“Experience the Mussel Inn: A Golden Bay institution and featured in international guide books. A laid-back “pub’’ with a real local flavour, it brews it own selection of terrific beers, stocks wines and serves a selection of hearty meals. You can’t book and have to take your chances on finding a table, but relax over a drink and one usually becomes available. Also has a good selection of live music, especially during the summer”

“Farewell Spit: take a trip out to the visitors’ centre at Puponga, park the car, and walk across the farm park to the base of the spit; seals are often to be found at Fossil Point to the left or walk right along the beach and double back along four-wheel drive tracks to the farm park. Organised trips along the spit are available from Collingwood”

“Low-tide beach walk to Collingwood: park at Milnethorpe, on the highway en route to Collingwood, and walk through bush tracks to the beach, then stroll along to Collingwood. It’s about an hour’s walk and you can reward yourself with excellent coffee/breakfast/lunch/pizza at the relaxing Courthouse Café when you get there”
