“The USS Iowa is a maritime museum located at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. USS Iowa (BB-61) is the lead ship of her class of battleship and the fourth in the United States Navy to be named after the state of Iowa. Owing to the cancellation of the Montana-class battleships, Iowa is the last lead ship of any class of United States battleships and was the only ship of her class to have served in the Atlantic Ocean during World War II.”

“Spending the night in Catalina (the lovely island off the coast) is a great idea, but we're so close to the boat that makes the channel crossing that you can easily take the first boat out in the morning and the last boat home in the evening. It's not expensive, there's a ton to do in Catalina, and you'll be out in the open ocean for about a half an hour each way. So fun!”
