Parc
“This hike is all-time. A series of connected trails that can be done independently or together for a 11 mile loop. The hike takes you along a ridge line down into a valley/meadow and back up top. It has some steep sections and can be slightly vigorous during the ascents. Entire loop can be easily done at a leisurely pace in 5 hours. This is the hike that spawned the purchase of the cabin!”

Campground
“Home of the legendary fairy stones, this park is well known for its 168-acre lake adjoining Philpott Reservoir. The park is just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Attractions include cabins, a campground, group camping, an equestrian campground, a conference center, hiking trails, lake swimming, rowboats, canoes, paddle boats, kayaks, picnicking and two playgrounds, including one in the water. This 4741 acre state park is named for the nearby natural minerals that often overlap to form cross-like crystals that are called fairy stones. These can freely be collected at a gas station on the right hand side of the road right before you reach the park entrance. Once you arrive, you might be able to push through a text from a cell phone, but your phone is unlikely to pick up a signal worth using. The lake is the heart of the park, and features a beach monitored by a lifeguard, a large shower house, a gift shop/concession stand, and nearby picnic shelters. ”

“Explore the historic Mabry Mill, perhaps the most iconic structure on the entire Blue Ridge Parkway. Experience live milling demonstrations, as this gristmill still grinds flour more than a century since its original construction! See the nearby Matthews Cabin, blacksmith shop and interpretive area. Here, National Park Service staff conducts demonstrations on blacksmithing, carding, spinning, basket making and other traditional Appalachian crafts. On Sundays throughout the summer, local folk and mountain music performers appear live here as well!”

Wines are made from honey & traditionally known as meads, highlighting the floral characteristics of honey, rather than its sweetness. Free tastings are offered on select weekends.
