Restaurant
“Street food gets an ultra-hip setting — graffiti-ed walls, neon lights, and bright colors — at Orale, where locals go for Mexican food and a raucous scene. There are plenty of easygoing tacos and guacamole to pair with a myriad of margaritas, and a very lively bar scene. It all adds up to make this an especially great place for groups.”

Bagel Shop
“Wonder Bagel is the only bagel game in town, but it’s a good one at that. Bagels are baked all day on premises, and just like any good bagel shop, there’s an endless variety of flavors and cream cheeses. But unlike NYC bagelries, this proud NJ business has the cult favorite local tradition of Taylor ham. Beware of extra-long lines on the weekends. ”

Juice Bar
“Yes there's a mall within walking distance, just in case you miss the suburbs while you're staying in Jersey City. There is a Cheesecake Factory, a Zinburger, and a Johnny Rockets here, plus the usual mall stuff (McDonald's, etc.) and a food court. There is also a movie theater, and of course shopping. The large stores are Macy's, Khol's, JC Penny, and Sears. That should tell you that this is a mid-range mall (there's no Saks Fifth Avenue or Lord & Taylor here), but the owners seem to be trying to make it more upscale. If you want high-end shopping, take the PATH to World Trade Center and visit the stores at Brookfield Place.”

Boulangerie
“No more than five people can pack into this tiny deli/bakery that has been around for almost 100 years. Longtime locals — usually Jersey City police officers, firefighters, or other neighborhood workers who have been stopping by for years — go for the filling and relatively inexpensive Italian sub sandwiches. Don’t miss the loaves of meat-stuffed bread, or the cinnamon dessert variety, though. Cash only.”

Ice Cream Shop
“Just a block away by Hamilton Park, this ice cream shop has rotating unique and homemade flavors. Definitely worth a stop!”

Restaurant italien
“BYOB, family friendly neighborhood pizza restaurant with generous portions. They make their own mozzarella in house and overall excellent value for the quality. Sausage broccoli rabe appetizer, portobello salad and a Margherita pie make for a complete midweek meal. Sometimes their crust can be little undercooked so we always ask for it well done. Best bang for buck is to grab one of their gigantic slices for like $3, at the takeout counter on 5th street.”

Boulangerie
“Named after birthplace of cantucci, more widely known as biscotti, in Prato, Italy. This bakery/cafe has amazing, authentic focaccia sandwiches made with high quality imported Italian products. My faves are Spicy Porchetta which they roast in house, Manhattan, Sienna and La Boscaiola sandwiches. Paired with fresh squeezed OJ or limonata makes for exceptional breakfast or lunch. ”
