Ardwall Lodge is situated on a working farm outside the beautiful village of Gatehouse of Fleet. It is conveniently located next to the A75 from which you can explore the whole of Dumfries and Galloway. The area has wonderful beaches, lochs and mountains which are all close by. We are 2 miles from Laggan Outdoor and GG's Yard. And close to many other local attractions.
The cottage has two bedrooms - one has a kingsize bed and the other has a double. There is also a double sofabed in the living room. As well as this there a small box room which has been set up with a travel cot and night light.
  • Belle petite loge impeccable, l'hôte avait ajouté de nombreuses touches supplémentaires. Super séjour

    Shell2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Super petit chalet.

Dogs & children welcome. Fully Managed & more infor on website. Other check-in days may be possible. Please enquire.
Owl Cote is in a rural location, with the last mile of the drive only accessible on an unmade up hard surface track. Slow driving speed is necessary. Beautiful area for star gazing as no light pollution. It is an area of unspoilt natural beauty but equally it is within a short distance to the towns of Gatehouse, Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas where everything is available. Within the grounds, but totally separate is a small Bothy - The "Birds Nest" which sleeps 2. This can be rented as additional space or booked separately. Both properties may have flexible arrival dates if a request is sent and we will try and assist.
The coastline here is magical and the sunsets and clean and clear light has attracted Artists to this area for years - it will be easy to understand why when you visit. We enjoy a micro climate with warm air from the Gulf of Mexico, making botanical gardens bloom and a generally mild year round climate (for Scotland!). There is so much to do and see in the immediate area. For up to date listings, check Dumfries & Galloway Whats on.

Original features have been retained, resurrected, and opened up where possible. In the living room there is a huge fireplace that would originally have housed a range, now with a wood burning stove. There is also a wood burning stove in the kitchen diner. Original shutters have been opened up and there are the remains of a flagstone floor in the hallway. After rewiring the electrics and replacing all the plumbing the eaves have been filled with real wool insulation. There are views across open fields and the cattle may nose over the fence to see what you are up to in the garden. There are two pergolas created in the garden areas. One beside the house and one in the garden opposite, both have seating areas so you can enjoy eating outside for family meals or breakfast. Sit out after dark and enjoy the stars on a clear night. There are often bats to watch on warmer evenings and owls in the nearby woodland to listen out for. There is a cosy bird hide to sit in and watch the fun activities of the large, local sparrow population and you may well spot a vole or two nip in and out of the dry stone dyke wall. There are newts in the garden to look out for too. Bring your binoculars to watch the bird world from the bedroom windows.
The wonderful Solway Coast is close by with sandy beaches and rugged cliff tops to explore, while inland is the vast expanse of the Galloway Forest Park so there is much to see and do in the area. The attractive cove at Brighouse Bay is minutes away by car, you can walk there along public footpaths direct from the cottage if you feel like a good stretch. There are many beautiful beaches to choose from most within 30 minutes of Borgue. The area has wonderful sporting facilities including game, sea and coarse fishing. Kirroughtree, part of the Galloway Forest offers a stage of the 7stanes Mountain Bike trail, with others a little further afield at Dalbeattie, Mabie Ae Forests. There are numerous opportunities for walking be your preference for beach cliff top walks or more strenuous hill walking. Golfing is available at Brighouse Bay or there are numerous courses within Dumfries and Galloway all within easy reach. The nearest town, Kirkcudbright caters well for visitors. It becomes a busy little place in the summer months. National Trust run Broughton House and Garden is well worth a visit for the garden alone. A multi million pound Gallery opened up in the summer of 2018. There are many areas of conserved architecture to wander around and welcoming cafes to rest at. Kirkcudbright has a busy working harbour and marina and the boats are a very impressive sight when alongside. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants for an evening meal. There is also a hotel in the village of Borgue that does meals. Maybe best to book in advance in the busy seasons because it can be difficult to get a table but the very welcoming hosts will try and fit you in. There are too many enjoyable leisure activities around Kirkcudbrightshire to list here but some of the biggest draws are; Forests galore to enjoy and walk through. Walk to the top of Kirkcudbright to Barhill Forest about 10 minutes from the centre. There you will find a bird hide with squirrel feeding stations. The Red Squirrels rarely disappoint and the bets are you will see at least one. Many beaches to sunbathe on, have picnics, beach comb. Most allow dogs off lead. Most are wonderfully quiet out of season. Some well loved hills to get to the top of to enjoy breathtaking views. Feel welcome at the Galloway towns of Castle Douglas, (great independent shops, very good cafes), historic Gatehouse of Fleet, Kirkcudbright has lots on throughout the year for locals and visitors alike including; Jazz Festivals, Parades,Tattoo night, Scottish nights, plant fairs, farmers markets, Art and Craft trails. Dumfries and Galloway was voted holiday destination of the year in 2016 Head up to Scotland, cross the border in the west and let everything go as you discover Dumfries & Galloway. The first thing you'll notice is just how beautiful this part of lowland Scotland is, with an undulating coastline of rocky shoreline and sandy beaches, whilst inland, there are acres of forest and green spaces. Want the rush of flying through woodland trails on a mountain bike? Or why not make a splash as you try windsurfing or yachting? With lots of activities on offer, Dumfries & Galloway is pretty much one big adventure playground, but there are plenty of options for gentle walks or cycles too. And when it comes to culture, this region knows how to pack a punch. Each year kicks off with the vibrant Big Burns Supper in January, and the months after are peppered with dedicated celebrations for arts & crafts, performing arts, literature and sport, not to mention some of Scotland's coolest music festivals.

Middle cottage is a modern wing of our 19th century house, nestled within farmland in a secluded and rural location, with distant views of the Cumbrian fells and the Isle of Man. We think our location is very special. Our cottage is comfortable, spacious and well equipped, with attention to detail to ensure our guests have a truly memorable stay.
We have sociable, open plan living, eating and dining accommodation which links to the landscape through ceiling to floor windows. There is an abundance of wildlife to be viewed from your armchair. The bright shower room has a power shower and the bedroom has a comfy, super king bed; this can be split into 2 single beds if required. There is ample room for a toddler bed or cot. We want you to be able to appreciate our location as much as we do, so encourage you to spend time in and exploring our garden with lawns, wildlife area, burns and animals. But if you want to just sit back and enjoy the view then there is a patio accessed from the living space.
The local area has a lot to offer; there are outside activities, history and art and many festivities on going across the year. There are many interesting, independent businesses for shopping and food and drink. We are happy to help you plan your stay, sharing local knowledge on the best places to visit.

Beautiful traditional seaside cottage with stunning views
We have recently bought the house - it was very much love at first sight. We had been getting to know the area for the previous few years and loved holidaying here. Kirkcudbright (3 miles away) is a fantastic, vibrant town, always with plenty going on and many excellent and interesting local independent shops at its heart. This is coupled with its incredible artistic legacy and thriving arts scene. When we first visited for a week we didn't even leave the town as there was so much to see and explore. There is fascinating history in the Tolbooth, Castle, Stewartry museum and in the buildings all around; there are great local walks; fabulous food to be bought (including the best lamb chops i think i have ever tasted); lovely pubs and restaurants for a quiet afternoon pint or a good meal and a municipal swimming pool. There are beautiful art galleries and gems such as the National Trust for Scotland’s Broughton House previously owned by ‘Glasgow boy’ E.A Hornel. Nearby is the Cocoa Bean Factory and The Cream of Galloway (both offering excellent entertaining days out with children), Threave castle, a myriad of beaches and coves, interesting towns and villages including Castle Douglas, Wigton, Rockcliffe, Kippford and slightly further afield there is literally endless possibilities - favourites of ours include the internationally renowned gardens at Logan, beautiful Portpatrick (with Knockinaam lodge very near for serious food), Drumlanrig castle and Loch Arthur Camphill Community to name a few - and no doubt many many more. It really is a fabulous area to enjoy and explore! When we saw Nun Mill House we realised its location was extremely special - a literal stone’s throw from the shore, a beautiful large beach literally 2 minutes walk away and stunning southerly views down the Dee estuary and out to sea. It is a wonderful character property that was fully and sympathetically renovated by its previous owner 25 years ago; someone who clearly loved and cherished it. We should note in places its a bit dated, and the carpet edges maybe a bit frayed here and there but not to a level that detracts and it is certainly a very comfortable, charming home and one we really looking forward to holidaying ourselves in over the years. A minor road runs to the front and side/rear of the house and the garden is largely enclosed but is not toddler proof. Over this road it is a bit of a scramble directly to the shore and short walks both ways to sandy beaches. For those less inclined to scramble a 2-3 minute along gives you easy access to both beaches in either direction. It has a coal fire in the dining room and we have recently re-lined the chimney. There is a good 4G signal with Vodafone from the front garden/front windows and patchy with BT (but good on the shore just to the front of the house). There are 2 main bedrooms (one with a king and a single), the other with a double. There is extra pull out single bed which we usually leave in the Sunroom but can be moved as required. There is also a travel cot. The views out onto the estuary and to sea are simply stunning from all the front downstairs and upstairs rooms. We hope you love it as much as we do… James, Emma and nippers

Alma is a traditional Galloway “road mans” cottage built around 1870 which has been in our possession twice having been our first house purchase,. The opportunity to repurchase 3 years ago required no hesitation & it will always hold a very special place in our hearts.
Martin & Michelle are your hosts at the Borgue Hotel which is 2 minutes walk. A friendly village pub with a great selection of drink & delicious home cooked meals.

A bientôt Bruce

  • Absolument adorable. While the beautiful building that is Knockbrex Castle (See Website) undergoes a full restoration, visitors to this wonderful area can still stay within the grounds. Set next to the Castle itself is this charming cottage in the private gardens of the Castle . With ample parking right outside, the area is a walkers and biking paradise and just a short walk to the beach. Travel a little to sample the delights of the local Cream O'Galloway Ice Cream Co. or the Chocolate of the Cocoabean Company.

The Bothy is a modern self-contained studio attached to the owner's home. An old stone bothy converted in 2017, the accommodation offers a private open plan space with it's own entrance, patio garden and parking. Situated on a smallholding looking out to sea in a beautiful region on the Solway coast, secluded beaches and coves are only a 15 minute stroll and the artists town of Kirkcudbright a short drive away. We offer 20% discounts for weekly stays.
The Bothy is an open plan studio featuring a cosy sitting area with sea views from the patio doors, a compact fully equipped kitchen, spacious king size bed and bathroom with large shower cubicle. An old stone bothy for farm workers in the 19th century, it has been converted with attention to detail retaining many character features. It benefits from modern touches and is highly insulated making it a quiet space, warm in winter and cool in summer and has underfloor heating and an electric stove. The Bothy is compact but feels light and spacious with it's high ceiling and is comfortable for 2 guests. The addition of a unique double loft bed means it offers twin accommodation, or can accommodate 2 extra guests, the loft being ideal for children over 12 and those with a head for heights (see other things to note).
Kinganton is a 15 acre smallholding looking out to sea where we grow our own organic vegetables and keep ducks and sheep as pets. Our land features ancient oak trees, a bluebell wood, a seasonal pond and springs, with wild visitors including Roe deer, red squirrels and hares plus a variety of birdlife including owls and red kites, plus a regular visiting peacock. With sandy beaches, rocky coves and a few surprising old ruins by the sea just a few minutes stroll away, plus walks in the rolling hills and woods around us, there’s plenty to explore on foot, or bike, right from the door. We’re also ideally situated to explore this unspoilt region of South West Scotland. The Artist’s Town of Kirkcudbright with it’s harbour, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and calendar of events is 8 miles away, as is the picturesque village of Gatehouse of Fleet. The Galloway mountains and forests are just a few miles inland offering great walking, mountain bike trails and watersports at Loch Ken. The area is also recognised for its clear skies as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, and the first Dark Sky Park in the UK.
