“This museum has a remarkable collection of modern and contemporary works by artists of the CoBrA (Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam) movement, founded in 1948 by Danish, Belgian and Dutch artists seeking to break away from post-war artistic conventions to create more spontaneous works that were livelier and used brighter colours. They were inspired by popular and primitive art, drawings by children and the mentally ill. A wonderful overview of (semi-) abstract Dutch art from 1945 to 1955.”

“Venustempel Sex Museum The Venustempel Sex Museum in Amsterdam is the world’s first sex museum. Housed in a 17-thcentury building in the very heart of the city, it features an extensive collection of erotic paintings, statues, recordings, photographs, and other items relating to sex and eroticism. All of the exhibits were personally curated by the owners and remain on permanent display. The main theme is the evolution of human sexuality throughout the ages. Venustempel began in 1985 with just a small display of erotic artifacts from the 19th century. Due to its huge popularity with the general public, its collection was later expanded upon, and the museum now sees more than 500,000 visitor”

“Welcome to Herengracht 605. This doublefronted town house was built in 1687, towards the end of Amsterdam's Golden Age. It was occupied by various families. You had to be very wealthy to live in a house like this, on one of the city’s smartest canals. This was certainly true of Abraham Willet and his rich wife Sandrina Louisa Geertruyda Holthuysen, who lived here from 1861 to 1895. Their lives feature strongly throughout the museum.”
