“Lined with upscale casino hotels, the neon-soaked Strip is quintessential Las Vegas. As well as gambling floors, the vast hotel complexes house a variety of shops, restaurants (ranging from mainstream to high-end), and performance venues for music, comedy and circus-style acts. Attractions like the soaring, choreographed Fountains of Bellagio and the High Roller observation wheel draw crowds.”

“73.6 miles from my home going north-east (key road is the I-15), or 82.8 miles going the more beautiful southern route (key road is the 167). Go early: The park closes at 7:00 pm. Note that the northern route is mostly freeway while the southern route is largely state park, which provides more incredible views along the way to the actual Valley of Fire. A park pass is required. The southern route also take you close to the Hoover Dam, so you can do both in one day if you start early. About the park (from Wikipedia): Valley of Fire State Park is a public recreation and nature preservation area covering nearly 46,000 acres (19,000 ha) located 16 miles (26 km) south of Overton, Nevada. The state park derives its name from red sandstone formations, the Aztec Sandstone, which formed from shifting sand dunes 150 million years ago. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park's attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays. It is Nevada's oldest state park, as commemorated with Nevada Historical Marker #150. It was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1968.”
