The Garden Flat is in a wonderfully peaceful location overlooking Ullswater with panoramic views of timeless yet ever-changing fells, lake and sky. Experience it all from the bay window seat, sofa or even the bed, from the bench outside or on the lawns of Wreay Mansions. Step out of our front door in to an unforgettable landscape. We're on the Ullswater Way walking route and Pooley Bridge is close by. Enjoy a pint brewed at the Brackenrigg Inn. Fine dine or wild swim at Another Place.
This superbly-situated flat has already enjoyed some big changes – the start of a transformation to make it the perfect place to enjoy Ullswater. There is an open plan kitchen/dining area/lounge with new John Lewis oven, hob and dishwasher, new pans by Green Pan and a striking teal sofa by Gallery Hudson. In the bedroom we have a new Ercol Teramo double bed, and you can enjoy luxurious linen from Tielle Love Luxury – we discovered it at the fabulous Pig hotels chain. There's a new Sony Bravia TV with around 80 channels and radio stations available and if you have a Netflix account you can connect up. And you can listen to your own music using our Minirig speaker. The bathroom has underfloor heating, a bath and a shower. There is a lobby so you don't need to bring muddy boots or wet gear in to the flat. And a private parking bay is included. The flat has an impressive sandstone portico and a huge bay window where the views of Ullswater and the fells – including Helvellyn – are unforgettable.
Wreay Mansions is a cluster of apartments converted from a historic 19th century hunting lodge with elevated views of Ullswater – Wainwright's "loveliest of lakes" and the inspiration for Wordsworth's poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. The new Ullswater Way walking route is at the end of the drive. Just down the hill is the Brackenrigg Inn with more great views, food including Sunday lunch, its own microbrewery and – in winter – a big, roaring fire. Bustling Pooley Bridge – with its pubs, shops and tea rooms by the river – is less than two miles away. There is a new temporary footbridge and free car park to use until the new stainless steel crossing opens this spring to replace the 300-year-old one swept away by floods in 2015. From the flat you can easily reach attractions like Aira Force waterfall, owned by the National Trust, and the Ullswater Steamers. You can ride, cycle, fish, sail, paddleboard or even wild swim nearby at Another Place hotel, which has fine dining and great bar food. The Garden Flat is great base from which to explore the rest of the Lake District including Keswick, Windermere, Buttermere and Grasmere – all around a scenic 40 minute drive away. Other great places to eat include 1863 Bistro in Pooley Bridge or the famous Sharrow Bay hotel on the opposite shore. Historic houses Dalemain (5mins by car) and Lowther Castle (20mins) are close too. Penrith, the nearest town, has excellent shopping facilities and a great Tourist Information Centre. As well as a Sainsbury's and Morrisons, there are brilliant regional stores like Booths and Cranstons Cumbrian Foodhall. Before arriving you could also stock up at the renowned Tebay Services near Shap on the M6, a family-owned site with its own farm and butcher. The company also owns the petrol station and store at Rheged arts centre you'll pass as you head from Penrith to Watermillock. Fuel is competitive and there's great local food and drink on sale.

Merci encore, Will et Nicky

    William2019-05-19T00:00:00Z

You have sole use of a modern cosy bedroom, ensuite WC/shower room and a private breakfast room (breakfast provided).
We provide all the equipment you will need in the kitchen including table and chairs, fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, egg cooker and a small portable oven together with all the all crockery and cutlery you will need for a comfortable stay. We can offer you free Wi-Fi and you have TV in your room. In those warm summer months why not enjoy a glass of wine on our secluded raised decking in the rear garden or sit in the front and watch the world go by. You can borrow our barbecue or we can supply logs for the chimenea for when the weather turns chilly. We have secure storage for bicycles and can easily dry your wet clothes and boots for the next day’s walk. Washing and drying facilities are available if you really need to dry out. You can even have a soak in our large bath if you need one. We offer a great space to sort yourself out for the next day’s adventure. We are dog friendly and our own dog will be sure give you a friendly welcome and will also welcome any well-behaved fellow canines. We can even provide a spare dog bowl or blanket if you have forgotten yours. If you are travelling in a group of four, we do have another guest bedroom (double sofa bed) you could hire for a small extra charge. Provisions for light snacks and packed lunches for your next day’s walking can be provided for a small charge. We are just a short walk away from 3 great local pubs and the award winning Shap Chippy so for larger meals you can either eat in or grab a take away back to the house if you prefer a quiet night in. The local Coop or newsagent is handy for stocking up on those holiday supplies.
Only a short drive from the lovely market towns of Penrith and Kendal, the sights of Ullswater, Haweswater, Windermere, Ambleside, Kirkby Stephen and Keswick are all within easy reach by car. Carlisle and Hadrian’s Wall are just a little further afield. There is easy access to the Eden Valley and the Howgills and the newly designated Westmorland Dales National Park. The whole area is home to wonderful walking, cycling and horse riding with lovely market towns and a collection of delightful villages, hills and sights to explore. There are lovely walks and cycle routes from the doorstep. With a lively calendar of farmers’ markets, county shows and seasonal events, the area has something to offer all year round. Amenities in the village include 3 lovely pubs, the Kings Arms, the Greyhound and the Crown (with its new tea room), all serving great home cooked food (with the Kings arms also doing takeaways). The award winning Shap Chippy is a Shap institution you won’t want to miss (with eat in or takeaway). We have the Old Courthouse Exhibition centre (exhibitions of local artists, live music and talks) and in the summer months the UK’s highest open-air heated swimming pool (May – September).

It’s in the quiet NE corner of the Lake District, half way between Ullswater (5miles) and Haweswater (6miles), within easy reach of the M6 (15mins) and an ideal base for exploring the rest of the Lake District. We provide everything you could need to make it a well equipped home from home, combining both antique and contemporary furniture and art in a homely Lakeland country style. You'll love the bedrooms upstairs: stylish master bedroom with 5ft 4-poster bed and ensuite bathroom with over-bath shower, basin and toilet; a pretty double bedroom with washbasin and beautiful views across the garden and Lowther Valley; the third bedroom has bunk beds and a skylight. Enjoy our sumptuous Egyptian cotton bedding and a set of fluffy towels per person. Downstairs is a second bathroom with large walk-in shower, toilet and basin. The cosy beamed living room has a log burner laid ready to light, comfy sofas and dining area. There's an initial supply of logs, with more available on request at £5 a basket. The newly fitted kitchen has a dishwasher, washer-dryer, fridge-freezer, cooker and microwave. Full central heating and on-demand hot water. There are many beautiful walks straight from the house: over the fell above our village to see spectacular views of Ullswater and the mountains beyond; along the river below the house to get to picture postcard Askham (two pubs, cafe and village shop) or Lowther Castle (where there's an amazing adventure playground and garden). Guests with mobility issues, do please note that although there is a shower room and toilet downstairs, all the bedrooms are upstairs. There are also 2 small steps up to the front door.
Helton village is a quiet and picturesque conservation area half way between Ullswater (5m) and Haweswater (6m) and is an ideal base for exploring the rest of the Lake District. A short walk onto the fell above the village, enjoy panoramic views over Ullswater (3m walk to Pooley Bridge) and the mountains beyond, it's fun to explore the many prehistoric standing stones and the Cockpit stone circle, left by Helton's Stone Age settlers. There are many footpaths and cycle routes right from the door, cycle hire available a couple of miles away at Lowther Castle. If you have children to entertain, Lowther Castle is less than an hour's walk along the river from the house and their amazing Lost Castle adventure playground and cafe in the woods behind are always a hit. You can enjoy the return walk through the pretty village of Askham via the Punchbowl Inn, Askham Hall Garden Cafe or the Queen's Head. There's also a small traditional village store in Askham stocking a good range of food and drink. In summer, there's a well kept heated outdoor swimming pool in Askham, open weekends and weekday afternoons through the school holidays. There are a wide variety of activities and great village pubs either within walking distance or close by. The award winning Askham Hall restaurant, recently awarded a Michelin Star, is only 1.5 miles away! The nearest supermarkets and shops are in Penrith, 15mins drive. For keen walkers, Ullswater is only 3 miles away on foot, over the fell above our village, where you can join the Ullswater Way and combine a walk with a ride on one of the Ullswater Steamers. Or you can continue walking along the old 'Roman road' footpath across the fell towards Haweswater, giving access to the 'High Street' range of mountains.

********************************************************************* * FOR ALL NEW BOOKINGS, FIREWOOD ETC IS INCLUDED! * ********************************************************************* Shap Fell Bothy is an iconic and unique building located on Shap Fell, Cumbria, by the A6 road at 1390 ft above sea level. 10 minutes from Junction 39 of the M6 motorway, and 20 minutes from Kendal. The Bothy has been converted to a camping barn from an old telephone repeater station. It is surrounded by moorland and there are no houses or neighbours for miles around. The nearest village with shops is Shap, about 7 miles away. Situated on the main route from John O' Groats to Land's End, the Bothy is suitable for long distance walkers and cyclists, also mountain bikers, ramblers, bird watchers, astronomers, weekend retreats, music practice, or simply for a unique overnight stay. The back gate opens onto public access land, and there are public footpaths and bridleways across the moorland within 100 yards. The Bothy has a roof-window and is an ideal place for star-gazing, as there is an exceptionally low and wide horizon, and low light pollution. Please note: The landscape is bare high moorland, with no trees nearby, and there are power lines a few hundred yards away. The road can be busy in the mornings, but it quietens off by about 9.00 am, and it is exceptionally quiet at night. The property is completely off-grid ie it is not connected to the electricity grid and has no running water. Lighting and low-usage power (eg for phone/laptop-charging) is supplied by wind and solar. Drinking water and water for washing etc are provided (water can be heated on the cooker or stove). There is a washroom in the building, and toilet facilities consist of a Portaloo chemical toilet cubicle outside. Facilities are basic - best described as indoor camping. The accommodation downstairs consists of a main living room with wood-burning stove, tables and chairs; a kitchenette with caravan-type gas cooker (two rings and a grill); a washroom with small sink; and a hallway with coat hooks and space for boots. Upstairs is a lovely sleeping/lounging area, fully carpeted, with roof windows, ambient lighting and low comfortable seating. Heating is provided by a gas heater. Sleeping arrangements: The Bothy accommodates up to 8 people. In the upstairs there are 4 futon mattresses for the first 4 people to sleep on; additional guests can make use of the upstairs seating cushions or bring their own lilos, carrymats etc. Bedding for up to 4 people is available for hire or you can bring your own. Car parking: Ample car parking is provided 100 yards away in large lay-bys. There is a loading/unloading area off the road in front of the Bothy. Pricing: * The basic price is for up to 4 people. Extra guests charged at £10 per person per night * Cleaning charge is £5 per stay, payable at time of booking * No minimum length of stay (apart from at Xmas and New Year) The following are provided for you and included in your booking charge: * Electric lighting and mains sockets for low-level use eg phone/laptop charging * Gas cooker – 2 rings and a grill (gas supplied) * 10L drinking water per day, and large canisters of water for washing, washing-up etc. (Up to three days supply of water is provided) * Crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment including kettle * Tea towel and hand towel * Toilet paper * Futon mattresses for 4 people (but up to 8 people are welcome) FUEL FOR WOODBURNER & USE OF GAS FIRE, AND BEDDING HIRE Prices were changed on 13 February 2019 to allow for a new booking charge inclusive of fuel. Shap Fell Bothy is located just inside the Lake District National Park, on Birkbeck Common, much of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of species diversity and rare upland habitat. The Common is home to one of the few remaining feral herds of Fell Ponies. The only near neighbours are the birds and the sheep. Shap village is 10 minutes away by car. There are shops, the famous Shap Chippy, heated outdoor swimming pool, pubs and bars. The Bothy is located on the main route from John O' Groats to Land's End, and in summer there are often walkers, runners, cyclists, motorbikers, vintage cars and even a unicycle making this epic journey. The Bothy is mentioned briefly in Wainwright's 'Guide to the Eastern Fells' which is essential reading for walkers. There is a remote weather station about 300 yards south of the Bothy, which can be viewed online. The station gives readings for rainfall, wind speed, visibility, humidity and temperature, and has a webcam which takes a picture every 20 minutes. The station can be viewed on the Cumbria County Council website - just search online for 'Shap A6 weather station'.

All our dwellings are in a young woodland planted by Andris husband, Tom, twenty five years ago. Fieldhead Farm is a small holding with Canoe building workshops and Yurt building workshop, horses, some sheep, geese, chickens, dogs and cats. There are polytunnels where we grow vegetables and plenty of fruit trees and shrubs to harvest in autumn. We try to live as environmentally friendly and sustainably as possible with solar panels and a reed bed system.
A beautifully decorated furnished yurt set in a young mixed woodland. Relax in a circular space with the sound of the trees and birds and take time out from the world, ideally suited to couples.
There are some lovely low level walks around the pretty local villages. Local pubs and cafes provide good food, reasonably priced and good atmosphere. Venturing further, the far eastern Lake District fells are within 20min drive where you can enjoy all the Lake District has to offer without the crowds. The honey pot of Pooley Bridge and Ullswater are a short drive for a fun day out. The Pennines and Yorkshire Dales National Park is only a short drive in the opposite direction. The Eden valley north of Great Strickland is a hidden gem of pretty villages, rivers and stones circles to explore. It is a beautiful area filled with vistas and friendly people.

Over the Way is ideal for either a relaxing or romantic stay and a place from which to explore the beautiful surroundings with many walks right from the doorstep. The accommodation is within walking distance of two pubs. Troutbeck is one of the most photographed villages in The Lakes for its wonderful landscapes and character properties. Over the Way will make a great base for touring the whole of the National Park and a great stopover on the way up to Scotland perhaps.
There is a village shop about half a mile away with a small cafe. There are many walks of varying lengths straight out the front door.

J'y retournerais volontiers. Merci de nous recevoir :)

A light and airy refurbished 1970's caravan with beautiful camping kitchen outside with all you need to make a brew and a easy meal, set in a young woodland just outside of the village of Great Strickland on the edge of the Lake Districts eastern fells.
You can lay in bed and hear the rustle of the trees leaves and the bird song. A true getting back to nature location with plenty to do in the immediate area and the lakes just a short drive away. The caravan is lovingly restored to create a modern unique sleeping area. We provide freshly ironed bedding and towels. There are candles and solar lights. Each washing up area has everything you need , scourers, liquid ( we try to be as plastic free as possible, re filling containers rather than buying new each time).plus dishclothes and tea towels.
A 15 minute walk down a country lane will take you into Great Strickland village where there is a pub that serves food. In the neighbouring village of Morland is a lovely cafe that serves really tasty food during the day and on Friday nights, wonderful pizzas. There is a small shop in Morland, providing mostly local produce. In the other direction to melkinthorpe, there is a lovely garden centre and cafe for a lovely lunch. Lowther castle and gardens is an interesting afternoon out and there are some lovely walks in and around the village of Askham, finished off with a drink in one of the pubs. Askham also has a village shop open 7-7. Ullswater is only a short drive away and where the walks are fantastic and you can hire boats to play on the lake. Shap has a local coop open 7am-10pm and an award winning fish and chip shop.

We would like to welcome you to come and stay in our cosy Cumbrian working Farmhouse. The farm was built in the 16th century, very traditional with white washed walls and nestled in the Cumbrian fells above Lake Ullswater. The journey to us takes you along the edge of Lake Ullswater, passing Sharrow Bay and Howtown Hotel. Up the Hause and into our hidden gem of a valley “ Martindale”. Once you have driven over Christy Bridge you have arrived at Winter Crag Farm. We are just a stones throw away from the ancient Church of St Martin which has the famous old Yew tree. It is located in the beautiful valley of Marindale which is home to the oldest herd of Red deer in the UK. It is also home to a variety of other wildlife such as Herons, Foxes and the odd fell walker. We are very close to Pooley Bridge which has several places to eat and enjoy the local ale. This is also the main stop for Ullswater Steamers where you can take a trip around the Lake. The old market town of Penrith is just a 20 min drive and you can find everything you may need there. We are also close to many tourist attractions such as Lowther Castle / Glenridding / Dalemain House / Reghed Centre/ Keswick and the scenic route to Ambleside and Windermere.
