  • Neil was a fantastic host throughout our stay, doing everything he could to make sure we had a relaxing and enjoyable break. The lodge was exactly as described, but much better than we expected. It was all modern decor and immaculate (everything appeared brand new), with the most stunning views of the bay. We had our own private pool and hot tub, and it's all nicely secluded so not windy at all. It also has the best bathroom we've ever seen! Ideal spot with easy access to lots of nearby beaches. Highly recommended and we'll definitely be staying again. It made our first family holiday with a newborn very special

  • Lovely place lots around spectacular views and beautiful sunsets. Would recommend to anyone who wants a quiet time away, or somewhere to go out and explore but come back to a relaxing environment. Neil was fantastic and friendly couldn't offer anything more.

  • Neil's place is absolutely gorgeous. The views are stunning. The hot tub was lovely and the beach is a 5 minute drive away. Unfortunately I got ill on the trip, but it was still a relaxing place to recharge... We ordered in a Chinese, watched DVDs with a few candles. The place is very very clean. The bathroom is amazing. The cooking facilities are perfect ... My boyfriend cooked lovely fajitas on our first night. There is also a local morrisons a 7 minute walk away. Neil also surprised us with a bottle of prosecco on our stay... Which was very kind. Overall an amazing place and I would love to visit again with more friends and Neil as more bedrooms overlooking the swimming pool. Thanks Neil

  • Beautiful property, amazing night views. I'm sure there's not many places around with a private swimming pool, hot tub and allow dogs too! It was perfect! Thanks Neil

  • Wonderful place for a long weekend break. Arrived to a welcome bottle of bubbly and a box of chocolates. Neil was a fabulous host and we wanted for nothing other that a little more sunshine. Hot tub was a hit with the whole family as was the pool and the lodge is so well appointed and we were all very comfortable including our two dogs. Neil gave us some great local food recommendations. Communication was excellent and all in all a great time was had by all. Can't wait for a return visit.

    Honey2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed our short break, Neil was extremely accommodating and allowed us to book at very short notice, also provided a fabulous hamper of goodies. Excellent communication from start to finish. Lodge is stunning and for us the hot tub was a highlight! Local pub in Appledore was dog friendly and lodge is well located to explore surrounding areas. Thanks for a lovely stay!

    Esther2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Neil's lodge! It was just as good as the pictures suggested. We especially loved using the BBQ and enjoying the hot tub with the lovely view! Neil was super helpful and made sure we had everything we needed and left us chocolates and prosecco which was such a nice touch! The lodge was spotlessly clean and has everything you need including all kitchen amenities and even underfloor heating which was amazing! Would highly recommend it. Places like Clovelly and Tintagel Castle are not too far away by car and well worth a visit. Neil also recommended us local places to eat which didn't disappoint.

    Rachel2017-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • After a hectic Christmas I decided to take my girlfriend away for a weekend break. As a first time airbnb user i was sceptical but I am now a convert. If you are planning a trip to Devon then this place is a must. The place is immaculate and everything has been thought of. Lovely touches including breakfast bits a bottle of fizz and some chocolates. Neil the owner was brilliant and couldn't do enough to make sure we had a good time. We took out two King Charles spaniels and the field behind is great for toilet trips and there are walks to the beach across the road. All in all a fantastic escape and we will be returning. Thanks Neil.

  • This was a fantastic stay in an absolutely beautiful location. The room was unbelievable and really good value for money. The house is extremely modern, clean, very high standard with really good facilities. Room has awesome views, it is light and clean. It is really quiet at night and comfortable. The house is a 10 min walk up a moderate hill from the local village and a fantastic beach, it is exactly as described. Jackie is a really nice host and offers really good advice on the area and places to eat & drink and also gives you alot of privacy and space. There is also a really good information pack in the room. This room is extremely well priced and offers such a good location to visit most places in the area. It is by far the best air bnb in the area. We will definitely be staying again. Ringo the dog is really friendly.

    Dalia2016-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our room at Jackies was spotless, it had everything we needed ( mini fridge, kettle, drinks, courtesy toiletries) and the ensuite was great. The configuration of their house meant that in effect we had our own floor. Their position in Instow has wonderful views and was quiet and peaceful. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and although we only stayed one night, we were made to feel very welcome. We did not want breakfast as we made an early start, but it is available if requested.

    chris2016-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks Jackie and Graham. It was only 1 night but you guys were the perfect hosts. Even your family, including cat and dog were so friendly!!! The facilities are in pristine condition and are spotlessly clean. Instow is a hidden gem. We had a great meal and drink at a nearby seaside pub and had a lovely chat with some of the locals. Would highly recommend. Pity we couldn't have spent more time there.

  • We came to stay for the Easter weekend during our friends wedding and loved this place. It had everything we needed with very kind and thoughtful hosts. Karen and Tony even supplied us with fry-up ingredients post wedding! Appledore is quiet and quaint. We had a lovely weekend out of the city and would visit again

  • Ship ahoy is a wonderful apartment bang in the centre of appledore and beautifully and tastefully decorated and furnished. The hosts should be proud of it and it's a wonderful place to stay with everything you might need for comfort and convenience. Appledore is a magical place with some great places to eat, we tried the sea gate and had fish and chips sitting on the quay overlooking instow opposiite. Tide permitting take the ferry across and enjoy its beautiful setting, two places for the price of one. Locally there are amazing walks and for our our money one the finest beaches ever at Westwood ho. All within walking distance of a wonderful place and apartment. You will not go wrong if you chose ship ahoy for a short or long stay.

  • Lucinda welcomed us and settled us in and then left us to our own devices. The place was accurately depicted. And the local shops and pubs were a lovely little walk to the beach. A truly Beautiful setting for the perfect stay away.

Minnow is an old fisherman’s cottage dating back to 18th century and is located in a small quiet terrace close to the waterfront. The cottage provides the perfect escape featuring a wood burning stove for cosy winter evenings and a sunny courtyard for summer al fresco dining and has the benefits of internet access to keep intouch with the outside world.
With lovely views from both bedrooms across the estuary to the sea, and a short stroll to all the amenities of this quaint fishing village - shops, pubs and restaurants 100 yds.
Instow is on the opposite side of the estuary with its sandy beach, pubs and restaurants. Westward Ho!, 2 miles is famous for its wide sandy beach and surfing, plus lovely walks across the adjacent Burrows Country Park with its dunes, grazing sheep and horses. Bideford, 3 miles offers town amenities, shops, pubs, restaurants and boat trips to Lundy Island. Other attractions close by include The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, Dartington Crystal Factory, RHS Rosemoor Gardens, the Atlantic Village outlet shopping centre and the Tarka Cycle and footpath trail.
  • We spent 3 nights in Carmen's house and had a good time. It is close to the local amenities but also secluded, characterful and cosy. We especially enjoyed the enclosed garden perfect for fish and chips in the sun with a cider or glass of wine. Would highly recommend.

Quaint, beachy 3-bed terraced house on the sought after Irsha Street. Comfortable accommodation over 3 floors with a cracking log burner. Short stroll from Appledore amenities and a stones throw from the estuary and the famous Beaver Inn.
Hetty's Haven is a lovely escape from city life. At just a stones throw from the estuary and the South West Coastal Path, this space is a wonderful base for exploring the North Devon coast. Halfway down the famous Irsha Street in Appledore, the street opens up to spectacular views of the estuary with Hetty's Haven located on the left hand side across from the Beaver Inn. Enter through the blue door and the bright airy lounge welcomes you. With 2 comfortable sofas and a bucket chair, this is the perfect place to relax by the fire after a day exploring. While the cottage benefits from freeview TV or Wifi, the space is so relaxing (especially with a log fire burning) that you can finally get the time delve into your book (or one of the many we have!), catch up with friends or play a board game. Up 3 steps takes you to the kitchen and dining areas. Here you have access to all the kitchen ware you may need. Up another 3 steps takes you to the 3 piece washroom. Access to a lovely outdoor patio and dining area (up another flight of stairs) can be found at the rear of the property. On the first floor, there are 2 bedrooms. There is a bright room with a king size bed and hardwood floors at the front of the house with views of the estuary. Across the landing is a room with bunk beds plus an extra mattress which can be pulled out to accommodate another guest. At the top of the house (and up a steep set of stairs), is the 3rd double bedroom with vaulted ceiling, views to the estuary and a small ensuite toilet. A cot and high chair can be provided for our smaller guests.
Appledore is a beautiful historic fishing village located at the mouth of the Torridge River. The picturesque village has all the amenities that you should require during your stay, with a number of pubs, cafes and restaurants serving delicious meals, coffees and ales (but Bideford, Westward Ho! and Barnstaple are a short drive away should you require). The Hocking's Ice Cream van is also not to be missed! Irsha Street is a charming street with colourful terraced houses running the length. And with the estuary right on the doorstep, there is plenty to explore in the rock pools during low tide. The long, beautiful sandy beach of Westward Ho! is a lovely coastal walk from Appledore where you can swim, surf, kite surf or simply enjoy the views out to Lundy Island. For a fun day out, the ferry to Instow has regular runs from the Appledore quay during the summer months.

  • If you love Instow then this cottage is in the ideal location, just behind the dunes at the end of Marine Parade. No direct sea view, but 50m away from the best dog walking beach in England ! The house was as described and very comfortable for our group of 4 plus two dogs, and the secure back yard very useful for drying sandy dogs off ! This is an ideal base for a short break with the local pubs and restaurants so close.

Wonderful views from the sitting room and top bedroom. Please note that the house has quite steep stairs and the walk to the shops on the quay is down a hill. The cottage is therefore not suitable for those wanting disabled access.
The village is a wonderful place to explore the old lanes and quirky places. In the summer a ferry takes you across the estuary at high tide to the sandy beach. For walkers the coastal path is perfect for a stroll to the beach at Northampton Burrows or on to Westward Ho! Where the surfing is fun. Plenty of places to eat nearby, local shops, supermarket and cafes. The quay in Appledore is always fun to watch the boats and people messing about on the water!
  • Lovely stay in a well located and comfortable cottage. The view from the lounge and top bedroom is lovely and is much better than the pictures show.

  • The house is situated in a nice and little town. From livingroom and the big sleepingroom under the roof the view is very beautiful...water, little boats, white houses... We loved it to have breakfast with this marvellous sight. At night we didn't hear any noise, only seagulls. Our boys (11 and 14) was excited about the very good Wifi :-) In the house we have found all things we need. Parking in the small streets is not easy but we managed it! Thanks for a good and friendly conversation with Sarah!

  • My mother & I had a wonderful few days and enjoyed the comfort and fantastic views over the estuary especially. The beds were very comfortable and the cottage had all the amenities we needed. The flowers and extra resources like tea/ coffee/sugar & salt/pepper were really appreciated. It would be useful to have instructions regarding use of the kitchen equipment available - cooker & microwave. Not very accessible for disabled people due to the steep stairs and walk to the town centre is steep. A huge positive was the fantastic view overlooking the estuary from the lounge (& top bedroom windows ) The photos don't do this justice - it is really amazing, . Friendly neighbours helped with a car problem too.

  • What can I say? 4th stay at Jan's place. Feels like home from home now. Jan is accommodating as always! All the surrounding towns and villages are so lovely. Great part of the world!

  • Good sized two bedroom property very much as Jan described. We found the location a bit far out of the centre and a bit 'industrial' but there was private parking which is a big bonus in Appledore.

  • This is our 3rd visit to one of Jan's properties. We love this place in particular. It's in a good spot close to all the towns and not far from Westward Ho! There is off street parking which is really convenient. The house is nice and cosy. Heats up very quickly in the cold weather and the views are lovely. If you are a bird lover you can sit in the lounge and watch the birds outside. Jan is a really helpful and friendly host. We will be back again!

The village posts 3 Childrens play areas and a skate ramp. We also have the famous Hockings Ice Cream which is made within 100 metres of the house. • Wintor House is a stunning recently renovated Victorian home in the heart of Appledore with views over the river. We were amazed by the room sizes, it’s massive and split over 3 floors so our 2 families always had space of their own. The beds and furnishings are top class. The garden is lovely and a good off street drive which easily accommodated our 2 VW Campers, bikes and boards Vicky our host was brilliant, communicated constantly before and during to ensure no question was left unanswered and a lovely welcome pack on arrival. After several years of Airbnb across EU, this property easily stands out and I strongly recommend to others

Abernyte is an a great cottage for a holiday. The Victorian terrace is on a quiet cobbled terrace with beautiful estuary views across to Instow, with more views from the deck in the back garden, the lounge and two bedrooms. It is a peaceful and sunny place but a stones throw from the seaside activities on the quay in Appledore or a ferry ride over to Instow or a walk to the unspoilt national park of Northam Burrows and a surfing beach. The house is light colourful and airy.
Appledore is an enchanting fishing village, quaint and full of colour. There is a lovely atmosphere, peaceful yet alive with seaside activities and festivals. Enjoy a ride over to Instow on the local ferry, crabbing or fishing on the quay, meandering the colourful streets adorned with bunting to explore the many local artist shops, enjoy fish and chips or a local Hockings ice cream on the front or relax in one of the restaurants or pubs, many of which host live bands. Nearby are surfing beaches or Northam burrows where the beaches and the fast flow of the estuary water gives an immense feeling of space. Within a 20 minutes drive you can reach the most incredible cliffs of Hartland point or 30 minutes the popular surfing beaches of Bude or 40 minutes Woolacombe. There are many festivals to enjoy throughout the year, from sailing and gig rowing regattas to literary and arts festivals. There is even a world crabbing competition!
Appledore is a very quaint and colourful fishing village, with water on three sides, two rivers meet in the estuary and flow rapidly out to the Atlantic. It has a great sleepy yet active atmosphere and the people take pride in their village. You can see bunting and hand made door knockers everywhere. It has a lot of pubs, most of which host live music.

  • This property is highly recommended! We had just a short three day break in this charming property which is only a few minutes walk from the quay in one direction and the Lifeboat Station in the other. The property is over three floors and offers a variety of spaces, all of which are comfortably furnished. The kitchen/dining space is vast and very well stocked with all you could possible need. All beds and couches are very comfortable. Linen and towels are provided. There is a large downstairs lounge with TV and a small upstairs lounge with boxed games and a TV which our children used and loved. Each bedroom had a chest of drawers and wardrobe giving ample storage space for belongings. There is a separate downstairs loo within a small utility room and and a bath/shower room on each upstairs floor. Outside there is a small patio area with seating and a table which also leads up, via a short staircase, to the private parking area which was amazing to have so close to the centre of the town. There is also access to a BBQ. What more could you want? Catherine makes a number of recommendations for places to visit and take-away food opportunities in her house guide book and those that we tried were "spot on"!! Catherine met us to open up and personally explained everything we needed to know. Thank you Catherine for helping to make our stay so enjoyable.

  • We had a lovely stay at Catherine's place. It is in a great location close to several nice pubs and cafes. The house is very spacious with a lovely outdoor area which we would have used more had the weather been better. Lots of great recommendations on things to do in the area and the house was very well set up for guests with a baby. Catherine was very helpful and check in very easy. We would love to come back again soon.

  • We loved our stay at Quebec house, the house has everything you need, in beautiful scenic town within walking distance to shops, country pubs, fish and chips, beach etc. The house was comfortable enough for 6 adults and a dog.

My place is close to the beach, family-friendly activities, and public transport. You’ll love my place because of the neighbourhood. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
  • The house was spacious and clean, very well presented and equipped. It is right in the middle of Appledore which is wonderful, and so convenient. We had a perfect holiday despite the weather.

  • I would highly recommend staying at The Captain's House - the pictures don't do it justice - it's exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to go back.

appledore is a small fishing village on the north devon coast , two miles from westward ho beach , ten minutes to bideford with all its shops and super markets , delightfull coast line , and we are right in the middle of a working boat yard ,so always plenty to see
  • Had a fabulous few days getaway here. jan was lovely - communicating regularly and even picked me up and drove me from the Quay to the flat. Jan's flat is truly gorgeous - everything you need and more. Clean, lovely and warm, spacious, great kitchen and bathroom with good quality fittings. The living room is lovely and well furnished. The beds are SO comfy - I had the best sleeps!! It's an easy 10 minute walk along a little windy lae to the hearrt of Appledore. But, for me, the very best thing was the quirky location and those amazing views! Two great balconies from which to enjoy the ever-changing light over the stunning riverside scenery. I saw boats passing night and day, wildlife on the estuary and a glorious view of the Super Moon with reflections in the water. Being right next to one of Appledore's historic boat building yards was a real bonus. Such a shame the boat building industry is not what it used to be in glory days, but great to be able to have views and access to that important part of history. I loved it here! Thank you Jan

  • The apartment was well cleaned and the view was amazing. Its location was quiet and a little way out from the Appledore, a beautiful and quaint town. I felt like I could even live there. Janice did her best to make sure our arrival was smooth and we really enjoyed our stay. We would have extended it if we didn't have other plans already made!

  • A comfortable, quiet, clean place to stay set over 2 levels. Easy check in process and friendly quick help from Janice. The area where the property is just under 10minutes walk from the centre of town but it was nice a quiet of a weekend! Appledore is lovely and the local pub was great!

  • We booked Janice's apartment for New Years eve and had a lovely stay. The apartment has lovely views over the estuary and two balcony's. Be aware that it is located next to a ship yard and might not suit everyone. For us the easy walking distance of the centre of Appledore and being within 80m ish of the changing tide was great. We had a great stay, a nice meal in Appledore and then walked into Bideford (a few miles). The apartment was well equipped and we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you Janice we will return again one day. Anthony and Astrid

  • Good contact with Jan before arrival for reassurance re parking. Parked outside! Flat has an amazing view of estuary, sounds of birds filled our time there. Glad I took binoculars as could view all the different birds. Nice spacious flat . Easy access to local village, walk or bike. Lovely village and surroundings. Will come back!!

  • Had an amazing 3 day well needed break in the Waterside apartment. Located in a really quiet area with parking right outside the front door. The apartment was spacious, spotless and really well equipped. Spent a lot of time sitting on the balcony drinking wine watching the events on the river. Janice was really helpful replied to my texts instantly and recommended a good restaurant. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning.

Amber Cottage is a spacious 2 bedroom Georgian cottage tucked away down one of Appledore's many famous narrow lanes, just a stones throw from the quay and shops, the cottage has a large lounge to relax in, with wood burner and walled courtyard garden.
Lovingly decorated with beautiful textiles and antique shop curiosities this cottage has special charm. The 18ft master bedroom boasts a luxurious French upholstered super king bed. The large lounge with its high beamed ceilings, wood burner, cosy sofas, 32’ TV, great selection of DVD’s, free wireless internet, books and games make this the perfect place to relax after a busy day on the beach.

  • Jill was brilliant and left us a bottle of wine and some treats! The house is even better than it looks in photo's and in a perfect location. Great views of the sea and sunset from the huge windows in the living room and literally a stones throw from the beach. The house is really spacious and you could easily accommodate more than 8 if entertaining guests, having people over for dinner etc Would recommend this to family's, groups of friends or anyone just looking for a quiet break away. Instow itself is lovely with some great pubs within walking distance of the house. Would definitely visit again!

  • What a wonderful house, it's so bright, airy, clean and has spectacular views. The sunsets were such a delight. The house is right across the road from the beach, which was fantastic for the children and the Tarka trail runs right through the village which is fantastic for long walks or bike rides. The village is absolutely lovely, with lots of great places to eat for all ages and if like us, you happen to have a load of kids, they welcome them with open arms. There’s also a great grocery store, were you can buy almost all you need, but if you want something bigger, the big chains are only a five minute drive outside the village. Across the bay is the small village of Appledore and if you are feeling adventuress you can take the tiny ferry across, which only takes seven minutes, lots of fun and the crabbing is fab. We were spoilt for choice with beaches to get surf lessons for the kids, but we chose West Ward Ho in the end and they loved it, the fish and chips were the best we’ve ever tasted. The house was fully complete with a great play area in the garage for the kids and a separate video room in the main living area and as us mums and dads know, if the kids are happy, then we are happy. The house had everything and more than we could ever need. Thank you so much to Jill and her mum, we hope to stay at your wonderful house again soon.

  • The place is excellent! Truly an wonderful house and the location is perfect. My family arrived (Wife, two grown-up daughters and my granddaughter) and we were so pleased with the house. Big house. Very comfortable beds. Great showers. Hot water all the time. The house has everything. The quality of house is top notch, from the TV to the giant sofas to the utensils, the beds, everything! The location is perfect. Walking distance to some great pubs and restaurants. Stone throw to the beach. Central location to drive up north to Woolacombe or a short drive south to Clovelly. Spectacular places to visit. Even though the house is very central, you still have all the peace and quiet you need, Sitting in the front balcony and looking at the stunning view across to Appledore is a treat every night. Jill was very quick to respond to any communications that I sent. She also is very customer focused and made sure we had everything right down to the finest detail. If you are looking for a top quality house to stay in, have peace and quiet, be in a central location, have breathtaking views, then this is the place for you! I would have absolutely no hesitation to stay here again. Fully recommended!

  • Booked 2 The Dunes for a short Christmas break for 7 of us. Had a FANTASTIC time. House is very spacious and the open area upstairs is wonderful, so light and airy and sociable. In a superb location right next to beach with views of the sea and sand dunes. Lots of local pubs and a brilliant local shop. Nice walks from your doorstep. Highly recommended. Other highlights: good powerful showers (rare in rental properties), decent WiFi, quiet and 2 balconies.

    Carl2015-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a week in the Dunes over the bank holiday weekend and it was pretty much the perfect location and an amazing house! The living area is really spacious with the separate kitchen/diner very well equipped and easy to navigate! Also worth noting that the Sky TV isn't just a basic package, it has pretty much all the movie and sports channels, so good for telly addicts!!! The layout of the house means that you always catch the sun whatever time of day it is, and the sunset views are spectacular. Comfy beds, everywhere was nice and clean too. A brilliant stay- thanks!

    Nick2016-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • We would defintely stay here again, the house is beautiful with great furnishings and in a perfect spot for the beach. The pool table in the garage was a bonus and great fun. Lovely views, walks, great village. Recommend catching the ferry across to Appledore and crabbing off the quay.

  • We had a lovely stay at 2 The Dunes with our 5 month old son Henry. We booked it as our 'mini moon' after our wedding. The house was just as described and cleaner than some hotels we've stayed in. Jill was brilliant and communicated very well with us prior to our stay which was most helpful, she also advised of local areas, pubs, restaurants etc that were baby friendly. I would thoroughly recommend 2 The Dunes and we hope to visit again soon!

  • Parking in Appledore is very restrictive and Julie's place has space for two cars and parking on the street. It is a short walk to the village but the hills are steep!! The bungalow is fantastic and so well equipped. We will come again that is guaranteed.

  • We had a fantastic time at a beautiful place to stay for a short holiday. Great base to explore the area and house had everything you could wish for in a place to live, for a few days at least! Great genuine hosts and would recommend to anyone interested in visiting an unique holiday home and a beautiful area of the country

  • A wonderful home and location. Perfect place to relax and explore from.

    Alison2017-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • What a pleasant experience from start to finish! The communication from Julie was first class, from the very initial contact to providing us with additional information about cycling in the area after we had made an enquiry into the proximity of the Tarka Trail. Arriving late we really appreciated the essentials left in the fridge as well. The house itself is an obviously well loved home from which visitors benefit from a wealth of books and information about the local area, games and a very pretty well kept garden (even with fresh produce to pick). The house is very spacious and comfortable for 4 people: having two bathrooms (with large fluffy towels) and plenty of space to chill out (with two teenagers this was a luxury as was wi fi! ). Being able to walk both to the coastal path and easily down into the village of Appledore (where you can find a range of places to eat and interesting shops as well as a spot of crabbing) meant that the house is in a perfect location and we really appreciated that you allowed dogs as well. So all in all a great find for us to spend a long weekend exploring Appledore and reasonably priced too. We would undoubtedly recommend to others.

    Kate2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • Appledore is a lovely fishing village with many quaint shops in and around and enough cafes and restaurants to try out. Thanks again Julie and Terry for the use of your bungalow to stay in for our visit. It had everything we needed in it to make us feel at home and was also an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area.

    Jane2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a famous stay. This home is beautifully cared for, and the care and attention to detail shines through in all areas. The garden is small and secluded, and catches the sun all around the day. The house itself is such a relaxing space, and the kitchen is a delight if you are a keen cook. We loved that there are fantastic walks with coastal views just a few minutes from the doorstep. The village itself is a short stroll away and has lots of interesting little lanes to explore, as well as a long quayside where there is always something going on with boats or people crabbing - it is a good place for a wander to watch the world go by. Julie and Terry are friendly and generous hosts, and have been so thoughtful about making guests welcome - we felt well looked after.

  • The Granary Flat was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. It represented excellent value for money and Jacky and Aubrey were helpful and welcoming - there was also an unexpected but lovely welcome pack of essential groceries and toiletries. I'd recommend buying some farm fresh eggs from them - absolutely delicious.

  • We had a lovely stay here. The lodge was clean & had everything we needed with a few extra complimentary bits. The hosts were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • We were in the "hobbit" house fo about 5 day. We liked it very much to stay there. Without a car I imagine the movement in that area propably might be a bitt complicated - we would recomment a rental car. We had everything we needed. Jacky and her husband were very friendly and we felt wery confortable. We would recomment to stay in the Granary Flat :).

    Marina2016-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage and location and great value for money; everything you need for a comfortable stay. However there was not much privacy as the cottage is a stones throw away from the hosts front door; with a clear window in the front door looking directly into the bedroom. This made the unannounced morning visit from the host and a plumber to fix the leaky shower quite alarming! There is also no way of locking the cottage. Sadly a misunderstanding regarding the dog-friendly aspect, as the hosts weren't happy for us to leave our dogs unattended in the cottage even for short periods, meaning we had to cancel some plans such as a bike ride and a horse ride on the beach as it was hot weather and we weren't happy leaving the dogs in the car. This wasn't specified in any correspondence prior to our stay, therefore resulted in some confusion which wasn't dealt with pleasantly; making us feel quite unwelcome thereafter. I would recommend this cottage to people without dogs or to those wanting to take their dogs with them at all times only.

    Kayleigh2016-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Granary is a small, comfortable, immaculately clean retreat which had everything we needed for a short stay. The kitchen was well equipped, the bed was comfy and the shower was excellent. Jacky left breakfast items and toiletries which were appreciated. We loved the setting on a working farm, and the privacy and peace. Sadly the weather wasn't good when we were there so we were unable to enjoy eating outside. However we were out all day cycling the Tarka trail and visiting local attractions such as Rosemoor Gardens and Arlington Court so this wasn't an issue for us. The Granary is a short drive from Instow where there is a great beach for walking and some good places to eat in the evening.

  • Jacky was delightful as a host and both her and her husband were lovely and very helpful with any problems or anything we needed! The only complaint I have is that I didn't stay longer!

    Harry2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • A nice secluded spot in the rural countryside of North Devon. A little hard to find 1st time round, even with instructions and the driving / access would not suit everyone - particularly nervous drivers. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and as advertised and Jacky was very helpful and welcoming. It had most of the basic requirements for our short stay and finding milk and croissants awaiting us was a pleasant surprise. Quite a good base for exploring the north Devon Countryside.

  • There aren't enough good things I can say about our stay at Linda's place... the house itself is so stylishly decorated and well-equipped, with full Sky TV, a hot tub, gorgeous comfy beds, a huge kitchen with everything you need, a lounge just made for relaxing in and an incredible free-standing bathtub. What made it really special though, was all the extra touches Linda had left for us, like a bottle of prosecco and a Christmas hamper, bathrobes and slippers and toiletries. Not to mention the stunning Christmas tree in the lounge. We enjoyed lots of walks on the nearby Instow beach and Tarka Trail and John's Deli and cafe in Instow was absolutely lovely to go down to for fresh supplies (the cheese counter is incredible!) and great coffee. We didn't eat in any of the town's restaurants, but there seem to be plenty to choose from, and they always looked bustling and popular. Thank you, Linda, for making our Christmas break so special. We loved every second!

The kitchen is well equipped with gas oven and hob as well as a fitted microwave oven. There is plenty of workspace and utensils. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer tucked away in the old larder. The kitchen overlooks the dining area which makes it a very socialable place to eat and drink! Upstairs on the second floor is a family bathroom with a good sized King Sized bedroom, with sea views, a brilliant children’s bedroom with a bunk bed set, as well as a small single bedroom with sea views and family bathroom with bath and over bath power shower. On the third level is a large king sized bedroom with ensuite, with sea views. The house is situated 100 yards from the beach and closest pub. The back garden is enclosed and contains a BBQ and dining set. Our house is situated in the beautiful village of Instow North Devon. Instow is a quiet unspoilt coastal village. In the village there is a fabulous delicatessen/shop. Four pubs with restaurants. There is a ferry that runs in the summer months which goes to and from the fishing village of Appledore over the four hour high tide period. The village has also the Tarka bicycle trail running through it which runs from Braunton through to Oakhampton. Instow is an Estuary village so is very safe for children to play on the beach. Instow is a great village to explore from; surf beaches of Westward Ho!, Northam, Saunton, Croyde are all easily accessible. Instow is also great for places such as Hartland, Welcombe, Clovelly and family days out at the Big Sheep, Milky Way, Dartington Crystal and Atlantic Village and Quinces Honey Farm.
Instow is a fabulous village to visit if you want something that is coastal but totally unspoilt. The village is quiet and has beautiful estuary beach, which is great for small children to potter around. There is the Tarka Trail that runs through the village which runs from Braunton to Oakhampton. The village has four pubs all offering good quality food, as well as the local store that has an amazing delicatessen section. Instow is home to the North Devon Cricket club, which is the most beautiful place to watch cricket and have a beer! We like Instow as everything is accessible such as surf beaches, coastal walks and day out for adventures. For us there is no better place than to be situated in Instow! North Devon The North Devon coast is a wonderful place to holiday. There are many unspoilt wild beaches to visit such as Welcombe and Hartland and Clovelly. There are numerous surf beaches dotted all over the coastline, the nearest being Westaward Ho! and Northam Burrows 10 minutes away or Saunton and Croyde less than 30 minutes away. Puttesborough beach and Woolacombe also offer great days out for surfing. North Devon is also great for those wanting a quiet unspoilt getaway, especially for those wanting Coastal Walks and scenic views. We like North Devon as it provides us not only with surf beaches and rock pooling for our family but other activities such as crabbing at the local fishing village of Apple Dore which is accessible by a ferry running from Instow which runs from Easter through to the end of September. North Devon also provides many days out and activities for us and the children, such as the Big Sheep in Bideford, the Milky Way and Dartington Glass in Torrington. For those that are requiring something more hard-core there is also quadding, coasteering, clay pigeon shooting also close by.

Spacious 3 bedroom house in the quaint North Devon village of Appledore. Sleeps 7. One main bathroom with shower and jacuzzi bath; one downstairs toilet; and an ensuite bathroom with shower in the master bedroom. Off street parking available for a small-medium sized car & on street parking for larger cars. Great location, walking distance to Appledore Quay, and (for those that enjoy a slightly longer walk) to Westward Ho beach. Beautiful house with stunning views and great location.
On the ground floor, is an open plan living and dining area, seating for eight at the table and a very cosy log burner for colder days. There is a spacious fully-fitted kitchen, with a good selection of crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. We also have a downstairs cloakroom. On the first floor, our main bedroom, complete with ensuite, has a king size bed, and beautiful estuary views. A second bedroom has a double bed, and plenty of wardrobe space. The family bathroom has a jacuzzi bath and separate shower. On the second floor is a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, and views to Hartland point, the estuary and Baggy point. .
Appledore is a small quirky traditional fishing village with brightly coloured cottages, and perhaps one of the most unspoilt places to visit in the West Country. Enjoy fish and chips followed by locally made Hockings ice cream on the quay. Coffee shops, gift shops and a selection of places to eat mean that you don't have to travel far, all are within walking distance of the house. Hire a bike and cycle the Tarka trail, a great day out for all the family. Other family activities include The Big Sheep, The Gnome Reserve, The Milky Way, and Skern Lodge activity centre. Lovely beaches at Westward Ho! which is approximately a 45 minute walk from the house. Fishing, sailing, bird watching, walking, cream teas. Appledore has a great music scene with Jazz evenings in the local pubs. Local pubs also have a great selection of evening meals, so no need to cook. Trips to Lundy Island are also available from Bideford. The Royal North Devon Golf Club at Westward Ho! was founded in 1864, and is the oldest golf course in England.

  • Secluded and quiet campsite. One shower and toilet. Pub within close driving distance - good for surfing nearby - peaceful and cheap.

  • Fresh laid eggs, views, calm, space, alpacas in the field, beautiful horses neighing across the fields, space for badminton, beautifully kept farm... What is not to love? Wins hands down compared to the big, busy campsites. Yes more remote but that was a bonus..

  • The field itself isn't the most beautiful camping field ive stayed in however the rest of this tiny camp site is great! We were the only campers so could choose where we camped. The facilities were located in a building close to the house a short walk away. There was a loo, good hot shower and washing up facilities with access to a washing machine and dryer. All very clean. The farm itself is in a lovely location and very beautiful. At night it was quiet except for listening to the birds coming into roost. It was peaceful and a lovely place to get away from it all. Despite seeming remote Barnstable (and the biggest Sainsburys I have ever been to) was a 10 minute drive away. Highly recommend this quiet corner of Devon

  • If you're after beautiful Devonshire scenery nestled away from the hustle and bustle but not so far that I felt uncomfortable as a signel woman on my own. Jacky's farm is gorgeous, the facilities are spot on the the shower is wonderful. I can highly recommend it and will be heading back as soon as I can.

  • A lovely small field just off the farmhouse with set pitches all with electric hook up. Next to the sheep and alpacas and a wonderful view to wake up to in the morning. Toilet, shower and some washing up facilities are situated in an off building in the house. Great location for exploring North Devon

  • Great facilities but very little shelter and site is on top of a hill. We were unlucky to have very high winds due to a storm a few nights. If you are camping or have an awning you need the strongest pegs, we bent even heavy duty rock pegs. Shower/toilet always nice and clean. Washing facilities excellent. Ground is mostly level. Apart from the weather was an ideal site for us.

Just outside of the estate is a small organic supermarket where you can buy all local produce including fish from Lundy island.
  • We had a lovely stay at Jess's place, the house had everything we needed and was in a good location and had lots of parking outside. Great for families with a park not far away and a short drive to the beach. They had left lots of toys for the children to play with, they loved it. Jessica was quick to respond to all our questions and nothing was too much trouble for her. Loads of great restaurants and takeaways around and the kitchen was well equipped for cooking for the whole family. Thanks for a great stay Jessica!

  • We stayed on a business trip and had a great stay. The house is lovely - very spacious, yet warm and is well decorated and furnished. The house was very clean on arrival and check in was straight forward. We had great communication from Jessica in the run-up to and during our stay. The house has everything you need for a really comfortable stay, including dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Very convenient for Bideford and the surrounding towns and villages. We would highly recommend, thanks Jessica and family!

  • Our stay here was perfect. As soon as we arrived, we could see that Jessica had worked hard to make sure of this. She had pretty much thought of everything and provided all those essential things along with some luxuries too! She kept us informed before our visit, and the information provided at the house was very helpful about the local area, places to visit etc. We stayed as a couple, but Jessica's place would also be ideal for families wanting a base in the area. Would recommend.
