Vista Grande offers stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley, a sight best enjoyed from the decks off the master bedroom, dining room, or while relaxing in the jacuzzi tub. Hiking, fishing, kayaking, and swimming are all conveniently available. Picnic outdoors under the patio area, enjoy smores around the fire pit or throw a game of corn hole on the custom made corn hole boards. Come have fun and enjoy the adventures that await you at Vista Grande!!
IMPORTANT INFO RE: LODGING TAX: a lodging tax of 10.3% (rounded to the nearest whole number) will be collected at check out... an envelope will be left at the cabin for the lodging tax. Vista Grande comfortably sleeps 6, with beautiful views from the dining room deck, kitchen window, as well as the deck off one of the bedrooms. Views also can be enjoyed while relaxing in the large Jacuzzi tub! A large stone fireplace provides warmth for cozy and/or romantic evenings and a fire pit out back is perfect for roasting hot dogs, making smores, or just relaxing after days end to share stories and good times. Please note, Vista Grande is nearby other homes, however most are other rentals and the neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful!! There is a charcoal grill available for grilling, however charcoal is not provided at Vista Grande and firewood for the fire pit can be found locally for $5 - $10 a bundle. F.Y.I. --- for those with groups larger than 6, Vista Grande is next door to another one of our properties, "Relax at Acorn Hill" (which also sleeps 6)... although separated by a wooded lot, homes are close enough to walk between yet separate enough to enjoy a quiet and relaxing stay at both locations.
there is much to do depending on your likes... the Shenandoah River is close by for canoeing/kayaking, many hiking trails throughout the national parks and nearby areas, shop flea markets and antiques stores, visit local Virginia wineries, or just sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery while relaxing on one of the decks.
  • Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of Luray in a quaint little cabin on the mountainside. The view from the porch was amazing, and everything was as explained in the overview of the house. Only thing I would add is that you truly are on a mountain, so expect a certain level of nature with your stay. The house was very clean, but don't be surprised when you see a few knats or flies from time to time. Also, while the house has three bedrooms, it only has one bathroom. Not a deal-breaker at all for us (especially with the view from the tub), but it is something that I did notice was a little odd. Otherwise David and Becky were super easy to coordinate with and I would highly recommend you checking this place out for yourselves.

  • Charming cozy cabin with awesome view! The cabin is fully equipped with cooking and serving utensils, condiments, and fire wood. Becky was very responsive to my questions and accommodating in my special request for flower vases. Highly recommended!

  • Great place to get away and unplug.

    Benjamin2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • We found David and Becky's cabin when researching places to stay for the Shenandoah Half Marathon. This was definitely the best deal we could find in the area with great reviews. Our friends also booked Acorn Hill which is another one of their cabins right next to Vista Grande. The cabin was quaint and about 20 minutes from grocery stores, restuarants and Skyline Drive. We drove up on a rainy night and closer to the cabin the streets are windy and there are spots of limited internet/cell phone access so that's definitely something to keep in mind when planning your trip. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are three bedrooms but only one bathroom which could become an issue if sharing with multiple families. Acorn Hill had two bathrooms. The jacuzzi tub was an AMAZING feature for after the race and the view was magnificent. We will definitely stay here again.

  • The house was great!. The only issue we had was doing the dishes. We had nothing to do the dishes with such as a sponge or anything. A small detail but otherwise we had a great time

  • Very kind hosts, and a very nice spot. We enjoyed our weekend away in the Shenandoah!

    Benjamin2015-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely and relaxing time at Vista Grande! Vista Grande is the perfect quaint getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. With a great view of the mountains and a quiet neighborhood we enjoyed every moment of our stay. Be sure to make good use of the fire pit and deck for some great star gazing at night!

    David2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very charming and the views really were grande. Had a beautiful fireplace and a nice large tub in the bathroom. The place was overall really nice. The house was not as secluded as I would have liked, there were many houses pretty close (100 ft. away) so I would say if your looking for a more secluded place, vista grande isn't it. However, as I mentioned earlier, the place itself is very charming and the hosts were also really nice.

This house is where my husband and I plan to be for the long haul. Unfortunately right now due to work and other obligations we can not be there yet. However we hope that each of you will be able to enjoy it while we are away. We love the peace and serenity that this home has. Situated on a 6 acre horse farmette this house is very private, yet only 5 minutes to Main Street and most of Luray's attractions.
You immediate neighbors will be the horses and cows.
  • Excellent place to stay! We were in the area for a wedding and the host accommodated our last minute request to have 2 other family members stay with us. Nice rooms, plenty of space. Relaxing beautiful views. Close to town.

  • Great location - spacious - clean

  • This is a lovely house set in a quiet pasture. Tony and Nina are great hosts and we would go back there in a second!

    Veronica2017-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful time at pasture view. Conveniently close to town and the caverns and national park, but felt like you had the mountains to yourself. The 360 views of the mountains could not be beat. The hosts were so kind to provide amenities and smores fixins. The fire pit was a wonderful touch. Great place to stay for an outdoorsy vacation. Thanks Tony and Nina!

    Mary2016-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Just as described and so great! We loved the remoteness of the location, but it was still within a short drive to local restaurants and shops and a great walking path in downtown Luray. We drove into Shenandoah Natl Park from here a couple times during our stay - easily accessible from here! Tony & Nina were great at communicating before and during our stay and their home was comfortable, spacious, and perfect!

    Emily2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Place was even better than advertised! It has 2 bathrooms, everything you need in the kitchen and plenty of space for guests. Loved our stay here!

    Kelsey2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Pasture View was just as advertised: quiet, scenic and very accessible to Luray and Shenandoah National Park. We had a lovely weekend of hiking, horseback riding and "country living". Being from DC, it was a much-needed break in a pastoral setting with a lot of time outdoors. The yard was great for a family game of soccer as well. FYI - at this time of year, not all the Luray restaurants are open for business and hours of operation tend to be shorter than what we're used to. Things just require a little more planning. Of note: Mountaintop Ranch (Elkton) for a great trail ride with amazing views, Warehouse Art Gallery (Luray) and the railroad museum in the restored train depot (Luray) which included history on segregation (both racial and gender). Thanks for a lovely weekend, Tony and Nina!

  • Awesome house and location. Everyone was very nice and helpful and extremely accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

  • A nice cozy place to stay in Luray! We spent the night here while enjoying Shenandoah NP. Ann (the manager) was terrific, and the unit was lovely. If we're ever back in the area, we'd stay here again!

    Vincent2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • The host did make us feel welcome. The neighborhood was very quiet and safe (except for the sound of a freight train going by in the early morning-around 6am).

  • The place was clean, nicer than expected, and friendliness of the staff was superb.

  • Great home right on the creek and a few blocks from restaurants. The breakfasts at the Inn of Shenandoah were spectacular. There is a train nearby, but was rarely heard (in 3 days, we only heard it 3-4 times and it was mostly soft).

  • Just a short walk into town in a quiet location.

    joan2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Betsy's airBNB is in very nice condition, Betsy and Ann also run the Shenandoah Inn, so they are professionals when it comes to cleaning and hosting. The unit is very cozy and I enjoyed my stay. However, please note that this particular unit is only ONE bed and ONE couch. It's the lower unit of 2 units they host, if you rush through booking the unit, it's easy to think you're getting 2 beds. Otherwise my friend and I had a great time staying here.

  • This place is a treat. Can hold a huge group (we had 24), but has enough space so we didn't feel like we were too many. Easy access to grocery store, Shenandoah, and attractions. Jane is great!

  • What a great spot! We were in Luray for a wedding and needed a space for lots of family to stay. What a perfect place. Close to town, Walmart, a winery... The house was clean. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook with! Jane was awesome with quick responses and accurate descriptions! Thank you!!!

    Amy2016-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for a large group to stay! Lots of room, comfortable, even unique (in a good way), and the host is very responsive. Would readily recommend, especially for parties looking for a good spot in Luray and needing about 8 bedrooms.

    Greg2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great facility. I was there with 12 friends for a wedding. We found the place to meet our needs perfectly. Jane met us on site and gave us a very thorough briefing and made herself available 24/7 via messaging and texting. I would definitely stay at Jane's again.

    Lew2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jane your warm welcome was the best. You have responded to all our queries irrespective of time. Please continue to do so. After driving 6 hrs if you get this type of treatment people tend to feel value for money.

  • Perfect place to rent with a larger group. Would recommend it to anyone.

    Brendan2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Alcove at Luray was the perfect spot for our group! I was organizing a large group of 22, and was pleased to find that everyone had a bed to sleep in. There are many comfortable common areas that fit a large group, including a living room, rec room and screened in porch. Between the large kitchen and the ample grill set-ups, we were easily able to prepare enough food for everyone. There are multiple refrigerators which was really nice! We were also appreciative of the generous amount of yard space - the house felt nice and secluded. The house is very well equipped with linens, towels and kitchen stuff. Only thing I would note is not to forget to bring water, as you can't drink it out of the tap. That said, the Walmart is only 5 minutes up the street! Jane was amazing to work with, from her fast communication to her friendly and patient tour when we arrived. We couldn't be happier with the overall experience, and already look forward to booking the Alcove for our next trip!

    Johanna 2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Alcove was the perfect place for a family gathering of folks traveling from CA, MA, PA, GA, VA, and NJ! There was plenty of room inside and out. Great porch, deck and yard space for relaxing and active playing, and we enjoyed sitting around the fire pit each night looking at the amazing stars and toasting marshmallows ! Good kitchen cooking space and plenty of refrigerator space which is not easy for 20 people in the summer. Great location with easy driving access to hiking, mountain biking, and river activities!

  • Larry was an excellent host. He thought of many details to make the stay perfect, even leaving coffee and creamer for us to make use each morning. The house is beautiful and spacious. There were only two of us, but the room could have easily slept 4 adults. The patio was large and the grounds were well kept. The house was in a perfect location, and made for very quick drive to Luray Caverns and Shenandoah National Park. I am planning on coming back to this exact location.

    Katherine2016-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Larry was great, he greeted us when we arrived, showed us around and recommended local restaurants to us as well as things to do around Luray. The Garfield Guest house also did not disappoint! Was very clean and well kept. Had a vintage feel with a modern touch. Thanks so much.

  • We came to Luray to spend a couple of days hiking in the Shenandoah National Park. It turns out that we absolutely loved our stay in the Garfield Guest House in Luray! There are two apartments available for rent and we had rented the one on the ground floor. The apartment is very spacious, with a comfy living room, a large bedroom, a kitchen, a two-room bathroom with jacuzi and shower and a large porch. Everything was in top condition, very tidy and tastefully furnished. The wifi worked well as did the aircon. In addition, the parking lot is easily accessibly and suited even for larger vehicles. The apartment is located within easy walking distance from the Luray restaurants and shops. Larry and his wife are very friendly and helpful hosts who not only gave good advice on hiking trips but also outstanding recommendations for restaurants and other points of interest in the area (hint: Copper Fox Distillery in Sperryville). Larry also happens to be the chef at the nearby B&B "Inn at the Shenandoah", which is run by his mother. We went there every day for breakfast - and would definitely do so again! The food and the coffee were excellent and the folks at the Inn are all very friendly and nice people. To sum it up: the next time we are going to the Shenandoah National Park we will definitely book the Garfield Guest House again. Thanks, Larry, for making us feel so welcome!

  • The hosts were great and provided ideas for things to do in Luray. The place was modern, clean, and well maintained. Check-in was easy and the place was great for a getaway weekend. Thanks to Larry and his wife for making our anniversary a wonderful experience!

  • The Garfield Guest house is a gem in Luray. Larry was very accomodating from the booking process to check-in. He spent time with us giving recommendations for food and activities, and they were all spot on. The suite itself was spotless and very spacious. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Shenandoah. Thanks!

    Brett2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Larry very politely pointed out that there was a discrepancy between the day I arrived and the day I actually booked. Seriously, I booked a date for the following month. My bad! Fortunately for us, Larry was willing and able to accommodate us. The guest house is clean, comfortable and quiet which is exactly what we like. The bathroom is surprisingly delightful with a huge jetted tub that I could lay down (not sit) in without bending my legs (I'm 5'9"). Also, the shower head is probably 10" round. It's more like a spa than a bathroom. There is a lot to like about the guest house, but the spa-like bathroom is my favorite part!

COMMON SPACES include the kitchen, dining room, living room and porch. The entire upstairs includes 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. All bedrooms have queen size beds. Note that the music room has a softer bed, and each room has its own thermostat for heading and cooling. The bathroom on the main floor is shared with the host that lives in the 4th bedroom downstairs.
This home is over 100 years old and has some wonderful hard wood floors, trim work, custom made furniture and trinkets collected over many decades everywhere throughout the house. We are located just off main street with easy access to everything Luray has to offer. There is plenty of parking available.
There are many things to do in Luray. There is live music performances year 'round, especially in the summer. We have a haunted house (DarkWood Manor) that is open only in October and is internationally known as the premiere hanted house. Of course, we have Luray Caverns and a wonderful car museum next door. We have a zoo, and an air port, and probably the most popular place in the summer, the Outfitters offer river rafting on the Shenandoah. The hiking is popular year 'round.
  • We stayed here for a friends wedding. Teo was easy to get in touch with and shared all the info we needed before our arrival. Stephen was great about greeting us, even when we were running much later than we thought we would be, and both were understanding when we had a death in the family and needed to quickly pack up and leave in the middle of the night our last night. Clean rooms and house in a quiet neighborhood, and conveniently located just a couple minute drive to historic Luray, as well as quick drives to some great hiking paths we were able to take advantage of.

    Crystal2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Teo and Stephen were both very hospitable and thoughtful. They had different types of foods and drinks available for us and respected our privacy. Good location to visit the Caverns and the Shenandoah park.

  • My husband and I stayed four nights. This is an older home and when we first walked in we immediately noticed all of the memorabilia on the many shelves in the house. All of the bedrooms are upstairs. We stayed in the largest room with the in suite bathroom. The bedroom was very clean. We had a microwave, coffee maker and a refrigerator in our room. The refrigerator was stocked with snacks and assorted beverages. The bathroom needs to be updated. However, it is quite roomy with lots of counter space. We enjoyed the shower with lots of hot water and very good water pressure. Teo and Steve were friendly and we enjoyed hanging out with them on Halloween evening as they passed out candy to trick or treaters. The house and street are very quiet. The bed is comfortable and we slept very well. It is conveniently close to Luray Caverns. The house felt very safe and calm. We would definitely stay again if in the area.

    Susan2017-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible place to stay! Teo and Steven are some of the nicest guys I've met. Made us feel so welcome. Room was very clean and nice. Location was great. 10 minutes from Shenandoah. 5 minutes from the caverns. If you're looking to stay in the Luray area then you have to stay here. Thanks Teo!

  • Walking distance to Main St. in Luray, and 10 min. drive to Luray Caverns and other museums. The house is clean, and bedrooms put together nicely. Teo greeted us when we arrived and had some suggestions for places to check out. Wonderful place to stay.

    Christopher2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Teo was very responsive, and accessing the location was easy. He was also very flexible with updates to our reservation. It was nice that he brought over coffee and orange juice. The rooms were clean and close to Stover Hall. The bathrooms could use updating and individual rooms didn't have locks on them--which would have been nice since someone else lives in the unit. Overall, it ended up being a spacious place right in town that was clean and served our group well.

    Kirsten2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • We were in town for a wedding and it was a great location close to downtown.

    Becky2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Teo and his house exceeded our expectations in many ways. We loved our stay and hope to get back to Luray and stay there again. We selected Teo's place because it is an affordable place to stay while exploring central Shenandoah and the Luray caverns. We liked the privacy of having the whole upper floor to ourselves and the convenience of the numerical keypad lock on the shared outer door. It is an old home with a lot of character. The towels and linens were all soft and clean, and having our choice of three beds proved to be an unexpected convenience. The three queen size foam-top mattresses were all different in firmness. We like a firm mattress, so we chose that one, but the Goldilocks one was nice too. If you like soft, there is also one for you. We were always comfortable even though the temperature varied a lot outside during our stay because we were able to control the heat and air conditioning in each of the rooms. Teo was very thoughtful and hospitable. He left some snacks and beverages for us and even asked us about our preferences before we arrived. We didn't request anything because we did not expect to avail ourselves of the snacks but to our surprise we did end up enjoying some of them because they were a nicely curated variety. He respected our privacy. We only interacted when we approached him and the one morning when we invited him to go to breakfast with us. He was a fun and interesting person to talk with over breakfast. Steven, the fellow who lives downstairs, was the same way: he kept to himself except when we invited him to have some dessert with us. He is a musician and was friendly and fun to chat with. This was a very nice experience. It is not luxury but it is comfortable, clean, friendly but not obtrusive, and professional. Thank you Teo. Highly recommended.

  • Great Cabin! Uses space efficiently, very clean. Beautiful location near Luray but it still feels secluded. It is next to 2 other cabins but there was still some privacy. Kitchen has the basics but enough that we cooked 2 great dinners there. Very highly recommended!

  • The host did an excellent job making us feel welcome and providing us with linens and towels. The hot tub is large and has lights in it, which is excellent for night bathing! We had fun wading in the river and exploring Luray. Very cozy, very clean, very affordable. I would not recommend this for 2 couples however. It is very small and open. For 5 girls it was great!!!

  • The cabin was amazing and had everything we needed. Arrival was very easy and linens were provided. The gas fireplace was great for the cold winter. This place is great for a couple or a family getaway. There was an ample kitchen with pots and pans for cooking. The hot tub was great. We can't wait to come back when it's warmer!

    Stone House with River Access
Welcome to our home! For the first time, this National Registry of Historic Places property is being opened for public use. From a pre-Revolutionary War fort, to the current modern renovations, to the blue prints of what is sure to become an oasis for getaways and events; this is not your typical weekend retreat on the river! This is an opportunity to support a historic treasure…while having a great time in a beautiful place! The Heiston-Strickler House, also referred to as “The Old Stone House”, began its’ life as an underground, stone fort with tunnel access to the Shenandoah River sometime in the early to mid-1700’s. In 1790, a two-story, stone structure was completed overtop the fort. Over the centuries, the property has had many facelifts. Wooden additions and out-buildings have been built, torn down and rebuilt. The tunnel has been flooded out and caved in. Thousands of acres of the original farmland has been divided off, sold, and rumor has it…some has been gambled away! All the while, the stone house itself has remained in the family of the original founder, Colonel Daniel Strickler. Paintings in the living room depict the house in varying stages over the last 200 years! In 2006, the current owners began one of the most thorough renovations the house has ever had! The interior was completely gutted to bare walls and dirt floor! The collapsing fort cellar was dug out, rebuilt, and reinforced with steel and concrete. The beautiful chestnut beams were exposed, repaired, and refinished. And of course amenities had to be added! Central heating and air conditioning was made possible through bulkheads and creative use of interior walls. Solid knotty alder doors were placed throughout the home including a wonderful hidden door at the entry to the fort cellar. The downstairs was designed to include: a modern kitchen with electric range, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator; a living area with a large stone fireplace; a laundry room equipped with high-efficiency washer/dryer; and a convenient half-bath. The second story has been transformed into two huge bedrooms and a massive full bathroom with a steam shower unit and a separate toilet room. Each bedroom has a queen size bed with luxury bedding, satellite television and a beautiful stone fireplace(Fireplaces` are decorative and nonoperational). At this time, the fort cellar and attic are not finished. We appreciate your understanding and compliance with avoiding use of these spaces. We will keep you posted when these spaces will be available for your enjoyment. The exterior of the house and the 5 acre property are in the infancy stage of renovation. The small front porch has undergone some repair due to weather and bug damage and now boasts a knotty alder door with a speakeasy, two large stagecoach lights, and a track mosquito netting system to allow pest free nights on the farm! A wood addition was recently taken down due to its’ irreparable state (you can still see the outline of where it was on the east wall). There is a free standing stone fireplace that was once part of an old summer kitchen which burned down long ago. Future plans for the exterior include landscaping, a sun room addition, in-laws quarters, a detached garage and stone walkways. The Shenandoah River runs along the property approximately 100 yards from the house. Immediately behind the property there is a steep bank which does not allow much river access. If you follow the property line west you will enter onto approximately ¾ mile of riverfront which is manicured for use. The owners and operators of the surrounding 100-acre beef and poultry farm reside south of the Stone House. They too are descendents and family of Colonel Strickler and are as warm and welcoming as any country-folk you could ever meet! Don’t be surprised if someone stops down and invites you to a barbeque on the river or offers to tell you stories about the property. Next to the Snyder home is a small family cemetery which is as old as the stone house itself! Generations of loved ones including Colonel Daniel Strickler are buried there and are still being laid to rest there today. You are welcome to explore the area but please remain respectful of the residents and mindful that it is a working farm. The living room and bedrooms all have televisions with satellite access. There is wireless internet and telephone service throughout the house. A Playstation and DVD player can be found in the living room. Feel free to bring some games and movies. Board games are located in the trunk. See if you can find the hidden Fort Cellar door, but please do not enter! Although structurally secure the space is unfinished and you may come face to face with a lot of unwelcome eight-legged family members! Likewise, the attic door should remain locked. The space is utilized for HVAC access and storage by owners only until the next phase of upgrades! Shower is not as intimidating as it looks!! An operating booklet is located in the bathroom. You have to turn the computer on to operate the steam unit, jets, fan, or radio. The steam unit is set at a maximum temperature of 104 degrees; you will not want any hotter than that! It takes some time to get going so turn it on a few minutes prior to use and make sure the cabin doors are closed. The radio has to be tuned manually. Sorry there are no pre-sets. The shower heads can be utilized without the computer. There is a knob below the computer you can adjust to dictate the head you wish to use (handheld, rain shower, jets). The temperature knob is extremely sensitive!!! Do not crank up or you will scold yourself. Please start out with the current setting and make very slight adjustments as necessary. Kitchen is stocked with dishes, utensils, glassware, pots/pans, coffee pot, toaster oven and all typical appliances. Charcoal grill available. MOSQUITO NETTING INSTRUCTIONS: Untie the netting and slide both sides back. There are snaps at the bottom of the columns. Although it doesn’t seal perfectly to the stone, it still does a good job at keeping the bugs out! The two front panels will stick together with magnets sewn into the seams. Please close the screens prior to turning on the front porch lights! They are the brightest lights on the farm so you can imagine!! When not in use, please tie them back on the front columns so the wind doesn’t damage them. Thank You for visiting and Enjoy your stay!!

  • Really cool old house. The inside is very comfortable and well furnished. Very nice kitchen with modern appliances. We liked that there is a washer/dryer there also. Soft, comfortable bed in the huge master bedroom. Big bathroom with dual sinks was nice also. We had no contact with the owner. It's set up more like a vacation rental than some of the other Airbnb places we've stayed. Nice quiet area close to the town of Luray.

  • We loved our stay in the Stone House. It is very comfortable and a great escape from Washington, DC.

  • We booked at the last minute and had a lot of communication from Allstar, including a check-in call the day before we got there just to make sure we had everything in order. It's conveniently located (took us less than 10 minutes to get to Luray Caverns) with very clear instructions to get there and a helpful sign at the final turn to get there. We could see chicken houses and cows, but could neither hear nor smell them - we spent the evenings listening to the river. The house was awesome! The pictures don't show you just how grand the living room is or how big the bedrooms are. Everything about this place was fantastic, we will definitely be staying again.

  • This house wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The Wi-Fi in the house is a hot spot and doesn't connect more than one device at one time. The device that is capable of connecting can barely watch a video on YouTube. There is a broken down car in the driveway that is covered in tarps. If I wanted to stay at a junk yard I could have payed less. The kitchen is labeled online as "industrial" the only thing industrial about it was the three bay sink. The fridge, oven, microwave are all regular size there is only 4ft of counterspace. The water in the house is not for drinking or cooking so be sure to bring your own so you don't have to pay for it. The house did seem clean. The kitchen was lacking and the outside was kind of shabby.

  • Acorn Hill was perfect for our quick getaway trip! Dave was always available and very helpful in giving us suggestions on what to explore. The house is also extremely well equipped with everything that one might need. We forget to bring groceries (even though Dave and Becky reminded us to!) but were pleasantly surprised with what was available in the house. The place is also very well maintained and clean. It had everything we wanted and then some more!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Acorn Hill! It is located in a very quiet and beautiful area! We were close to the river, Luray caverns and Shenandoah National Park, where we went hiking. David and Becky have made the house very cozy and provided pamphlets and information about the area, which was nice. Overall a thumbs up and would definitely stay again!

  • We made a very last minute reservation. David and Becky were quick to respond and very accommodating. David stopped by to check on us. They are great hosts. The house was great and the location perfect for what we wanted to do. We hiked in the Shanadoah National Park which was a short drive and rented kayaks which was very close to the house. My only regret was we couldn't stay longer. Very peaceful few days in the mountains.

This home is over 100 years old and has some wonderful hard wood floors, trim work, custom made furniture and trinkets collected over many decades everywhere throughout the house. We are located just off main street with easy access to everything Luray has to offer. There is plenty of parking available. Smart phone reception is great, but there is no Internet, TV or TV service.
Enjoy access to the kitchen, dining room, living room and porch area. Although smoking is not allowed in the house, it is allowed on the front porch. The porch is hidden behind 20 foot tall hedges and has a nice feel in the Spring, Summer and Fall. The 2 front bedrooms (first on left and right up the stairs) and the private bath (first on the right up the stairs) are yours and can accommodate up to 4 people.
There are many things to do in Luray. There is live music performances year 'round, especially in the summer. We have a haunted house (DarkWood Manor) that is open only in October and is internationally known as the premiere haunted house. Of course, we have Luray Caverns and a wonderful car museum next door. We have a zoo, and an air port, and probably the most popular place in the summer, the Outfitters offer river rafting on the Shenandoah. The hiking is popular year 'round.

  • The house is in a convenient location for accessing Shenandoah National Park (about 10 miles from the Thornton Gap entrance to the park). It is a no-frills house but it is comfortable and clean, and Larry (the host) was very responsive and helpful. The house is very close to downtown Luray but on a quiet street. When we rented the house (October 2017), it had recently been remodeled and so there were a few things that we expected the kitchen to have that it didn't. Larry quickly provided those for us when we told him what we were lacking. We had a great stay. I highly recommend this house for visitors to SNP.

  • This was a great place to stay in Luray. Close to everything, clean, and better than a hotel! The rooms had a mini fridge and snacks and drinks provided (Teo even emailed ahead of our stay to ask if we had any favorite drinks!) The bathroom was clean, nice soft towels, very comfy bed. Everything was quiet and private. My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay for a wedding we attended. Would highly recommend! This space would be great for a family or for a group of up to three couples.

Well appointed 3 bedroom home with 1 King, 2 Queens and 1.5 baths. Wrap around deck & under deck with private Jacuzzi room both offer AMAZING views. Fully equipped with everything needed while away from home as well as an electric fireplace for cool winter evenings. Less than a mile away is the Shenandoah River, where one can enjoy a day swimming, kayaking, tubing or fishing. Surrounded by beautiful nature, you'll feel like you're living in a tree house while staying at Grand View!
IMPORTANT INFO RE: LODGING TAX: a lodging tax of 10.3% (rounded to the nearest whole number) will be collected at check out... cash or money order accepted. Tastefully decorated and spacious the cabin can comfortably sleep 6 adults and comes fully furnished with all modern appliances. A large wrap around deck with a walkway to an adjacent dining deck offers a view of the trees below and you may even glimpse a deer or two walking through the woods. On cool winter nights enjoy the coziness of an electric fireplace while star gazing out of the large picturesque windows. Whether relaxing in comfortable living room or cooking dinner on the outdoor charcoal grill you'll truly enjoy the amazing views at Grand View! While not enjoying the offerings of Grand View, the Shenandoah River, with several public access landings, is just a half mile down the hill where you can float or paddle and enjoy a day on the water. In addition to water sports, nearby Luray, VA (home of the famous Luray Caverns) is under a half hour drive along with access to the breathtaking Sky Line Drive with its countless activities, including hiking trails and scenic overlooks. (please note: charcoal and firewood for fire pit are not provided, firewood can be found locally for $5-$10 per bundle).
the beautiful views, the nearby river, wooded outdoors, and the numerous hiking trails makes one feel as if you're living far from civilization... however shopping, restaurants, and many other activities are less than 15 miles away
  • What a wonderful place and view. When we arrived everything was perfectly as described. We had a fabulous time and want to return each year. I thank you both for always being available to quickly respond to our inquiries. Thank you ever so much for laying the foundation for a terrific meeting of childhood friends.

  • Thanks Dave for making strides to offer such an amazing value in almost out of nowhere. We enjoyed our stay and kids had a blast. We were quite happy to find everything in place. While there are neighbors around the place, they never break the silence of the place. Actually I found one of the neighbor really helpful since our TMobile phones were not working up in the mountain. I hope to return in fall in future.

  • Dave and Becky were extremely responsive to any questions I had on how to get to the cabin. The view of the valley from the cabin was beautiful. Anything you would need to enjoy your stay in the cabin was provided and clean. David personally came to the cabin to greet us when we arrived, and gave us some recommendations on activities to do. If the weather is nice, you should absolutely do the Kennedy's Peak Hike.

  • Love this place. Amazing views--you could even see the mountains and valley in the evening. We enjoyed the jacuzzi too! All around fantastic. We'll be back.

  • Description was accurate and the place was great. The house was very clean and has beautiful views. It is even better than the pictures. I would go back again and recommend to others.

  • David & Becky were great, the directions were perfect! The Cabin had lots of space, nicely shaded and the picture post is exactly what you will find as you sit on the deck and relax. One of the days we walked down the hill, across the road to where there is a boat ramp. Walked down a trail and found a great place to relax by the river! Bring supplies as you are in the country and town is probably a 15-20 min drive. FYI the grill is charcoal, so bring remember to add that to your shopping list if you plan on using it. Overall had a really great experience and would recommend their cabin to others!

  • Absolutely love the cabin. The view was amazing and much better in person than in pictures. Becky and David were very nice. They came out to meet us at the intersection to guide us up to the cabin. They made sure we had everything that we needed. The place was super clean!!!! Would definitely consider staying at one of Becky and David's places again if we are in the area.

This home is over 100 years old and has some wonderful hardwood floors, trim work, custom made furniture and trinkets collected over many decades everywhere throughout the house. We are located just off main street with easy access to everything Luray has to offer. There is plenty of parking available. Smart phone reception is great, but there is only 1 Ethernet connection and no TV or TV service.
Enjoy access to the kitchen, dining room, living room and porch area. Although smoking is not allowed in the house, it is allowed on the front porch. The porch is hidden behind 20 foot tall hedges and has a nice feel in the Spring, Summer and Fall.
