“Széchenyi Thermal Bath is one of the largest spa complexes in Europe. Its outdoor pool with the steam rising from its surface on winter nights and the complacent elderly men playing chess in the water is a world famous symbol of Budapest. The bath in Városliget was built in neo-Baroque style at the beginning of the 20th century. The Széchenyi is the most popular bath among locals thanks it its size and wide range of services. Numerous indoor and outdoor pools, a thermal and a wellness department (steam room, sauna etc.), medical care, therapies. fitness and miscellaneous services guarantee the perfect visit. The open-air pool is open in the winter as well!”

“Good fun if you use the bikes and ride along Danube till Margaret Island. Or you can take the bus 15. Bus stop is 2 min. walk Margaret Island (Margitsziget), barely 2.4 kilometers long and 503 meters wide is Budapest's main recreation and recuperative center for most locals. Thermal spring-fed medicinal baths, carefully tended gardens and paths, as well as the ruins of many historic buildings all serve to attract many daily visitors. A highlight of any visit is the Palatinus Baths, a huge spa complex that covers more than 17 acres and includes a bath with artificial waves, together with various medicinal, swimming, and children's pools capable of accommodating up to 20,000 bathers at a time. ”

“Once You are in Budapest You have to go to the Citadell, the top of the Gellért 'Mountain' (it is rather a hill, but we call it mountain. On the top there is our Statue of the Liberty , a socialist monument overlooking the city. On the way down, visit Czakó Kert, a bistro with a nice garden and super desserts and daily menu. ”

Hot Spring
“Budapest has at least fifteen large thermal spas, open to the public and evocatively designed in various period styles. Two Turkish baths that survive are particularly enchanting: one of my favorite the Rudas Medicinal Baths. I recommend the Night Bathing every Friday and Saturday night between 22:00 till 4:00. This is an unforgettable experiance, if you try the hot water pools in the Turkish part or the pool on top of the bath, where is an amazing view of the city.”

“The Shoes on the Danube Bank is a memorial in Budapest, Hungary. Conceived by film director Can Togay, he created it on the east bank of the Danube River with sculptor Gyula Pauer [hu] to honour the Jews who were killed by fascist Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest during World War II. They were ordered to take off their shoes, and were shot at the edge of the water so that their bodies fell into the river and were carried away. It represents their shoes left behind on the bank.”

“It’s classic but in another sense than the Great Market Hall. It’s open-air and the goods are spread out in front of your eyes. It’s run-down in a romantic way and could very much be the smallest in the capital. Small as in cute. The original spirit of markets, that of the contact between buyer and merchant, the real, uncorrupted farmer comes into being. ”

“Palatinus on the Margaret Island is the oldest open-air beach in Budapest, always attracting a jolly crowd of people who would like to plunge into a pool in the heart of the city. Palatinus is found about halfway through the island on the left-hand side. Once inside, we can chill in any of the many pools, enjoy twisting slides or even practice surfing in the wave pool. After a thorough renovation, Palatinus is now open all-year-round.”

“Pest-side pedestrian zone between Chain Bridge and Elizabeth Bridge is called Danube Promenade (Duna-korzó). Popular among locals and tourists, fringed with 5-star hotels (InterContinental, Marriott, Sofitel), restaurants, cafés, bars and casinos. Best panorama of Buda with clear and gorgeous view of the Buda Castle, Citadel, Gellért Hill and bridges of Budapest. It is a great spot for enjoying the annual fireworks of 20 August. The Promenade is lined with arts masterpieces, like the "Kiskirálylány" (Princess) sitting on the railing, the building of the Vigadó and the statue of the statesman István Széchenyi by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.”
