  • This is a wonderful tiny home! It was a great location to explore both sides of Mt St Helens. The home itself is set in a beautiful garden. Everything about it was lovely!

  • Thank you Yvonne and Adam for your hospitality. It was a pleasure meeting you and sharing your slice of nature and nurturing property. Will bring my husband next time we venture to the coast. Your tiny house was perfect for me while on my work trip. Loved walking the nearby trails and especially Lake Sacajawea.

  • AMAZING!! AMAZING!! AMAZING!! My family and I absolutely loved our stay at the Deja Vu Secret Gardens. The hosts, Yvonne and Adam, are REALLY REALLY great people. We had an entire floor to ourselves. It was a very clean space with a nice bathroom and convenient washer/dryer. My family arrived late in the night and Yvonne and Adam waited up late for us just to show us in. There was also breakfast in the room for us in the morning (granola, milk, coffee, berries, etc) with plenty of water. Upon departure, Yvonne gave us fresh baked cookies for the road. I MEAN C'MON, HOW DO YOU BEAT THAT?? Definitely two of the best Air B&B hosts I have experienced so far -- and I've done this all over the world. The backyard has a lovely flower garden, hot tub, fruit trees, and plenty of land to roam around in (your inner-kid will want to play freeze tag / the neighbors set up a little mini golf area / there's an actual golf course just beyond the backyard). Overall, I would highly recommend this Air B&B. You can use it as a base for day trips into Portland, Mt. St. Helen, and other nearby destinations -- or you can just spend the night here on your road trip like we did. The big win at this place would definitely be the hosts -- Yvonne and Adam treated us like family and now their welcoming attitude remains one of the highlights of our family's 2016 summer road trip in the Pacific Northwest.

  • Fantastic! Super cute space with beautiful antiques. Loved the huge bathroom. The living/sleeping area was very well designed and comfortable. Great for two adults and a child. Nice yard with a creek that overlooks a golf course. Will definitely stay here again!

  • My daughter who was staying here for business had her husband drive up to join her one night, but that did not work out because Tina did not have enough time to vet him. So out of respect for Tina and Dirk, give them enough time to approve anyone you might be bringing with you to their place.

    Shanna2017-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Tina and Dirk were very kind and flexible when it came to our arrival. They allowed us to check in later than expected, gave great recommendations on where to eat, and were very friendly.

We have a studio apartment with a private entrance and off-street parking. The house is across the street from lovely Lake Sacajawea in Longview, Washington, a city built in 1923 as part of the City Beautiful movement. You can take a pleasant walk around the perimeter (3+ miles) or part of the lake. For those in the traveling medical field, we are a short distance from the hospital which is on the opposite side of the lake.
The house was built in 1981 from salvage from the eruption of Mt St Helens. Our family had a cabin on the north fork of the Toutle River which was washed away in the debris flow. My dad was eligible for what was then a low-interest loan (8 1/2%) from the government and built the house next to our own home. My uncle had timbered property that had to be cut because of the inundation of ash and gave Dad permission to take whatever Weyerhaeuser left behind. He knew a guy with a portable sawmill nearby and they milled all the lumber by hand. Then Dad, who was distinctly NOT handy and in his 60s, built the house with the help of a brother-in-law in his late 70s. Incredibly, they pulled it off, and it is now being visited by people from all over the world.
We are right across the street from Lake Sacajawea, a long narrow lake and park that is 3+ miles around its perimeter. We have two cruiser bikes available (one male and one female) if you'd like to ride around the lake.
  • This is a wonderful place for longer stays. It has a complete kitchen setup, a great location next to Lake Sacajawea Park, and ample parking. The hosts are accommodating and friendly.

My apartment is ideal for couples with two children and business travelers who want separate rooms. It has a fully equipped utility kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a vanity. It has a sitting/dining area, and a laundry/storage room. The apartment has its own entrance, parking spaces and overlooks secluded woods at the back. The house is close to town, shops, amenities and five minutes from I5. Guests from all backgrounds are very welcome. The apartment is ideal for long-term stays.
Guests are entirely independent and private in the space but can socialize as much as they wish. The kitchen is ideal for most things but for more elaborate cooking there is a much larger kitchen on the main floor of the house. The downstairs has it's own private entrance or can be accessed through the house if necessary. The neighborhood is very quiet, and safety is not an issue here, the location couldn't be any more convenient for shops and amenities.
Park Hill Drive is an established neighborhood and adjoins several loops of houses making it perfect for early morning strolls and dog walks. There is very little traffic because of only one access making it safe, quiet and secluded. The neighbors vary from young families to single occupancy and retirees. Most neighbors, including myself, have lived in this neighborhood for many years.
  • Ann's home is a beautiful house in the woodsier area of Longview! Up on the hill close to town, you can expect a very peaceful stay and even see some deer in the morning!! She has great recommendations for the town, and has everything you need in the apartment! She is very effective in communicating and I loved having her as my host!

    Ryan Elizabeth2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Ann's apartment is absolutely perfect. My daughter and I stayed 11 nights, and this was our last vacation before she goes off to college next year. Longview was a prime location for us. We visited a college, spent a couple of days in Portland, another two in Seattle, and one very delightful day at Cannon Beach. We could have done so much more in the area had we made the choice for a different pace. Instead, my daughter and I enjoyed staying "home" in Ann's apartment for a couple of days. We had brought a puzzle to work on along with several books, and we were able to settle in so completely. The apartment is advertised as cozy, yet my first impression upon seeing it firsthand was that of permeating sunlight and a lovely view of endless shades of green. Upon leaving however, cozy is the first word to come to mind. I've concluded that the good beds, the quality bedding, the green surroundings of nature, and the quietness of the neighborhood all contributed to a desire to simply snuggle up in bed or sit on the deck in the morning with a cup of tea. Ann allowed my daughter and me to determine our level of interaction with her. While my daughter stayed in the apartment one evening, I enjoyed a dinner with Ann that was absolutely delicious. On our last day with Ann I was not looking forward to the long flight back to South Carolina. One final time, Ann demonstrated an excellence in hospitality. Not only did we share some tea together, but she also served me a bowl full of comfort food. That my daughter and I were able to stay in Ann's apartment in Longview is something for which I am extremely grateful. As a single mother, my daughter and I have taken but a few big vacations. This trip was a splurge, counted among others in single digits. I could not have hoped for more. I simply cannot believe that, had we stayed anywhere else, my daughter and I would have had a more contented experience. We were so comfortable with each other there for a multitude of reasons. Ann offered easy interaction, and the true coziness of the apartment set for my daughter and me a pleasant mood, an unhurried pace, quality sleep, sunlight, and a desire to delay our return home. Thank you, Ann, for offering such a wonderful home away from home.

  • Ann has a beautiful home that is in a beautiful area, and was ideal for our needs. We even saw large deer in the backyard during our stay. Thanks Ann for letting us use your home.

  • Anns place was lovely; we truly enjoyed our stay. Her house was clean and quiet and the surrounding area was both beautiful and peaceful. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Would definitely stay there again.

Walk in to a tiny but comfortable cabin in the woods. Eco-equipped with outdoor sun shower, composting toilet, cookstove, drinking water, and a stocked pantry. Full sleeping loft. Solar/battery/inverter electricity, and a tiny woodstove for comfort.
Secluded in the woods, but only a short walk in. The cabin is a timber-framed, rustic construction structure. It is a very cozy and friendly space that has been customized and added to by many visitors.
We have a wonderful, rural, backwoods setting. There are lots of amazing natural features around the Kalama River, including old growth Western Hemlock and Western Red Cedars and a spectacular waterfall visible from the Kalama River Road.

  • Amazing, comfortable, well stocked cabin. Hospitable and friendly hosts. Had a great weekend getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Really enjoyed seeing all the farm animals and hiking around the big, forested property every day.

    Elena2015-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • I was looking for a quick trip out of the city to re-center myself and relax. Green Cabin exceeded my expectations!! I can't wait to return. Donal was very welcoming and kind, and the property is wonderful. There is a small creek/stream running through the middle of the property offering a beautiful layer of natural sound. The Green Cabin is secluded and exists far enough away that you feel safe and cozy; an ideal space for meditation, creative pursuits, or just basking in the natural beauty of the forest. It is close to many trails and great places to hike, bike, fish, and probably every other outdoor activity. My favorite part of the cabin is the sleeping loft. It is huge and you can lie in bed and gaze out of the big window at the stars. There is plenty of basic foods and a wood burning stove, along with a dual burner camp stove so it's easy to prepare and enjoy awesome meals. The outdoor table is cool too.

  • What a special place! Don and his whole family are lovely hosts. I'd said my 6 year old wanted to meet the animals, and after we were welcomed by Don and his 3 oldest kids (age 6 and under), they all proceeded to give us a sweet tour of their property and introduced us to all their animals - during our visit, they had a goat, chickens, ducks and ducklings, a rabbit, a couple kittens, and a sweet huge gentle old dog (who lives in a fenced area guarding the chickens). The stream running through the property is soothing, and they've created (and are still enhancing) a little green retreat site. The cabin itself is very rustic and quite small, just perfect for a cozy little retreat for one or two. You sleep in the loft reached via built in ladder, and it would also easily work for a couple with a little child if they were used to cozy sleeping. It's like a king sized mattress size with a downstairs and upstairs - so it's more like camping than staying in a studio apartment. But that is the charm. You get a tiny hike in from your car through the trees away from the main house, so you're in a very private setting. The cabin has a gas stove outdoors and inside are dishes, handy little LED battery lights (there's no electricity), plus a load of pantry staples for you (beans, lentils, oats, tea, curry powder, and more were in the cabinet during our visit). This isn't a posh B&B, so don't expect that. If you have your camping gear with you (sleeping bags etc), you'll have backup for anything you need that isn't already there. We wanted a unique, peaceful night, and this was a home run. We loved the entire experience and my kiddo keeps talking about it. We'd return in a heartbeat!

    Mikyn2014-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely magical location. A great blend of cozy and rustic. Don't expect luxury, but rather posh camping. But it's a beautiful place hosted by a lovely family. Highly recommend. Bring your own pillow, if you want one.

  • Absolutely love my stay here. The cabin was private, peaceful, and cozy! Wish I could’ve stayed longer.

  • Very secluded and nice get away. Bring your own water and blankets. And matches for the fire. Cute cabin in the woods. Be prepared for a short walk up the hill to the cabin. The hosts were very nice.

Darling 100 sq foot rustic cabin, wonderfully secluded in the woods. Try out tiny-house living, or use as a basecamp for your outdoor adventures. Rest easy on the memory foam bed in loft. A short but steep hike up results in a fantastic forest experience!
Conveniently located just 9 miles from the I-5 corridor (one hour from Portland, two from Seattle), yet exists in a different, more peaceful world. Spot the Bald Eagle family as you follow the stunning Kalama River--past Marietta Falls--to our small homestead in the woods. Spend the week surrounded by giant Hemlock, Alder, Doug Fir, and Western Red Cedar trees, the singing of tree frogs, and the elusive local elk herd. Perfect for stargazing by night, and kayaking or day trips to Mount Saint Helens and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest by day. Reserve early for this summer's meteor showers! Forage for berries and chanterelles in season, and take a dip in Italian Creek.
Just two miles from the Kalama River, and 9 miles from the mighty Columbia. Great base camp for all the activities in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest (Ape Caves, Mount Saint Helens, Lewis River Falls).
  • This little cabin had so much more than we had expected. From the full kitchen setup, to board games, to the frog serenade every night, Don's place was a wonderful homey escape. We came on one of the first weekends of spring, and some roads were washed out, so we weren't able to enjoy the nearby attractions as we had been hoping. Don was great about contacting me with a detour routes and all was well!

    Natalie2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Donal is very friendly! He has made a great home for his family in a secluded area. Very open and comfortable. If you want to kick it mountain style this is your jam!

    Chelsea2016-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • I adored everything about Red Cabin on the Hill! Donal and his family are so incredibly kind and helpful. I love that I was greeted by 3 of their boys who were eager to help me and carry things for me. They were so polite and even gifted me a lovely feather and two beautiful rocks they had found. The cabin was a dream. It was nice to feel like I was camping but, the cabin provided the perfect shelter for those random rain showers. They have provided a more than accommodating space and are so generous with their time and kindness!

  • I really enjoyed staying at the red cabin. I nicknamed it Tin Tin haha It was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget. The property is beautiful and I will for sure be back. The Kalama river is so close and has a secret beach type environment. Everyone should look into that.

    Daniel2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • The setting and the cabin exceeded my expectations. The owners are full of life. It's a great place to escape the city and be one with nature. Thanks for sharing you wonderland Donal + family! Will be back.

A great getaway! Cute, cozy, rustic remote farmhouse with at home amenities overlooking Columbia River. Wonderful patio with great views of river and Mt. St. Helens. Away from the crowds but close enough for some fun too. Family-friendly (maybe not young kids), pet friendly and just a great place to relax and get away. Great for couples, solo getaways, or a group of great friends. Close to fishing with the Columbia only a few miles away. And a great artist/author retreat as well!
Super quiet - no cars, planes, fire engines House is cozy and comfortable All the at home perks, fully equipped kitchen, claw foot tub, wood burning stove, outdoor firepit, enclosed porch. Great common and private spaces Beautiful sun and moon rises Great view of the Columbia Close to Portland, but far enough away Ocean beaches are about an hour away Astoria is about 60 miles with amazing fishing Columbia River is a few miles down the road with awesome fishing
It's a county road off the main highway. A few working farms but mostly residential. Very quiet - so loud parties are not allowed please. It is definitely a social place, we just would prefer no raging parties.
  • Endroit magnifique, ultra tranquille. Très complet il ne Manque rien.

    Mathieu2018-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • I took a short 'ME' get-away to this lovely farmhouse and had the most amazing time. It is quiet, secluded and relaxing, which was the goal for my trip. I wasn't aware of how beautiful and expansive the view would be; I was in complete awe! The sunrise offered up some amazing photos. I sat out by the fire-pit with my morning coffee and soaked up every bit of peace and tranquility of the hilltop view. The interior of the home was cozy, eclectic and very inviting. The caretaker had even built a nice fire in the wood stove upon my arrival. Since it was just me staying in the home, I can only vouch for the comfort of the bed on the main level of the home. It was probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. There are plenty of linens, pillows and every kitchen gadget you could need to feel right at home. The owner's have done an amazing job at making their guests feel welcome. I love this place. It's absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to go back!

  • This cabin is beyond adorable. The setting is gorgeous, green as far as the eye can see. Liz had everything set up for us, beds made, clean towels, spices and kitchen basics, boardgames and movies, and even some nice bathroom things like bath salts and beard balm! We had a group of two couples and a solo traveler and we loved the space. We so enjoyed the cabin and Liz could not have made it easier to know exactly what to expect! She communicated with us every step of the way and made sure we had everything we needed, which was nice to have as travelers who had never been to Oregon before!

  • The Farm Retreat is nothing less than magical. You really feel like you’ve stepped back in time while staying in this 1900s farmhouse, secluded from the world with gorgeous views of the mountains. Liz was such a wonderful host and made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this house to any family, couple, or group of friends wanting to escape the city and have a rustic getaway. While you’re there, make sure to cozy up next to the wood burning stove, take a bath in the claw-foot tub, and star gaze at the top of the hill. You might even catch a couple shooting stars...

    Courtney2018-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a private getaway not too far off the beaten path, the Rec Ranch is a gem. Very secluded and quiet with views of the Columbia river through the trees. The whole place screams cabin in the woods, but with tasteful furniture and artwork to make it feel 'civilized'! We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend retreat here padding around in pajamas, stoking the woodstove, playing guitar and making good food in the well equipped kitchen. Look forward to coming back again when the weather is warmer to take advantage of the beautiful patio area with wood fired oven, built in bbq, and fire pit.

    Andrew2017-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice old farm house with a good view of the Columbia River and Mt Hood in the distance. The house was very clean but definitely not fancy. It was a quiet and comfortable stay. It lacked some amenities like a DVD (apparently stolen by a past renter) and a walk in shower, although a creative retrofit is found in the basement. The house was well-stocked and the bed was comfy. My wife and I liked the place but felt that the price was a bit much for what was offered. Our total cost/night was $190. Ouch.

    David2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • The farmhouse retreat is an absolute gem. Everything it boasts it delivers: a true "off the grid" retreat where you will feel cozy and warm but definitely connected to nature, gorgeous views, lovely spaces both indoor and outdoor. One of my favorite things: every little detail is meticulously curated for you--whether the outside space, from the firepit to the landscaping, from the clearing on the hill, to the orientation of the space to the view of the Columbia River; or the indoor space, from the beautifully stocked kitchen inviting you to indulge your gourmet sensibilities against a charming, rustic backdrop, to the art that graces the walls of every room and narrates to the careful eye the family history that animates the home, you will feel beautifully taken care of while free of any interruption by maintenance or host. Cherry on top of the sundae? Well stoked fires, both inside and out, waiting for us when we arrived. Overall, this place is magical.

  • Probably one of the greatest Airbnb experiences I’ve ever had. Liz was the best host from beginning of booking to departure. The property was incredible and i can only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer. Fireplace was nice to cuddle in front of, and the hubby and i really appreciate how dog friendly Liz was for our fur babies. Strongly encourage everyone to stay here and enjoy the serenity and adventure the place has to offer.

  • This was my first stay with Airbnb and what a great experience! Genre's place is beautiful and I felt welcome and at home! Linda was there to host while Renee was out of town. Both of them were very organized and helpful from start to finish. Renee's mom's gorgeous artwork fills every space of this unique and lovely home. If you share an appreciation for art, history, and culture, you will especially enjoy this museum style Airbnb filled with amazing Native American heritage-rich art! The log home is situated high on the hill and provides a stunning panoramic view of the Columbia River and surrounding mountain views. I loved the quiet, peaceful setting and appreciated the location which allowed me to continue my travels with easy access as I headed out to explore Mt St Helens and Mt Ranier National Park. Thank you for a great stay!

  • What a pleasant surprise it was staying at Renee's very unique cabin in the hills overlooking the Columbia River. Renee and her friend and her dogs greeted me as I drove up to her place. What a cool place. Fantastic Native American decor throughout the cabin. Renee's friendly dog, Mija kept me company during my stay. I was invited for dinner (Chicken and Dumplings) at Renee's Uncle's house next door, and had a nice visit there. I will definetely be returning.

This is a 350sqft handmade cabin in the woods with Columbia River views. Includes a living room with a large pullout Ikea couch/bed. We are located 20 minutes from Longview, WA and 40 miles from Astoria. The space is perfect for someone who wants to get away from city life, gain an inspiration from minimalist living, unwind and just enjoy nature without any distractions.
Our condo has a loft and for safety reasons, we prefer that families with children are extra cautious. Best for no more then 4 people.

  • Maria and Mitchell's home is a very cozy and peaceful getaway! Their home is even more special because they built it with their own hands and it is beautifully detailed. We enjoyed the experience of staying in their tiny house. This is quite a bargain, especially compared to other homes in the area. The location itself is not a destination (Clatskanie is not too much to write home about), but if you are after a cozy getaway to unwind and unplug then this is perfect!

Furnished riverfront long term rental AND vacation home in Columbia River boating, fishing and nature viewing area. A favorite Seattle-Portland weekend escape. Convenient for Wauna, Longview, Port Westward temporary local work crews. Boat ramp-dock. All water sports. Internet. DirectTV, Netflix. Lovely views of Mt. St. Helens; NO INDOOR PETS. Special work week prices available for commuters. NEED A LARGER PLACE? See our Sportsman Family Retreat house which sleeps/feeds 15 guests.
The house is fully equipped with all clean linens and hotel type toiletries upon arrival. Daily made service is not provided but available. A full kitchen is provided including many of the condiments you might need. Check our stock of ketchup, mustard, steak and fish seasoning, spices, olive oil and mayo type condiments before bringing your own. People tend to leave what they don't need there for the next group. But the local Safeway grocery is only 10 minutes in Clatskanie and open until 11:00PM. The fourth bed is a queen pull out in the den room. The deck is great for: entertaining with a gas barbecue, toasting the sunsets, or watching the waterfowl and eagles. Life jackets and a few fishing poles are available. This is our Columbia river guest house which has never had a permanent resident since new, but we would love to share it with you. Secluded but only, 1 hr from Portland Airport and 45+ min to (URL HIDDEN) historic Astoria Oregon, and Washington beach and coastal towns, for day trips. Weekenders from Seattle really enjoy a few days of escape here. NO INDOOR PETS.
This is a rare rural-farm neighborhood area on the lower Columbia where the homes are total river front without crossing a road to get to the river. Your dock starts 30 feet from the house front door. Paved roads are available for country biking (but no bike lanes), and you can hiking within our 100 acres of foothill timberland providing outstanding views.
  • This home is amazing! We hit traffic and arrived later than expected and James checked in to make sure that we were okay and weren't having issues finding the home. The home is beautiful and the views are breath taking. We has a perfect get away. A great job was done decorating the home. I can't wait till plan another trip.

  • Great property, on the water, nice house; we always rate a place based on could we live here, this one passed that test easily. The description was accurate, the property was clean, and the there were many little extras. If you want quiet and a river this is the place.

  • If you are looking for a GREAT place to stay or fish this is it James is one of the best host I have ever had! Well worth it. Great views of Mt. Saint Helen and easy access to the Columbia's main channel. Again James thank you for everything. Rick

  • This is an amazing place! We loved the access to the river, the big yard, large comfortable bedrooms, and beautiful artwork throughout the home. James was very attentive, and gave us some good tips about the river and its many moods. I brought my paddleboard and my son and his friend fished off the dock (they didn't catch anything, but they had a great time trying!) There is the town center about 15 minutes away to get groceries. We didn't eat out, because we were so happy just hanging out at the house, so we grilled a lot and ate in. We had everything we needed, and we'll definitely come back, but will plan to stay a little longer.

    Heather2016-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time! The home was perfect and our host James was always available to answer questions. Shared a Blessed Christmas with my wife and children, can't wait to do it again. Thank you James

  • This place is BEAUTIFUL! I decided on James place because of the view but honestly the pictures don't do the views justice. The whole house was immaculate and super clean. James checked in periodically to make sure we were comfortable. We only stayed two nights but it is an experience we will not soon forget.

    Ruth2017-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent unit, picture perfect, astonishing views, quiet and so close to nature. Yet, the shops are just some 10 minutes away. We are a family of 5 adults and 2 kids and we really enjoyed the 3 nights at this property. We also thoroughly enjoyed some fishing at the river at the back of the house. The house is warm and bright, very clean and well designed. The kitchen is very well equipped. James is an excellent host and he responded to our msg very quickly and kept giving us suggestions on what to do or where to go. We will recommend to friends and we would certainly want to come back.

The Little House on the Hill was built from pallet wood by my uncle over 20 years ago. It has about 300 sq. ft. of usable space. Decor is Native American. Rustic feel with relative privacy. Access to washer/dryer, wi-fi in main house. Can hear creek in gully over the hill. Enjoy the possibility of seeing a pair of eagles soar overhead, or hummingbirds coming to feed. Fun little getaway to get back to the simple things!
Within six miles of Woodland or Kalama, WA. About 45 minute drive from Portland Oregon. Within a couple hour!s drive to Mount St. Helens.
  • Renee is very welcoming & made sure I felt at home. Her Little House was perfect for my short stay overnight before exploring Mt. St. Helens. I will absolutely stay here again the next time I visit the area. I was the first guest to stay at this listing & Renee was putting together the last touches for me so that it would be ready for the date I needed a place to stay. I was very grateful for this and can only imagine the place will become even more cozy as she adds finishing touches. The only issue was a small leak in the sink, which she showed me and in no way affected my stay. I had everything I needed in the Little House, including towels, coffee & a French press for the morning, and Fleetwood Mac CDs!

Road tripping through western Washington or Oregon? We are just a hop & skip off Interstate 5 at exit 30. Join us for a comfy, relaxing reprieve from your travels. You can kick-up your feet inside and enjoy the view, or stretch your legs with a walk around Kalama and our newly renovated riverfront park & marina. Check out the worlds tallest Totem Pole ... carved from a single tree! If you are traveling through the area by train, we'd be happy to pick you up at the train station in Kelso.
The front stairway leads up one flight to where the bedrooms are located to the left, and the kitchen/family room is to the right. There are plenty of books, games, binoculars (river watching) and a large flat-screen TV with blue-ray player and access to an Amazon Fire TV player. There is also a CD player and a large selection of CD's. There is wi-fi available and USB chargers in case you forgot yours.
Kalama was first settled by Native Americans, particularly members of the Cowlitz Indian Tribes. The first white settler recorded was in 1853. In early 1870, Northern Pacific Railway scouts came to Cowlitz County to find an ideal terminus along the Columbia River.
  • Karna and Dwayne provided a stunning and cozy place to stay on a rainy fall night! We were greeted with a friendly smile and homemade cookies to stay in the beautifully decorated guest quarters which provided a gorgeous view of the river, and an amazing stock of movies, music, coffee, and tea. Their home is an ideal place to stay that is within walking distance of downtown Kalama. We would recommend this place to anyone and we hope to stay there again!

  • What a lovely, comfortable, clean place. Really exceeded our expectations and we would have loved to stay longer. We stayed the night before climbing Mt St Helens and it was a great place to get a good nights sleep! Karna & Dwayne were great hosts and super easy to communicate with. Highly recommend their place!

  • I cannot say enough good things about our stay at the Kalama Whitehouse. The place is clean, stylishly decorated, very comfortable and stocked with all necessary amenities. We were able to cook delicious meals in the kitchen, sit comfortably in the den and sleep soundly at night on the very comfortable king-sized mattress. The place would easily accommodate two couples/a family of four. While the space is comfortable, it is Karna and Dwayne that makes this Airbnb truly special. They are wonderful and truly gracious hosts. From the beginning, when they greeted us with fresh baked cookies, until when we checked out, they were responsive, friendly, accommodating and willing to answer all our questions. We stayed for an extended period and over a holiday, and they made us feel like we were at home and staying with family, always going above and beyond. They even let our kitties stay with us! The warm welcome we received from Karna and Dwayne made our stay and I would definitely stay again. Don't hesitate to book at the Kalama Whitehouse!

They do a fantastic job with amenities and keeping the space very clean. It was such a cozy and peaceful stay we didn't want to leave!

    Cortney2018-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Plenty of space in the home, convenient location to the interstate. Hosts were easy to communicate with and made me feel at home. You will hear trains, boats, and cars if you have the windows open; at night with the windows closed it wasn't an issue at all. I definitely recommend staying here.

    Gary2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! Attention to detail..Love it. Dwayne is a super host, Karna was under the weather so we didn't have the pleasure of meeting her, next time. The king bed was very cozy, and comfortable. Homemade chocolate chip, coconut cookies were definitely a treat. It was a true pleasure staying at Karna & Dwayne's place!

Narrow mountain road to the property. Queen Memory Foam bed in main cabin and Double Futon in loft area. (If you are going to be using the loft you will need to bring your own bedding). Small refrigerator. Running cold water in bathroom area with porta-a-potty in the cabin and an outhouse in the parking area. Beautiful View from inside and from the covered front and side porches. Fire wheel in the parking area for a campfire (except when outdoor burning is banned). No Smoking or Cooking inside the cabin.
  • This little cabin is quite remote - around a 20 minute drive from the nearest store, so make sure you bring everything you'll need. The cabin is located on Dwight and Linda's property on the hill above their house. Despite being pretty close to both the main house and a trailer occupied by their friend, the cabin still feels private. The space is clean and feels nice inside. The mattress is quite soft so if that's a dealbreaker for you, be warned. There are plenty of pillows though they do smell faintly of cigarette smoke, maybe from being stored in a smoking house? There is a little camping toilet in the cabin so you don't have to go outside to pee at night. There is a sink with cold running water. The outhouse right behind the cabin is very clean and odor-free. Inside the cabin, the woodstove warms the space really well - the place was very toasty once I got the fire going in the morning. Don't expect to boil water on the stove though - it's possible but it takes almost an hour even when the stove is really hot. The little portable grill provided on the porch is also not a great option. I tried to boil water on it and it never got hot enough. In fact, I even just tried grilling some vegetables and didn't get hot enough to leave char marks on them. I ended up driving into Kelso and buying a camping stove. There's wooded property up behind the trailer that you can explore but there are no trials so I didn't go too far for fear of getting lost. The whole rest of the area is clearly marked as private property and it seems like people take their privacy pretty seriously out there. Not a lot of places to walk nearby. The Kalama river is a 10 minute drive from the cabin and does have some sweet little spots for fishing or just enjoying the river. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the cabin but wouldn't go back due to the price.

  • The cabin and hospitality were wonderful! Great way to escape the city with a cozy place to stay after you enjoy nature by a fire. Couldn’t have found a more perfect spot, wish we could have stayed longer.

    Laura2018-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a great cabin in the woods! We thought this was a super cool space and so impressed to find out that they've built it themselves! The views were stunning. There was plenty of wood provided for the stove which kept us warm all night (we did have to get up once to add logs, which was expected). Wish we could've stayed longer! ***Some of the roads leading to the cabin are narrow and winding, so I would be prepared for this before you arrive. I was glad to have completed the drive during daylight.

    Dana2018-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was not quite the secluded getaway we were hoping for. The wood in the cabin was beautiful but as a whole the structure needs finishing. The area is stunning but not private feeling. We also had a few frustrations regarding cleanliness. We loved the wood burning stove and Dwight was very helpful when we arrived. Thank you for providing a pet-friendly space! We would love to come back if some of these issues were addressed!

  • Charming. Beautiful. Affordable. The cabin worked perfect for the 4 of us adult, and 2 dogs! The wood stove kept us warm through the night. The porch provided and excellent view. A highly recommended stay.

  • Great secluded location! I highly recommend it for a nice weekend away.

    Sean2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • This small cabin is a sweet little hidden gem only an hour away from Portland. My partner and I went for a short spring break getaway with our dog. Dwight and Linda's place is quiet and secluded, with great views. Linda answered all my questions quickly. The cabin is far enough from the main house for plenty of privacy. The wood-burning stove kept us nice and warm all night. Amenities like a small propane barbecue, a firepit, and hot chocolate and hand towels were all appreciated. We couldn't find much to do in the area, but the cabin itself was comfy enough to just spend time there drinking and reading and watching movies. We had a great mini retreat. Note that there is a winding, narrow, one-lane country road to get there, so make sure to make the trip in daylight!

  • My inner child came out, loved this cabin.

  • What a great little oasis on the river! It has everything you could want on your vacation. It is close to shopping, ocean beaches, and downtown Portland (by car), yet in the serene, quiet country. We woke up to fresh eggs from the chicken coop every morning and finished our days with family dinners I made in the well equipped kitchen. We visited the ocean, Portland, and Tillamook, OR during our stay. We floated the river, too! It was the perfect getaway for our family and dog.😊🐶

  • Beautiful cottage in a woundful wooded area. We had our children over and all had a wonderful time.

  • This place is right on the river. The hosts are very nice people, great kitchen and living area and it has a garage.

  • Fantastic place to stay. It was everything the host posted. We were so busy we did not see our host much. Thank you for sharing your lovely place..

  • If you are looking for peace and nature Edith's place is the right place for you. It was a perfect base for our visit to Mt. St. Helens Observatory and for our climbing of Mt. St. Helens from Climber's Bivouac. It is just in the middle. It is a very nice, clean, well-stocked house in Kalama. Maybe we were too tired to see the bald eagle, but we enjoyed the view of a humming bird at the living room window while having breakfast and the joyful flight of swallows all around the house. Edith is a perfect host and she gifted us with some fresh and delicious eggs. She informed us that she is going to list a property in Hawaii. We cannot wait. Thank you. Claudio and Sandra

  • We enjoyed our stay in the cottage. We liked the setting and the quietness. The high ceilings in the cottage are nice. Everything in the cottage works well (including the internet connection) and directly walking into the cottage from the garage works well with the snow. Edith and Ernesto accommodated our needs and ensured that our stay was pleasant.

Our cozy little cabin is on Silver Lake, not far off of Spirit Lake Highway, on the way up to Mt. St. Helens. It is a mixture of rustic, starting its life as a very simple fishing cabin, and dash of luxury, having been recently remodeled. The view from the front porch is lovely looking across the road to the lake. Spend your days hiking, exploring the mountain or the quaint towns of Toutle and Castle Rock, fishing on the premier bass fishing lake in the Pacific Northwest.
We added many fun unique aspects when we remodeled: a cozy pellet stove insert in the field stone fireplace for warmth (pellets provided), phosphorous in the hardwood floor which glows in the dark, a solid live-edge slab of Pacific Northwest Douglas Fir as the eating bar, sliding barn doors, a 1947 vintage electric stove, a reading cubby stocked with books, puzzles, games, movies, bathroom with a vintage buffet vanity covered in pennies with a glass vessel sink and a shower that includes copper slate tile, marble base and seat, frameless glass enclosure and four shower heads. The front porch is adorned with massive log posts for supports. We still have plans to add an outdoor kitchen and work on landscaping. Side note: We use our cabin ourselves and then rent it on AirBnB when we can. We do not operate multiple vacation home rentals as a business. We manage this ourselves on the side. We strive to make it a warm, clean, cozy space for our renters and continue to learn from our experiences and our renters.
There is plenty to do in the foothills of Mt. St. Helens: hiking, biking, fishing, boating, cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing... Exploring all of the wonders of the beautiful Pacific Northwest... I recommend looking through the website (URL HIDDEN) to get a good overview of the area. I have included more links below for other points of interest. The cabin is in a rural neighborhood that is a mixture of resort (not the fancy kind) and country living. Most of our neighbors live in their homes full time. We know all of the neighbors and have good relationships with them. They know that we are renting on AirBnB when we are not using the cabin and look out for the cabin and our renters. Being in a lightly populated forested area, it is important to remember that we share this area with lots of other creatures big and small (some very very small and annoying). Please be extra careful on your drive up keeping watch for deer especially at dawn and dusk. When we bought the cabin in July 2014, it came with a dog. Jake was an old yellow lab. He had an owner who lived a few blocks away but Jake preferred to live on his own terms. I always think of Frank Sinatra singing "I'll Do It My Way." Jake liked to hang on our front porch. He also spent a lot of time in the next door neighbor's house that we share our driveway with. He liked to sleep under the bushes of the house across the street too. Sometimes, he just slept in the middle of the street. Luckily, most of the neighbors knew to watch for him. Jake had cancer and we knew his time was limited. He was the Neighborhood Watch, often barking in the middle of the night to the dismay of those trying to sleep. We all tried to take care of him as much as he would let us. Next door neighbors were gifted an old love seat that they put in their house just for Jake so that he would have someplace warm and dry during the winter. We put an old dog bed on the front porch for him, but he usually preferred an old tarp that was on the ground. In August 2015, a woman visiting the neighborhood accidentally ran over him while backing out of a driveway. We all decided together that it was time and half-dozen neighbors went with him for his final ride taking his favorite blanket and toy. We held a memorial for him Memorial Day 2015 with about 20 neighbors showing up with potluck dishes. Jake was cremated and his ashes were sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. His picture is on our mantel along with a box that contains a small glass ornament made with some of his ashes. This is a neighborhood of good-hearted people... If you happen to see an old yellow lab jogging behind a car going past the cabin, that is Jake's sister who still lives up the road.
  • OMG! Where do I begin? The kitchen was fully stocked with every tool a cook could need. The only thing I needed was a zester, so that speaks volumes because we are great cooks. They even had cake pans. The stove is a 1940's brand and my husband The Master bedroom was quaint and super comfy. My husband is 6'4 and he was super comfortable so that speaks wonders. The bathroom was too die for. We were able to both shower. Which means neither person had to wait for the other to finish to rinse or whatever. We mostly cuddled on the couch in the main room and watched Netflix and Hulu. Basic cable, but I haven't had cable in over 10 years. There were movies and board games and I was able to sneak in a book. (Avid reader here. JD Robb titles everywhere). This place was super amazing. The furnace pumped out heat and I can't complain that the house only reached 65-degrees in 25-degree weather. We came in the death of winter. We were new to Washington and wanted a place that would give us snow and intimacy. Our 2nd Anniversary was by far the best vacation we have taken in our 5 years of traveling. We will most certainly come back whether it be winter weather or summer, this was the best place to come as a couple to just enjoy each other. Our phone service sucked, but there was WiFi. It was iffy, but we came to rid ourselves of friends and family. At this point, we feel we couldn't have chosen a better place to visit. The place oozed home upon first walking in. You can tell the love and dedication that went into creating and maintaining this space. Our host were always accessible and even check in us when the weather turned. WE WILL MOST CERTAINLY RETURN. REBECCA AND MAVERICK WERE THE BEST. KUDOS, ON AN AWESOME PLACE.

  • The hosts were great for our first experience. Everything was self explanatory so we didn't need to communicate too often. The place was so cozy and perfect for a night away from the city. The house was well stocked with everything we needed to make meals, play games, watch movies, lounge and enjoy our weekend.

    Chacie2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place was even better than we anticipated. It's cozy and comfortable, in a beautiful scenic location, with a pretty view of the lake across the street. We were greeted with a friendly wave from the driveway-sharing neighbor. The interior space is warm and inviting, from the generously comfortable furnishings (cloud-like pillowtop queen bed, comfy couch and chairs, and the reading nook/bed was a BIG draw for this family of book-lovers) to the artistic and tasteful decor. We had never seen a glow-in-the-dark effect on a wood floor, or a counter surfaced with pennies, and I had never used the kind of old Admiral stove/oven I've always admired in pictures but wondered about re. modern functionality. (I used both the range and the oven, and they worked perfectly.) There were helpful notes provided about how everything worked. It's also a good location for both summer and winter activities that we didn't even begin to scratch the surface of. Toward the end of our stay, we paid tribute to neighborhood dog Jake with a toast, and one of our kids commented, "This feels like home," which is the best compliment. A wonderful memory-making place and we'd love to come again.

  • Great cozy get away for the weekend! Nice, quiet neighborhood. Just what we were long for :)

    Serena2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Hosts were great about everything. Cabin was cozy. Overall, it is a very quiet rural area. About an hour drive to Mt. Saint Helens. Be super careful on the road that goes to and from Saint Helens. Deer are crossing all the time. Don't speed and please leave space between cars. We almost hit four deer in one day. Also, came close to being rear ended because of it.

  • We had great stay. Maverick was a great host to drive out in bad weather to get the pellet stove working after boatloads of rain had fallen! Thanks for sweet stay!

  • We had a wonderful stat in Rebecca's cabin! The space is more spacious than it looks in the pictures. A lot of space to hang out and relax, and a large kitchen to cook. Rebecca was super responsive too!

The Hideaway is located along the Columbia River in a Rural setting just one mile from the Willow Grove Boat Launch and Beach access. The home was built in 1903 and the land was originally used as a dairy farm. Now it sits on just five acres of garden, foliage, and pasture. I have bikes that can be used to ride the 6 mile loop of charming farmland or to the beach just a mile away where there is a park and a short bike path.
This is a nice place to stay along the way to the coast only an hour and a half to either Astoria Oregon or Long Beach Washington, both routes are a beautiful drive.
My place is surrounded by beautiful farmland and sits just across from the Columbia River, the room has a beautiful view of the river. It’s a bird watchers paradise.

We will definitely stay here the next time we are in town. Thanks Jennifer!

  • We had a wonderful stay by the river in Kalama. The house is not far from town and easy to get to but feels private and quaint. My daughter loved playing with and feeding the goats! The house was very comfortable, the bed was super comfy and the sheets were so soft! The kitchen was well equipped, there were lots of options for bedding and the recent remodel was all very well done. We will definitely stay again when it is time for another family visit!

  • Abe’s place was a perfect spot for my husband & I for our night in the Mount Saint Helen area. Comfortable bed, cozy linens and plenty of towels..., I am happy to recommend his place to other travelers. FYI - For those traveling to see Mount Saint Helens & the Johnston Ridge Observatory, be aware of winter closures. Even though we had 80 degree days the observatory was not due to open for another week or so. The visitor center was excellent & we were able to get in a few short hikes.

  • Jayna was very welcoming and hospitable. She was very accessible. Her suite is very spacious and comfortable. We would recommend this place and will highly consider it should we ever return to the area!

  • Wow, what a perfect Airbnb experience. Due to classic PNW weather and traffic, my wife and I were running more than 3 hours late. Jayna was quick to accommodate us when we finally arrived and I’m glad that we chose her place to stay. The room was warm, private and comfortable. The bathroom was also very nice and stocked with travel size items in case you forgot something. Overall would recommend 5/5 times because Jayna is dope and her spot is sick

  • Jayna has created a welcoming, beautiful, relaxing retreat. She was great with staying in communication with me, I highly recommend staying here. I can't wait for my next visit!

  • The AirBnB is quiet, cozy, inviting and warm. Jayna lives in a quiet neighborhood. My pups and I enjoyed a walk around the neighborhood when we arrived but I think they enjoyed the fenced backyard even more! My pups slept in crates and I completely passed out in the comfortable bed. I was their for a dog event so having easy access to town was a must as the hours are long. Thank you for being a wonderful host! Cheryl, Cooper and Sammie Mae

  • Privacy was key. :-). Communication was good. Overall quietness of neighbourhood was awesome. Easy access to the shopping areas. I gave 5 stars but think 10 is better. Jayne was great and it was nice to meet someone who grew up where I did. Check out was easy.

  • There is just one word for night at Jayna's home: perfect! Unfortunately we missed each other but check-in worked great and Jayna really thought of every detail. This riverside retreat is a nature lover's dream. With sleeping capacity for 8, it's large enough for the whole family, yet cozy enough for a romantic getaway. Located directly beside the beautiful Kalama River, you can enjoy a soak in the hot tub while listening to the river roll past, or curl up by the wood-burning stove after a long day of kayaking, fishing, or hiking glorious Mt St. Helens. Far enough from the crowds to feel remote, yet close enough to spend the day enjoying Portland's vibrant city life or a day exploring the Pacific coast. With an abundance of natural sunlight, large open floor plan, and a cooking show worthy kitchen this home is perfect for your next getaway! Friendly four-legged friends are warmly welcomed!
Home is located in a beautiful valley, surrounded by open space. Activities that can be enjoyed on the premises incude: nature walks, fishing, boating/kayaking/tubing and playing on the open lawn. There is a backstop for baseball/softball. There is a new park with tennis courts and playing fields just a mile down the road. Also, there is a great park next to the Columbia River with beaches, picnic areas, and a paved trail for running. The Town of Kalama is a few miles away and has great antique shops, groceries, and your choice of great Mexican, Chinese and Continental restaurants. The Columbia Inn hosts a popular karaoke night on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
  • This house was wonderful for our needs - we were visiting family in the area for the holidays. It had plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and such a huge open space with the kitchen into the dining into living rooms. It was perfect for playing games, cooking great food and enjoying our time together. We are definitely going to keep this home in mind for future trips, it’s an excellent middle of the road for our families living in WA and OR states. Very nice too with the weather to have the option of utilizing the garage! And our pets were welcomed, what more can we ask for!? The ladies were so awesome when we needed help and just overall accommodating! The chickens and goats were a fun aspect too that I was able to show my young son up close and personal!! Though we didn’t get to do too much outdoors, this would be so perfect in the warmer months with the river pretty much in the yard, large outdoor spaces with tables and the hot tub. Again, we really appreciated the home and location (especially for such a fantastic deal!!) - Tiffany B. & family

  • This home is luxurious and located at a beautiful spot right on the river. It’s quiet and secluded which is exactly what we love. If we visited in summer we would have taken advantage of the amazing patio areas outside. Edith was super friendly, easy to deal with and let us check in early! Would stay again for sure if back in the area.

  • Great spot on the river, nice place, Edith was great to deal with.

  • Edirh's place is SO awesome! The house is beautiful and comfortable and the location 2 miles from I5, 1 hour from Portland, and right on the Kalama River is perfect! It's our favorite family reunion airbnb so far and much easier than going up to Mr Hood in the winter. The kitchen/ livingroom area is huge. Plenty of room for everyone. And it's such a quiet and beautiful area. Everyone in the family wants to go back in the summer. Also, if you are a drift boat fisher-person or like to fish from the bank, it's the place to be!

  • We rented Ediths place for our family Christmas/New years get together. We are all coming from long distances and it is important to me for it to be the most relaxing fun time possible. Ediths home provided this! The hot tub was great in the evenings while listening to the river go by, ping pong is always great for laughs, with plenty of room so no one feels cramped. The kitchen was delightful! I loved having so much space to cook with 5 large gas burners and 2 ovens!! Cooking Christmas dinner has never been so easy and enjoyable. We had a couple minor hiccups but Ediths caretaker Azure was extremely prompt in her replies and always available. The home is about 2 miles out of town so it was extremely quiet, but still close enough for a quick store run if needed. Be sure to check out the Antique Stores in Kalama as well as a short jaunt to Battle Ground!. Definitely eat at Barrel Mountain Brewing in Battleground!! A little pricey but the food was to die for, not to mention the place is just plain fun :) Thanks so much Edith for allowing us to use your home!

  • Calvins place is truly a hidden gem. It is in the bottom of his store and very cozy with a big bed and a lot of comfy chairs and couches. He was very helpful and accommodating too. Hope to visit again.

  • Calvin's friend Matt is the one who came to show us around, he was full of advices and extremely available, excellent hospitality!

  • Calvin’s place and hospitality were great. Anyone looking for a great place I highly recommend. Calvin has a store above the unit with most of the stuff one would need. Calvin’s as cool as his place! Didn’t get a chance to try his famous tacos that’s on the to do list next time. Thanks again!

  • My BF wanted to go out of town for a couple of days to work and relax. The space at Calvin's was eccentric and warm. I felt right at home. Being downstairs from a store was actually very much a positive as we had lunch and dinner which Calvin made and they were both so yummy. Calvin was very warm and inviting and I would definitely stay another time at his home. It definitely felt homey.

GET AWAY FROM IT ALL! This is a cozy, quiet home in a country setting located just 2 miles off I-5, 1 hour from Mt St. Helens, 1 1/2 hours from Mt Rainier or the beautiful Pacific Coast. There is a fenced yard, wood stove, fishing nearby on the Cowlitz River, walking trails, lots of wild life, beaver pond and awesome trees and plant life to enjoy. It is a great spot to spend a few days or just stop over if you are traveling down I-5 between Seattle Wa. and Portland, Oregon.
  • Excellent place to stay when you want to visit St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. If you arrive after sunset, notice that there is no street lights.

  • Very convenient to Mt St Helen. Great unique and clean home. Merry was extremely hospitable.

  • Nice place. Clean inside but lot of flies outside the house. Nearest grocery store is 10 miles away so make sure you stock up.

  • Beaver Pond was the PERFECT place to stay on our way to Mt. St. Helen's. The quiet, peaceful atmosphere and our wonderful hostess, Merri, made it a trip to remember. We'll definitely stay here again!

  • Merry was very inviting and welcomed us as soon as we arrived. She is very sweet. The space is as it is portrayed in her posting. I recommend staying here.

  • Our experience at the Beaver Pond was excellent! The house was very clean and welcoming. Merry and her husband were great hosts. We really enjoyed hiking around the beaver pond and saw Nutrias (look like a beaver) while walking. The location provides good access to Mount St Helen's. Would definitely come back and recommend!
