Less than 60 seconds from the Interstate and also offers plenty of room to walk the dog. This 3.5 acre property allows easy access to the Washington Capital (DC) for site seeing and then escape to the country for relaxation. Virginia Gold Cup is around the corner. You are also within 1 mile of a walking park, dry cleaning, grocery, ABC liquor, & bank. Main St. Marshall offers several very nice bakeries and restaurants. Limited neighbors to distract you.
Lots of outdoor space and privacy. Come and go and you wish. Your own private driveway and house.
The neighbor across the street in the yellow house is very friendly. I am your neighbor across the pond. So enjoy your privacy and your comfort. You can ride your bike in the country or go into the "one light" town for some nice dining.

  • When we found this place so close to the Great Meadows Polo match we were thrilled! In spite of steady rain this birthday weekend was great. Plenty of room for everyone! Kitchen was well stocked. The enclosed porch with picnic table/bench AND comfortable sitting area. And the little shops in Marshal were amazing!

  • This was our first airbnb experience and joseph's house in the plains made it better than we imagined! 3 spacious bedrooms and a big kitchen. We mostly enjoyed the screened in patio that was furnished and very spacious for relaxing and enjoying the weather. Joseph was very quick to respond to our texts and to reach out if we needed anything. Thanks for a great first experience Joseph!

At the end of the road in the country. Very private with lots of trails to walk. Joy & Rich are in the main house. The cottage has a front porch, back porch and patio, all private from the main house. Far from any roads it is above all, peaceful. You are free to wander around 150 acres, sit by the pond or the fire pit on the back patio. This is wine country, horse country and hiking country. Great taverns and restaurants are scattered in the small towns around us. Every season is unique.
Smoking is allowed outside on the porches, pets may be considered with prior coordination
  • We had a wonderful stay at the Rockhaven Farm cottage! Joy and Richard are very friendly and accommodating hosts! They had arranged a gift basket for our rival with wine, nuts cookies and fruit, a nice  welcoming touch after our 6 hour drive from North Carolina! Rockhaven Farm is located on a former working farm in the country and the setting is lovely with  gorgeous views. The cottage is modern and has everything you need including beautiful modern bathrooms. Every inch of the house was sparkling clean! The kitchen had all the appliances we needed to make meals,  and also included condiments,  tea and coffee. As the closest store is about 15 min away it's good to plan ahead and buy some groceries on the way out there.  We will happily come back next time we visit Vieginia and are more than happy to recommend this house to our friends and family!

  • Wonderful home. Exactly as described. Fully stocked with everything you need for a perfect getaway. Comfortable and relaxing. Beautiful views. Warm, welcoming and accommodating hosts. A little off the beaten path.

  • This is a very pleasant, calm and has beautiful views all around the home. The home is very clean, with thought full touches which will impress you a lot. Rich has made our trip very comfortable and his wife is very generous. Such a beautiful home with lake in front to sit and enjoy the sun. The beds very comfortable and they have provided all the kitchen equipment you can think of. The place is valued very bit of your penny. Will be definitely be back and will enjoy the sun rise from his porch through the mountains.

    Charan2018-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • I visited the cottage with a group of six friends. Everything was great! The cottage was bigger than I expected, with more than enough space for all of us. All three beds were comfortable with lots of warm blankets for the chilly weather. The location is very quiet and remote, but it was still convenient enough for us to make trips to Shenandoah and a local winery during our stay. The cabin is pretty far from any stores so we brought a lot of food with us, but the kitchen has plenty of storage, prep space, and cookware for a great cookout with friends. There's also lots of outdoor space with a front and back porch to sit and enjoy the fresh air -- and a beautiful pond, too! The WiFi is a bit slow, but the connection is still good enough to get messages, search directions, etc. Rich and Joy were so helpful answering all of our questions and were great hosts. Thank you!

    Bethany2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Richard and Joy's place is a wonderful place to stay! Very clean and beautiful scenery around the home. If you want to get away from it all it would be a wonderful place to stay.

    Anita2018-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in as beautiful and serene a place as described. Joy and Richard were very helpful hosts and the place was perfect for our stay.

    Sam2018-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Richard and Joy’s Rockhaven Farm is incredible. We loved our girls weekend getaway. They were both so welcoming and accommodating. The place was immaculately clean and incredibly well stocked. They gave us a beautiful welcome basket and fresh eggs in the morning. The grounds were beautiful and they provided a very helpful house manual with suggestions to the surrounding area. The kitchen is very well stocked if you plan to stay in and cook. The rooms are very comfortable. Richard and Joy are friendly, accommodating and very easy to communicate with. They went above and beyond and are even helping return and item we left behind. I would highly recommend a stay at their beautiful property!

    Alicia2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • We have ABnB'd all over the east coast. This was a fantastic rental. We were looking for a few quiet nights out in the country, and Richard and Joy's farm cottage was a perfect spot. The photos on ABnB don't do justice to the beauty of the place. If you are looking for some quiet/peaceful time in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, you won't be disappointed.

The Grotos Grove is a destination by itself and serves a very convenient base of operations to experience the regions many activities/events with Blue Valley and Barrel Oak Vineyards only ¼ mile away.   The house was completely restored in 2016-17 with large modern kitchen, and 3 full baths and 2 half baths;  2 master bedrooms, 2 bedrooms and a loft. One of Washington's top interior decorators furnished the home specifically with the idea of group/family use while maintaining its historic charm.
The Grove is located in Delaplane where John Marshall, the former United States Supreme Court Chief Justice who grew up at Oak Hill Mansion next door. The Grove was actually built by John Marshall for his sister.  The town of Marshall (just five minutes away) is named after the former Chief Justice. The historic and popular towns of Middleburg, Warrenton, Paris and Upperville are all easy 15-20 minute drives.   The Grove can truly be your home away from home with all the comforts and quality, no more hotels who are regular visitors to the area! Please note that the Grove is located near I66 traffic can be heard. The house is quiet with it's stone walls. The positive is that you are just off the service road and fast travel to the vineyards and town of Marshall and great for cyclists as you are immediately along one of popular routes according to Potomac Pedalers.          Fauquier County is among the finest horse country in Virginia. Some of the most beautiful farms in the county are nearby. The Orange County hunt, sometimes comes in sight of the town when hunting foxes. It is not uncommon to see horse trailers and vans parked on Main Street of Marshall. Hounds and horses abound in this area.  However it is also a great place for writers, actors politicians and other well known people to live quietly and anonymously.   As a result, there are many new restaurants and local butcher’s, bakers and markets establishments to enjoy year round.       In addition the home sits on 10 private acres to include a nice hiking/running trail around the perimeter.  The kitchen and the dinning area are designed for great gatherings and there’s a nice patio out the side to enjoy the agricultural setting of the area and boasts a nice fire pit.  The large high ceiling living room is perfect for events such as private recitals, acting and story telling and yes even watching sporting events on TV.  The famous round room offers another quite place for discussion and reading. The game room underneath provides indoor activities for all ages.  The internet café/wine tasting room provides a setting to enjoy all the samples of the nearby vineyards (Barrel Oak and Blue Valley actually within walking distance – but not recommended) to conduct your own tasting.          The Grove is located in one of the prettiest and popular cycling areas you will find in the Northern region of Virginia.   Consequently, the County hosts many cycling events from the Spring to the Fall.  These popular rides pass by the grand estates and orchards of Virginia's Hunt Country, and following the spine of the "mysterious" Mount Weather and down along the bottom of the ridge line of the Appalachian Trail.  The Grove is located just off RT55 which is part of all the key rides so you don’t have to drive and park just get on your bike and GO!  - And for those you like to hike, Sky Meadows State Park offers great scenic hiking trails that connect with the Appalachian Trail.
  • Great place for relaxing, really enjoyed it. Lots of games, a lot of fun for groups. Host puts a lot of effort into making the experience enjoyable

  • Actually, we were 2 families and with 5 kids. We had a great time and Karl’s house is beautiful, organized, clean and comfortable. I can say it was much much better than my expectations. I strongly recommend it. Thank you.

  • Our group had an amazing experience at "The Grove". The house is awesome and had comfortable sleeping for our entire group. The kitchen was great and had plenty of seating for our group of 12-16. We enjoyed the back lawn and patio area. The location was convenient and there was plenty of parking. We were able to visit nearby wineries. The men loved the ping pong and the women the nice big rooms for socializing and playing games. I strongly recommend this property for large groups (16 max). We may come back next year. Thanks Karl for your tips and easy check in process.

  • This was a great location for myself and extended family as we were in town for a cousins wedding. We were all impressed by this amazing home and enjoyed many of large common areas. Cooking together in the spacious kitchen and enjoying eating together at the large dining table was especially memorable. We wish we had more time here and may be back soon.

  • Really beautiful home in a lovely location. We were a group of 15 women and the home was the perfect set up for our small and large group activities. Karl was very responsive to all of our questions leading up to our visit. We highly recommend this rental home.

    Rebecca2018-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The house was so beautiful, very clean, stylish and comfortable decor. Kitchen and bathrooms are very well updated and seem to be very recently renovated. We stayed for a ladies weekend with a group of 10. The living spaces and kitchen were perfect for the entire group to gather. The beds were very comfortable with clean and comfy bedding. Karl the host was easy to communicate with and very helpful with local recommendations. The house is about a 25 min drive from the Salamander Resort. It's also very close to a handful of wineries. We went to Oak Barrel Winery right down the road and highly recommend it. Great weekend had by all. If ever in the area again with a big group, would definitely stay at Karl's place again.

Historic, renovated, train station in the heart of Virginia hunt and wine country. This private oasis sits on the second floor above three gorgeous art studios belonging to local artists. Enroll in an art workshop, enjoy twilight polo and horse races at Great Meadows, or find yourself having a romantic dinner in our little village of The Plains.
The historic train station was built in 1915 and has brought life to the little village of The Plains ever since. The large windows and beautiful brick create a warm and welcoming atmosphere with great light - especially for artists. There have been art studios on the first floor of the train station for decades. Only recently has the second floor been renovated and turned into an apartment. The second floor, which previously was the Station Master's office, now has 2 bedrooms (second bedroom -cute basic auxiliary- with twin beds), 1 full bath, half bath on 1st floor, a modern kitchen, and a great space for dining and lounging. The kitchen is fully stocked for any baking or cooking needs you may have during you stay. We are within walking distance of great restaurants and shops. See our recommendations below.
The Plains is a small village in Northern Virginia located between Middleburg and Warrenton. Need some recommendations for when you're in town? We have a few: Restaurants: Girasole The Rail Stop Front Porch Happy Creek Coffee & Tea Activities: - Great Meadows is a 5 minute drive and has many great events throughout the year -There are a few wonderful art galleries in town. While we're quite partial to the three art galleries on the first floor of the train station, be sure to check these out too: Young Blood Art Studio Zig Zag Gallery Live an Artful Life Gallery Local Shops: Peyton's Place Fine Furniture and Interior Design Hunt Country Yarns The Bittersweet Garden Local Vineyards: Boxwood Winery Greenhill Winery The Winery at La Grange
  • Great place. My favorite AirBnB place thus far and if you love trains then you will fall in love with this place.

    Nolan2016-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place. Lots of thoughtful touches. Walking distance to town. Very comfortable bedside. Train went by around 6 times during the night but we expected it and found it gave the place part of its charm. Caro was an amazing host.

    Sarah2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a beautiful retreat in the gorgeous countryside, this is the palace to stay. Our group of six women was impressed from the moment we walked up, met our wonderful host, Caro, and the rest of the weekend did not disappoint. The apartment comfortably fit us, and we didn't want to leave! From the stocked coffee/snack bar to the heavenly beds, to the charming town and surrounding vineyards, it is just a perfect place to spend a weekend. My one caveat (and this does not reflect on the property at all, rather the area), is that it wasn't as easy as others have posted to get an Uber. I would put in the request at least 20 minutes before you are hoping to leave somewhere. Also, a few drivers didn't seem to know where they were going and we waited more than 30 minutes more than once. But as for the property, five stars without a doubt. We will be back!

    Sarah2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Whistle Stop was a perfect location for us since we wanted to explore a number of little villages that are located within 30-45 minutes from The Plains. The countryside is beautiful, especially with the newly fallen snow from the day before. The apartment itself is very well appointed and much larger than it appears in the pictures. Caro was a super hostess who left us with all sorts of goodies and gladly gave us tips on places to eat and the surrounding area. The trains do fly by, as mentioned by other guests, but it really didn't bother us at all. Would return in a second!

    Katherine2018-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is charming and well put together. The living room and kitchen and very comfortable, and we enjoyed relaxing in the place, as well as exploring the nearby area. We had two couples, so we used both bedrooms. While one bedroom was a bit small, we all slept very well, and very much enjoyed our stay. And while the trains do rush by about 10 feet from your window, we quickly got used to it, and had no problem getting a good nights sleep. highly recommended

    Daniel2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Historic Depot with Charm. All the right touches for an inviting stay.

    Tony2018-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Caro was a wonderful host and the whistle stop was charming and had more amenities than we needed!!!

    Tracey2017-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Caro's place is fabulous! The interior reminded us of an English Tutor and when the train goes by, you have a front row seat! Although we thought the proximity of the train might be a bit much, the train was our favorite part. If you are thinking of a quick getaway from the Beltway, this is it! The local restaurants are within a brief walk and are excellent. We plan on going back.

This beautifully furnished cottage on three acres is in the heart of Hunt Country and Appalachian foothills. We are near the picturesque village of The Plains, VA., eight miles south of Middleburg and 50 miles west of DC. Renovated thoughtfully, it retains its charm and 19th century stone foundation. The fully equipped kitchen and dining room have an open plan while the sunroom opens to a large deck overlooking the expansive lawn. Please read our reviews and plan your perfect getaway!
The location of the property is ideal for hiking (close to the Appalachian Trail), biking, and horseback riding. Artists will appreciate the rolling hills, historic architecture and miles of old stone fences. Enjoy the many surrounding wineries, antiquing, orchards and farm-to-table dining establishments nearby, or pack a picnic basket (yes, we have two available at the house) and enjoy "Twilight Polo" every Saturday evening throughout the summer in The Plains' own Great Meadow where the VA Cup steeplechases are held annually. the farmer's market in The Plains is each Sunday spring to fall. Horse boarding and horseback riding lessons are possible across the street at Madcap Farm. Fishing, ice skating, pavilions, walking/biking paths and sports fields are all available a minute down the road at Northern Fauquier County Community park. History buffs will enjoy seeing Civil War battlefields in the area. The area has an interesting assortment of country folks and, well... very wealthy country folks! You'll find artists, farmers, businesspeople and even a few celebrities. We've found that all are friendly and it is a wonderful area in which to spend some time. Horses neighing or roosters crowing in the distance will remind you that it is time to relax and take in the country air.
  • Fox Hill Cottage is an oasis. The house is spacious, comfortable and peacefully quiet. Rob and Lina give a lot of great recommendations for food and local activities, but we were happy sitting on the back porch and looking out over their beautiful gardens. We stayed two nights and wish we could have stayed longer. Rob and Lina are great hosts - they even left us a bottle of local wine to enjoy - very responsive and thoughtful when it comes to the comfort of their guests.

  • Rob and Lina's place was FANTASTIC. Gorgeous inside and out and so very clean - seemed like it had never been lived in. Beautiful decorated with lots of extra touches. Lina left a bottle of wine in the fridge and fresh flowers on the kitchen table. It was such an easy check-in/check-out and Lina was super responsive before and during the stay via email. Cannot recommend highly enough and I hope to stay here again next year! Thanks again, Rob and Lina!

  • Greg and Kristiane are very kind and lovely hosts with whom to make arrangements at their lovely home.

    Adelia2018-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kristiane and Greg's place is really nice. A very upscale cabin experience in VA wine country. Kristiane has a designer's aesthetic and the house is very expensively and expertly furnished. It looks like something out of a Danish design catalogue! Also the fridge and cabinets were stocked and there was a full bar. The outdoor hot tub was very clean and also really private and had a great view of the night sky, we sat out looking at the stars for a long time. The location is ideal for a getaway since you are situated between two really quaint towns, Marshall and The Plains. Each with cool shopping, local restaurants and outdoor stuff. Plus you are just a few minutes away from several VA wineries AND Shenandoah National Park. There was so much to do. A really good trip.

    Dan2018-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Hosts are very hospitable and communicative. Have good local knowledge and the location offers many wonderful activities. The home is well equipped with amenities and has a great sense of style!

    Nelson2018-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful and well appointed home!Greg and Kristiane were super host’s and took great care to make sure that my stay was terrific!

    Shawn2018-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Greg and Kristane’s home is lovely! The hot tub, indoor fire place and back yard were amazing and would probably be even better during the warmer months. Wine tasting at La Grange was great as well. Just a tip ask for help with the Sonos sound system, it looked like a cool amenity but we just never figured out how to use it.

    Shakira2019-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most well-appointed, comfortable, and clean airbnb house I’ve rented. The house is stocked with everything you would need for your stay. You can tell the hosts put a lot of thought into the place. The location is also great. Close enough to dc, but far enough to be an escape. The nearby towns have wonderful restaurants, coffee, and bakeries. This is a gem. Kristiane and Greg responded promptly, and were lovely. I would highly recommend this house.

  • Great cottage close to 66, restaurants, nature and really good breakfasts! Immaculate, really cute place, clear instructions and she includes info for local sights and restaurants. Steph messages you back or texts almost immediately in response to any questions. Highly recommend!

  • This sweet little cottage was a perfect spot for a restful country weekend. Located right in between The Plains and Marshall, it was super convenient, and we had several great meals in both places. Only about a 10 minute drive from Middleburg as well. The cottage itself was impeccable - spotless and tastefully decorated. The bed was very comfortable, and there was also a very nice sleeper couch for our third guest. Steph was very communicative, and I never had a problem reaching her. In fact she checked in with me several times throughout our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. I would 100% recommend Steph's place to anyone looking for a cozy weekend retreat in the Middleburg area.

    Danielle2016-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Steph's place was adorable and just what we were looking for. Very clean and cozy with everything we needed. The location was beautiful, and if it hadn't rained all weekend we would have spent some time around the fire-pit. Overall she did a great job communicating with us and accurately describing her house. Comfy bed and fully stocked kitchen. It was a great weekend escape and I would certainly return!

Situated on 62 picturesque, rolling hills and pastures in the heart of Northern VA horse country. Close to world renowned equine events, such as Great Meadows and Upperville. Visit charming Middleburg, home of the National Sporting Library and Museum. Lovely, small towns nearby. Antiques, quaint gift shops, cafes and fabulous cuisine...casual or formal, all within a traffic free, short serene drive. Take a long walk on our quiet, country roads. No pets. 18 and older.
  • This is a place you will not regret visiting. My stay was better than some 5 star Select Registry Bed and Breakfast locations across the country. We were treated with special treats and fresh flowers. The house was impeccably clean and the rooms were well furnished. Miss Cindy not only made us feel welcome but she was also very helpful with directions to local venues and provided us with everything you would ever need. It was difficult to leave, it was a true break from reality. It was my best airbnb experience so far.

  • We had a lovely one night stay in February. The apartment was nice and very clean. It was the perfect set up for our family and our kids enjoyed playing under the large evergreen tree and watching the horses. A great country getaway! We will be back.

  • Donna Jean was a terrific host. The apartment is as described, plenty of room for two couples. We were in Marshall to go to the restaurant Field & Main, visit a winery, and go hiking at Sky Meadows. We slept in the Queen bed and it was super comfortable. Both of the bedrooms are very large. The bathroom was supplied with plenty of soft fluffy towels for all of us. It was a warm beautiful night and Donna Jean invited us to sit around her (the main house) fire pit to stargaze, which was so nice. Recommend.

  • A quiet, lovely location in the midst of Virginia horse country. The garage apartment offers nifty views of horses grazing in neighboring paddocks and provides a perfect sense of privacy for a weekend getaway. Yet it's only minutes from Marshall and a bit further to The Plains and Middleburg.

  • Three mom friends and I escaped to The Plains/Middleburg for the weekend and were so glad we found the Ewbank Cottage. The house was sparkling clean, comfortable and the location couldn't be beat. You are literally 500 steps away from the village of The Plains. There are a few wonderful restaurants in town and some good antique shopping as well. Middleburg is only about 15-20 minutes away and there are also lots of wineries that are close by. The best part is that it only took us 40 minutes to get there from Arlington, VA. Charlotte was quick to communicate with us and a gracious host.

  • Charlotte's house is amazing.

    Leigh2018-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, very convenient for all the country activities in Marshall, The Plains, and Middleburg. Elegant and sophisticated cottage, just add wine, sunset on the front porch was incredible.

    John2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great house for a ladies weekend! We (7 of us) were only there one night and we didn’t want to spend time driving to get to cafes or restaurants, so it was incredibly convenient that this house was only 2 blocks walking distance from the center of The Plains. The big open layout of the kitchen/dining room was perfect for pre-event gathering and for a nightcap when we returned. The covered front porch was also a huge plus since it was raining most of the time. It’s clear that Charlotte cares about the comfort of her guests because of the quality of the amenities, especially the beds. It was like I was sleeping at home! Overall this was a wonderful place to stay and in a great location. I’d certainly recommend it!

This home and setting will blow you away. Featured in the Washington Post, Virginia Living and Home and Design - its a place that will both inspire and calm you. It has a soul and spirit about it that is sure to change the way you look at home design.
  • One Nest is beautifully styled for a memorable getaway. The location is perfect for visiting wineries in the area, hiking, and adventuring at Hollin's farm where we were able to pick sunflowers and berries! At the home there is a neat outdoor fire pit that is perfect for s'mores and/or gathering around for a glass of wine. Mark was easy to work with and we definitely recommend that you look no further for a place to stay!

    Sarah2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • One Nest is a treasure! We enjoyed the remote and peaceful yet accessible nature of the property, sitting outside on the beautiful spacious deck, and the excellent recommendations on Marshall shops from Mark (stop by The Whole Ox and the Red Truck Bakery!). The home is perefectly prepared for a weekend getaway - there are outdoor and indoor fireplaces, a lot of indoor space in common rooms, and a large enough number of bedrooms for groups. We really enjoyed the grill, and sitting outside and enjoying the sound system. The spa bath is also superb! All of this is in addition to the very cool design approach of the entire home. We loved staying here!

    Erin2018-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you have the chance to rent this magical place you should go for it. We did and had an amazing weekend. The drive alone soothes the soul. Only a short distance from the city and you arrive in the heart of wine country. We visited our favorite winery, Linden, which was only ten minutes from the house. We had dinner at Field and Main in Marshall again a short drive from the house! The place is super comfortable and stylish. The windows show off a perfect view of sky and landscape. You could lay in the sofa and watch the clouds float by. We made an amazing fire inside and out and then enjoyed a good night’s sleep. It is a quiet country home. In the morning is when the magic happened! We watched in awe as a black bear cub crossed the driveway about 50 yards away while we were safely inside! The property is so beautiful, we walked around and encountered goats, sheep, blue jays and horses. We even followed a path to a tree swing. When we got back to the house a little green and red humming bird landed on the railing right in front of us. That is when I declared that the place was magical and decided to come back as soon as our schedule allows.

    Kirsten2018-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • This house is not only well designed, uber chic and comfortable, but the views of the surrounding mountain are also absolutely fantastic. The setting is private, but convenient to area attractions. The home is as perfect for relaxing alone as it is for entertaining a group. Owner was helpful and easy to communicate with. Would definitely return.

  • The house was awesome! A perfect Virginia nature getaway for a group.

    Blake2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Mark was a wonderful host - starting with letting me tour the house before our stay to everything else. The house is a true architectural gem and such a great place for a family wknd getaway. We loved the vast grounds, the swing and the local wineries/bakeries. We loved the big windows, fireplace, innovative design and the attention to sustainability. He's also quite responsive and helpful with other resources/questions I kept going back for. Thanks, Mark - we may very well make renting your place an annual family tradition. I've stayed in airbnbs from Brussels to Mexico City to Cape Town, S. Africa - yours is one of the best finds.

  • Nestled amongst the beautiful rolling hills of Delaplane, this abode is perfect for your weekend getaway! Modern, green and spacious living for a weekend retreat; you can hit the vineyards nearby or just stay in and soak up the scenery on the porch with a fire. Mark was wonderful to communicate with and will give you ideas on what to do around the area. I will definitely be back !

    Katie2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • This property is really one of a kind in terms of view, location and comfort. We had a great girls get away weekend and it could not have been better in terms of the house and its location, views and proximity to things to do. Mark is a super host very helpful and accommodating. I cannot recommend the host and his place enough!

Nestled in the hillside of Cedar Hill Alpaca Farm, the views from all windows are of rolling hills and grazing alpacas, horses and Guiseppe the donkey. Lovely and very cozy comfortably furnished apartment. 3 bedrooms & 1 full bath with tub. A large screen TV and artwork decorate the living room. Hope you like colors! Quiet and peaceful and close to Great Meadow Event Center. Bring a horse or alpacas and board them here if you'd like (additional fees apply). Basic Internet and DirectTV.
Beautifully furnished with Morrocan carpets, an original Carbonell painting, African art and artifacts...and completely comfortable. A very spacious private apartment, about 1,800 square feet. Huge master bedroom with California King bed for those of you who are extra tall. A wonderful home away from home. Book the week or month if you'd like. We welcome you and are excited and pleased that you've considered our rolling hills for your stay.
Fauquier County, Virginia prides itself on conservation easements that the locals have donated to the county...simply to keep it beautiful. Cedar Hill Farm is at the dead end of Enon Church Rd which is right off SR 17...a major thoroughfare. There are 3 entrances to I-66 and we are only 45 minutes from downtown Washington, DC...assuming you're not in traffic that is! Marshall, The Plains, and Middleburg and Warrenton are minutes away. So, we look and act rural but we are close to everything. This is a historic area with Cedar Hill purported to be a signal point for John Mosby and his Raiders during the Civil War.

Beautifully furnished cottage located right in town. Easy walk to restaurants, private. A short drive to Middleburg, wineries, hiking, biking. Washer/Dryer,full Kitchen, Studio with Q-bed and additional bedroom upstairs. Really High Speed Internet included.
The cottage is located on a quiet, tree-lined street behind my store, Peyton's Place which is on Main st. It is within easy walking access to all three wonderful restaurants, The Front Porch, The Railstop and Girasole and Happy Creek Coffee (the best coffee ever!)
  • We stayed in Peyton's one bedroom for the month of May. It was the perfect space for two adults and our toddler. Peyton and Kenny were warm, welcoming and answered any of our questions/concerns quickly. We loved the location and took advantage of Happy Creek coffee and The Front Porch many times during our stay! Right up the road is a beautiful Fauquier County park with a walking trail and playgrounds for our little one. Peyton's place is central to both Marshall and Middleburg as well as all the fun wineries in the area. If you are lucky enough to visit in the summer, be sure to check out Twilight Polo at Great Meadow. You can also go for an evening picnic there during the week and enjoy the beautiful grounds all to yourself! One of my favorite things about our stay in The Plains was the friendliness of all the residents. We met many kind locals who enjoyed a good conversation. We will definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in the area.

    Janet2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • The studio cottage was perfect. The rustic atmosphere of the room and being within walking distance of everything in The Plains was a nice touch. Peyton was a great host and made certain we had everything we needed. She gave excellent suggestions for things we could do around the area as well. Hopefully we'll be able to get back here again in the near future. I definitely recommend this place.

  • Peyton’s place was really nice. It was quaint, clean and stylish and centrally located near all of the greats restaurants on the Plains’s Main Street. Peyton was super helpful and communicative. We were able to bring our dog which was a huge bonus. The apartment is spacious and very comfortable with a great shower and kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay here.

  • My husband, mom, and our 3 dogs had a lovely stay at Peyton’s place. She was incredibly accommodating and so amazing to communicate with. There were some maintenance issues prior to our arrival so she kindly upgraded us to her lovely cottage that felt like a little country oasis. Highly recommend!

Basement Apartment (part of house) on 100 acre horse farm with beautiful views of mountains. Hiking, biking, wineries, horse activities, canoeing/kayaking, antiques, restaurants all within short drive from farm. Apartment consists of: king bed in private bedroom, two single beds in common area, full kitchen, full bath, large sitting area with flat screen, private entry. Pets welcome. Stable available for overnight horse board for a fee. Kayak and bicycle rental available.
Lovely apartment with lots of windows and light. Comfortable sitting area, full kitchen. Large flat screen TV with entertainment and wireless internet.
There are at least 12 wineries within a five mile radius of house. Middleburg is a short distance, Upperville is 4 miles, Great Meadow is 10 minutes. Many horse activities (shows, racing, hunting, polo) in area. Biking is very popular on local roads. Appalachian trail is 5 miles away. Shenandoah river is 10 miles away. Many antique shops within short distance.
  • We stayed at Jack's basement for one night with our dog while visiting some of the vineyards in the area. Jack and his wife were very hospitable, and getting checked in and out was a breeze. The property is absolutely gorgeous and exactly what we were looking for in a weekend getaway. Our dog loved playing in the yard so much, we had to coax him to the car because he didn't want to leave. Because it is the basement of their home, you do hear some noise from upstairs, but it was not bothersome at all. And, in spite of it being a basement apartment it gets tons of natural light. If we head back to the area, we would definitely stay here again!

  • Lovely working farm with charming in-law suite! Hosts provided helpful area information. Enjoyed local wineries and sweet, small towns. Note: traveled with our dog; great pet-friendly option.

    Allison2016-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location and place! Just as described. Many other reviewers mentioned this- but know that this is a basement apartment and you can hear people upstairs. It wasn't a big deal for us, but it's good to know. Also, given you are on a farm and in the basement, there were quite a few spiders and other bugs in the room. Not a big deal for us, but again worth knowing. If you are exploring the area, this is the place to be! Thanks for your hospitality Jack :)

    Ryan2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very secluded, loved the large farm, but unfortunately no horses available that weekend for us to use. Our little pup loved the land to roam around in. It's a basement apartment of a house, so you can definitely hear the noise upstairs if the family is home. It was also somewhat chilly on a cold winter night but the hosts were able to provide a small space heater.

Enjoy the unique ambiance of a country squire in fabled horse country. This private room is situated within the main manor home of one of the loveliest estates to be found in the entire Middleburg area. 130 private acres of rolling hills, hiking, alpacas, horses and solitude. Experience our rural lifestyle while having close access to super restaurants, wineries and Great Meadow Equestrian Center. 35 minutes from Dulles International Airport (IAD) & 45 minutes from Washington, D.C.
This is an opportunity to relax and escape or to recoup at the end of difficult days. Stroll the magnificent grounds, the rolling slopes, streams, a pond and paddocks of horses, donkey's and alpaca. If you'd like to learn and mingle with the alpacas I will be delighted to show you our youngsters. They are quite remarkable. Also, learn to make Mary's Premium Alpaca Poop+...really, an organic soil & plant food. See how we do it. (Website hidden by Airbnb) *(A 2nd bedroom is available on a duplicate listing. If the same guest books both bedrooms there is a reduction in price of a total of $50 per room). Famed Middleburg, Va is just down the road, and Warrenton, Upperville, and Winchester beckon. This is Civil War country and home of "the Grey Ghost", John Mosby and his Mosby Raiders. Enjoy history up close. The estate is miles off the main road (SR 17) and offers complete seclusion, quiet, and starlite skies at night. (Enon Church Road was closed in 1902. We are at the dead-end making this estate especially private. There is no thru-traffic). The bedroom has a Queen-sized 4-poster wooden carved bed adorned with fine linens . Chairs, carpeting, large bureau, suitcase stand and two hanging racks for clothes. There is a lovely private bath with shower and tub. Marble top sink and plush towels to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Hairdryer, soaps, shampoo and conditioner for your convenience. The room has a small private porch with overhead light and a chair to relax in and watch the sunrise. Beautiful bucolic views of the extensive gardens. A magnificent house porch to lounge or read a good book while enjoying the rural views of distant mountains lies just outside and is available to you. This porch has a long table set underneath a large trellis of flowering wisteria with a cage of doves in warm weather. Coffee is available at all times just outside your door in the semi circular vestibule.
Fauquier County was named after the Govenor of Virginia. It's close to everything but looks rural since most of the county has been put into "conservation easements" by the land owners who are trying to protect this historic, beautiful place. Now and then, the Warrenton Hunt gives us notice that they'll be "riding to the hounds" thru our backyard. It's a heads up and a real thrill.

  • This is a darling cottage in the middle of a stunning horse farm in Virginia's prime horse country. The house is BIG with three large bedrooms and three well equipped bathrooms. Lots of light and gorgeous views every where you look. Clean as a whistle and spotless wall to wall carpeting in all bedrooms. Small detail: we particularly appreciated the paper Dixie cups for our travel beverages on departure. The host was always available for our three calls about logistics. HIghly recommended!

  • I would highly recommend staying at the cottage. It is located between Middleburg and Upperville. Perfect location on a horse farm. Only a few miles from shopping and restaurants. The home is very clean and the hosts are quick to respond to communication. If you are looking for a weekend away, that is quiet and located in a beautiful location...stay here!

  • Darcie, I was beyond thrilled when I entered the cottage from the stone fireplaces, to hardwoods to the horse paintings in each room esp loved the painting on the wall of the staircase down to the welcome April sign in the kitchen. There were an abundance of towels blankets sheets and anything you would need to make my stay better than being at home !! I had peace and quiet and wonderful water pressure ! I loved everything about the "cottage"(more like HOUSE!) and will recommend it to everyone I know who is traveling to Middleburg or surrounding areas!

    April2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • This home is absolutely fantastic! The host (Darcie) has thought of everything...and I mean EVERYTHING that you could possibly need...from coffee to ziplock bags to games. It's wonderfully peaceful and quiet yet close to wineries and Middleburg if you can tear yourself away. We are already planning a return visit in the fall so we can enjoy the firepit and all the beautiful trees in color :) She was so helpful with suggestions for these newbies to the area, it would not have been nearly as enjoyable a weekend if not for her.

    Judith2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and location. Darcie was great about answering questions and making us feel welcome.

    Terri2018-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a great space to unwind, relax and take in Virginia Horse Country, look no further than Darcie's Stone Cottage. Exactly as it appears in the photos, sparkling clean and more comfortable than any Air BNB I've ever rented. This rental is especially convenient for multiple couples traveling together. Darcie is a great hostess, always accessible. The location is on her horse farm and it was wonderful to see the workings of this beautiful space. Plenty of coffee, firewood and local tips made the weekend extra special. We will be back.

  • My wife, two young children (ages 1 and almost 3), and their three grandparents had a wonderful time at the Country House. The home is secluded and peaceful and the grounds are even nicer than the pictures. Our kids loved playing on the swing, looking for fish in the pond, and seeing rabbits hop around. The house itself is also beautiful, with a large kitchen to enjoy homemade meals, comfy couches, and several porches and decks to sit, chat, and enjoy the views. It's an easy drive to downtown Marshall, where we had good food at Red Truck bakery, Gentle Harvest, Marshall Diner, and Joe's Pizza. It was a great family getaway. Thanks for a great stay!

  • If you are looking for a relaxing retreat in the Virginia countryside not too far from DC or Northern VA but close to the wineries - this is your place!! A group of us came from the DC area to send off and celebrate friends who are moving away. We arranged for wine tasting in the Middleburg area and then spent our time realign in the Country House. The grounds are spacious and lovely for little walks and bird watching. I think we most enjoyed sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs and listening to the water in the little creek nest to the house. We brought our own food and had no problem preparing our meals in the large well-equipped kitchen. Mike and Sarah were easy to deal with and very helpful wen we had problems with the airbnb website. The pictures do not do the house and property justice!! I would definitely go back!

    Ann2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • So much room to hang out in gorgeous Virginia wine country. Bring your fishing poles and hiking shoes to get the most out of the beautiful grounds. We spotted a little brown bear and deer in the early evening. Sarah is a great host and responded to our multiple requests for information. What a treat to stay at the Country House!

    Mary2018-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Mike and Sara have a beautiful home in the perfect setting. The house is clean, spacious and well maintained. It is nearby all the main attractions of the area (Middleburg, The Plains, Upperville) but just far enough away to enjoy the serene setting. Both Mike and Sara were friendly, helpful and welcoming throughout the booking process and stay. I will definitely be going back again!

    Sarah2015-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Mike's house is a beautiful, recently-renovated hidden gem near the Shenandoah national park. It's spacious yet cozy for our group of 7. We really enjoyed our time there. Highly recommended for any groups who are in town for a weekend of hiking. Did I mention that there is a pond within their 8-acre compound? A lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of city life just by itself!

    John2015-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • We booked the Country House for 3 months while we were house-hunting in the area, but ended up staying 4 months. We just happened to arrive on the afternoon of a massive windstorm. But after working ourselves and our luggage inside, we found a very cute, cozy and functional home with everything as advertised. We didn't even notice that the power had been totally knocked out by the storm moments before we arrived, and that the whole-house generator had automatically kicked in, so the entire place had electricity for the 5 days the power was out - like it never even happened! Sarah (the owner) and Carlton (caretaker) are just so nice and attentive and super caring. They both bend over backwards to make sure we have everything we need. Definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys the seclusion of nature, woods and hills, and yet the town of Marshall is only about 9 minutes up the road - Warrenton is 25 minutes.

    Peter2018-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • First, I want to start with the tremendous helpfulness and response by the owners. We had a party of 4 together for a visit to the Virginia wine country. We had booked another property, but there were issues that arose that we could not stay at that property. After a quick search, we found this property. I won't go into the sordid details, but the owner worked with us for over 2 hours at the last minute to get us into the property that night. They went above and beyond anything I've previously experienced in dealing with property owners. So, on to the house. It is just as depicted in the pictures, very warm and comfortable. And the grounds are beautiful. It's located in a very quiet wooded area but is extremely convenient to the area's amenities. Harper's Ferry, Great Falls and DC are within an hour drive and some of our favorite wineries were literally minutes from the house. Just a really overall great experience.

    Tony2018-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a great remote wilderness getaway in Fauquier County, Virginia, this is the place! Abundant wildlife in a quaint and cozy wilderness setting complete with its own brook running across the property into the pond. Sarah and Carlton were both extremely responsive and helpful. We ended up staying four months (house-hunting). All and all, a great experience!

  • What a home! We have stayed at Airbnbs across the globe but none so well appointed as this one. From a well stocked kitchen to the lovely bath products it made for an easy stay. The layout of the house as a former B&B made it perfect for several families because everyone had their own big room and bath. It was so hard to choose which one to stay in with porches, spa tub, sitting areas, and suites all on offer. The location is fantastic and communication getting in, out, and throughout the stay was seamless. Wonderful linens too. We will be back!

  • This home is magnificent! Rented with a group of women and we all agreed it was the most beautiful home we’d ever seen-could not believe we got the opportunity to stay there! Beautiful views from the porches, easy walk to restaurants and coffee shops, and wonderful spaces for conversation and laughter. Plus, the host was incredibly considerate, offering guidance on local activities, including vineyards and restaurants, with a local perspective on what to do-invaluable advice. Renting this home MADE our weekend in Virginia horse country, it was a perfect retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was unforgettable-thank you!

A group of ten of us stayed at the Plains for a family graduation weekend and everyone could not stop gushing about how perfect of a space it was for our needs. Each bedroom has its own adjoining bath, and the grounds are picture perfect. Steph was a wonderful communicator and made sure we had everything we needed for our perfect wine country weekend. If only I wasn’t moving to California, I would book the Plains for every future family event in a heartbeat. Thank you for everything!!

There is a two-night minimum. Stroll the magnificent grounds, the rolling slopes, streams, a pond and paddocks of horses, donkey's and alpaca. With plenty of deer looking on. *(A 2nd bedroom is available on a duplicate listing. The estate is miles off the main road (SR 17) and offers complete seclusion, quiet, and dark skies and stars at night. No formal closet, but a huge nearby closet is available for special hanging needs.

YES! We serve BREAKFAST! Stillwaters is 12 acres on Lake Athalon, minutes from 5 wineries. The Cedar Room is perfect for couples or small families (including pets :) Special Rates for 3 or more nights. Hiking, Biking, History, LIVE music! 50 miles from DC. Phenomenal stars!
We call our home Stillwaters. Turn onto Janes Lane and come down to our 12 acres on Lake Athalon. Designed and built by Jeff in the 80's, the living room has great beams and a high loft with a front wall of windows and glass doors facing field and lake. Jeff planted the trees too, which have turned from mere whips into 40 footers. There are 2 labyrinths, woods, fields and quiet roads to wander. The nearest town, Marshall, has great pizza, good Chinese food, a diner and "Old Salem" a decent, affordable restaurant. Our friends at Barrel Oak Winery (Brian) and Cobbler Mountain Cellars (Laura) will also make you feel right at home. History buffs will enjoy reading signs of events from Civil War times. Stillwaters is 45 miles from Washington, DC and just 40 minutes from Dulles International Airport (ask if you need pick up or drop off). Stillwaters also has a recording studio and a stage. We host monthly concerts to support Stillwaters Foundation which is "building community and creating peace through music" (and where we donate your fee). If you'd like to sing around a campfire or try your hands in a drum circle let us know! We have 3 private rooms with 2 bathrooms. We can sleep up to 8 (queen and singles beds, and airbeds--it IS called AIR B&B :) We also love to host events: Stillwaters boasts an outdoor stage, 5 event tents, tables and chairs for 150. Jeff and I had our wedding here (and it was beautiful!) Come! Explore Virginia country, re-connect, re-treat, and rest. We look forward to meeting you here at Stillwaters. Mary Shapiro and Jeff Wolf
Quite, private country road. The lake brings Great Blue Heron, a variety of hawks, fox, deer, geese, and migratory swans. The stars are phenomenal.
  • this trip was divine design! We saw the place and said YES, then read on...both professional musicians(I am too), former pilot(I still am)....basicly from the same era....equals a great TIME! We pulled up as they were setting up for a concert with and for their music/recording students. We all had pizza, heard a concert, played together. SUPERr/....the house was big, comfortable, woody...grand kitchen! Morning Chef Jeff did a baked omelet I won't forget. We laughed, we cried...met some wonderful new friends (can't forget their friend Dennis...hope he's there when you are) concluded with more music together then a soulful goodbye....... see ya down the road.....LIFE

  • I had a fabulous stay with Mary, I only wish I had been able to spend more time with both her and Jeff! The place was just as described, with plenty of privacy. The property itself is scenic and quiet, and both my dog and myself loved it. They are very eco-friendly at the house (which I really appreciated), from recycling to reusing water for the sprinkler system to trying to minimize use of the AC, but made sure that I was most comfortable in the house! With a recording studio in the house and setup available for outdoor concerts, I only wish I wouldn't have had to leave before they were throwing a small festival that I'm sure was so much fun! I would absolutely recommend a stay with Mary and Jeff if you're in the area and would like a nice, peaceful stay in a farm-surrounded area

  • Staying at Stillwater is like visiting the home of a dear relative you've never met. The hosts are wonderful, genuine people who made us feel very much at home. Stillwater is very much a Bed and Breakfast with a hippie vibe. The hosts have a home with a beautiful view of a lake. Our room was comfortable and had a private bathroom. We had a lovely chat over the delicious breakfast they made us. The deck and yard have seating areas available to enjoy warm weather. I also went out on their rowboat and relaxed in the sun. They put out lemon water in pitchers and snacks during the day to keep us comfortable. Warm, inviting, serene and personalized-a wonderful place to stay.

  • Mary and Jeff shared their beautiful home with us. They offered a delicious continental breakfast, and we ordered a wonderful breakfast of eggs and salmon for our second day. The grounds are lovely and the room had everything we needed for a restful stay.

  • I am so glad I booked the stay at Stillwaters at the end of a trip to the area to attend a conference and stay with friends in Baltimore. Marshall is in a picturesque area of Virginia countryside, and Stillwaters was a tranquil oasis. Mary and Jeff were friendly, welcoming, and had eager to recommend sites and music in the area. The place was very homey, with a resident dog who came with me on morning walks around the grounds. :-) I stayed in the Cedar room, which was very comfortable and well-appointed. The en-suite was nice for some privacy and relaxing after a full day of hiking in the Shenandoah. If and when I travel to the area again, I will definitely look them up!

Updated kitchen with gas cook top, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, and Keurig. Living room with gas fire place. Central air/heat. Also has dining room and large sunroom off kitchen. Back of house offers a large deck and private backyard with fire pit. An air mattress is available UPON ADVANCE REQUEST for use in the living room. NOTE: wired and wireless internet is available however it is NOT suitable for streaming video. We use satellite-based internet which is suitable for email and basic web surfing / online shopping. Also, cellular access may be limited or unavailable at times in the farm house due to its location in a valley. Verizon cellular is stronger in the Middleburg area than ATT or Sprint. The farm house is located about 1/2 mile from Zulla Rd/Rt 709 on a county maintained dirt road. This road is accessible with a standard sedan or SUV, but we recommend leaving the Ferrari at home :-) As a traditionally built turn of the 20th century home this location is not suitable for guests with limited mobility: all bedrooms and the bathroom are located on the second floor (original wooden staircase).
The property is located in a small valley between Middleburg and The Plains and is crisscrossed by quiet country roads, perfect places to take your favorite pooch or pooches on a stroll, ride a bike, or just get lost in your own thoughts. Minutes away are the towns of Middleburg, The Plains, and Marshall that offer dining choices from hamburgers to haute cuisine (Goodstone Inn and Restaurant, Salamander Inn and Restaurant, Field & Main, The Rail Stop, The Whole Ox - Butcher Bar, The Front Porch, Red Truck Bakery, Gentle Harvest, The Red Fox, The Red Horse Tavern, The Side Saddle Cafe, Julien's Cafe and more!) About 20 minutes to Upperville, VA and Hunter's Head Tavern.
  • Loved this Airbnb! It was such a treat! I only wish I was in town for fun and not work so that I could enjoy it more. It was very clean, very easy to get to, and within easy distance to all the Hunt Country towns to enjoy.

  • A lovely old farmhouse that has modern finishes. The farm is great to walk around and the gravel road by the house is a great walk as well. Wonderful area. The hosts are helpful and full of tips of places to go. Would stay here again

  • We just stayed over a week at The Farmhouse and loved it. It was great for the three of us and our dogs. Scott and Steph were very attentive when needed. The Farmhouse is very cheerful and pleasant, lots of windows, charming 1900s interior, plenty of room. We frequently used the deck and on one warmer evening we enjoyed the fire pit in the yard. Farmhouse is on a 94 acre property so it feels very private, no other houses right up next to it. Cozy fireplace, kitchen had everything we needed to feel at home. Oh, and the location is beautiful, horse country with easy drive to Middleburg and the little town of The Plains. We highly recommend The Farmhouse and Scott. We liked it so much we have already booked another stay!

  • We needed a little extra room on the occasion of my wedding and this was an out of the way spot that is extremely convenient to The Plains, Marshall (with all of its culinary chops) and Middleburg. If you're looking for a convenient place to stay but enjoy having your own space while visiting friends or family, this is it. It's an easy way to make a trip from DC a weekender instead of just a day trip. And you'll enjoy the sumptuous bedding, beautiful gardens, and wonderful privacy. If I didn't live so close by, I'd definitely stay here again!

  • What a lovely house! The entire area is charming, and the house was perfect - really comfortable and clean with everything you might need for a weekend. Steph was absolutely wonderful and so helpful - everything from tips about the house to recommendations for the area. It's really peaceful out there, and we are already planning a trip to come back when it's a bit warmer out!

The Old Winery was recently (2014) converted to accommodate guests in a dramatic, but very comfortable space. It is located on a vineyard, with magnificent views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and horse farms, in the picturesque village of Rectortown, Va., one-hour drive from DC and 40 min to Dulles airport. With 2 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths and comfortable, rustic charm, The Old Winery is perfect for an intimate family getaway. We will consider requests to host large parties for an extra charge.
The Old Winery is a large, barn-like structure, with 3-story ceilings and barn-style doors that swing open, leading to large patios and great views. It is fully air-conditioned and heated with new systems. Indoors, the main hall is set up for daily dining use with two wine-tasting tables and an array of comfortable lounge furniture. There is also a full bar and bar stools, fully stocked with glassware, an ice maker, and wine refrigerators. You will also find a foos-ball table and an electronic piano, which guests are welcome to enjoy. Off the side of the main hall is another entertaining space, the “oak barrel room”, now converted into a large TV and games room, with comfortable seating and another large dining (or games) table. This room has a 65” HD TV with surround sound and a DVD player (please bring your own DVDs), books and board games, great for entertaining kids while the adults have dinner in the main hall. The oak barrel room has large picture windows that overlook the woods and, in winter, a full-on view to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Behind the bar is a fully-stocked and equipped catering kitchen, including cutlery, dinnerware, pots & pans and serving platters. There is a variety of small appliances (blenders, coffee makers, pizza oven), as well as an industrial dish washer that runs a cycle in 3 minutes! Upstairs, you will find two fully-carpeted bedrooms, both with closets and modern bathrooms en suite. One bedroom is set up with a king bed, a desk, reading chair and two dressers. The other is set up with three twin beds, each with night tables, bed-side lamps and a dresser. The beds can be reconfigured into a king and twin, depending on guests’ needs. A country train passes nearby approximately 5-10 times/day. (Please note: the train makes noise for 60-90 seconds while passing, sometimes at night. Most of our guests find this charming, but for those who don’t, or who sleep lightly when windows are open, we understand and ear plugs are provided!) Outside the Old Winery, there is another wonderful entertaining space. There is a large patio with an enormous wood portico, complete with decorative lights and ceiling fans. The portico has tables and chairs to enjoy outdoor dining. There is also built in cabinetry and a zinc-topped table suitable for serving. Feel free to use the gas grill. There is an additional sitting area outside, with lounge chairs, sun umbrellas, and an outdoor fireplace. Beautiful views abound.
Vineyard and converted winery in the heart of Virginia horse and wine country.
  • Excellent space and Marcelo is very accomodating and great at communicating in a timely way. We used this space also to throw a family event with about 40 people. Everyone loved it and it was a perfect weekend. Thank you!

  • I am so grateful I found this place for my wedding. It’s just perfect for the small wedding of 50. The place is beautiful in itself I didn’t need to do a lot of decorations. We had the ceremony outside and the reception inside. Just perfect! So many guests asked me how I found this place and expressed how perfect this place was for the wedding. Marcelo is an amazing person to work with. He made sure I have everything I needed, great communication, and made my wedding planning so much easier. I am recommending this place for the wedding/party to people I know. I hope to rent this place for our next event! Truly an amazing place! Thank you Marcelo for all your help! I really appreciate you!

  • Great place to use as a base to explore the area. Spent the weekend on a father/son trip weekend this was a perfect spot to explore everything from hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing, zip lining, and expiring caverns. When back at the Old Winery the environment was nothing if not peaceful.

    Ed2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place! I hosted my wedding at Marcelo's venue and it was beautiful. The indoor space was perfect with a bar area, full kitchen, guest bathroom, lounge area, TV room, etc. The venue's indoor/outdoor surround system for music was a bit tricky, but we eventually found a workaround. The bedrooms and bathrooms were great - extremely clean, modern, and with very comfortable beds. The trains were frequent but didn't bother us. One even went through during the ceremony, but guests found it to be hilarious and memorable (in a good way). Back patio area was perfect for an evening outdoors with low lighting, plenty of seating, and a fire pit for s'mores. Overall beautiful venue and I'm so happy we found it! Marcelo was also a wonderful host and constantly available for any questions. Check-in and check-out were extremely easy, as well.

    Dana2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the most wonderful and beautiful place we have ever stayed at. Marcelo is the most amazing host makes you feel right at home and is so thoughtful. I honestly have never had a better experience in my life. To any one looking for a magical place come here and make your dreams come true.

  • This is a really impressive property in a beautiful spot. We rented it for a birthday party for my MIL and had 11 people total, mostly seniors and they were very happy...there's lots of space to gather (kitchen table, sunny windowed area, near the fire place, downstairs in the game area) and plenty of bathrooms. There is no TV, which did not bother us but you should be aware if that matters to you.

    Heather2018-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Enjoyed a weekend birthday getaway for my wife with several close friends. House was large enough to accommodate everyone comfortably and had lots of stuff to keep kids entertained. Local wineries were outstanding. Highly recommend Pearmund winery - about a 10 min drive.

  • Beautiful landscape. House was breathtaking with amazing views. Everything you would look for in a relaxing fun get away. Host was spot on.

  • Great location! Secluded but only 10 to 15 minutes from shopping. Linens were provided and of great quality. The beds were very comfortable and the house is just as pictured. The views were fantastic, making for a lovely weekend. The house has several board games, a pool table, ping pong table, a pinball machine, among other amenities. There are no TVs, but there is so much to enjoy - you won’t miss it! Appreciated the communication with the host and would definitely visit again.

  • This is a gorgeous house with incredible views. A great space to spend the weekend with friends and a great kitchen for cooking in!

    Katharine2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not do the home justice. The house is gorgeous with a beautiful master bathroom, gourmet kitchen, fire pi, tons of family games, and so much more. The surrounding areas have beautiful rolling hills with cows mooing in the background. And while the house is secluded and feels like the country it is still close to everything your family will need. Our family really enjoyed our time here.

This charming cottage was once the town barber shop and is over 100 years old. It's a bright and sunny room with light filtering through the original paned glass windows. The kitchen is small but efficient and outfitted with everything you would need to prepare a meal. The bathroom is newly renovated. The queen size bed is made up in high thread count linens and the Ralph Lauren living room furniture with feather & down cushions makes a cozy extra bed. Park (free) and walk to three highly rated restaurants, including the well known Happy Creek Coffee and bike shop a half a block walk. Spend time in our own shops and galleries or a 10 minute drive will take you to Middleburg or a number of picturesque wineries for tastings. Bring your bikes to roll down country roads or take a nice trail ride at Marriott Ranch. Hike at Sky Meadow in nearby Paris Virginia. Several golf courses within 20 minutes. The Plains was recently voted "Best Town to Visit" by Blue Ridge Travel and is home to the world famous "Gold Cup Steeple Chase". It's only an hour from DC and one mile off of I-66 but it's a whole new world from the crowds, stress and traffic.
Even though we are considered rural, our town is very walkable, even with a stroller. We have sidewalks and grassy areas both. There are two large parks within a 5 min. drive from the cottage, beautiful and quiet for communing with nature. One of the three full service restaurants in town, The Front Porch, stays open for a late dinner or nightcap and the other two will serve you late as long as you get there by 8:30. We also have something unusual, a Vietnamese kitchen in our t gas station/convenience store, true ethnic Vietnamese. So, if you want to eat in but not cook, grab something here, inexpensive and delicious. There is also pizza delivery from nearby Joe's Pizza, in Marshall, and it's some of the best pizza I've had. True Italian and family owned.
  • Peyton gave us great tips on where to eat. Everything was just so easy - parking, arrival, what to do, and departure.

  • Had a great weekend in and around The Plains. The cottage is wonderful and a very short walk to all of the great restaurants and shops. The owners are happy to make suggestions. Forlano's Market is a gem. We also made the short drive up to Middleburg on our way there, visited a few wineries, and went hiking all within a 20 minute drive. Can't recommend it highly enough and we look forward to our next trip.

    Andrew2013-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • I definitely recommend staying at one of Peyton's cottages. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and will be staying there again. Everything you need is pretty much walking distance here. The cottage looks like something out of a magazine, with an ivy wrapped facade, updated modern bathroom, and very tasteful furnishings and decor. Peyton and Kenny were extremely helpful in making our weekend enjoyable. They made multiple suggestions that made our stay much better. We hit some wineries while we were out there, and Kenny was even kind enough to get us some free tastings. Definitely check out their furnishing and design store Peyton's Place which has a lot of unique/eclectic pieces.

  • Wonderful hosts - ready for our arrival, just as described. Perfect location and accommodation for our last minute weekend get-a-way to wine and hiking country.

    Stephen2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Peyton was very pleasant to communicate with and present when I had any questions. The place was clean and tidy with a compliment of kitchen utensils and supplies for those more interested in eating in. There are plenty of places and wineries to explore just a short drive from the room.

    Evan2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Fourth stay with Peyton- always clean, comfortable, and stylish. Keep us coming back to The Plains!

    Annie2018-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Kenny (Peyton's husband) was an excellent host. He even invited my puppy to play with his dogs! The Plains is a very safe and quaint town.

    Christina2016-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We were moved/upgraded to a larger space -- a whole home. A very interesting and comfortable place. Safety and security absolutely no concern whatsoever. We weren't there to explore Plains -- rather get to Jiffy Lube Live about 20 minutes away. If you're there for antiquing or winery hopping, Plains is a great location and Peyton's places are wonderful. Otherwise the town is pretty sleepy and not much going on.
