My ancestral home is located in a Bengali village called Amadpur. It has many temples, and ancestral homes. -Memary train station is 10 minutes from my place. - A popular market place is 10 minutes from my place. - The Palsit Toll Tax is 15 minutes from my place. - Azad Hind Dhaba, Gopalpur is 30 minutes from my place. -Kolkata takes 1 hr 30 minutes from my place
  • Chaudhury House has been a spectacular experience for us. About 2 hours from Kolkata but it is a world apart. The house is tastefully renovated retaining many of the old charms and yet very comfortable. Rooms are big, bright and airy - you don't necessarily need AC. There is a huge pond good for swimming and fishing. Apart from the temples adjacent to the house there are a few other temples in the vicinity. We also enjoyed walking around the place to enjoy the beauty of rural Bengal abundant in the place. The team of Ashish, Srikanta, Laxmi, and Hara Thakur deserves a very special mention. They took care of us as if we were a family. Ashis is a good singer and entertained us one evening. Hara Thakur is a splendid cook and food was a sheer luxury for those two days. Shiladitya came down one day to tell us about the history of the place I have stayed in many B&Bs throughout the world but this one is very special. I laud Shiladitya's efforts to give access to his ancestral property to get a sense of the old ways. We look forward to returning to this place.
