If the dates you want are booked we invite you to look at our other Blue Sky Building System's rental — The Graham Residence, just down the road from Rock Reach House. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/18312865 • Co-Hosted by Homestead Modern™ https://www.airbnb.com/users/27491364/listings
Rock Reach House, profiled in the April 2010 issue of Dwell magazine, is a modern steel house perched amidst a pristine high desert setting replete with enormous weathered boulders – along with ancient juniper, pinón and desert oak trees – in a private community near Joshua Tree National Park. The house is available for architecture and desert aficionados alike; or for anyone who simply wants to decompress in style and serenity. Rock Reach House was completed in May 2009 as the first prototype home using systems from Blue Sky Building Systems. The house is framed with mostly light-gauge galvanized steel elements that were fabricated off site and rapidly bolted together on site. The shell of the house went up in five days and the house was complete in eight weeks. The only wood in the entire house is in the cabinets and the interior doors. The house sits at just over 4,000 feet above sea level on a 2 1⁄2-acre parcel of land in the remarkable private community of Rock Reach within the Town of Yucca Valley in the Mojave Desert. All 320 acres of Rock Reach are characterized by expanses of heavily weathered boulders, along with ancient junipers, stunted desert oaks and resilient piñon pines. It is a high desert wonderland. Most of the landscape is untouched and every bit as unique as any land within nearby Joshua Tree National Park itself.

  • This place is off the scale amazing.....just perfect for total peace and relaxation and it was not hard to spend every hour of our entire time doing nothing in the sun. The hosts are super responsive and the house and amentities are superb. We would come again in a heart beat .....

  • Everything was perfect. The house is gorgeous and super comfortable, and VERY clean. The view is magnificent. It's very private and quiet. Everything worked perfectly. We loved being there. The environs are magical -- we went to Joshua Tree and communed with nature. Came back to the house and relaxed.

  • Amazing as usual! Dave continues refining and investing to elevate the experience. I look forward to many years of using this as my desert retreat.

  • He was very responsive and sure to keep our experience the best it could be. It's good to know you're not completely alone out there.

  • What a beautiful base camp to explore Joshua Tree! Watching the sun rise and the stars fall from the hot tub gave hanging out around the house a whole new meaning. Thanks for a wonderful desert experience!! KoKo, the Wonderdog, showed us how to have among the boulders in only the way a dog can. Joshua Tree should be a required field for every child and adult in their lifetime. Be free and travel often!!!

  • Kyomi and Rey made us feel so welcome and were so helpful in the days leading up to our trip, providing us with information and being super helpful. They left us lovely little surprises upon our arrival - bottle of wine, chocolates, flashlights, firewood. We stayed in the back cottage and it was quaint, quiet and lovely. The little paths leading up to sitting areas and look-outs were really lovely.

  • Just book it. I am a little snot when it comes to vacation. I like to be spoiled a bit because our own home is a little chaotic full of three children's worth of things. I like to feel fancy while we are traveling. I almost didn't book Kiyomi's place because it didn't have the bright modern vibe that I usually go for when booking hotels or vacation rentals. I am so so glad that I found this gem though. A little piece of perfect happiness in the middle of endless boulders. This was our favorite stop on our two week trip through California and we didn't really do anything but swim and climb and be together. We did drive out to the park for a little hike with our kids but much preferred just hanging around the house and property. The pool is great. The beds are cozy. The view is incredible. Kiyomi had sweet tea waiting in the fridge when we arrived, my Southern children's favorite drink which is hard to find in California. She had cream for my coffee. I could go on and on. It was perfect.

  • The Dream Catcher Ranch Cottage was the perfect escape from Los Angeles. Take the short two hour drive from downtown out to Yucca Valley to experience the wonders of the desert. Its proximity to Joshua Tree is what initially garnered my interest. I later found its location also harnesses the beauty of nature. We arrived at about 11pm (an extremely late check-in, I'm aware. Thank you Kiyomi for being so accommodating!) As soon as we exited our vehicle, we were immediately immersed in nature, plus the clarity of the night sky was incredible. It's located in a sort of natural cul-de-sac, rock formations enclose it on all sides, giving it a very private feel. You feel secluded from the rest of the world, even though the main road is an easy 3 minute drive away. The cottage itself is up-kept very well and has all the amenities you need, from a full kitchen to a washer and dryer and even a wifi hotspot. Seeing as the area gets down to below freezing temps, Kiyomi provided an electric heater, however we found that the fire place warmed the entire cottage just fine. The bathroom was very clean and stocked full of soft towels. The shower had great pressure and an abundance of hot water. Kiyomi was a great host, never more than a text away, and she even had a bottle of wine, chocolates and a note waiting on the table to welcome us. Overall it was a wonderful experience that I hope to be able to recreate in the near future.

  • Kiyomi set the bar high for my first experience with air bnb. Book this place today you won't regret it.

  • Host is welcoming and friendly. The place was as described. We had a good time.

  • We loved getting to stay at the Dream Catcher! The house was quite secluded and rustic and all very creatively designed. Kiyomi was always very hospitable and caring. We loved the pool and hot tub and really felt like we got away from it all!

    Joshua2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Magical, relaxing experience. Even despite high desert winds , the hot tubs ruled. Loved the way the sun would hit the kitchen table in the morning and evening. The pool Kiyomi and Rey created is like nothing I've seen. A rustic, tropical dream in the middle of the desert. Even just the rocks themselves that the property is surrounded by are truly spectacular. Great vibe overall :) Will definitely return

  • Book it. The location is amazing. The house is super sweet. We are a family of 4 who likes luxury boutique hotels. We loved this place and we couldn't wait to get back to the house after a day of climbing to enjoy the hot tub and watch the full moon rise. Total seclusion and loved every second of it. Sweet outdoor shower.. This place is magic.

  • This house is fantastic. We never saw another human during our stay. Never even heard a car since there are no roads around the house. It was heaven and we hope to return again and again. Such a beautiful house in a gorgeous spot. And the stars... Our favorite Joshua Tree area rental! Thanks!

    Brooke 2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is remote and wonderful. Surprisingly private, yet close to Joshua Tee, making it a great base for exploring the area. And good grief, Joshua Tree is awesome. If you haven’t been, you must visit. The rock formations are just incredible.

    chris 2017-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the Graham Residence desert home was like entering a dream of seemingly unearthly peace. Surrounded by huge boulders, yuccas, arid pines, and silence, the experience was a most perfect balance of innovative architectural simplicity honoring every notion of the desert’s rich understated spiritual serenity. Beyond all the comforts of any urban home; wi fi, a beautiful full kitchen, an open shower privately nested in to huge rocks, a deck with clear vistas to the milky way and the surrounding lunar landscape upon which the home seems to have landed, this is a most sublime escape in to bliss. The ultimate desert life experience... we will be back. To Lindsey, Yoni, & Brad,we thank you dearly.

  • What a special place to stay -- we had the best time relaxing around the house and exploring both the property and Joshua tree! Would highly recommend a stay-cation here. Pure bliss in the middle of the desert. The Jacuzzi which sits higher than the house has 360 views of the scenery, both nights we watched the sunset from there and even the sunrise the one morning. Loved the outdoor shower as well -- could see the stars at night while bathing. Honestly a great 2 days spent here relaxing and exploring. The house has been designed and decorated with great detail. From the lighting both inside and outside the house to the furniture, the house has been very nicely done. Owners were easy and efficient communicators -- when we arrived we had a question and got an immediate response. Anyone looking for a place in the desert, please go check out this one!

  • An escape from reality. This place is an absolutely perfect escape. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and every amenity was thought of by the host.

Quiet private room with separate entrance and bath in newly re-decorated home. High desert location with limitless views and natural surroundings. Peaceful and quiet space in home of mature artists. Your room has a memory-foam mattress, a large natural stone rain shower, a fridge stocked with cold beverages, coffee and snacks. Our retreat is at 4000 feet elevation for cooler summers. We are located 1 mile west of Hwy. 247 on unpaved Cobalt Road. Did I say clean?
2.5 acres in high desert boulders, 5 minutes to shopping, 10 minutes to Joshua Tree National Park, proximity to Pioneertown, Integretron, Pappy and Harriet's, Music Festival and Noah Purifoy Installations.
Our neighborhood is low density with most properties at 2.5 acres and up. Wildlife is abundant and the neighbors are friendly.
  • This is a gem away from it all. It's such a peaceful retreat I almost don't want to tell you, because then it might get too booked up. Haha. If you're looking for quiet and serene but still in close proximity to all the goings on, this is the place. Sleep in, make a coffee, and go lounge in the hammock as the wind chimes lull you into a state of pure bliss. I was in town for a wedding, and I loved having this place to come home to for a couple nights. Such sweet detail and love went into this studio, and I hope you give it the same joy that's been poured into making it feel so lovely. Amazing place and amazing couple!!

  • Christopher's Airbnb is really a lovely get-away in the high desert. Close enough to town to make it easy to get food, and a great place to stay for hiking in Joshua Tree. It is very clean with your own entrance, private bathroom and great shower! I briefly got to meet and chat with Christopher and Diane - both artists - and found them to be easy-going and very gracious. I would love to stay here again.

    Lisa2017-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • lovely spot in the mountains with rocks and nature and rabbits and birds right in the backyard. Also taking a walk up the street is worth it and I'm sure there's more hiking to be explored just within reach. You do have your private room and more rooms are in prep on the property, so it'll soon be nice to meet up with other travellers, too. Chris & Dianne are really nice and have beautiful taste in decorating the room and the whole property. Take a look at their artwork if you get a chance (apart from the pics in the room). I was provided with small snacks and hot water in the morning - so nice. Great spot also to take in Joshua Tree NP and head out to Giant Rock near Landers / the Integraton (hope I spelled that right). Don't be afraid of the dirt road. Unless it rains (or so I imagine). If I find a job in California, I'll come back :-)

    Barbara2017-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this place completely last minute over Memorial weekend - still can't believe I was able to find this perfect little place to recharge for a long drive back to SF in such busy weekend. Chris made everything so easy for my stay, even by letting me checking earlier, and even had the a great selection of snacks too. The room has the best vibe and balance of everything you'll need + privacy + a little hammock waiting for you outside to sit back and fully relax with nothing but the sound of nature. The place is really accesible to the park and downtown area. Only problem was I couldn't make my stay any longer, def' planning and looking forward on going back to this JT gem!

  • Wonderful property in the hills above Yucca Valley. The space is cozy and inviting. The bed is incredibly comfortable. There is a spacious shower and bathroom. A private entrance to your 'private room' gives an 'entire place' feel to this listing. Beautiful grounds with views surround. Thanks for the hospitality.

Dream Catcher Ranch is a unique and Artistic place unlike any other for Reunions, family vacations, friend gatherings, Weddings, Events, location shoots, photography shoots. The base price of 1500 dollars a day is only for Reunions, family and friend gatherings. For Weddings, Events, locations shoots and photography shoots it is a different price and will also require additional insurance. Please contact host (Kiyomi) for any of these Events.
When Renting the entire Ranch guests have access to the two homes, two jacuzzi's and pool. Host is located close by for any needs the guests may have and to help with turning on and off with pool equipment, lights, waterfall, etc. In the main house not all of my art is complete but it's close...;)... People always tell me it's fun to see the progress...forever changing and becoming a Dream Place that I so enjoy sharing.. Sleeping arrangements: The main house (Casa de Encanto) has two bedrooms. Master bedroom has a round queen size bed. Bedroom 2 has a bunkbed with full size mattress on the bottom and twin on top. All mattresses are very comfortable. The Cottage has two bedrooms with queen pillow top beds. In the living room is a full size loft bed, perfect for a small adult or two kids 7 years and up. Both houses have large comfortable couches that can easily be used as twin beds. During the summer I also have a air mattress that we can lend for outside sleeping and star gazing, just ask about it and I'll make sure you have it. Life is Good..:) Be sure to look me up in the February 2017 of Palm Springs life Magazine, we are featured in Home edition. A quick note, Dream Catcher Ranch is designed for peaceful gatherings. I respect our neighbors and want to keep a good relationship with them so please no loud all night parties here. After 10pm noise level must go down so it does not disturb the neighborhood. You can still party and have fun, just noise level needs to not disturb neighbors...:) Dream Catcher Ranch Welcomes and embraces ALL Cultures, Races, Religions, Same Sex couples and does Not discriminate...:)... I will sometimes make an exception to bring your pet rule. The pet must be house trained and have all shots up to date, pet must be clean and owner must be responsible for pick up of animal. I will require a $150.00 deposit for damage or not picking up after your pet but if no damage and no clean up is necessary I will return the deposit. Please no extra large dogs, basic small to medium size will be considered. They must be attended at all times or in a crate if you plan on leaving them. Keep in mind there are coyotes and other creatures in the area that will take your pet if not attended. Please ask before bringing...:) Thank You.
The neighborhood is very quiet and surround by boulders in all directions with views in certain spots that go on forever. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Dream Catcher Ranch is a beautiful tranquil place for relaxation and enjoying nature.
  • We came across Kiyomi's place when searching for the perfect place for our family gathering. This place is magical! The house, the cottage, the art, the pool and hot tub, the location, the views, the stars....just incredible. Kiyomi was an incredible host. So kind, hospitable, responsive....such a beautiful soul. We will never forget our stay at the Dream Catcher Ranch and will be sure to return! Thanks again Kiyomi!!

  • Kiyomi is WONDERFUL, as is her house! Very beautiful setting, very artistic, and Kiyomi was so accommodating during our stay. She really made our weekend special, would absolutely stay again.

  • Dream Catcher Ranch is everything you would expect from the photos and then more. Stunning location with privacy and amenities. The devil is in the detail at DC Ranch, Kiyomi's art is scattered throughout the property and it makes for a really unique experience. We'll be organizing another trip soon. Thanks Kiyomi!

    Alexander2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Kiyomi's house was magical. The amount of time and effort that went into the house's decor and the overall ambiance of the property is clearly present everywhere you go. From the beautifully lit path leading to the sunset lookout, to the front yard fire pit surrounded with ambient lights. You are far enough away to feel secluded, but close enough to town that if you need something it's a 10 minute drive. Our group had a magical time, and the hospitality from Kiyomi and Rey was just icing on the cake. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to have an experience and not just a place to stay!

    Jon2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Kiyomi really went above and beyond for us during our trip. The property is absolutely amazing, we had so much fun exploring the 5 acres of beautiful desert landscape. She took care of everything for us, even had a cold 24-pack of beer ready for us when we arrived. Really great host, amazing spot and great energy. We loved it, would absolutely recommend.

    Sasha2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • This property is pure magic. The decor and set up is unique and wonderful. There is a freaking waterfall! Kiyomi is an A+ hostess and was able to answer all of our questions promptly. I definitely plan on staying here again.

  • The property was beautiful. The most amazing sunsets and sunrises. Kiyomi was very helpful and even packed the fridge for us.

  • There aren't enough positive adjectives to describe the enchantment of the Ranch. Enchanting; beautiful; peaceful; and so on, and so on. Kiyomi and Ray are the sweetest, most wonderful hosts I've ever met. They put their hearts and souls into making this property wonderful and it really shows. Truly a magical place!

YOUR OWN PERSONAL JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK! Enjoy 160 acres of historic land, featuring hiking trails, rock formations, panoramic views, unspoiled desert scenery, horse facilities and so much more. Bird watchers will appreciate The Talawahee’s multiple fly thru corridors and variety of birds. Hikers, horseback riders, and adventurers can explore the canyons or approximately two miles of single-lane roads on the property. *From July 29 to Sept. 15 we have reduced our rates. (Resuming to $250.)
Located on the outskirts of the small town of Yucca Valley, between Pioneertown and Joshua Tree, 30 minutes from Palm Springs and a little over two hours from Los Angeles, The Talawahee is a perfect retreat for couples looking to getaway without having to travel too far. For the eclectic, travel a few short minutes East to Joshua Tree — filled with quirky shops, art galleries, and small restaurants. To the west, Pioneertown — home of Pappy and Harriet’s and some of the best live performances.
Private custom homes on 2-1/2 acre parcels and a well maintained dirt road lead up to the entrance of The Talawahee, which means you won't have to worry about city noise or noisy neighbors. Passing through the gate, you step into another world, void of houses, streets, and cars. Rather than venture into the Joshua Tree National Park, many guests choose to skip the crowds and remain on the property for their entire trip, making it a true getaway!
  • What a beautiful place. Home owners left us to enjoy the place and privacy. Amazing views and cute little house

    John2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy, clean & peaceful. We enjoyed our time at the Talawahee - so amazing to have 160 acres to hike, bike and drive miles of dirt roads & trails taking in the spectacular scenery. In the evenings, we enjoyed the wood burning stove and hot tub as well. Jilyn was a great host providing us with local knowledge and recommendations for the best, most fun restaurants. We hope to come back and explore some more!

  • This place is amazing!!!!!!! Personally I liked this ranch better than crowded Joshua Tree. Has beautiful views, wonderful hikes, and some cool wildlife. The house itself is all you need. Hot tub was warm and was greeted with warm muffins and wine. Hospitality was amazing and enjoyed every second I was there. If you are looking for peace of mind and your own personal space, this is your perfect getaway!

  • Amazing location! Quiet, peaceful and the scenery was beautiful. We hiked around the property, lounged on the patio and enjoyed the hot tub and star gazing at night. We were welcomed with some thoughtful touches for our wedding anniversary. This place was perfect for our weekend gateway and we didn’t leave the property the entire we were there.

  • A quiet and relaxing weekend! The bungalow is completely private and it felt like we had the whole ranch to ourselves. Grab a bottle of wine and head outside to see the sunset. The Talawahee is a great place to hike, explore and just be outdoors.

  • This is such an interesting property, you will feel like you have a mini park all to yourself. The owners have added beautiful solar lights around the trails and rocks, so even at night you will have guiding lights to explore by. I spent most of my time walking the area and climbing around on the rocks. The rest of my time was almost entirely on the amazing porch. It’s very large with a variety of comfortable seating. The hot tub at night with the stars is lovely. The hosts were so accommodating with my checking in early, they provided a bottle of wine and some amazing muffins from the natural sisters cafe. It was serene, remote, quite and exactly what I needed. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need, but be aware that there is only a mini fridge. Take this location as a way to get away and relax, WiFi is available but limited ( you don’t want to download movies etc), and there is not a TV which I find a luxury. You will not regret staying on this beautiful ranch.

  • We loved our stay at Schaeffer's! It's rustic but cozy and clean and the porch is lovely for watching the sunrise and sunset! The road to get back to the house is a bit rough, but that's par for the course in J Tree. We would love to come back!

  • The house was amazing and our hosts were extremely communicative and friendly. We loved staying at their house and can't wait to come back!

  • Meagan, the manager, was great - very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The house, which is brand new, is fabulous. Modern and yet very much a home. I'd like to steal the kitchen for my own house. Everything was easy to find and very well stocked. We were still out in the pool until late at night because we couldn't stop staring at the stars. I'm going to miss waking up in this beautiful desert landscape. Will definitely be going back.

  • An absolutely beautiful house, in a great location! We had an amazing time. We loved swimming in the pool, and enjoying the stargazing at night from the perfectly positioned balcony. The house was so comfortable and welcoming, as well as very clean, with everything you could ask for being provided. Thank you so much for a wonderful visit!

  • Host was very responsive and easy to communicate with. Lovely views from all of the upstairs glass, but it could get quite warm even in November. Screened windows and doors provided nice fresh breezes. We loved the proximity to Joshua Tree and after a day of hiking there, the hot tub was great. The pool cover was inoperable due to heavy rains right before our stay so unfortunately, we weren't able to enjoy the pool. Cell coverage was very spotty and internet service seemed to be intermittent, but fortunately, this was mostly not a working vacation! Very comfortable beds and tasteful decor. Cornerlands is a cool house and would definitely recommend it.

  • We had an awesome stay at the Rock House! Our hosts, Cheryl and Nick made sure everything was just perfect for us. We were visiting the Joshua Tree area for our son's wedding. There were 8 of us staying at the Rock House. It fit our needs perfectly. Nick was great about turning on the hot tub and sauna whenever we wanted it, even late at night. The property is great for exploring and the house well kept. We hosted a Sunday brunch for the wedding guests and it was the perfect place. Nick even brought us a pop up canopy for shade and there were plenty of chairs in the rec room for our use. The road to the property is a bit challenging but worth the effort to get to the property. Not as challenging as we heard from families staying on other area properties! The kitchen is well stocked and the refrigerator a good size for hosting a family or group. There are plenty of linens for the beds and bathrooms. We were pleased with all the items provided and didn't need to purchase anything additional. It was our first visit to the desert and we couldn't have asked for a better home to stay in and a more centrally located property. I would recommend it highly and hope to return again! Thanks to Cheryl, Nick and Rebecca, you were awesome to work with!

  • Cheryl and Nick were wonderful hosts to our family and kids. They were so thoughtful and kind -- and shared some of their life story with us. We felt blessed to have found the Rock House and would recommend it 100% - whether you are a family with younger kids or adults travelling searching for a unique housing experience in the middle of the beautiful desert countryside.

  • This place was great! The hosts (Cheryl and Nick) were very kind and accommodating. Cheryl welcomed us when we arrived and showed us all around the place, which was truly amazing. The place had tons of amenities, the huge space had tons of natural lighting and the kitchen had just about anything you might ever need. The hot tub was one of the best things We really enjoyed staying at the RockHouse; if we go back, this would be our first choice!

    Kristine2015-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved our stay at Rockhouse! Cheryl and Nick are amazing and gracious hosts. The house is just as lovely as the pictures. The girls I was planning the trip for were looking for a place to hang out but also have a little adventure and fun. This place fit the bill perfectly. Loved all the little perks this place has to offer - the fabulous hot tub, firepit, amazing "backyard", fully stocked kitchen, lots of towels, comfy linens and beds, and the biggest darn beanbag chair you'd ever set your eyes on! Rockhouse is well worth the price and more - we were choosing between this place and somewhere closer to downtown Palm Springs, but were so glad that we went with Rockhouse! It gave us so much more than any place in Palm Springs could have at this price range. If I'm vacationing in this area anytime in the future, I would choose Rockhouse in a heartbeat. Just a heads up, the 1 mile road to their house from the main highway is not paved. Our sedan held up just fine to it though, since we went a bit slower.

  • First of all I can not say enough nice things about this property or the people who own it!!! Rebecca, Cheryl, and Nick are hands down some of the most wonderful people I have ever met! I started looking for a vacation house to have my wedding at last year. It was not as easy as I thought it was going to be. Low key wedding or not, most people did not like the idea (understandably) of having such an event on their property. I was sent a link to The Rock House by accident. The second I saw the pictures of this place it got into my blood, brain, heart and soul. Everyone, including Rebecca, suggested other locations due to the fact that our wedding was taking place in the summer and a desert location seemed crazy because of the heat. I didn't care. I had to see this place for myself. There was just something about it I couldn't shake. I also was so impressed with the kindness and honesty that Rebecca showed me that I was drawn in even more. From the moment we pulled up to the house I knew it was the one. The magic of this property grabbed a hold and I was SOLD!!! It was perfect, serene and beautiful! Did I mention MAGICAL?? I knew that I had to get married here! I have always loved the desert but this place just took it to the next level. It felt like home to me. Not only was the outside beautiful, the inside was fantastic! from the vaulted ceilings to the stone floors, the great kitchen, and the amazingly comfortable beds with the softest sheets ever! The character of the place was just charming, and the energy of the entire property was just...sorry I have to say it again...magical! Once I met Cheryl there was definitely no changing my mind! What an amazing lady!!! She was so sweet and so laid back. Next I got to meet Nick! He is such a wonderful soul! Sweetness runs in this family folks! Nick and his mom Cheryl were friendly, helpful, and warm. They made us feel right at home. Our wedding was so incredibly perfect, I could not have imagined it being anywhere else. The heat proved to be no problem at all. There was a wonderful breeze and plenty of shade! Our guests had a wonderful time! We stayed at the Rock House a full week and at the end of our visit it brooke my heart to leave. Even though I no longer live in California I will make it a point to visit the Rock House again and again. My husband and I are already talking about trying to spend our anniversary there. My only regret is that I never got to meet Rebecca in person. Only e-mails and phone calls, but she treated me like a friend. I can not stress enough how wonderful this whole family is. I hope they are people I will know forever! If you are looking for an awesome place to stay, look no further. There is no better place than the Rock House!!!!

    lynette2012-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Rebecca's place - lovely large rooms and a gorgeous back year that opens out to a huge area for exploring. Great walks in the area too. Highly recommended!

  • The Rockhouse is fab and we very much enjoyed our time there. It's a great place to relax (the hot tub helps with that!) and in a good location for exploring everything the Joshua Tree has to offer. Cheryl and Nick were very friendly and welcoming and the house has all the basics you might need for your stay. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

  • This place has incredible views and is so well designed. Check-in was super easy and despite the location being at the top of the hills, we were still able to get delivery! A great place to get some solitude and maybe catch a shooting star. :)

    Rebecca2017-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Mathew's place is a desert rose! Perched on the side of a hill we had sweeping valley views and front row seats to the sunrise each morning from the deck. The real gem however lies at the top of the hill where a quick hike up will give you 360° views for miles, including Mt. San Jacinto and Joshua Tree! Really breathtaking. Will definitely be back and highly recommended to anyone looking for a quiet desert retreat.

  • I had such a fantastic stay. The accommodations are exactly as described and pictured. It’s very clean and comfortable, and the location is quiet and private. The views are absolutely amazing. Communication and check-in/check-out were seamless. Thank you - it was exactly the recharge that I needed!

  • Amazing Amazing Amazing view. So good. So quiet. Perfect sun rise spot. We loved it. Note - the fridge motor is really loud and comes on a few times per night so if you are a light sleeper or have trouble getting back to sleep it might disrupt you. Other than the fridge noise everything about this place is just perfect.

    Denton2017-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Mathew's place is stunning, the views alone are worth the visit. We could not have asked for a better stay. The place was clean, the surrounding 360 views (perched high above the valley) were absolutely amazing, and communication / check-in was a breeze. The cabin was a perfect fit for our hiking trip to Joshua Tree, and it easily accommodated our party of 2. I would highly recommend Mathew's place for anyone looking for a quiet place with a fantastic view.

Come join us for an inspirational desert experience! This listing is for one of the gypsy tents in our secluded getaway. Our spacious canvas bell tent sleeps up two guests with a queen bed. This spacious, cozy, and comfortable tent features a propane heater and lantern for your comfort. The 4-season cotton canvas allows it to stay warm in winter and cool in summer. You will love the tranquility of camping under the magical desert stars! We look forward to hosting you!
The Desert Yacht Club experience is the perfect desert getaway for creatives. Here you will find sophisticated Italian style in a rustic old west setting, with art installations interwoven with the desert landscape and a unique atmosphere for production, adventures, and good times. The landscape feels rural, but it is located only 10 minutes to downtown Yucca Valley. There are no other properties in sight of the Desert Yacht Club, which gives us the benefits of absolute privacy and dark night skies which are perfect for stargazing. The camp is rustic and spacious, with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere that creates an easy ambience for total enjoyment and carefree socializing...or privacy and quiet if you prefer. There is a resident black cat called Bippo who roams the camp with nonchalant cattitude, and a rascally roadrunner called Elvis who enjoys looking at himself in the mirror and stealing Bippo's kibbles.
The Desert Yacht Club is conveniently located in a rural desert landscape that is close to downtown Yucca Valley, and just 10-15 minutes away from several major stores that are open until midnight, such as Walmart, Vons, Stater Bros, etc. The Circle K on Highway 247 (Old Woman Spring Rd.), is our closest gas station and convenience store. It provides fire wood, water, ice, etc. It is 1.5 miles away and is open 24/7. There are a handful of restaurants on Highway 62, all approximately within two miles and typically open until 9pm. Local attractions include Pioneer Town, Pappy & Harriet's, Joshua Tree National Park, the Integratron, Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum, and Big Bear Mountain.
  • A must stay in visiting Joshua Tree. A friend and I stayed for a night before checking out the park and had an amazing stay at DYC. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We were even upgraded to better campsite where we were able to spend night watching shooting stars!!

  • The desert yacht club is my new go to for an escape from the monotony of city life. The ad did not lie, this truly is an inspiring space and all looking for an experience of this nature should look no further. The tents were extremely comfortable and the hosts personable. The real value is in the art and experience created by Allessandro. I cannot wait to see what he has implemented by my next stay.

Very relaxed and super chilled atmosphere with lovely staff. It's a short drive to supermarkets and restaurants. The pool on site is fab for cooling down in the desert heat! I would highly recommend this place! Get up early to watch the sunrise! Can't think of any negatives. It's all fab!

Cell phones usually work here, but there's no landline phone or cable TV. We now have wifi. Coffee maker, microwave, fridge, stove, and a portable heater are inside, as well as a full bathroom and full sized bed in a bedroom. The location is on a dirt road about a mile off of Old Woman Springs Road. You will probably need a sturdy vehicle or something not too low to the ground to get down the road. Most cars except maybe sports cars would make it fine! Please realize that it is on a dirt road and may be a little dusty! From (URL HIDDEN) (definition of casita) 1. a small crude dwelling forming part of a shantytown inhabited by Mexican laborers in the southwestern U.S. 2.a luxurious bungalow serving as private guest accommodations at a resort hotel, especially in the southwestern U.S. or Mexico. Our casita is somewhere in between #1 and #2! It really makes us happy to share this casita with nice folks who enjoy the view as much as we do! Some have compared it to glamping, as it is just a plain cabin on 2.5 acres of natural desert. 1 bedroom casita on over 2 acres of land overlooking Yucca Valley. Kids are welcome but would need to be supervised closely since there are a couple of drop off/ledges, etc. Check in and out times are negotiable; it mostly depends on whether there's a guest the previous night. I live almost an hour away but will be available by cell phone or email and could most likely drive up there and help if there is a major issue, unless I'm out of town. (FYI-I don't consider finding a cup with a lipstick stain on it in the cabinet with half a dozen other clean cups urgent or a reason for a refund. Please don't send me a photo of it!) If you let me know of any needs as soon (or before) you book, I will try to meet them. I'll try to meet you with the key but after that you'll have the place all to yourself. The next door neighbors are happy to help. I'm usually available by cell or email. (Email may be better at times.) It is very peaceful and quiet and remote. You can usually hear the coyotes in the evening! It's a short drive (about 20 minutes) to Pioneertown and Joshua Tree National Park. The sunrise is really something to see! No public transportation, and it is 1 mile off of Old Woman Springs Road on a bumpy dirt road. Use caution at a couple of the turns since you can't see oncoming traffic very well. Pioneertown is about 8 miles away and can be accessed by Pipes Canyon Road or Hwy 62. There is no longer a back road access to it. You may park off the road alongside the casita on either side. Depending on the weather in the winter, may need 4 wheel drive. It's probably a great area for mountain bikes, ATV's and dirt bikes! Please let us know if you're bringing a pet or pets when you book.
  • We had a wonderful stay at Meg's Yucca Valley home. It is a quaint space with amazing views! Meg and Kevin greeted us when we arrived and we're very helpful. I would certainly stay here again!

  • The casita is quaint and lovely. Had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again.

  • I think the easiest way to do this review is to share the Pros & Cons and let others be the judge. Pros: -Communication with Meg (off site owner) was excellent- she replies very quickly. -We asked if a friend and his son could join us for the night and she said no problem and at no extra charge-Nice! (They slept on a futon on the floor and there were ample blankets/comforters.) -The view on the outside is truly beautiful as seen in the listing’s photos. -2 heaters provided much needed warmth. -There was a bowl of cookies and fruit left for us. Cons: -Place has little charm inside. -Weird décor, very sparse, overall not a comfortable space to hang out in. -Hole in wall beneath “painting” in living room opens to adjoining garage and lets in cold air. -Very uncomfortable futon in living room (and when my friend put it on the floor to sleep he noticed what appeared to be a large whitish stain on one side of it- we didn’t really want to imagine what that stain may have been.) -Not one lamp in the place (even next to the bed)- all bright overhead lighting. -Very bare basics in kitchen- no sugar for coffee, no oil, really not much at all. -Strangest/most complicated coffee machine I’ve ever had to figure out while groggy and pre-caffeinated. -Tons of dust ‘rhinos’ under bed (which is elevated about a foot so they were in plain sight.) -Polyester sheets, and bed is short- not good if you are around 6 feet tall. -Not very clean. We might have done better just staying at the Super 8 for half the price.* *I am writing this review from a lovely listing on the central coast- priced only $20 more/night than this listing –leading me to feel like this place is WAY overpriced. Super 8 in Yucca Valley advertised at $55/ni including breakfast(URL HIDDEN)

  • Loved it! A short drive to Joshua Tree, and overall secluded, comfortable and peaceful. A great experience and I'd recommend it for sure. -Akbar

  • I was met at the property with a very hospitable welcome. Meg's space is modest yet comfortable. Great views and the perfect accommodation if you need a quiet, easygoing place to stay while exploring this magical area. The dirt road getting in was a little bumpy, but nothing my "city car" couldn't handle :)

    Adam2014-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had snow sticking still!! It was lovely to be up high in the valley and have views. The space was cozy and well kept. Loved that Kevin and Meg kept a few snacks plus eggs for breakfast stocked. Felt right at home.

  • My friend and I loved our weekend away from LA at the casita! It had everything we needed: bedding, towels, bowls and pans, a stove and oven, and a wonderful view! This would be a great place to come for a romantic getaway or a small gathering of friends. My friend and I loved waking up in the morning and having a cup of coffee outside near the fire pit while watching beautiful coyotes and rabbits (tip: bring sunglasses, it was very bright in the morning sun). It was close enough to Joshua Tree National Park that we were able to drive over there in about 15-20 minutes and hike in the morning. Meg was very helpful when it came to texting and giving information about the place. We came during mid-November, so it was chilly, but not too cold. We were able to hang out by the fire during the evening and stay warm enough. Some advice: if you plan to come at night, make sure you are familiar with the directions to the house because it is very dark outside. Also, even though I was able to drive my Fiat to the casita, the dirt road was very bumpy and I probably would want to bring a bigger car next time if I had the option (the Fiat worked, a bigger car just would have been more convenient). Overall, this was a wonderful place to stay and would recommend it to anyone! Side note: after looking through the tourism brochures in the house, my friend and I decided to go to Cactus Mart in Morongo Valley and it was awesome! It's in the next town over from Yucca Valley and was a super cool place to stop on our way back to LA. I bought a couple of beautiful succulents to have on my desk at work!

    Marissa2016-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment had a beautiful view as described. Meg and Kevin were great and very accommodating when we needed to shorten our stay last minute. The place was a bit difficult to find at first since the house numbers are not easily visible, but we had no trouble once we thought to use the posted photograph as a reference. The best things about the place were the view, its affordability, and its proximity to Joshua Tree. Our only complaint was that it wasn't as sparkling clean and well-maintained as we might have liked (i.e. a key lightbulb was out).

The High Mojave Ranch is a private 10 acre estate situated in the mountains overlooking Joshua Tree National Park. At 4200ft elevation, we have considerably cooler weather than the valley floor, incredible expansive views and a secluded patch of dramatic boulder formations to explore.
This is a newly remodeled 300 sqft homestead cabin with all the amenities you could want. A 50" led TV with a Roku, kitchen and patio. Please note. The kitchen does not have oven or microwave. We have 2 hot plates, full utensils and cookware, pots and pans, and a BBQ/Smoker outside. Please bring your own coals and clean BBQ after.
There are 2 other cabins on the far side of the property that will be rented to other travelers. Please respect each other. For larger groups of up to 6 please book both cabins www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/21186987
  • The cabin is very lovely and clean. Quite small at 300 sq feet, but just enough room for two. If you're looking to prepare food, bring everything you would need. There are plates, cups, bowls and silverware, 1 skillet, and that's all. Not quite enough to make a full meal, no seasoning or oils, or utensils to cook with so bring your kitchen needs. Otherwise, amazing rocks and hikes nearby, air conditioning/heating works great, very comfortable bed and awesome patio!! Thanks so much for providing a beautiful space, if the host provides a couple more home essentials, this place will surely be a 10/10!

  • We loved the place! It was clean, quiet, and had a beautiful view! Would definitely comeback!

  • Matthew's spot was perfect for a mini getaway. I was travelling solo but this would have been perfect for a couple. The cabin is located in the hills of the Yucca Valley and had an amazing view. It was quiet and exactly what I needed to clear my head and take time for some creative thinking. The cabin is located off road slightly so you will need to drive on some dirt roads. Once you find your way though it's not difficult to get there! There is a mini stove that has 1 "burner" and a fridge if you do buy groceries. The minimalistic interior is very inspirational. Great spot for the adventurer or couple wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy city life.

    Jamie2017-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Matthew’s place is off the beaten path. It’s secluded and scenic. There’s a small place for hiking right behind this cabin, and at night, you can see so many stars because you’re so far away for the city lights. It’s a small place but my boyfriend and I had plenty of room. The bed was so comfortable! While we were there, the plumbing broke (it turned out to be a broken pipe that they’ll have to dig up and repair), but Matthew was great at communicating even though he was out of town. He had plumbers there the next morning and someone to oversee and clean the bathroom while we were out. And due to the inconvenience, he was sweet and offered us a refund. Despite not having access to the bathroom or shower, we had a lovely stay and are so thankful for everything that Matthew tried to do to help our situation while we were there. Matthew is a great host :)

    Jasmine2017-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • The location was wonderful. I loved walking up to the top of the mountain and staring at the stars. The bed was super comfortable. Matthew was quick to respond to any questions I had. Looking forward to staying there again in the future.

    Dean2017-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was very clean and great for a trip to Joshua tree. The views were amazing at night. Well worth it.

    Luigi 2017-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Matthew’s place was everything we needed - clean, comfortable, modern minimalist. The cold beer in the fridge for our arrival was a nice touch! Communication was quick and efficient, check in process a breeze. Loved exploring the property and the quiet seclusion. A wonderful stay!

Enjoy a taste of VW Van life without the hassle. This 83 Adventure Wagon is a rare model tucked on a mountainside with our "high desert vibe" co-creating, co-livng community. From here you'll see incredible sunrises, take a quick hikes to nearby epic rock formations and have access to our house amenities and communal spaces. You'll be hardly roughing it while enjoying organic coffee. The VW comes with a two-burner stove, couch, table, ample storage, some snacks and a fold out queen bed.
Our mountainside location is a perfect mix between a semi-secluded natural landscape (with views) but just a short dirt road drive away from the town of Yucca Valley. An outdoor fire pit, seating areas, and large working, writing, reading table are accessible for all guests and residents. Chris and I work remotely (when we aren't traveling) and both of us enjoy sharing life stories with other travelers, creatives and artists. There are dirt roads/trails that wind throughout the property which are great for short explorations. You'll be see plenty of rabbits, jackrabbits and birds hanging out in the morning and we recommend heading west from the property up to the secret fire pit and through some incredible boulder formations. Best of all it is extremely central to the top attractions in the area: - 10 minutes to Frontier Cafe and the heart of creative shops in Yucca Valley - 15 minutes to Downtown Joshua Tree with plenty of food and shops - 20 minutes to the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park - 20 minutes to our second favorite free hike @ Black Rock Canyon - 15 minutes to Pioneer Town home of Pappy & Harriets - 20 minutes to Landers Brewery Outside the van you'll find a fire pit, a well maintained yard area with access to the dirt roads/trails that wind around the mountain in all directions. Please use G.Maps for ACCURATE turn by turn directions to the van, not Apple Maps or GPS they will get you lost.
  • My friend and I needed a trip away from the city and the second we laid eyes on this Airbnb posting, we knew it was it. The van, nothing but spectacular. If you are looking for a nice cozy place to sleep with a breathtaking view of the sunrise and stars, you've found it. The pull out bed was very comfortable and every aspect of the van was what we were looking for, from the stove to brew morning coffee and tea to the elegantly hung lights that was the cherry on top of the calming yet exciting time spent in the van. There is nothing like popping the back trunk up, breathing in the fresh clean morning air, and watching the sun's magical colors reflect off the background of beautiful mountains. On top of the wonderful experience of the van, we were also very pleased to meet the host Brandon. A super rad guy, very welcoming, helpful, and friendly! Always quick to reply to messages. I would definitely recommend swapping some stories with this guy. If you are looking for an elite, deluxe stay with tucked in sheets, go to a hotel. If you are seeking adventure and excitement, which I'm guessing most of you who clicked in on this posting are, then you have found the right place. A great van named Ella Fitzgerald, with a great host. It truly was the prefect ingredient for my perfect trip. Special thanks again to Brandon! We will be back!

    Kevin2017-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • The host canceled this reservation the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.

    Dolphine2017-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • For me, the van was just serviceable for sleeping in. The seats and bed were clean but pretty uncomfortable. Although the site gives a wonderful view of the night sky, being in the driveway made me feel like I was in a parking lot. For the price I would have been better off sleeping in my car in Joshua Tree Park. Also I think asking for the two day minimum is unreasonable given the conditions. Everyone has their own expectations, and perhaps mine were simply not a good fit for this rental.

    Stacy2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a such warm welcoming from their beautiful dog Vera. Both hosts were very attentive to our needs. The van experience was great, the bed was comfortable and the star gazing amazing! There's a short hike from there with a cool view. Loved it!

    Shar2017-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • A unique and awesome way to spend our trip! The van was nice and comfortable and Brandon was great at getting us situated. The night time view of the stars is incredible and the daytime views of the desert equally enjoyable. Hosts were super nice and accommodating. 10/10 would recommend to anyone without hesitation!

  • This is a beautiful, comfy and spacious master bedroom with an adjacent lounge room and a patio that offers beautiful views of the high desert. Eva is a sweet host and her freshly cooked breakfasts are delicious! This place is a 15 minute drive from Pioneertown/Pappy & Harriet's and a 25-30 minute drive from Joshua Tree National Park. Yucca Valley shops and restaurants are only about 5 minutes away. The king sized bed was so comfortable, I had a hard time getting out of it! The mastebedroom has stylish desert decor while the lounge room feels like a beach house. The bathroom was super clean and had everything anyone needs to clean up-- body wash, shampoo, conditioner, etc. Wifi was fast, plenty of electrical outlets too. Microwave, Keurig machine, mini refrigerator comes with snacks, fruit, coffee and teas. This place has everything you need. I highly recommend staying here.

    Denise2017-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Eva was such a kind and generous host. We felt right at home and enjoyed all of our interactions with her from the moment we booked this trip. She is responsive and very considerate. Not only did she prepare delicious breakfasts, but she also left us fruits, water, yogurt, and coffee in our studio. The studio itself is spacious, well appointed, has a separate entrance and private bathroom. We were there during an intense heat wave, but thankfully she had an air conditioning fan set up to cool things down. The bed was comfortable, and the wifi was fast. This is an excellent place for a desert getaway. I highly recommend staying here if you want to go to Joshua Tree or Pioneer Town. It's very quiet and secluded, yet a very short drive into town. And the view is breathtaking. Beautiful by day and even better at night. Thank you, Eva!

  • Eva's place is wonderful, very private with amazing view. Eva is such a sweet host, very friendly and helpful. She accommodates our preferred breakfast! The bedroom is spacious with private patio overlooking Yucca town. At night, the stars are breathtaking. I highly recommend Eva's place.

  • Eva is a wonderful host-----ready to help but totally respectful of your privacy. The views are phenomenal and the location is very quiet and surrounded by the natural landscape. Accomodations very comfortable and clean, also.

  • This was the best place my boyfriend and I stayed on our weeklong trip to the southwest. It's a short drive to Joshua Tree National Park, and the house itself is secluded and up on a hill with a wonderful view. Eva was great about check-in and flexible as we changed plans, and provided breakfast and snacks each day. Everything was comfortable--the sheets, towels, and blankets were so soft! I would definitely recommend a stay here and hope to come back again!

    Rachel2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay at Eva's place. She is so kind and hospitable. Her home is nestled in the hills above Yucca Valley and it's so quiet and peaceful. The view was fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable.

    Hailey2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • I had the PERFECT experience in Yucca Valley. The view from Eva's house was unbelievable and the bedroom/bathroom were simultaneously spacious and cozy, but Eva's welcoming demeanor made this stay an 11/10 . I'll be dreaming of the morning desert light for weeks to come!

    Caitlin2017-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Eva's place is fantastic-you have your own space and the most amazing view from the outdoor seating area. There is some noise from the main house when you are in your room but nothing that is overbearing. Eva was so helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay an enjoyable one. She also does a great breakfast! It was very close to get into the park. Would thoroughly recommend.

Proche de la nature sauvage et de la ville, c'est l'endroit idéal pour lancer une aventure dans le désert. Épuré, propre mais pas trop sérieux. Wonderfully quiet and peaceful neighborhood made up of people who mostly don't bother each other making this a great getaway location
  • AMAZING place! The pictures do not do justice to the stunning views and locations of this house. Stayed for two nights and wish we could have extended our trip. Tyler was very helpful and left us with a very clean, and stocked home that made our stay lovely. Cannot recommend this place enough, I will definitely be back as the view (sunrise, sunset and all day) alone cannot be beat.

    Kelcy2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying at Tyler’s place. The house was very nice and had an amazing view of the mountains and sky. Tyler was a great host and very responsive. Highly recommend staying here if you’re in Yucca Valley or Joshua Tree. We will be staying here again for sure!

  • We returned to this wonderful scenic spot ! Once again Tyler had everything so organized for us to check-in, the home was very clean and tidy. It was so helpful to have household supplies already there. Dishsoap, paper towels, laundry soap, etc. The sun porch is such a cozy place to feel like your outside - and the views are spectacular. We will definitely come back...

  • Beautiful home, well stocked, very clean. The views were beautiful! No complaints and would love to go back.

    Danielle2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a treat this stay was. Pictures don't do the view justice. I stayed with 2 friends during our music retreat and we set up all our gear and has views all day long, which was so inspiring. We each had our own comfortable sleeping quarters and Tyler checked on us multiple times to make sure we were all good. Highly recommend this place if you want 5 acres all to yourself, yet still close enough to hit the town for meals and cool shops. I'll def be a returning guest.

    Craig 2017-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • This cozy home was perfect for our stay. Everything was organized and clean. Tyler was a big help getting our arrival and exit to go smoothly. The UNBELIEVABLE view is spectacular - There is a cozy screened in porch - which we enjoyed a lot! We played some backyard games that was available for our use..... while we grilled our dinner. Very cozy....! We'll be back!

    Katherine2017-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Hawk's view is a fantastic spot to stay in The high desert, it's close enough to do things in town, the National Park, etc. but it feels quite remote with the gorgeous views, quiet nights and lots of wildlife around. Tyler and his mom helped us get settled and were great hosts-- very quick to respond and answer questions, and the house was very nice and accommodated our group of 6 quite comfortably. Would definitely return when I get the chance!

    Caroline2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay at Hawks View! I went for the weekend with my brother and sister and we were so happy with the home. Beautiful views and surrounding area--we spent one night grilling and just enjoying the sunset and walking around checking out the animals and rock formations. Very convenient location 15 minutes from the Joshua Tree Visitors Center. Nice that we each had our own room. Definitely recommend for a nice relaxing weekend in the desert!

Beautiful mountainside studio with great expansive views, cozy furnishings, quiet, starry nights, incredible sunrise and sunsets. You'll be located high above the valley with 180 degree views of the mountain landscape to the east.
This location is a perfect mix between a semi-secluded natural landscape (with views) just a short dirt road drive away frrom the town of Yucca Valley. There are dirt roads and trails that wind throughout the property which are great for short explorations. You'll be sure to see rabbits, jackrabbits and birds hanging out in the morning and we recommend heading west from the property up to the secret fire pit and through some incredible rock formations. Best of all it is extremely central to the top attractions in the area: - 10 minutes to Frontier Cafe and the heart of creative shops in Yucca Valley - 15 minutes to Downtown Joshua Tree with plenty of food and shops - 20 minutes to the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park - 20 minutes to our second favorite free hike @ Black Rock Canyon - 15 minutes to Pioneer Town home of Pappy & Harriets - 20 minutes to Landers Brewery

Set on approx 2 boulder filled acres overlooking the valley, the Desert Retreat boasts stunning views, exposed beams, Spanish Saltio tile & a warm open floor plan, inviting you to come rest, explore, restore & create! This 3 bd 2 bath easily sleeps 6 & is located just enough "away" to unwind and yet close enough to all the desert attractions to stay unwound;) Just a short drive to Joshua Tree Ntnl Park, Pioneer Town, Pappy & Harriet's, & Hawks Landing Golf course. Come enjoy the Desert Retreat and book w/ us today.
Come make s'mores by the campfire and enjoy the starry night skies, breathtaking views of the desert, and many wildlife sightings. The Desert Retreat is situated just off the beaten path on/near a dirt road on a mountain overlooking the valley. Set on approx 2 acres it's riddled with boulders, wildlife and fantastic views that fuel your desert attraction. The home is furnished and decorated by local artists, craftsman and antique shops here in the desert. In the dining room come sit at a hand crafted, farm table or it's matching bar, built by a local artist/craftsman and enjoy the full horizon ahead, as you look through the "wall of windows." This is my favorite spot to sit and work on art as the views of the sunrise/sunset over the desert landscape literally inspire your soul. Enjoy cooking in a fully equipped kitchen with brand new refrigerator with filtered water, oven, microwave, toaster, crock pot, blender, tea kettle, coffee maker and a Nespresso Citiz Espresso machine. We have all your basic pots/pans and cooking utensils. Want to grab a blanket and layout? Feel free with our reclining lawn chairs or enjoy a good book as you listen to the wind blow through the trees and sway on a hammock. Want to explore without getting in the car? We recommend walking along the dirt road behind the house. It opens up to some fantastic rock formations and beautiful views of the San Gorgonio Mountains. The Desert Retreat is a sweet haven for our family and hope you will find it to be so for yours.
The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. We are located on a dirt road in the very desirable Western Hills Estates. Our family has enjoyed many wildlife sightings including a hawk that likes to come overhead in the evening and a coyote that loves to cross through the property in the early morning. We've also sighted many lizards, Jackrabbits, a Rosy Boa (harmless desert snake) and an owl. Want to explore? Have a walk further down the road and explore the many majestic rock formations and expansive sights of the San Gorgonio mountains. There are no street lights in the neighborhood which means you will get to have an unobstructed view of the beautiful stars. I had one friend say "the stars look so close, you feel as if you could reach up and grab one."
  • We loved the place simplicity and beautiful... Malia is amazing!

  • Highly recommended. Malia is wonderful and her place is so special, amidst the National Park landscape. We had much fun making s’mores outside, all eating around that great dining table, and of course, exploring the park. We hope to return again soon.

A Rustic Modern Hidden Gem loft style 1953 homestead cabin at the end a well-maintained dirt road. The cabin is centrally located to all attractions & is on the edge of thousands of acres of Joshua trees and boulders- like having a private park at your door with incredible views and hiking. Renovated by a local artist craftsman. The cabin features modern conveniences such as mini-splits for AC and heat and a multijet massaging shower. You will love the woodburning fireplace on chilly nights.
Built in 1953 as a homestead cabin, it was completely remodeled by local artist- craftsman in 2015. It features 14 foot ceilings and upstairs loft style bedroom which is accessed by a spiral staircase and a state of the art steam shower/sauna in the bathroom. The cabin is perfect for a romantic get away from city-life while still being an easy drive to Joshua Tree National Park, Pappy and Harriet's and other high desert attractions. The fold out couch could sleep a third person if necessary for an extra $15 per night. The area is surrounded by pristine land and forests of Joshua Trees with thousands of acres of hiking. The kitchen is stocked with cooking utensils and dishes. The bathroom has a custom made wood sink made by a known local Joshua Tree artist. There is a wood burning fireplace and a split- both for AC and heating. The cabin is eclectic in decor and very cozy.
The neighborhood is very quiet with few homes. The cabin is the last house on a well-maintained dirt road on the edge of thousands of acres of open desert with forests of Joshua trees, scrub oak and other greenery and interesting rock formations. The nearly homes are charming old homesteads. It is a great area for hiking and stargazing. There is a great deal of vegetation and desert greenery in the neighborhood, more so than many other areas in the high desert. It is a very beautiful area that has been untouched and wildlife including rabbits, quail, hawks, and even the sporadic desert tortoise can be spotted. Great views from all sides of the cabin, with a large upstairs covered western-facing balcony for watching the magnificent desert sunsets.
  • This cabin was exactly what we were looking for! A great mix of serenity and seclusion but close enough to other fun things to do. It is the last house on a dirt road with plenty of walking space behind the cabin. Great patio both upstairs and downstairs to star gaze. It is also not too far from town and shops (~10min) to stock up on any food or drinks. We were close enough to enjoy live music on friday night as well as visit Joshua Tree National Park on Sunday. The cabin itself is artfully decorated with great pieces to look at in every room. Living space was very simple, clean, and comfortable. Plenty of blankets around which was nice to bring outside on the patio at night to fight off the chill. Kitchen has basic amenities and we were able to cook and eat breakfast every morning. Overall the cabin is a great place and I have already recommended it to friends traveling to the area.

  • Location is amazing! Gorgeous hiking at your doorstep. Shirley is a great host. Great tips and she checked in several times during our 5 day stay. Cabin is clean and comfortable. Record player and shower are fun and unique. We'll be back!

    Dene2017-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley's cabin is ideal. The remote location allows for a sense of total isolation, but the proximity to Joshua Tree, Pioneertown and the national park make it an easy place to base a visit to the area, and still take advantage of Pappy and Harriet's, the Joshua Tree Saloon and the national park. It is peaceful and quiet and comfortable. The space is well decorated, which makes hanging out and spinning records inside at night a real pleasure. Shirley is an amazing host, easy to communicate with and incredibly accommodating. I hope to stay at her place again many times in the years to come.

  • Shirley was a wonderful host, very responsive and friendly. The cabin was absolutely beautiful. It was well equipped, had comfortable and funky furnishings, very clean and super convenient location. Very close drive to Pioneertown, Joshua Tree, Landers. Even had a fun shower with radio, colorful lights and sauna! The backyard is a DREAM. Endless acres of desert landscape where you can hike and walk around. Perfect for people who are looking for a serene nature getaway. I would definitely recommend! Hope to be back soon. Thank you Shirley!

  • This was our first trip as a newly engaged couple and it was perfect. Everything in the description was just as it is upon arrival. The home is whimsical and comfortable. You can feel the desert vibes and history in the art that is uniquely placed around the home. If you're looking for seclusion and peace you will find it here. My fiancé and I hiked around the backyard for two hours and watched the sunset. You really can get in touch with nature here. Shirley was the best host! She gave us all the details and kept open communication as needed. She also gave us well written instructions and help finding great places to eat. We can't wait to come back for a little peace and quite in the future.

  • We glamped in the Yucca Valley! The RV was exactly as described and with its powerful heater, it kept us toasty while the desert winter temperatures were freezing on the outside. This is a great deal if you're looking to be close to Joshua Tree or need a place to rest your head. Keep in mind that cellular connections in the desert can be spotty for some, so if communicating with Carlos, be sure to use email instead so that with if you find a wifi in town, you'll be able to get the details from him quickly.

    Richard2016-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Carlos' place was exactly what we were hoping for in our one night in Joshua Tree. The camper was clean, comfortable, and easy to find. We had issues with our flight and didn't get in until late. Carlos was up to show us around the camper and make us feel welcome. Right out front was a nice little field full of desert plants and rabbits. Perfect for a brief morning walk. Carlos' home is beautifully landscaped with different types of cacti, there was a great little donut shop right down the street, and entrances to Joshua Tree National Park a short and enjoyable drive away. There is no better way to experience a little taste of the local life.

  • The RV was very spacious, we were unsure what to expect as it was our first time staying in an RV. It was very clean and well kept. Overall a very good place to stay. Quite location. May want to bring an extra pillow and blanket depending how cold you get. We would definitely stay here again. Carlos was very pleasant and helpful.

    Robin 2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Carlos was a great host--friendly and quick to respond to any questions we had during our stay. Just a short drive from Joshua Tree, the RV was a lovely way to end our day spent hiking and exploring.

Only a mile from Pappy and Harriet's, and fifteen minutes from the Joshua Tree nat'l park, spend your time in Pioneertown in a beautiful vintage Silver Streak in a garden with some of the most stunning views around. Walk right out the front door into thousands of acres of Wildlands Preserve land to explore, or just kick back and enjoy. This off-grid experience runs on solar and well, with electricity, a full kitchen and bathroom (hot water), a BBQ and an additional outdoor shower (seasonal).
Located on the 35 acre Ranch of the Rising Sun property just up the hill from a historic home re-built by filmmaker Julian Pinder, featured in the New York Times fashion section in 2016. Directly out the front door of the vintage Silver Streak lies thousands of acres of Pioneertown Wildlands Conservancy land. Just steps up the hill you'll find yourself in some of the most stunning and least travelled trails and hikes. This is a unique location being only a mile from Pioneertown and Pappy & Harriets, isolated and with stunning views backing onto thousands of acres of Wildlands Preserve land, but just minutes from the amenities of Yucca Valley and right off of paved Pioneertown road. No long dark back road drives to get lost or destroy your car on.
Pioneertown is one of the most unique places in California. Built in the late 40's as a functioning movie set by Roy Rogers and the Sons of Pioneers, hundreds of Westerns have been shot here. There is superb hiking, horseback riding, live music (Pappy and Harriets), and it's just a fifteen minute drive from the Joshua Tree national park. Just down the hill a 35 minute drive is the iconic city of Palm Springs. This property is also very close to the amenities in Yucca Valley. Within five minutes there are grocery stores, gas stations, laundromats, coffee shops, vintage shops, etc.
  • Julian was lovely and super responsive throughout the entire process - booking, pre-arrival and the stay. He sent a lot of tips and information beforehand that helped a lot. The location is really great too! It's super close to Joshua Tree National Park and Pappy and Harriet's, the really popular restaurant in Pioneertown. The decor of the air streamer is very nostalgic. It wasn't just a place to stay, it was an experience. We wish we had stayed another night just to hangout to read, write and think.

Immerse yourself in vintage high desert charm! Our 1940's cabin sleeps four and the trailer can be added for $60 to sleep an additional 2 guests. Together the Cabin and trailer can accommodate 6. Located in Water Canyon just 2 miles from famous Pappy and Harriets and Pioneertown's Mane St. Surrounded by majestic views of the Sawtooth Mountains and a short drive to the nearest Joshua Tree Park entrance (Black Rock) and the Pioneertown Mountain Preserve offering plenty of hiking trails.
This cabin is a world away from the urban hustle bustle and surrounded by nature. It's a place to get away and listen to the birds sing, watch the coyote's wander in the wash and enjoy breathing in the desert sage air. We are now very excited to offer the option of booking our 1957 Aljo trailer along with the Owl's Nest Cabin (see photos for Little Hoot details) We do not offer a TV although we do have internet and a Bluetooth radio. The main source of heat in the cabin is a pellet stove. There is also a wall mounted electric heater in the back room. It's cozy inside the Cabin, however a warm sweater and warm socks are still recommended during the coldest winter months. The pellet stove features simple push button operation and has a thermostat. It can run for about 14 hours before more pellets must be added to the hopper. We provide the pellets. In the warmer months the cabin is cooled by an evaporative cooling unit (swamp cooler) that is mounted on the roof. It forces a large amount of air through the cabin and can only work if a window or two in the front room are left about halfway open during it's operation. If all the windows and doors are closed the evaporative cooling unit will not have any effect.
Our cabin is located very close to the hub of activity for shopping and going out on the town for food and entertainment. Old Town Yucca is about one mile down the road and offers up a handful of the best antique shops, vintage and fashion boutiques in the area, as well as coffee shops and mom and pop style restaurants. Pioneertown is 2 miles up the road and the home of the famous Pappy and Harriets Bar and Restaurant ((URL HIDDEN) where you can experience the unforgettable Santa Maria BBQ and some of the best bands of the past and present. Frontier Coffee ((URL HIDDEN) is about a mile down the road in the center of Old Town Yucca. They dish out some of the best BLT's and sophisticated egg sandwiches (veg option) your palette could ever yearn for, and serve the finest local Joshua Tree Coffee. They have a beer and wine license and a couple nights a week they offer live music. If you'd like to venture a little bit further take a short ride down Hwy 62 to the Joshua Tree Saloon where you'll get a taste of the local talent and yummy bar fare. The End Clothing Shop ((URL HIDDEN) is an eclectic blend of chic housewares, jewelry and hand picked second hand fashion. The Hoof and Horn ((URL HIDDEN) Western style fashion with a flare. Pioneertown Crossing ((URL HIDDEN) A great selection of antiques! Art FX and Furnishings has an amazing selection of local art and gifts. The place is full of desert gems. Now for hiking..! There are plenty of special areas to hike very close to the cabin depending our your level. Just a short walk across Pioneertown Rd will bring you to the base of Water Canyon where you can walk up the wash along the base of the Sawtooth Mountain Range. If you'd like to explore further please check out this site for information on Joshua Tree National Park and The Pioneertown Mountain Preserve. (URL HIDDEN) To catch a glimpse of the deserts creative visionaries visit the sculpture site of the famous Noah Purifoy ((URL HIDDEN) and the Integratron ((URL HIDDEN) for architecture and sound baths (sound baths are by appointment only). Enjoy!

  • The Owl's Nest is CLEAN and I mean spotless which really makes an experience much more pleasurable. Lulu and Matt have done an outstanding job refurbishing and decorating the Owl’s nest. It’s tranquil with scenic views of rock formation. A space to listen to birds sing while the quails & bunnies play. Perfectly located, easy to access great eateries - Frontier Cafe and Pappy & Harriets. For those who like to adventure there's scenic rides throughout the area - Pioneertown, Yucca Valley & Joshua Tree. I wish we had more time to enjoy the desert, but we'll be back soon. Thanks again, Lulu & Matt.

  • Lulu and Matt's cabin was amazing! Clean, comfortable, spacious, perfectly decorated. An awesome desert retreat. Close enough to Pappy's and Joshua Tree to be convenient, but secluded enough to make it the perfect getaway. Matt and Lulu are great hosts, there with all the info you need when you need it, but happy to leave you alone to enjoy the place. Mandy and I can't wait to come back.

The location of the house is perfect- secluded enough to enjoy the desert setting but close enough to shops and restaurants that you're not driving miles and miles just to do anything. All the amenities in the kitchen. We found ourselves relaxing at the large dining room table, having coffee outside on the back patio and lounging in the spacious living room. The bedrooms are roomy and comfortable. It is an easy drive into Joshua Tree, and near by lots of stores and restaurants. A perfect spot for a trip to Joshua Tree. We will be back. Great spot for a dog, too!

The kitchen is filled with cooking supplies, almost anything you could think of, which made it much easier for a desert trip. The location is awesome as well, very close to Pioneer town and all the cool and hippie places around. Yani was super kind and generous, I highly recommend this place to anyone who comes visit.

Definitely recommend if you need a simple, comfortable place to stay near Joshua Tree. There was also easy access to grocery stores, Starbucks and food very close by. Great time, great host!

  • Master's Class!! Is all I can say to describe the home, location and service of our host. Really, the only thing you needed to bring is your good attitude and food. It felt as though it was an extension of my own home. The furniture wasn't cheap. It was tastefully decorated and impeccably clean. The few requests or questions we had while there was addresses in a timely manner. From the time we opened the door to begin our vacation to the time we locked the doors to head home, we had no complaints. I wholeheartedly recommend this home if you are considering it. My only complaint is Ryan, you spoiled me and probably have messed it up for any other listing that I use in the future. • Great location! Super close to the Joshua Tree park entrance. Nice space to come home to after a day of hiking! The neighborhood in the boulder piles overlooking the valley was pretty neat. And the views of the sunrise were spectacular!

  • Lovely home very spacious and comfortable. Conveniently located near the West entrance of Joshua Tree. Chantel was very quick to respond to our questions. Highly recommended.

My place is close to family-friendly activities, the airport, nightlife, and public transport. You’ll love my place because of the coziness, the views, and the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids). Located 3 miles from Pioneertown (Pappy and Harriets). Many well known acts perform at Pappys.
the entire home has just been redecorated everything in it is brand new with the exception of a few antiques
  • This is a perfect spot if you have family that lives nearby and you need a place to stay.

  • This is a wonderfully clean condo and it's super comfortable. It's recently been revamped and looks amazing inside. Sarah is very nice and helpful and she lives in the area. This place was perfect for our needs and the price point was perfect.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Sarah's place. The house was clean, roomy, comfortable and easy to get to. It was a few miles away from one of my favorite music venues Pappy & Harriets. The only got to stay the night but maybe in the future we can come back for longer.

  • High Desert Base Camp is comfortable, beautiful and conveniently located. Sarah's personal touches from the quilts knitted by her grandmother, to the stoneware and tables made by local artisans, to her gorgeous pastel Fiestaware gave the condo incredible warmth and the comforts of home.

The house is within walking distance to a bunch of cool vintage shops in downtown Yucca, 5 minutes from Pappy & Harriet’s and 20 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park.
  • Clean, easy to get to and very cute. Fun for a quick getaway from LA. Will be back.

  • What a wonderful little get away! Tim went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfortable by staying in constant communication via email. This insta worthy house is a must if you are headed out that way!

    Kayla2017-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was wonderful. Nice clean place, plenty of privacy from neighbors and located close to Joshua Tree NP and Palm Springs. Would definitely visit again!

  • The Coyote House is a really special place. You can tell the thought and care that was put into making this house special. With a wedding less than a month away and both my fiancé and performing right up to the wire I was a little frazzled and Tim was very accommodating and very helpful with communication and it was a relaxing inspiring weekend.

    Elaine2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Located down the street from pioneertown. The coyote house decor, vibes & spa everything was magic. Definitely going to book this spot again. Tim was the most helpful with any info we needed. The collection of books & records are epic.

  • COYOTE HOOOUSE stayed for our 2nd anniversary and it was the perfect getaway! It's in walking distance to cute shops, a couple bars and little restaurants! Plenty to explore...but to be honest our favorite part was hanging out in the house haha it was so welcoming, a lot of cool books to look through and the record player was he cherry in top, even walked down to the little record store and got a few : )

  • Such a wonderfully designed, clean and cozy home away from home. Everything was really easy and straightforward. Definitely recommend!

    Claire2017-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this space. All of the little details - gold silverware, extra plush white towels, the smell of the lotion, the art on the walls - they all made this place so special. We wish we could have stayed longer - this is a true sanctuary.

  • Pete’s home was beautiful! Perfectly private with out being too far from the local attractions of Pioneertown, Downtown Yucca and Joshua Tree.

    Michaela2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Pete's home was lovely, minimalist interior with beautiful views. Sunsets were beautiful from the outdoor living area and the picturesque windows and sliding doors allowed for views from almost everywhere inside the common living areas. The kitchen was stocked with all the appliances and kitchen utensils to cook anything and everything. With our family and friends here the outdoor living and open common areas provided for countless conversations and star gazing. Ihis h would recommend this home to anyone seeking an quiet retreat with amazing views.

    Kevin2017-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • In all honesty, Jessica’s back house far exceeded my expectations in the best way. Very stylish, good location and an AMAZING view of the desert. You’re set up right on a hill with access to a small above ground pool, patio furniture and a fire place. Very serene. The location is also perfect, just about a mile or less from the main road. I rarely leave reviews but told myself I would because I was so impressed. I’ll definitely be booking here again in the future!
