Réservées à l'instant à Broughton Mills

My place is on a small, Lakeland farm set up on a hillside with wonderful views down to the Duddon estuary. You could be woken by George the cockerel who wanders the yard with his bevy of hens; otherwise, it's a wonderfully quiet, peaceful spot – on a Bank Holiday two or three walkers might pass by! The hens and three cats hang out in the yard, various sheep breeds, four ponies, and a scattering of cows populate the fields, and beyond that a gate opens to the fells.
I have one lovely double room and one twin room available in an old farmhouse (some parts of the house date from the seventeenth century), set on the southern foothills of the Lake District in north England, with splendid views and immediate walking access to the fells. Enjoy real peace and quiet, tasty breakfasts and the homely company of cats and hens. The track to the cottage is narrow, bumpy and steep in places, but delivery vans and my little Citroen C3 and plenty of other guests have managed it fine. You'll be far from the madding crowds, but you'll still have access to the modern world via wifi too! The house is my home; I have a room off the lounge where I work and sleep. It's most useful to come by car as there is no public transport in the vicinity, but I can happily pick you up from the nearest railway station, Foxfield - for a small fee - if necessary. I can accommodate from one to four guests travelling together and happy to share, as there is just one bathroom (and you'll also be sharing with me). At popular times of the year I might (rarely) offer my second room to other guests, but with discretion, and after consultation with you. My fee is £40 per person per night (though mini-persons – under 12 years – stay for half price, and micro-persons – under two – stay for free). The Blacksmith Arms - an award-winning pub - is a lovely 25-minute walk down the hill (though depending how much you enjoy their wonderful real ale and yummy grub, it could take you a lot longer to get back up!) The closest village is 3 miles away and offers other pubs and cafes, a post office, tourist information centre, a pleasant village square and a village grocer and butcher. The Lake District can be a wet, muddy and cold place sometimes, so don't forget to pack some sturdy, waterproof walking boots or wellies, and a waterproof jacket. If you fancy a sojourn in surroundings that inspired the great romantic poets, then do please come!
I live in a beautiful, quiet part of the Lake District, with views to the Irish Sea and the hills on my doorstep. The house is part of a hill farm which I share with a farming family - I live in the house, they use the barns and fields but live away on another farm. There is one pub within walking distance which is quietly renowned for really good food and it's cosy, unmodernised interior and friendly atmosphere. The nearest village is a 10-minute drive away (45 minutes by foot).

  • What a wonderful, quiet location. The house is beautiful, it has oodles of character and charm and is lovely and cosy with a fire burning away in the living room. The room was a very good size, and fitted 2 adults and 2 collies in quite easily. Breakfast was laid out every morning, and there was a good selection of foods, hot cooked breakfast on offer as well. The walks from the house are spectacular and there are a good few to choose from. The local pub is gorgeous-cosy and serving great food. Kate was fantastic, she is a lovely host and made us feel right at home from the word go. We cannot wait to go back!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Hawes farm in the Lakes District. It was nice and relaxing and Kate is a wonderful host, making you feel right at home. A great breakfast with fresh eggs and milk is served each morning, and Kate has some good tips for exploring the area.

    Josh2014-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Kate's place is a gorgeous house in a scenic countryside. The road to get there is a bit steep and narrow but you'll be welcome by hens, mud and smiling people. Her home is the one you dream of when you want to think, when you want to read a book by a fire or when you want to rest your mind. You can have a lot of privacy or you can chat away with Kate and Jesse. Please, do stay more than one night or you'll regret it.

  • Kate was a wonderful host and her house is, like other people have stated, simply magical. We had a great time getting to know Kate and really enjoyed getting the true rural experience after our stay in London. I gather the Lake District can be very touristy in certain areas (we decided against visiting Hill Top Farm for this reason), and this was a great escape from everything. The setting of the farmhouse, nestled in the fells was so beautiful and we were lucky enough to enjoy sunshine and warm days! One day we stayed there and did a walk through the fells and stayed out until sunset. The hills were covered in baby lambs and wildflowers, and we couldn't get enough of it. Coming back for tea time to find carrot cake and a note was just the literal icing on the cake. We will always treasure our time here, and were sad to leave. When my boyfriend mentioned he liked Coleridge she offered up her own books for our perusal-- so very kind and generous. The bed and room are very comfortable with a perfect view and lovely breakfast options. The driving was a bit nerve racking for us, but the views and unique experience was worth it by far. Thanks Kate! Hope we make it over again in the future.

  • We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Hawes Farm. In idyllic surroundings, with farmhouse comforts, a lovely welcome from Kate and a perfect stopping point to visit the Lakes. We'd recommend it to anyone.

    Jessica2016-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a location and what a host! Kate really made us feel at home from the moment we arrived to the minute we left going over and above all expectations and we were truly blessed by her kindness and considerate nature which perfectly complemented the stunning setting of this magnificent national trust period country farmhouse. Views to die for folks! It was my wife's 30th and Kate added to the already laid out DIY farmhouse breakfast with some gluten free homemade scones on her big day along with a card and a little gift! She got wind of my wife's gluten intolerance and went out of her way to buy her bread as well which is no small order sourcing out in the sticks! Kate also picked us up from the pub when we were too drunk and lost to tackle the fells in the dark! Kate managed all this without ever intruding on our personal space and was very intuitive to keep that balance. An altogether wonderful experience and we would surely come again, albeit in a more suitable vehicle! The track is indeed bumpy with a capital B and not suited for low profile cars, saloons and the like. You will not fail to have a fantastic time! Ben and Lydia

  • an all round perfect, peaceful stay for me. Kate, is a lovely host with care in her mind for her guests, and very accommodating. Hills and green fields are all around ' with a must walk or drive down to the local pub in the valley.

Soria

  • Janet is a great host and it was our second stay at her place. The place itself is very well equipped and quiet. Would love to come back again.

  • Beautiful cottage, wonderful location, great hosts!

  • This is an ideal cottage for two people. It had all we required. It is so quiet and peaceful with amazing views over the valley. It is within easy reach of the major attractions. The cottage is warm with all mod cons. We were especially pleased with the wifi as there was no phone signal. The Blacksmith's Arms nearby was a wonderful find. We ate there a couple of times. Brilliant stay. Even better than we had hoped. Thank you

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was warm, cosy and had such fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. Janet and her family made us feel really welcome. We would recommend the walks in the area and a trip to the Blacksmiths Arms where the food and welcome are lovely after a long walk. Will certainly be returning to the cottage !!!!

  • The cottage was very clean, comfy, and well equipped. The directions were really good, we had no trouble finding the place. Janet was very friendly and accommodating, even though we were extremely late on our check in! An ideal place to stay for a short break, really peaceful with lovely views, warm and very Comfy bed which is just what you need after a day of walking! We would definitely stay again! Thank you!

    Grace2015-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • We didn't actually stay in the cottage listed but we did take a peek and it looked cosy and modern and just fine for two people. We stayed next door in a much larger dwelling and could not have been happier. Janet is a lovely host who makes sure you're well set up and then just leaves you to it. One of her sons and his young family live just opposite so you have the benefit of an onsite presence if needs be. The situation itself is just heavenly - as far from the madding crowd as it's possible to imagine without being an overly far from the southern joys of Conniston and Windermere. So beautiful that we really wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Thank you Janet and family!

The accommodation is a recently renovated part of the Corn Mill, set in the Lickle valley, Broughton Mills. A quiet area of outstanding beauty and tranquillity. Only 7 miles from Coniston and 2 miles from the Duddon valley, with the closest village Broughton being also 2 miles away.
This is the ideal place for walkers and mountain bikers to explore the surrounding beauty of this hidden gem. The pub 100m up the road, The Blacksmiths Arms is renowned for very good food. Broughton our closest village has a bakery, grocery/butcher shop, post office, cafe's, pubs, petrol stations and a tourist information centre.
  • Janet and Howard's place is amazing! Literally could not find one fault. It's spotlessly clean and set in beautiful surroundings. The pub up the road is brilliant as well. I can't see how you could get much better. Fantastic place to get away and relax.

  • Cosy little secluded cottage, nicely presented with lovely decor. Rooms have beautiful views of the countryside Perfect place to come back to and cosy up to the fireplace after a big day exploring the Lake District. The cottage was well equipped with everything you need. Janet and Howard were excellent hosts, very friendly and happily provided advice on best places to go around the Lake District. We would happily recommend this cottage to our friends and family we cannot wait to go back sometime soon. Also, there is a great quint essentially British pub 200 metres up the road.

  • We had a really lovely stay at Malt Kiln. Janet and Howard were very welcoming. They provided a high chair for our little boy which was really thoughtful. And the cake went down a treat! We had a small issue with the shower but that's rural living for you! Janet and Howard swiftly rectified the problem. A lovely setting with beautiful views and the Blacksmiths Arms for tea is a must!

    Lydia2016-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Janet and Howard are lovely, friendly, hospitable hosts. They really made us feel completely welcome. Janet had baked a yummy lemon loaf and they gave us local information regarding places to eat and walk etc. I loved the bird feeder outside the kitchen window and the bubbling brook flowing past. It really couldn't be better. 200 meters up the road is a wee pub called The Blacksmiths Arms, I think, AMAZING food, really wonderful atmosphere, thoroughly recommend. We wish we could have stayed longer, wonderful :)

    Susie2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great 5 nights stay at Janet & Howard's lovely cottage, great location with fabulous views. The cake was a welcome bonus and Howard and Janet were happy to help with anything, even providing a hairdryer when I realised I hadn't brought mine! Thank you, highly recommended

    Nicola2015-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Where to begin!? We had a wonderful stay in this gorgeous cottage with a glorious view onto the Lake District hills and nearby brook. Interior had just the right balance between rustic and modern, and was spacious, bright and clean. Janet had provided everything we needed, above and beyond, lending us a backpack, giving us lovely walking tips, making a freshly baked cake on arrival...the list goes on. We also enjoyed a delicious meal (sticky toffee pudding is a must-try) at the very nearby pub the Blacksmith Arms. Having a one year old with us was also no problem at all (high chair and camping bed available too). We definitely recommend!

The cottage was so well equipped and such great value for money, we were welcome with a home made cake which was perfect after our long drive. The views were incredible both sides and we couldn't recommend enough. We will definitely be coming back!! Thank you so much Janet and Howard xxx

Stephenson Ground is a 5 bedroom Grade 2 listed farmhouse built between 1750 and 1860. Set in a hidden corner of the SW Lake District, it's 1/2 mile from its nearest neighbour with stunning views on all sides. This is a gloriously peaceful place in which to relax and make yourselves at home. We welcome guests who love the outdoors and are looking for a comfortable home-from-home rather than hotel-style accommodation. Dogs welcome for extra charge of £20 per dog.
The house and barns sit either side of a quiet lane that loops around a small but dramatic valley. The approach road is steep and very narrow in places so be prepared! All the windows face south across sheep-grazed fields and woodland down to the Duddon Estuary and the Irish Sea. Behind the house are the fells and mountains of the Lake District. Please understand that this is NOT luxury accommodation - the house is remote and decor is simple so if you're after designer paint colours and being online all the time, this is not the right house for you. But if you want to shut out the world for a bit, kick off your boots after a glorious fell walk, cook a big meal with family and friends and drink wine late into the night around a log fire then we think you'll love it as much as we do. The house has been owned by our family for the past 45 years and is very much the centre of our family life. Spring and autumn are perfect times for walking and exploring this beautiful area. Even in high summer, the tourist hoards never make it to this remote area. If you're planning a winter visit, please check with us first about local weather as the house can become inaccessible in snowy or icy conditions.
This is a perfect base from which to explore the Lake District, either on foot or by car. Beautiful walks of varying length and difficulty are accessible right from the front door as the house is situated at the junction of two fell tracks – the Walna Scar trail (and the Old Man of Coniston) and one leading to the famous Duddon Valley. Lowland walks along the quiet lanes and the many forestry footpaths provide gentler walking. For more exotic entertainment, water sports are available at Coniston Water 8 miles away and the tourist attractions of Windermere, Ambleside, Wastwater and Tarn Hows are all within a hour’s drive.
  • The cottage has absolutely stunning views. We were lucky with the weather and could see out to to sea and everywhere surrounding. The cottage is very rural, but we loved this as we could be as loud and up as late as we wanted without disturbing anyone. On our trip we went walking around Coniston and Grizedale but could have easily stayed where we were and walked straight out the door. The cottage has lots of character and plenty of space - we loved using both the log fires and having big family style meals in the dining room. It's got some great rooms to explore including using the games room outside in the barn! We would definitely come back! Thanks Kerry, we had a great time!

    Hannah 2016-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for our family gathering. Spacious generally well equipped old stone farm house with lots of historical artefacts and charm. Owners description generally accurate.

    Nick2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Farmhouse and outbuildings are quintessential Lake District! Stone walls, wooden gates, sheep, small stream and nice hiking! The trek to the house is quite narrow and our 9passenger can felt a squeeze in a few places. But we made it in and out multiple times with no trouble. Enjoyed the scenic drive to Ambleside and Windermere. Fine view from the farm to the sea! Many beds for our large group (3adults and 5kids), well equipped kitchen, great place to relax and enjoy nature.

    Matthew2017-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Kerry was a brilliant host and easy to get in touch with !! We loved the area and the walks she suggested. Thank you Kerry

    Minas2016-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • We greatly enjoyed our time at Stephenson Ground. We comfortably fit a party of 7 (4 adults, 3 children). The house could easily fit several more. The children and adults loved the character of the house - the decorations with farming tools, the books about the Lake District, the stock of games, and how much there is to explore just by walking out the front door. The location is off the beaten track, so you will need to take Kerry seriously when she says to get to Broughton via SatNav and then follow her direction. You'll also need to plan appropriate transit time if you want to reach activities in the popular Lake District places like Windermere (we didn't - we filled our 2 1/2 days exploring around the house, and easily could have spent many more). Kerry is a great hostess. She was in touch before our stay to make sure everything was in order when we arrived, and checked in with us during our stay as well. Overall an excellent holiday stay for our family.

    Shawn2016-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stephenson's Ground is located in an idyllic and surely little visited corner of the Lake District. It is a wonderful rambling traditional farmhouse which has clearly been lived in and loved for centuries. The house has been modernised where necessary and was warm and cosy with an amazing kitchen range! There was plenty of space for six adults, two teenagers an active toddler and a baby and the dining room/ reception was the centre of activities, with its long farmhouse table and wood burner. Kerry (the host) made sure that everything was perfect for us and was very communicative prior to and after our stay. The information she provided was more than adequate for us to make the best of our holiday in the area. We all absolutely loved our stay and would thoroughly recommend Stephenson's Ground as a holiday location to get away from it all.

    Darryl2016-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay for my 30th birthday. The house is full of character, has plenty of space for lots of guests and is in a beautiful, remote setting. It's a great spot for getting to other parts of the lakes - we explored Coniston, the Eskdale Valley and climbed Scafell Pike, as well as having a couple of beautiful walks straight out of the front door. After active days, Stephenson Ground was a cosy, homely place to come back to with hot showers, sofas round the fire and comfy beds. Thank you Kerry for letting us stay!

    Ruth2016-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Stephenson Ground is an amazing place to stay with friends and family. As a part of 14, the house was spacious and met all our needs. Everything you could need is in the house - washing machine and dryer, excellent basic food supplies for guests to use (more herbs than we have at home!), games, pots and pans for every meal, and much more! We had 6 children aged 2-11 in the party and they didn't want to leave. A great location, beautiful views and brilliant contact from our host. We'll definitely return!

Moss Side Cottage is a traditional 400 year old Lakeland Home. Nestled in Woodland Valley just outside the historic village of Broughton in Furness. A traditional Lakeland farm having cows, sheep, ponies, ducks and hens. Fantastic views and walks, with a Hot tub waiting in the garden to sooth those aches and pains after a great days exploring. Footpaths lead from the garden, allowing visitors to walk into the village which takes about 40 min giving access to cafes, shops, pubs, restaurant etc
The Cottage sleeps 10 people in total. Four bedrooms, having two family rooms with a double and single bed in each, plus two double rooms. All rooms having great views over the garden, and beyond to the river and fells, and high lofty beamed ceilings. Large sitting room with views, beams and woodburner. Two bath/shower rooms, laundry room and well equipped kitchen. Walled in private garden to rear with private HOT TUB and extensive garden area to front. A foot path takes you from the farm to the village taking aprox 30 mins.
Being at the Southern End of the English Lake District we are just out of the hussle and bussle of the central Lakes, however if thats what you are looking for we are a simple 15/20 min drive away. The scenery here is second to non, having the fells, mountains, rivers and the Irish Sea just a 10 min drive away. No traffic jams, a slower pace of life mixing with the locals in the village. Broughton has 4 pubs (3 serving food) a restaurant, 2 cafes, butcher, baker......... alas no candle stick maker, general grocer (sells candles) bank, post office, tourist info and petrol station. All welcome guests to the area walkers, bikers, dogs and all.

Brock Cottage is an idyllic base for exploring the Lake District and Cumbria's south and west coasts. Nestled in a historic cobbled courtyard, this romantic cottage is a moment's walk from the Georgian square and the pubs, restaurants and shops of Broughton-in-Furness. Our 18th Century cottage has beams and an open fire. The bench in the courtyard, and the rear seating area with barbecue overlooking gardens both catch the sun at different times of day, making this the ideal place to relax.
The cottage dates from the 1750s, with a slate floor in the living room. The open fire is set for a cosy night in, with a full coal scuttle provided. Additional fuel is available from the garage in Broughton. There is a bike locking point under the archway. A high chair, travel cot and stair gate on the ground floor are provided. Zip & link super-kingsize bed available as alternative to 2 singles in first floor room - please let me know if you would like this. Up to 2 dogs welcome downstairs only: please use stair gate! (let me know if you are bringing a dog when you book)
Broughton has a Georgian square complete with stocks, and several pubs serving food, plus Beswick's restaurant. Recently filmed for the BBC's 2nd series of The "A" Word, airing autumn 2017. There is a café on the square, the award-winning bakery also has a café, and the butcher and village store with delicatessen both feature local produce. You can walk from the door, including round the grounds of Broughton Tower, there is a children's play park, and a tennis court able to be booked if you are feeling sporty.
  • Absolutely gorgeous little cottage, perfect for a weekend getaway! Extremely comfy beds, cosy living areas and perfectly situated for walks and trips out into the rest of the lakes. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely stay here again! x

  • Brock cottage is cosy, warm and very comfortable. Ali is a wonderful host with whom communication was very good. I will certainly stay here again when back in South West Lakes

  • Ali's house is everything and more. A gorgeous quaint cottage in a beautiful part of the Lakes district. A hidden gem. We really hope to be back another day soon.

  • A great cottage. We were 4 adults, a baby and two dogs. The cottage is cosy, but we didn't feel like we were on top of each other. Bedrooms were comfortable and the place was very clean. There are nice local walks, and the pubs in the village are excellent. We'd definitely stay here again.

  • Lovely cottage in the heart of the lakes. A great base to take in the surrounding delights or even staying closer to home. Very homely with great walks and views. The cottage was very well presented and in keeping with the locale yet still modern. The host communicated well. The whole experience was fuss free and good value for money.

  • We loved this charming little cottage right next to the beautiful countryside. The house was very thoughtfully equipped with everything that one might need, including a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread on our arrival. We thought it was very nice of Ali. We loved the cottage which has a lot of charm and lovely features. The local pub offered very good food, but everything in the village closes very early so you have to plan eating out or shopping for food - which was excellent - the village shop is stocked with lots of fresh local fruit and veg., the butcher's is very good , too. We went on nice walks - one is quite spoilt for choice - woods, rivers, lakes, hills.. Very nice indeed. Lots of touristy attractions around, but we only had time for a steam train. Highly recommend - and thank you, Ali!

  • Great place, very nicely decorated, with everything you need, lots of maps and guide books of the area, good wifi, very clean, comfy beds and even some bread and milk left for you when you arrive! Close to a lot of very nice pubs and beautiful walks whether on the beach, by Coniston lake, or in the mountains. The ideal place for a great weekend!

  • We had a great week and thought the Duddon valley was fantastic. It's a brilliantly quiet and totally gorgeous valley. If you're a serious cyclist, you can cycle round the valley, and will be well rewarded. We don't recommend cycling on the A road that the house is on. For walks, you need to get off that trunk road too. There are lovely walks from Broughton, especially to Duddon Sands, but it's not safe to walk on the A road to Broughton.

  • Simon's communication was always prompt and he was very accommodating as a host. Ash barn is a lovely place, and far better equipped than many other places I've stayed. It was a great weekend away!

  • A beautiful barn in remote surroundings, just as described. Simon was really quick to respond to any queries and very helpful. A great place to have as a base for exploring the lakes. Thanks for a great stay.

  • Simon is warm, friendly and quick to answer any questions. Directions to the property are spot on. The property itself is spacious, well equipped and the open plan living space is lovely enabling the whole family to be together. The view from the garden is stunning, a gorgeous place to chill out when the suns shining. I would 100% recommend a stay here. We did Coniston and Windemere, both not far. Thank you for a lovely stay

My friends and I want to return someday to explore more the area. We were 6 people so just we needed. Very nice area.

Picturesque SW Lakes town. Perfect for walking, cycling, exploring & relaxing. Ideal base for touring main Lakes attractions (with own transport) whilst lovely to return to calm after day trips out and about... Away from the crowds..welcoming peace!
Picturesque South Lakes/Duddon Valley. 3 generous, comfortable guest bedrooms in a homely, 1640's townhouse in the heart of our historic market town. A peaceful place to return to after walking, cycling or exploring the busier central lakes. Our 6 bedroom home comprises of cosy rooms downstairs. Both sitting rooms have real fires. Our dining room can seat 8+ The 3 guest bedrooms, all on the first floor, are 2 doubles and a triple (super king size & single, can take an extra Zbed or cot). This means we can comfortably accommodate a group booking of 8 (9 if the cot goes in bedroom 2). We are perfectly suited to family groups with children, ours is a child friendly household! Great for couples too! All bedrooms have Freeview TV & DVD. Our guest bedrooms have tea/coffee facilities. Our kitchen is also available, by arrangement, for people wishing to self-cater. The shared bathroom is generously sized with separate bath/shower cubicle, next to the bedrooms. There is also our bathroom, on the 2nd floor, for limited use (by arrangement). Our lounge may be used during the day or join us in the evening while we chill after work, and there is also the cosy family room, with TV, next to the kitchen (great for social catering!), leading to our outdoor area at the rear. Full sun in the mornings during summer, shady in the afternoons and a chiminea & BBQ for evening drinkies/ bbqs. Also access to dishwasher, (washing machine & dryer by arrangement). We warmly welcome our guests and are happy to share local knowledge, information, advice, and generally chat over a coffee, tea, beer or wine.......or to leave guests to their privacy. We have maps for local & lakes walks available as well as a wealth of tourist information all contained in handy folders in the bedrooms. B. In F. has a lovely friendly atmosphere and is quite cosmopolitan. It is situated within England's largest, famous, Lake District National Park. Many people visit, and find that they end up living here as it has so much to offer! We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, with lots of lovely walking. There are pubs, shops, cafés and more within easy walking distance (please do take the time to look at the guidebook pegs for lots of local places of interest!) Car travellers can park in the Square on arrival. Foxfield Station is approx. 2 miles away (on the West Coast line), South to Barrow in Furness or North to Carlisle (we can pick up guests arriving at Foxfield Station by prior arrangement). There are infrequent buses to & from Millom, Ulverston & Barrow, (from the Square). During high days and holidays extra buses to Ambleside/ Ravenglass are laid on. However, I recommend that to get the most out of touring central Lakes etc, you really need your own transport. Barrow in Furness (13 miles) is our major shopping town and has everything you would expect of a large town/city. Ulverston is a traditional market town, very quaint. The nearest small supermarkets are in Millom (7 miles).

  • Sheila is a very friendly host and her guesthouse is located in a beautiful village in the Lake District. Perfect location to visit this beautiful part of the country. Also, very quiet and peaceful, yet with several choices for food and drinks at walking distance. The rooms were very clean and we slept really well. Perfect continental breakfast, that we really loved. Recommended for families with kids as there is a large room with one oversize king and two single beds. • We had a wonderful weekend stay at Copper Rigg. Easy to find. Super comfy beds. Excellent kitchen. Perfect place to come home to after a day of hiking in the Lakes! Cottage is also equipped with tonnes of literature on things to do nearby which was helpful.

  • The cottage was easy to find using the directions provided. The key was easily obtained. The cottage was nice and clean with a very spacious feel. Very well equipped too and the kids toys were a nice touch. The village itself is very small but has a very well stocked general store and the bakery is superb! The location suited us perfectly as within 30 minutes' drive you can either reach Coniston or Grizedale or head towards the beach at Haverigg. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

  • We had a very relaxing holiday. The cottage is very well equipped, clean and tidy. Exactly as portrayed in photos. The village is lovely with a good butcher and bakers very close to the cottage. The local pubs have a great selection of well kept real ales and bar food. Nice walk along old railway line. Lots of local information from Amanda before we arrived was much appreciated.

  • Lovely house with everything you need. Easy access to the amazing walks and sights the Lake District has to offer. Communication was excellent from the moment of booking to us arriving. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Copper Rigg is a great Airbnb property, with everthing we needed. It is clean and comfortable, and with excellent facilities - well fitted kitchen, downstairs loo, tv & wifi. For a winter break it is prefect - warm and cosy. Lots of local info provided. In addition to the more challenging Lake District routes in the area, there is a disused railway line just around the corner which is flat and firm underfoot which is ideal for an evening stroll. The local bakery is highly recommended - wonderful artisan bread and mouthwatering cakes. Great directions from Amanda makes Copper Rigg easy to find. Thanks for the shortbread!

My quiet one bed flat is in the centre of Broughton in Furness, a small market town in the southern Lake District. It is ideally situated for the range of shops, pubs and facilities that Broughton offers, and there is private allocated parking. The flat is located on the first floor of a small block of four.
Through the communal entrance and into no 3. there is an entrance hallway with washing machine, a bathroom with bath and shower, double bedroom and lounge / kitchenette. Extra storage on the landing can be used for bikes , outdoor equipment etc. Broughton itself offers much throughout the year including an Annual Beer Festival, many musical events, theatre and even a film club. It is also ideally situated to explore the quieter southern & western Lakes, whilst still only half an hour from Windermere & even less to Coniston. The flat would especially appeal to outdoorsy singles or couples. Public wifi is widely available in Broughton and BT Wifi will be in the flat from August 10th.

Andrew was the perfect host: excellent communication, helpful suggestions and very accommodating in meeting us late at night for check in. When you stay you should have supper at the Blacksmith's Arms in Broughton Mills, the food was excellent. I would highly recommend Andrew and his flat.

Broughton in Furness is in South Western corner of Lake District so is about 45 minutes away from Helvellyn, Grassmere etc. On the plus side it is a lovely little village that is not overrun with tourists

Cosy room available in my lovely little house in the middle of the popular village of Broughton in Furness. I live here most of the time but I work long hours so you would have the place to yourself a lot of the time, particularly during the week. There are tea and coffee making facilities in your room so you don't have to wander far to make a brew.
Guests are welcome to use the fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. There are tea and coffee making facilities in your room, as well as a television with access to Netflix and Amazon Prime. Towels can be provided, and guests can make use of picnic blankets for when the sun is shining (or umbrellas for when it isn't!)
Friendly and safe neighbourhood, with a whole host of local pubs and places to eat. Broughton is a lovely little village with plenty of walking to be done. Coniston and Ulverston are 15-20 mins drive away, and Barrow in Furness is approx 25 mins drive away. Broughton is on the edge of The Lake District and is surrounded by mountains, fields and nature. It is also not far from several beaches!
  • Katie was the perfect host, super easy going & great to talk to. Her unit was beautifully clean & within easy walking distance to the centre of the village. There are two pubs that serve food in the village but you need to book. Not impressed with the staff attitude at the Old Kings Head so opted for the Black Cock Inn which offered great food & service. Broughton in Furness is at the southern end of the Lakes with direct access to the northern attractions & I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a visit.

  • Just back from a fantastic stay in this lovely little room. Katie was an exceptional host! Upon arrival there were towels, a dog treat, dog shampoo for my dog and a hamper with food essentials for my stay. Nothing was too much trouble and I couldn't help but feel welcomed and that Katie had gone above and beyond to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. The location of the property is in a lovely little village, with most places accessible within approximately 30 minutes drive. I will not hesitate to book to stay here again for my next stay in the Lake District! Thank you again Katie, I will certainly be recommending your room to anyone who asks! :)

Lots of tourist information and leaflets given, along with complementary tea/coffee/snacks Parking space provided Location is in a small village on the edge of the Lake District, with most places accessible within a half an hours drive.

  • This was my first experience of booking through airbnb so I wasn't really sure what to expect. It was fabulous! Everything was as described or better. My room in Katie's cottage was extremely comfortable and clean and it was great to be able to use the kitchen facility to cook a meal and to prepare breakfasts and packed lunches. The cottage is in the lovely little village of Broughton-in-Furness with a couple of nice pubs within walking distance. Although I didn't see much of Katie in person, her communication throughout the whole stay was excellent.

    Cath2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Katie's for 5 nights in July 2017. The house itself is tucked away in a nice location in Broughton (and because Broughton is pretty small, it's within easy walking distance of the pubs and the excellent local butchers). The inside of the house is nicely decorated, clean and very comfortable. All the amenities you'd expect from a modern house were present. Katie was away for the majority of my stay, and she kindly let me use the cooking facilities and the living space etc. She was a laid back, friendly and attentive host, and made sure I had everything I needed. I definitely stay here again :)

    Alex2017-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • The room was exactly as it was advertised, a cosy room. The place was extremely clean and tidy and Katie thought of everything to ensure I had everything I could possibly want or need for my stay. She communicated well about everything and was clear and always got back to me quickly if I had questions before my arrival. The place was quiet and had everything in it including maps of the area and wifi. I also had use of the kitchen so was able to cook my own food. Broughton in furness is a particularly beautiful area and easy to drive to other places such as ulverston,or coniston.

My place is situated at the heart of the Duddon Valley near Broughton-in-Furness. It is a beautiful valley that lends itself to walking, climbing, cycling and canoeing amongst other things. We are a newly renovated B and B that offers a stunning location and views. The room has a super king sized bed or can be converted into a twin depending on your requirements. We have 2 other rooms under seperate listings. There are no pets on the premises.
The room has a super king size double bed or can be used as a twin room depending on your requiremamts. The room has an en-suite shower, Sky free view box, DVD player, tea and coffee making facilities and dressing gown and slippers for use during your stay.
The valley does not have any tourist attractions therefore is a perfect place for a quiet retreat. On some walks you may not see another person all day. We have no mobile signal here.
  • Best B&B ever!

  • Thank you both for a lovely stay. Both bed and breakfast were incredible! Best breakfast in Cumbria perhaps? It was great to hear all about the beautiful Duddon Valley.

  • Very Modern, Very secluded, beautiful place to stay for time in the hills or coniston village.

  • Alwyn does the most wonderful breakfasts. Both she and Paul are very welcoming. The house is spic n span. They have a wonderful collection of DVDs if you ever fancy a night in. And above all the room was cosy, bed was very comfortable and many power outlets to charge up all your gadgets. Had an enjoyable stay.

  • Do you want a host who knows how to pamper? A room that's clean and private? A breakfast that lasts all day? A king size bed that's more than comfy? An experience that makes you wish you scheduled a longer stay? Try Alwyn's place. She and Paul have all of the above - and more!

  • We had a lovely stay here for a weekend of hiking and relaxing. Breakfast was great and we slept really well in the very comfy room. Our hosts were also really helpful with great suggestions of where to walk and eat in the evenings. Thanks Nathan and Annette

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shepherds Hut. A tranquil, beautiful location with an equally beautiful hut. Amenities were excellent and hosts very welcoming.

  • The Shepherds Huts are an absolutely brilliant idea & they’ve been really well made! We stayed in ‘Swallow’ which was one of two huts on the land. Sarah was the perfect host, as were her family who welcomed us on arrival - they were onsite, friendly & welcoming, but not intrusive at all. The conservatory area is ideal, with everything you need - great shower, clean toilet & kitchen area etc. The log burner was brilliant, but be warned it will make your hut super toasty! :-) We thought the huts were really good value for money, Sarah could easily charge more as they were the perfect glamping base for the weekend. All the comforts of home from home. Thank you, Lauren & Mike :-)

  • My boyfriend and I stayed in the Swallow shepherd's hut for a couple of nights during a visit to explore the Lake District. Cosy and comfortable stay in the hut which had everything we needed including a log fire. Sarah was a lovely and welcoming host with great suggestions for local places to eat - but be sure to book in advance or you may not get a table. We were actually quite sad to leave and would definitely return again. Marvellous.

This gorgeous cottage is set in the dramatically beautiful Duddon Valley. It's spacious, stylish and very well equipped with fantastic walks from the door. The cottage has an enclosed garden where you can sit and listen to the nearby waterfall and mountain stream. It's very peaceful but there are loads of things to do and see nearby, like the little Eskdale steam train and the Owl Sanctuary at Muncaster. The Lake District's favourite attractions are also within easy reach. With Sky TV and wifi.
Everybody loves Oakbank because it's spacious but cosy and really quiet and peaceful. It's got a downstairs single bedroom next to a shower-room/loo, which is handy for mobility-challenged and older folks. There's a big sitting room with oak beams and a log-burner. It's got a desk with wifi and a decent-sized TV with the full Sky TV package. Yay!
The Duddon Valley has the beautiful, rushing river Duddon running through it with high fells on either side. There are grassy banks next to the shallow river that kids and dogs love. About a 10 minute drive away is a little market town called Broughton in Furness with some amazing food shops including a home bakery. Yum. Tesco will deliver to the cottage too. There are a lot of great things to see and do in the area - the little Eskdale steam train to the coast, the Cumbrian Heavy Horses Centre, the Owl Sanctuary at Muncaster, Go Ape at Coniston about 30 minutes away, Wastwater, which is stunning, the Roman Fort on the deliciously scary Hardknott Pass and there are also beautiful sandy beaches ideal for a day out. Other famous Lake DIstrict attractions like Ambleside and Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm are around 40 minutes drive so no problem. This area has some of the most dramatic scenery in the Lakes but it isn't crowded or touristy. There are a lot of outdoor sports in the area - canoeing, mountain biking, fishing, climbing, outdoor swimming - and some scenic golf courses.

  • Fantastic cottage set in idyllic countryside. Beautiful and peaceful. Perfect for dog owners - the garden is totally secure. Sleeps 8 very comfortably indeed. Loads of space indoors and out and everything you need is in the cottage. Couldn't fault it. Great pub 3 miles up the road in seathwaite, the new field inn I think it's called. Service was a bit slow but it's a small place with amazing views and the food was well worth the wait. Have some insect repellent for the evening if you want to sit out as the nearby river does create midges Paul

  • My family and I had a lovely week at Oakbank Cottage. The cottage is spacious and well-equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The cottage is tucked away amid woodland, right next to a babbling stream, and is ideally located to discover the stunning, but quiet Duddon Valley.

Oakbank Cottage in the Lake District

The Low Farm is a beautiful, 17th century, stone Long House in the breath taking Duddon valley. This traditional Lakeland cottage has generous accommodation for up to nine guests and has many original features, including flagstone and Oak floors, beamed ceilings, wood burning stove, open fire places, original doors and timber panelling. It sits on a generous plot with beautiful gardens, great views & ample parking, just a short walk from the babbling, clear waters of the River Duddon.
The accommodation consists of a farmhouse kitchen, dining room, living room, snug / second living room, downstairs cloakroom, utility / drying room (in adjoining barn), 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom, bunk room, family bathroom and shower room. There is wifi (not fast due to location) and a coin operated pay phone (mobile signal poor) for outgoing calls.
The spectacular scenery of the unspoiled Duddon valley made it a favourite location of both William Wordsworth and Alfred Wainwright, both of whom wrote extensively about this beautiful part of the Lake District. Whilst in an ideal location to access the central & southern lakes and all the amenities on offer, the pretty village of Ulpha is an oasis of peace and quiet in an area still dominated by traditional fell farming. It is situated 4 miles north of Broughton-in-Furness & is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, anglers, nature lovers and those just looking to rest, relax, breathe fresh air and take in the sights. The village of Ulpha has a small shop / post office and the Newfield Inn / restaurant is 1.5 miles (comfortable walk) away in neighboring Seathwaite. The Blacksmith’s Arms in Broughton Mills (4 miles) serves great food and local beers and there are numerous other hostelries in nearby Broughton-in-Furness and Eskdale.  The Stepping Stones and Memorial Bridge in Ulpha are popular spots for swimming, picnicking or just messing about by the river. There is great fishing in the area, Wasdale & Eskdale are a short drive away and for those looking for a bigger challenge Scafell Pike (highest mountain in England) and The Old Man of Coniston are within easy reach. And if its a day at the beach you’re looking for there is a lovely coastline and shingle beaches at Haverigg, Silecroft & Silloth, between 10 & 12 miles to the south. There are many tourist attractions in the area, including Muncaster Castle and Ravenglas & Eskdale Railway.

Coalgate Cottage is at the end of a single track tarmac farm lane in a small hamlet of 4 homes, and situated on the outskirts of Broughton in Furness enjoying stunning views of Coniston, Black Coomb and the Duddon Estuary. It is straight out of the gate and onto the Cumbrian Coastal Path, and a lovely walk into Broughton or Foxfield with their award winning shops and pubs.

Bigert Mire Cottage is a traditional stone Lakeland cottage situated in a hamlet in the unspoilt Duddon Valley. It is our weekend home, providing tranquillity and an escape from the bustle of modern life - a superb place to bring friends and relax. We cannot use it as much at the moment so we have been renting it out and the feedback has been simply amazing :-) We hope you love it as much as we do. You can see more blog posts about the cottage by searching for "Bigert Mire Cottage"
The cottage originates from circa 1744 and has individual charm and character. The central heating radiators are heated by the wood burning stove, there are also electric radiators in each room. Please note that the house is not perfect - in particular there are a few areas that need repainting - but it is generally in very good condition and the feedback from guests has been amazing. Please also note that the hamlet of Bigert Mire is off the beaten track and guests need to drive along some narrow country lanes ( proper public tarmac roads but small ). We think that this is part of its charm but would not suit people wanting to walk across the road to a pub. If the roads are not passable due to ice or snow in winter ( doesn't happen a lot but it can obviously happen ) we will give you a refund for any affected nights.
Broughton-in-Furness, a busy and popular market town, is a ten minute drive away - it is well worth a visit with cafes, numerous pubs and an excellent butchers/greengrocers. It also has a good playground for the kids. Further afield there are all of the attractions of the Lakes from mountains, cycling, lake cruises, boat hire and many visitor attractions. If you search the internet for "Bigert Mire Cottage" you will find more information.
  • The place was great! So quiet and peaceful, the fire place was a lovely touch!! We didn't realise quite how far we were from everything, but that didn't matter because we had a car! The neighbours were lovely too!

  • accurate description of this lovely quaint cottage in an idyllic hamlet with 4 other cottages with permanent residents. Very comfortable. Heaters available in every room, though we did not need except once on low in the lounge. Walks from the door. Well equipped kitchen. Nice to be able to use food in the pantry, replacing or paying with a honesty box. Sean very helpful and welcoming, checking we were comfortable throughout our stay by phone, text & email; a friendly, flexible helpful approach all the way through from booking, during our stay, and on departure. A bottle of wine and a box of chocolates a nice welcome on arrival. It's rare for us to return to a holiday home, but we hope to return here.

    Julie2016-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Bigert Mire was a perfect place for us - very isolated and so totally peaceful! The kitchen was really well stocked (enough pans etc) so cooking after long days of climbing was simple. We had gorgeous weather so were out alot but if it had been raining one day I would've been very happy to stay in by the fire :) The cottage was clean and tidy when we arrived and the handbook explained everything very clearly . Thanks for a lovely stay, we'll hopefully be back!

  • We had a wonderful relaxing stay at Bigert Mire Cottage. A lovely peaceful escape from the world catching up with great friends which is just what we needed! Lots of wonderful walks and the Blacksmiths Arms, recommended by Sean, provided an excellent birthday meal. We would definitely come back and imagine is great in the summer months and also a great place for families. The paddock for the dog and garden are fab. Many Thanks

    Hayley2016-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely cottage and as Sean says in his description, it is very secluded - which was exactly what we wanted. It has everything that we needed - space to cook, space to eat together and space to chill. The beds and bedrooms are very comfortable, and the newly refurbished shower room is welcome after a long day on the bike or walking the fells. The view from the bedroom window is beautiful in the mornings. The instructions provided in the welcome pack were excellent, and little extras like the 'emergency provisions' in the pantry and the welcoming bottle of wine and chocolates were an added bonus - loved the honesty penguin. We had a really lovely break, and hopefully we will be able to visit Bigert Mire again sometime.

  • The cottage was in a beautiful location very rural with amazing scenery. It was clean comfortable and well equipped. The neighbours were friendly and welcoming. A perfect get away from it all place. We hope we can visit again.

    julie2016-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Having visited Bigert Mire before, we already had an idea of what our stay would be like. This time we were visiting in early spring rather than summer, therefore we were treated to snow capped hills, and a roaring open fire which we didn't experience the last time. The views are phenomenal (including the clearest night sky ever) and the cottage is cosy and full of charm. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs to get away from urban life!

    James2017-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • I don't think I can say anything that hasn't been written already. The location is wonderful, remote and quiet, but not too far from places like Coniston, you can get to lovely towns and walks quite easily. The cottage is perfectly sited for lots of hiking in the stunning countryside. The cottage was good for our party of four, lots of room, was cosy (and my bed was firm which I like). Sean kept in touch about a problem with the multi-fuel stove in the living room, sending me updates as he wasn't sure if it would be fixed in time for our stay. It was and it worked perfectly, I know he worked very hard to get it replaced before our stay so we are very appreciative of that. This is my first AirBnB booking and I am very pleased with my experience.

  • We had a truly wonderful stay at Penny's, and our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer! Penny is a warm and welcoming host and her home is a wonderfully comfortable farmhouse. The kids had a great time running around outside which they really needed after a long drive in the car. Penny booked us into the local pub for dinner (the Black Cock Inn) which was one of the best meals we had during our 2 week tour of the UK. I just cannot describe how warm and welcoming Penny is. This was without doubt one of the best AirBnB experiences I have ever had and will definitely return to Penny's place again.

  • Super friendly service, comfortable accommodation with guest own bathrooms, lounge and kitchen you don't feel like you're in a house at all. Penny was very friendly and accommodating giving us some hints and tips on the local area and places to explore. Oh and the large free standing bath after a day in the lakes gets extra brownie points from me!

  • Wonderful home in a beautiful part of the world. Host is incredibly welcoming and more than willing to make things perfect, including suggesting places to eat and supplying extras for breakfast... Really cannot recommend this host and house highly enough...

  • We enjoyed a lot this our second visit to Penny's house. The house is beautiful and comfortable and the area is wonderful in autumn, with a lot of places to see at a reasonable distance from the house. Penny is a lovely host, our children are asking when are we returning back to see her again. Her neighbours and friends are also very friendly, even they brought a pony to the farm while we were there for our kids to see it every day. Totally recommendable.

  • What an amazing stay! It felt like we were staying with old friends rather than being paying guests. Penny is an amazing person as well as a very kind and extremely generous hostess. She reminded me of a female Jeeves, very discreet and yet always on hand with help and advice when ask. I also noted that Penny went the extra mile on more than one occasion to help us have a more enjoyable stay. The farmhouse is a beautiful old building with all the mod-cons tastefully incorporated. Rooms that are open to guests are signed that as Penny mentions, is much more friendly than 'private' signs in no go areas (not that there were many). Breakfast was plentiful as well as delicious, and Penny's homemade marmalade put Tiptree to shame. Tea, coffee, bottled water, biscuits, and fruit were available through out the day; and Penny gave us cakes and wine on more than one occasion. Thanks to a WIFI extender there is internet through out the house; 'Sky' & a DVD player for those who enjoy that type of thing, as well as radio. Penny also has an extensive collection of opera, jazz, and classical music on offer (unfortunately the friend I was with doesn't appreciate good music, and as I hadn't thought to bring headphones I didn't have an opportunity to indulge myself). Mobile phone reception is a bit hit and miss here as in most of Cumbria but Penny let us use her landline. A shower, large bath, and wetroom were all made available to us as well as soaps; shower gels; tooth brushes; a shaving kit; even bathrobes and slippers: penny has thought of everything. There are plenty of walks nearby or one can easily drive to the lakes; the sea; or the many tourist attractions that the Lake District has to offer from Penny's house and she has plenty of maps, guide books, and leaflets to help one plan the day. To sum up if it wasn't for our jobs, we would have been happy to have moved in permanently :)

  • This was a fantastic stay. The house is incredible, it is very big, with lots of space, including a full equipped kitchen. It was very comfy not mentioning how nice the area was, just next to the house there is a nice river crossed by a nice walk to the "Stone Circle". Penny is lovely, she offered us tea and a refreshment for the kids just when we arrived. Breakfast was delicious and enormous. 10 out of 10 completely!

Close to the market towns of Ulverston and Broughton in Furness, Ashlack Hall is a 17th Century Manor House surrounded by farmland, mountains and beautiful views of the Duddon Estuary. You can walk straight from the door through the fields and up onto the Fells. Coniston is a 20 minute drive and Windermere with all it's attractions just 25 minutes. There are many good local pubs within a 5 mile radius.
Ashlack Hall is Grade 2 listed and was restored in 1990 by the current owners. The house is full of character and charm and extremely comfortable. The Panelled Room comes with an ensuite bathroom and there is a third single bed available ( ideal for a small family with one child ). Prices include overnight stay and breakfast is provided.
Come and stay ! Enjoy wholesome food and Yoga everyday, go on beautiful scenic walks around the mountains or just simply explore the lakes around :)
  • I really enjoyed my stay. The room was very comfortable and the property has real character with lots of family history - Tom, Janine and Mark were fantastic hosts. Would recommend.

  • A gorgeous house with history and friendly hosts who went the extra mile for our daughter. Very clean and comfortable. The house is in beautiful countryside which was great for our 3 yr old to run around in safety whilst we sat in the garden in the evening to relax. Janine and Tom were fantastic with our little one and we will definitely return if we are back in the area. Thank you.

  • Gorgeous and a bit grand, the house and grounds are just gorgeous and drip history. Janine is a master Yoga teacher and her classes a superb treat to start the day with. The whole family are super warm, friendly, welcoming, helpful and easy going, and the many interesting chats made it hard to leave the house and set off exploring the area. Will simply have to go back...

Large beautifully appointed detached house with spectacular views of the Duddon Estuary and the Lake District fells. Within walking distance of all local amenities and easy reach of the world famous mountains and lakes. Would suit families or groups
Dog Bank is situated in a small hamlet within walking distance of Broughton which has shops, cafes, three excellent pubs, & a restaurant. The house is very spacious with breath-taking views of the Duddon Estuary and surrounding mountains. The large front garden is on three levels with access to the sands and there are numerous seating areas around the house to enjoy the sun in the morning or the sunsets at night . The bedrooms are large and spacious (one could take an extra single bed and sleep 3 people )two of which are on suite with showers and there is a bathroom with bath and shower. Wooden floors throughout downstairs and an open fire and a wood burning stove for chillier evenings.
Windermere and Coniston Water are about a 30 mins drive. Broughton -in Furness is 5 minutes away by car - has local shops Ulverston is a lovely market town and is 8 miles away - market days on Thursdays and Saturday. Barrow-in-Furness is about a 20 minute drive and has the larger supermarkets.
  • We had a very pleasant holiday and can attest that the house is very welcoming and well furnished. At the southern end of the Lakes, it is within good reach of all the major attractions. Comfortable for a family visit for sure.

    Simon2015-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • The location of the house is perfect for families wanting to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Lake District but also being able to access all the amazing activities that the area has to offer - mountain biking in Grizedale Forest, gorge walking, abseiling down a slate mine, sailing, fell walking, etc etc! Access to the house is over a railway line so you soon become 'best friends' with the operators who man the gates, sheep pass by the front door and the set up at the local pub adds to the quirkiness! The next village on is Broughton which is an easy cycle ride away and it has a couple of cafes and pubs as well as shops for daily provisions. So, even without booking up any specific activities we would have been happy just staying around the house (it is very comfortable and spacious) and doing local cycle rides, walks and even train rides from the house. We had good email contact with Andy the host prior to our stay and were met on arrival by Gill who lives locally and who gave us plenty of information about the area - the options were too much for us to cover in one week so we will definitely go back! Broadgate is a traditional Georgian house, built in 1819 with stunning views across the Duddon Estuary. The fine proportions and subtle beauty of the house and gardens compliment the idyllic rural setting.
  • Diana's home is absolutely beautiful and she has to be the loveliest host I have ever met. She is so kind and helpful and cooked me an incredible three course dinner on arrival that I hadn't booked. I'd had an awfully stressful afternoon and Diana made me feel so much better. Bed turned down, electric blanket on, the roll top bath, the decor, the cosy lounge with log burner, the gardens, the breakfast, traditional luxury. everything simply perfect. Thank you so much Di x

  • I stayed over with Diana for 4 nights and everyday was wonderful. She isn't very punctual in serving breakfast and the every time I can eat back the house and room was in emmaculate condition. Her house is full of beautiful Artifacts and antique furtniture which adds so much to the living and I had a massively double room to myself with a beautiful view . I recommend thsi accommodation whether leisure or business trip . 10 on 10 for diana as a host .

  • Diana's place is truly amazing. The setting is incredible, with views across to the coast. Diana is an exceptional host, making us feel like part of the family before we'd even arrived (she phoned to ask if we happened to be attending the same wedding as another guest couple and if we wanted to share a taxi!). As it turned out, we were attending the same wedding but hadn't met before, but we had such a good time on our short stay that we have made some new friends in the process! The house is truly astonishing, it feels like you have got a rare chance to stay in a perfectly preserved stately home where someone has let you past the red ropes and you can actually sleep in the beds and sit in the chairs. So many period features and fascinating things to look at all wrapped up in a stunning building, beautiful gardens and home to a truly inspirational Lady. Thank-you Diana, if we ever get an excuse to visit the area again we will be in touch straight away!

  • This is a unique accommodation in the lake district. The house is beautifully situated and the rooms feel very historic. It almost feels like you're in a museum because of all the nice objects in the rooms and hallways. Diana makes you feel like home and took very good care of us and informed us about good places to eat. We highly recommend!

  • Great host. She was very accommodative and helpful with some last minute changes. We reached at a very odd time past 11 pm and she came to the main road to show us the way. She was very meticulous in arranging breakfast in the morning and took care of each individual preferences in the group which is not easy. It's amazing how she manages all by herself. This place is very special and should be in a league of its own for the quality of experience it offers which cannot be conveyed in words

  • We really enjoy the stay in Diana's country house. It's unbelievable she manages so well with the gardens and the whole house. We're impressed by the authentic feeling of the aged house also. Diana gets everything ready even to precisely forecast the weather :) We love the breakfast in the cosy sunny morning surrounded brilliant garden view. Hope to come back again.

  • Perfect location for a home base to explore the Lake District and Peninsula. Sturdy Bank Barn is a modern comfortable well equipped home. Views from the home are spectacular on their own. Our hosts greeted us with smiles hugs and scones the perfect start to our stay. Great food options were shared pubs with wonderful food and even a special bistro night. Highly recommend Sturdy Bank Barn and know we will return.

  • We had a truly wonderful time at the Barn, which is so well done, great design, everything you could need to be comfortable and spotlessly clean. The views were amazing, location perfect and we lucked out with fantastic weather. We had a family reunion, 6 of us stayed at the barn, the rest either camped or did a b & b, it was the perfect location and Lindsey and John were really great, helpful and put up with all 13 of us at some meal times. If you have never been to the lake district, go!! The view is to the estuary and you are surrounded by sheep and rolling hills, it just doesn't get better than this and was a total bargain to boot. Best of on airbnb so far, we have rented 3 places on this trip.
