Parc
“With an area of 9,672 acres, Hartwick Pines is one of the largest state parks in the Lower Peninsula. The park's rolling hills overlook the valley of the East Branch of the AuSable River, four small lakes and unique timber lands. The principal feature of this park is the 49-acre forest of old growth pines which gives the park its name. Situated among the towering trees of one of Michigan's largest remaining stands of virgin white pine, Hartwick Pines Logging Museum depicts the state's 19th-century logging era when Michigan led the nation in lumber production. The museum is located along the Old Growth Forest Foot Trail, a quarter mile walk from the visitor center. Historical interpretation is provided by the Michigan History Center. Location: The park is located in Crawford County, northeast of Grayling on M-93, Exit 259 off I-75. ”

“The Grayling Fish Hatchery is an historic site and current fishing spot for kids (and adults). This hatchery was a DNR site that serviced the area fish stocking needs. Now no longer used for stocking, it is an educational site ran by a local angler's association. You can buy (or catch) your rainbow trout and they'll clean and bag it for you. The hatchery also has a pond on site filled with rock bass, blue gill, turtles and all sorts of warm water species. The pond is designated as a kids' fishing spot. They have free fishing poles to borrow and use and worms can be purchased for $1. This is the best place in the area to take young children.”
