Studio apartment in separate building with stunning outdoor deck and pool views of the mountains and Ventura River Valley. Located on a permaculture native plant farm noted for its natural beauty by artists, photographers. AIR IS CLEAR!
Guest House at Euterpe Farms Welcome! We hope you enjoy your stay in this beautiful part of the world. I'm so happy to be able to share this property with people of like mind...who care about natural beauty and the creative nature of people. We respect the local Ojai Valley rules regarding vacation rentals. There are no vacation rentals allowed in the City of Ojai. In the unincorporated area outside of town, where we are, only "home shares" are allowed. This means owner-occupied. We respect the concerns of some members of our government and community regarding unregulated vacation rentals, and ask our guests to be good representatives of the exciting new sharing economy. Smitty West Here’s some information and tips to help make your stay easier. Pool Area Enjoy one of the great experiences of Ojai….the pool at Euterpe Farms with White Ledge Peak of the Transverse Ranges at sunset! It’s full of mineral water drawn from the earth at the windmill. Very lightly treated, your skin will feel great afterwards. We’ll show you how to use the hot tub on request! There’s an icemaker and refrigerator on the terrace under the pergola on the way to the pool There are pool towels for you, and just let us know if you need more. Wildlife Euterpe Farms has a 1000’ fenced border and 180 degree view of the beautiful Ojai Land Conservancy’s Ventura River Preserve, and the two million acre Los Padres National Forest. This beautiful, diverse, and wild country is home to an amazing assortment of wildlife found nowhere else. This is THEIR home, and WE are the visitors here on the edge of this wilderness. Be respectful of this fact and you will be rewarded with close-up view of an amazing assortment of plants and wildlife. Some of the larger animals you may see: deer, coyote, fox, snakes, bobcat, mountain lion, bear. Bird watchers will LOVE the diversity. We encourage raptors, and you may see or hear several types of owls, hawks, and other birds of pretty. There is usually a resident barn owl in the brown owl house in the tree in the middle of the circle driveway. You can see her pellets on the ground below. With big animals come small animals, so if you like lizards, spiders, snakes and other crawlies, you’ll love it as much as the animals that eat them. If you don’t, well, you might have to live with them, because there’s 2 million acres of their home right next door! We try to maintain a no-kill philosophy on the property, and we have only seen one poisonous snake. Best advice: Enjoy the wildlife, but don’t handle it! Vegetable Garden and Orchard There’s a vegetable garden on the side yard along the driveway. It is protected from deer by an electric fence which can be unplugged where the extension cord meets the controller in the white bucket. All organic. Help yourself. The orchard is seasonal, we have some type of fruit much of the year, but only a tree or two of each. Naval orange, plums, apricots, cherries, avocado, peaches, figs, blood oranges, grapefruit, white pomegranate. Monarch Butterflies We are a monarch butterfly sanctuary. What this really means is that we nurture and cultivate the Ojai native milkweed species, Asclepias fascicularis…the monarchs do the rest! You will see butterflies most of the spring, summer, and fall, and then they overwinter in groves along the California coast. While they enjoy nectar from the variety of wildflowers on the farm, they only lay their eggs on milkweed…so it is vital to their dwindling populations. Consider purchasing a milkweed while you are here to take home. Norman Speaking of animal life, our resident black lab, Norman, welcomes you as well. He is well-behaved, and may bark at you when you arrive, or at the coyotes if they come on the property, but is as kind and sweet as any canine you may meet. He loves the pool, so if you want him to join you, you won’t have any problem. If not…a firm “no” will usually let him know who’s boss. Chickens Our hens think they rule the roost. They kinda do. You are welcome to eggs. They lay during the warm months, usually late in the morning. We let them out sometimes in the late afternoon when Norman can watch them. There’s no rooster so they shouldn’t spoil your sleep. They are named for famous heroines and musical chicks, “Rox-Hen”, “Re-Peck-ah”, “Yolk-O Ono”, “Lay-la”, “Buffy” …you get the idea. You may change their names at your desire. Climate and Comfort Ojai has a reputation in California for being blazing hot, but that isn’t really true, with a few exceptionally hot spells each year. Here at the Farm, during the summer months we are rewarded with a beautiful Pacific marine layer breeze every afternoon, and the average summer daytime temperature is 90 degrees. The winters are mild, but sometimes chilly at night. The wall furnace has a thermostat under the access panel at the bottom. You’ll be very comfortable with a setting between 1 and 3 (out of ten). There are two black marks to make these settings easier to see. If the pilot goes out, and you need help lighting it, let us know. Sometimes during offshore wind conditions, it does get BLAZING HOT for several days at a time. If you are lucky enough to be visiting during one of these spells (we may get two or three of them per year and it can be over 100 degrees), remember that it does cool off at night, so open the windows and night and shut them in the morning as the day warms up. There is an attic fan that can add to your cross breeze, and a portable air conditioner that will take the edge off. But the best solution is a dip in the beautiful swimming pool, and planning an evening poolside until the stars come out. That said, chances are that you will have fantastic weather, any time of the year, and use the windows to moderate your temperature, and enjoy the porch. Indoor Living Ojai is all about outdoors, but you’ll find a lot of indoor conveniences here: Refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, service for small groups, satellite TV with surround sound, wifi, a desk area, books….etc. If you’re here for more than a few days, and need anything (cooking utensils, iron and iron board, guitar) just text or ask Smitty. Plumbing Euterpe Farms is on a green septic system. If it didn’t come out of your body or off the roll of supplied septic-safe tissue, it doesn’t go in the toilet. Trust us…we will find out! Solar and Wind and Water The little faucet next to the sink delivers you unlimited delicious and “world famous” Euterpe Farms windmill mineral water. This water is purchased by thousands of fans at our roadside tienda (farm stand) as their exclusive drinking water. Delicious, untreated and pure mineral water. It is raised by the power of the wind from our 1926 Aeromotor windmill from an isolated aquifer under this portion of Meiners Oaks. The farm has a 8500 kilowatt solar generating system, making power from Ojai’s most precious asset, our sunshine. Bees We’re doing our part to help sustain healthy communities of honeybees here at Euterpe Farms. Their hives are very obvious off to the cliff side near the windmill. No one has been bitten that wasn’t messing around with their hives. No one HASN’T been bitten who WAS messing around with them. Your choice. You’ll see them on the wildflowers around the Farm. Tip your hat and say thank you (or “gracie”… they are an Italian variety), and they won’t bother you. Hikes We recommend the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy’s beautiful Ventura River Preserve. Walk or drive the one-half mile north on Rice Rd. to the trailhead. There is a private semi-improved trail that starts out near the windmill. It’s a steep climb down steps carved into the hillside, and then you follow deer and coyote trails to the public trails…10 minutes away. Another favorite is the Shelf Road Trail in Downtown Ojai, accessible by trailhead at the top of Signal Street. Rose Valley Falls is about 30 minutes up the 33 in the beautiful mountains above Ojai. There is a Forest Service Office in Ojai’s East End with lots of maps, books, and information about the Los Padres National Forest. General Safety Euterpe Farms is a working farm. That means there are farm tools, farm work, and multiple hazards that you won’t find in most “vacation spots.” This is the beauty and uniqueness of this special place, but please use common sense and understanding. As a guest here in the Guest House, you are welcome to the apartment and beautiful deck, and non-exclusive use of the pool. You may walk the grounds but please respect the privacy of the occupants of the main house. Besides being a native plant farm, any portion of the grounds and pool area may be in use for other purposes such as parties and music events, filming, music recording or rehearsal, photography, plein air painting, and private use by the owner, Smitty West. Please be respectful of the privacy and business of the other people enjoying the Farm. The property requires regular land care, pool service, gardening, and farming that may be occurring at any time, so if you see our happy grounds manager, Urbano….say hola! Smitty also enjoys doing work around the farm, and he may offer you a tour. Parking Please park on the dirt area at the bottom of the stairs. Do not block the garage doors or the paved circle so delivery and service vehicles can come and go. The beautiful 450-year old oak tree in the front of the main house will thank you as well! Smitty West The owner and caretaker of Euterpe Farms, is singer/songwriter Smitty West. If he’s around, he’s a very friendly fellow who might want to share a story or hike with you. (URL HIDDEN) If he is on the property, he loves meeting our guests and helping you enjoy your stay. You can hear him sing with his partner Julija Zonic at The Vine wine bar in downtown Ojai Saturdays from 5:00-7:00pm. Some of their CDs are on display in the room for purchase. Dining Some of our favorites for quick, local bites: Meiners Oaks ( ½ mile north on Rice turn left on El Roblar Ave.) Papa Lennon’s – delicious, fresh food, pizza, pasta… counter service Don LaLo’s – Mexican, fresh, yummy Ranch House – famous for gourmet fine dining Farmer and the Cook: Grocery and counter restaurant…organic and local Downtown Ojai Suzanne’s Cuisine…fine dining Feast Bistro…fusion dishes by acclaimed chef Susan…say hi from Smitty Ojai Pizza – Yep….Pizza and families! This water is brought to you from a pure underground aquifer that underlies this area west of Krotona Hill. The reservoir is mapped by geologists to be fault-separated from the municipal wells in the Ventura River bottom, and in a completely different aquifer. The well underlies the windmill you see in the field in front of you. Taste it, you’ll love it. So will your dog or horse, so let them have some too! This water has been lifted by the power of the wind! Before you is a 1920s-vintage, restored Chicago Aermotor A602 windmill. It was salvaged from a farm near Santa Paula, and put back into service to lift the water that nurtures the young native plants here at Euterpe Farms. This machine is a thing of mechanical beauty and simplicity. It slowly and deliberately lifts the water from the earth every afternoon in the ocean breezes that move up the Ventura River as the Ojai Valley heats up in the sunshine. The machine is self regulating, turning to catch light breezes, but folding her tail to take the sails out of the wind in heavy winds. Every stroke lifts about two cups of water six inches. It sounds slow, but if the wind blows all day, it will fill one of the tanks you see next to the tower. There’s a pond next to the well to catch the overflow on really windy days. Look closely for wildlife around the pond, including deer and bobcat. What about when there’s no wind? The farm has installed a solar photovoltaic grid on the south side of the farmhouse. Every sunny day, our electric meter runs backwards! The small pressure pumps that help the windmill during low wind, and pressurize the water in the irrigation system draw on this power. We also have a solar water heating system made from recycled equipment from the 70s and 80s. We try to keep a low carbon footprint here at Euterpe Farms! Want more than a sip? There’s a tap for your larger water bottles next to the drinking fountain. If you would like to fill water bottles, we would ask that you make a donation in the cash box to help keep Euterpe farms eco-friendly, organic and natural. What is “Euterpe ?” Actually, “WHO is Euterpe ("you-TER-pee")? In Greek mythology, she is one of the Muses, the daughters of Mnemosyne, fathered by Zeus. Called the "Giver of Pleasure", she was the muse of music. The Muses dancing with Apollo The Muses are goddesses or spiritual guides who embody the arts and inspire the creative process with their graces through song and stage, writing, music and dance. They were water nymphs, associated with the springs of Helicon and Pieris. Here she is in a list with her sisters •Calliope Chief of the muses and muse of epic poetry •Euterpe muse of lyric song •Clio muse of history •Erato muse of erotic poetry •Melpomene muse of tragedy •Polyhymnia muse of sacred song •Terpsichore muse of dance •Thalia muse of comedy and bucolic poetry •Urania muse of astronomy Euterpe Music Company is the name of our music recording and publication company.
If you hate animals and nature, you will hate it here. If dark nights full of stars, or blinding full moons scare you, stay away! If the sound of coyotes, owls, crickets, frogs...scare you, stay in the city! A birdwatcher's dream. A native plant enthusiast's Eden. If you love music, consider booking during our concert series, when you will hear local Ojai Valley songwriters performing at the stage under the oaks...second Tuesday of the month between April and October.
  • I am excited to leave another very positive review for Smitty and his AirBnB! This was the best place to decompress after weeks of business travel, and as a first experience in the beautiful world of Ojai. The property is expansive, lush and well-cared for. If you show up before sunset and Smitty has the time, do take him up on his tour of the property where you might sample some fresh snow peas right from the stem or a fresh strawberry or freshly-laid egg. The view of the mountains from any point of the property, particularly the deck (where I spent most of my decompression time) was amazing and spoke to the part about "heaven on earth." I learned about oak trees, and saw and smelled wisteria, lavender and thyme. It's just minutes away from Ojai proper and the part of Ojai Ave where all the shops are. With a kitchen in the apt, you can pickup wine in town, maybe some protein from Rainbow's Bridge, and pull butter lettuce straight from the ground from one of many of Smitty's gardens. This experience has made me appreciate the virtues of farm to table and of disconnecting from the bustle of city and work life. Thank you Smitty! We will see you again soon.

  • Just the most magical stay. Host had such a great vibe and was very accommodating. Highly recommend Smitty! I'll be going back for sure

  • What an amazing place! We came to Ojai for work with no time to relax but Smitty's place really made us feel like we were on vacation with the beautiful surroundings and cozy apartment. We arrived much later than we expected on a Friday night and Smitty was very accommodating to our delayed schedule and was in contact the entire time to make sure we had everything we needed when we got there. On Sunday he offered to let us stay after checkout go enjoy the pool and property. We traveled with our three month old daughter and the quiet apartment with large balcony was perfect. She slept straight through the night. Truly a gem of a spot. We will be back.

  • Smitty was a great host for my girlfriend and I. He gave us a tour of the farm and was extremely pleasant and helpful. The trip was incredible and the guest house perfect for a get away. We took a two hour hike (without map) and saw some beautiful views. The guest house was perfect for us to cook and there were also places to eat in the nearby town. The views all weekend will not soon be forgotten. Thank you smitty, we will be seeing you again!

  • We had a wonderful time here. Smitty was a wonderful host, and made us feel right at home. The space was comfortable and clean. Very easy to live in and cook in. The grounds were beautiful, great gardens and wildlife, Smitty even said we could cook from the garden! I would definitely stay here again, supremely satisfied!

  • Smitty was a wonderful host and we loved staying with him. He sent us thorough information pre-trip, and gave us a great tour of the property when we arrived! The lodging itself is a cozy loft-like space. Two highlights of our stay: watching a mind-blowing sunset from the hot tub, and hiking on the trail that starts right in his back yard and goes far back into the canyon. I plan to come again!

    Sarah2016-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy retreat in a beautiful setting. Smitty was a great host. Always available for questions or to offer suggestions for hiking trails. Near town, but secluded and quiet. After a week we returned home refreshed.

  • We had a great stay at Smittys place in Ojai! It was picture perfect. The suite was quaint and well furnished. The pool and jacuzzi were amazing. Our stay was not long enough, I will definately be back.

Our place is a large studio with a porch, living area, loft with additional bed, kitchen, and bath. Included are all the basics for a comfortable stay. Rejuvenate the senses in a park like setting. Los Olivos and Solvang are an easy 5 mile drive. Golf courses too!
Our ranch has chickens and a few heifers. Take in the open space and room to roam. It feels like your miles and miles from civilization but are only five minutes from town. We are next door to the best wineries in Santa Barbara County. If you like to cook, we supply the cookware and there are some great markets nearby. Pick fresh vegetables from our organic garden when in season. We have a few fruit trees too.
The area is very friendly to tourists. The Danish town of Solvang is a major attraction to tourists from around the world. There are 100s of wineries and a casino near by. If you like to golf, 4 golf courses are available in the area.
  • Rene and Marcia are wonderful hosts, with an incredible property to stay on. It is a beautiful home and environment, with a very relaxed and tranquil feel to it all. Being so close to a winery was an added bonus and their generosity was much appreciated! I would definitely return and stay with them again!

  • If you come to wine country, this is a MUST!!! The property and views are amazing. It is central to so many incredible vineyards/wineries, Solvang, Santa Ynez and Los Olivos. Just a short (amazingly beautiful) drive in all directions. The cabin was cozy and absolutely perfect. We will certainly, without any hesitation, be returning!

  • My wife and I spent a very relaxing 3 nights here. The house is on a 20-acre ranch. It was great to be surrounded by nature. You could take walks on the property (bring close-toed shoes), sit out on the porch on the swinging bench, grill food, or spend time in the house/cabin, itself. The house was very clean and spacious, and the bed was comfortable. Marcia and Renee were very friendly. Marcia showed us the animals on the ranch, gave us a tour of their garden, and told us we could pick vegetables from it. She gave us some of their chicken's eggs to cook, too! It was great to sit out on the porch with chirping birds and rustling leaves being the only sounds around. Highly recommended.

    Chris2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great Airbnb. We loved the location - it is very quiet and peaceful, but just a short 10 minute drive from everything in the area. The place is a stand-alone large studio that is clean and well-appointed. (We particularly liked the big, soft towels!) The studio is near the main house but still felt private. It was fun to walk around the property - it felt very secluded and there are fantastic views. Rene and Marcia were also so nice. Recommended.

    Connie2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • What a delight to open the door of this cabin and find everything spacious, clean and cosy! Despite arriving after dark, we found our way using GPS easily. There was more than enough space to unpack everything and put it away and a luggage stand for the suitcase. If it had been cooler, we definitely would have lit the log waiting in the wood-burning stove. We enjoyed hearing nearby owls throughout the evening. We slept well in the comfortable bed; we have a thing for good bedding and this bed was just like home. Marcia left coffee, creamer, tea and croissants so in the morning, it was easy to whip up some breakfast in the tidy little kitchen. There was also filtered water in case we didn’t want to drink the well water, which we really appreciated. All the furniture and appliances are in very good condition or new, not always the case in such an affordable rental. The amenities and the water pressure in the shower were really satisfying. Lots of interesting books around, and every little thing we could have needed. The ranch consists of 20 rolling acres of oak trees, meadows and pastures; all very inviting for an easy hike. It was fun to see chickens, sheep and heifers, really took us away from everyday pressures. We could have put a blanket on the grass and just relaxed all day in complete solitude, but we drove the short distance to Solvang to charge our car, shop and have lunch. The roads around the ranch are smooth, perfect for cycling or running in complete tranquility. Marcia and Rene were on hand with suggestions for restaurants and such, but gave us all the privacy we wanted for my birthday weekend. They are delightfully easygoing hosts and felt like long-time friends. We’re hoping to get back soon for another time-stopping weekend!

    Lisa2018-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic spot! We wanted to escape to a quiet spot to get away from the fireworks and this was it. The property is beautiful and the accommodations were perfect. The proximity to Solvang and Los Olivos is quite convenient, as well. Very easy to pop into town for a wine tasting or a bite to eat. Great stay! Marcia and Rene were generous hosts and so was their resident hen. She left us some eggs!

    Kaci2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Rene & Marcia for hosting us in Solvang. The property & cottage are wonderful and the views are breathtaking. We enjoyed morning coffee on the porch and evening wine on the bench perched on the hill overlooking the wine country. We even enjoyed making friends with the chicken, heifers & pups! This experience exceeded all of our expectations and we look forward returning again soon. Thanks again! ~ Dion & Scott

    Dion2018-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Rene was a great host and provided lots of helpful information including detailed arrival instructions and local tips for wineries in the area. His wife met us and showed us where we could explore on the property. The location is very nice, in between Solvang and Los Olivos, and its possible to walk to Rusack for a tasting. The guest house is cozy and has everything we needed. The space might be perfect for 2 but can work for 4 as well, with a loft. Thanks Rene! We would recommend this property to our friends.

  • The pictures of this cottage do not mislead. It backs up to a beautiful vineyard/winery and is truly a lovely and peaceful retreat for a couple. The cottage is cleverly laid out to make the most of space and showcase the view. We especially enjoyed sitting out on the back patio or at the table in front of the picture windows overlooking the vineyard. James compares the view to France, and having rented a property in Burgundy last summer, I have to say it comes close! When we were making our choice, we were a little concerned that this property would be too far out of the towns to fully enjoy the area, but it was easy to get everywhere we wanted to go and we were glad to have this quiet and peaceful retreat in the mornings and evenings. El Rancho market, which is just a short walk away was also a real gem and much more than a typical grocery store. Their deli supplied our dinner the first night! Everything in the cottage is designed to please the eye and the hosts add a lot of little touches like fresh flowers, robes, soft sheets and towels, and chocolate on the pillows. Just a few things to know, the kitchen is small and only suited to light meal prep, also I would note there is no TV, and the bathroom is rather old school. None of these were a problem for us, but good to know. We had a great time in the area visiting vineyards, the beach, and enjoying local restaurants. I would definitely recommend to any couple looking for a peaceful getaway.

A great value. The description of your house was totally accurate. We’ll return hopefully soon without hesitation. Thank you for your hospitality.

  • A delightful home in a perfect location! This is the place to come to relax and get away from everything. Situated on the edge of a vineyard, spectacular views can be seen through each window. Beautifully and comfortably furnished, not a detail is spared. The perfect place for a romantic getaway!

  • Unbelievably quiet and very relaxing location. The view to the south from the house or deck was great. Really enjoyed Solvang and Los Olivos the latter being our favorite for its charm.

The dining room looks through french doors to the grand 14 foot tall outdoor fireplace on one side, and across the living room to the front fountain and gardens. The relaxing living room is just around the corner from the kitchen for quick refills and enjoys a fireplace and views of the gardens and mountain range in the background. Step out of the inside living and cooking area to the outdoor living and cooking area! A welcoming patio draws you to relax around the central fireplace, prepare your dinner in the outdoor kitchen, and enjoy the hot tub, the fountain, and vineyards close enough to count the grapes! The BBQ area between the pool and patio is a complete outdoor kitchen with sink, refrigerator, burners, storage and a 10 ft natural stone bar. Moving on to the swimming pool area. You can relax in the hot tub first and enjoy the vineyard and mountain views or jump directly in the pool. Maybe take a break in the oversized teak lounges in the shade of the view cabana at sunset with a glass wine. Did we mention there are no bad views anywhere? Expansive manicured grounds with beautiful fountains, fruit trees, lavenders and roses surround the house. 5 acres of pastures and corrals and nearby barn are here to wander. Entering through the grand entry gates and the long winding driveway lined with mature pepper trees leads you to understand you are entering a special place. If you can pull yourself away from Cielito ranch, you can meander down quiet roads to two separate wineries or a lavender farm. Cielito Ranch as an exclusive Please request a custom proposal.

  • What a magnificent weekend! Cielito Ranch exceeded our expectations. I plan to come back and would recommend this to friends.

  • Wow. Just wow. Cielito Ranch was wonderful. Don’t stop to think about it—just go ahead and book this house. This great house is nestled in the middle of vineyards and has a picturesque view of the hills out the back of the house. Add an great outdoor seating area with huge fireplace, grill, hot tub and pool and who needs anything more?! This beautiful home is spotless indoors and offers anything one might need. A well equipped kitchen is important to me and this place delivers. It has an eight burner gas stove, a SubZero fridge, and a wine fridge. Cielito Ranch is well decorated—hello, Restoration Hardware—and lots of extra touches can be found throughout the house. Our family had a wonderful stay, and it won’t be our last visit. Great time!!!

  • The House is stunning. We had air conditioning issue, but I would hope that Mh will take care of that for future guests.

    Jeremy2018-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place was better than the photos. The property is at the end of the street, very private and an incredible view. Love the layout of the house and decor. We enjoyed the landscaping and outdoor areas. It was so relaxing and perfect for our family. I highly recommend it.

  • The house is simply beautiful. The host was quick to answer any questions I had. A perfect vacation spot.

    Teresa2018-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Loved every minute of our weekend! Place was beautiful with better views than some of the local vineyards. Definitely going to come back!

    Hallie2018-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • We just had the most memorable weekend! Every detail of the house has been thoughtfully done. Beautiful artwork. Gorgeous pool. Tricked out kitchen. Close enough to town, but far enough away to feel like you are in the middle of wine country Italy. A spectacular home!

    Sarah2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • The house is absolutely gorgeous! Our group had so much fun in the pool during the day and by the fire at night. The host was so responsive to all my questions and offered great tips about what to do in the area. All instructions for the house were very clear. We had a wonderful weekend and I would recommend the house to anyone in the future. I hope to come back again!!

Ojai is 90 miles north of Los Angeles (100 minutes by car from LAX), and 30 miles east of Santa Barbara. We are 13 miles north of Ventura which is only a 20 minute drive down to the the wonderful Pacific Ocean beaches. For hundreds of years, the area around Ojai was a Chumash Indian spiritual ground. Today the spiritual tradition has been continued by many world famous philosophers (Annie Besant, Aldous Huxley, Krishnamurti), artists (Duchamp, Chagall, Beatrice Wood), awareness/spiritual teachers ( Byron Katie, Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks), and the Theosophy Institute, to name just a few. Sprinkled throughout most of the year, art, music, play writing/theater, yoga, meditation, and other festivals attract people from all over the world. There is also a wonderful tennis tournament and a stellar golf course. The valley’s unique east west orientation (most other USA valleys run north south) floods Ojai with a special light attracting artists in much the same way the east west Hamptons near New York has. The light also accentuates its surrounding majestic mountains and creates its "pink moment" . There are many citrus, avocado, and olive orchard farms thriving in its Mediterranean climate reminding one of Tuscany, Provence and parts of Spain. Hikes in and around Ojai challenge people at different skills levels. Our property is in Ojai’s NW corner just north of its “newly hip” Meiners Oak section.
  • This is a perfect venue for groups or families. Everyone has their own space and the house is perfectly equipped for get-togethers. Ojai is a very special place and this is a very special home.

  • Beautiful house in the mountains surrounded by orchards. It was a blazing hot weekend so we didn't use the hot tub much but otherwise it was great. It was a little tough with kids as I was worried about them damaging the beautiful art, but overall it was a great location and a beautiful house. There were 12 adults and 9 babies so we had a full house but it worked out well

    Minako2015-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a magical place that will win your heart immediately and you'll not want to leave.

    Jodi2016-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • The home was perfect for our family celebration of 8 adults and 6 children including a baby- we rented the house and attached studio . Beautiful setting, many spaces to relax indoors and out, great kitchen with several areas to eat, lovely garden for the kids to play in. We hiked near the house, used the hot tub and BBQ - a very special weekend!

    Stella2016-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful & peaceful place. Pictures represent the property. Of course better in real life. We had a big group coming from different locations. Carol & Aubrey we’re so accommodating with last minutes changes. Hope to go back again.

    Carol2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful family birthday celebration in Ojai. We rented the house and both studios and it was perfect for our family of 12. The house is beautiful and was very clean and comfortable. Carol was a pleasure to work with and Shawn, the farm manager was helpful. We would definitely come back! The swimming creek ended up being too much of a hike for all of us (we had family members ranging from 4- 85) but we enjoyed the jacuzzi and spending time outdoors.

    Rena2016-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous accommodation in an idyllic setting. Thanks Carol and Aubrey for such a pleasant stay! I hope to return again.

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Carol & Aubrey. The studio was exactly as described, the surroundings were lovely, and Ojai was wonderful. Altogether, we were quite pleased.

    Jared2016-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Carol was great. We arrived quite late and she was very accommodating. The place was a perfect get away. Carol checked in with son a number of occasions and there was wonderful guide of what to do in Ojai. We would sty there again in a heartbeat!

  • Beautiful location, clean, nice trails just outside the door as you hike out of the orange and avocado trees - as long as a one room atudio arrangement works for you it's a great deal

    Rael2018-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Carol was such a gracious host! She was quick to answer my calls once I arrived and made sure that I was comfortable. The amenities were all there and felt like a simple calm escape from the city. It took me awhile to activate the heat plate, but that's me being a city person :) also, I wish I could've spent more time outside, the Tree house outside is a magnificent site. There was sweet scent of fruit in the air and birds chirping. The hiking trail is walking distance from the studio. The best mini vacation for a creative individual like myself.

    Drea2016-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • One of my best airbnb experiences. Beautiful home and gorgeous property. A great way to unwind and enjoy Ojai.

    Nirav2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful location on a mountain. If you are not a picky sleeper this would be fine, the beds were futons on the floor and very uncomfortable ones. The Kitchenette is nice if you like to keep a few things cold and prepare light meals for yourself. You are sharing a portion of a larger house so don't be alarmed when you can hear your neighbors .

    Jess2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • This studio is located on a beautiful property - surrounded by orange and avocado trees adn right next to the national forest. It's a lovely peaceful spot with beautiful views. The hosts were welcoming and live on a separate property nearby.

  • The Ahimsa House was great — a perfect escape for a quiet country getaway. There are cows right there on the property grazing, eagles soaring, and all sorts of wild life around. The town of Arroyo Grande is a short drive out about 30 mins, and is great to explore for an afternoon. The house itself was clean, large, and cozy - we used the wood burning fireplace and the charcoal grill and kept it country! Do note, there isn't any cellular reception in the valley where the house is located and also immediate the surrounding local area — there is wifi however. The host Angie was nice, and always quickly responsive to any question we had. We stayed during the Halloween weekend and it was especially nice that the house was decorated for the holiday... Thanks Angie!

    Boris2016-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • The place was beautiful, incredibly scenic with a great vantage point of the rolling green hills and sunset. Be sure to bring lots of food if you plan to stay in all weekend, but if you're looking to go out for activities, I highly recommend going to the local dunes at pismo beach and renting some ATVs or Dune Buggies. It was a really fun group activity. If you're looking to relax at the house, that works too - the wood fireplace and grill and newly renovated kitchen make tucking yourself away from the hustle-bustle of the city a welcome retreat. Angie was responsive and helpful when needed; overall, I highly recommend this Airbnb.

    Hunter2017-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Stay here. The cabin is absolutely gorgeous. The kitchen is awesome. The grounds are beautiful and breathtaking. The drive was a bit more then we expected, but follow the directions from the host and you'll find the place in no time. Bring food as trips to the grocery are a bit much and make use of the kitchen facilities. Check in was really simple. The host is very responsive in communicating.

    Kashyap2017-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Angie was communicative and helpful, her home was beautiful, and the setting was remote and gorgeous. We would stay here again for sure!

    Chris2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved Angie's cabin. It has everything we needed and it couldn't have been in a more beautiful landscape. We'd highly recommend it.

    Josh2016-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful home! We booked this place for my best friends bachelorette party and it was perfect. There was plenty of room for the 8 of us, a gorgeous and updated kitchen for us to cook most of our meals, and a lovely outdoor area to relax and enjoy the quiet. There is no service at all once you start the final drive from Arroyo Grande, but we liked that. There is wifi so you can still keep in touch if you need to. Angie was a wonderful host and answered all questions promptly. It really was a perfect weekend getaway and we would not hesitate to stay there again. I highly recommend her home!

    Jessica2016-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was airbnb was better than expected. I was a little hesitant on it since it was a little way off from where I originally wanted to stay, but my family and I enjoyed our stay so much. Everyone was so surprised at how clean and amazing it was! Definitely worth booking for your trip.

    Darlene2018-09-08T00:00:00Z

This is a quiet country studio. High ceilings with a western decor. We are in a quiet valley, 15 minutes outside the Village of Arroyo Grande...off the beaten path. Relax on the patio, or backyard space. You can even bring your horse(s) and we can stable them for you (contact us for costs to board horses). We have a number of repeat guests and we look forward to hosting you.
Horse Stabling/Boarding: We have an open field and riding arena. We also have grass hay and some supplements available, but prefer if equestrians bring their own feed. Boarding runs about $30/horse per night. We can throw feed and provide water for the horses. We look forward to hosting you AND your animals!
Our home is located in the middle of a scenic valley. Wild deer, turkeys and other critters are regular visitors. An evening walk will almost guarantee a close encounter with these critters. We are centrally located between Lopez Lake and the quaint village of Arroyo Grande.
  • Craig and Jill were amazing host. There was a lot of privacy while we were there and Craig and Jill would often check in through the airbnb app asking if we needed anything. Their studio was clean and inviting and had all the necessary essentials in the bathroom and kitchenette. To top it off, Jill makes amazing chocolate chip cookies!

  • We had the most lovely stay here! The communication was amazing and our hosts were so attentive. The studio was even better than the pictures - everything was perfect! • Jill and Craig were great hosts! This was my first time using Airbnb and they made it super easy. Their home is in a beautiful, quiet setting and kept immaculately clean. It was stocked with snacks and breakfast items (popcorn, oatmeal, coffee/tea, etc.). Cookies upon arrival was a very nice touch! All of the amenities were up to date and extremely functional. It was a great space to relax and unwind!

Many have live music and charcuteries plates during the warmer months. This area is known for Pinot Noir, but there is something for everyone for sure. The Foxen Wine Trail goes from our backyard to Los Olivos and you can easily spend two days exploring it and you will not get to visit all the wineries, tasting rooms, and shops and restaurants of Los Olivos. For a more quick fix, you can head down to Old Town Orcutt just a few miles from our place for walkable dining, wine tasting, and shopping.
  • Very clean house. Snacks, coffee and tea pods were a plus! Wishes we would have had more time to enjoy the outside area. Lovely ranch!

  • Jenna's place was really comfortable and cozy. The three bedrooms were convenient for a group of 6 and the place was well maintained and just as described. The area was also very quiet and we enjoyed a morning stroll. Jenna gave us some tips on wineries to visit and other things we can do in the area. We appreciated her hospitality and even though we got in much later than we had initially thought, it was easy to communicate with her.

  • Jenna was so nice and we really enjoyed our stay. The area is very peaceful.

  • Lovely property in a serene neighborhood. Lots of beautiful horses between the beautiful houses! The guest house is private and nicely decorated. The kitchen has the basics for simple cooking. Comfortable beds, super comfortable couch. Jenna offered a nice selection of breakfast foods. She and her husband were very friendly and welcoming. Our daughter was glad to have a DVD player there since my cell phone didn't work consistently as a hot spot for her wi-fi devices. Jenna also had a few fun-looking board games there. Very nice stay!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at this house - a wonderful open surroundings along with quite and courteous neighborhood! The host Jenna was very helpful to let us know about places that we could visit and the hospitality provided by her was simply exceptional during our stay. I would highly recommend staying at this house, you won't regret it! Thank you Jenna!!

  • We had so much fun during our stay here! The ranch is quiet and secluded but not far from the freeway. Jenna was very responsive and easy to communicate with!

  • We really enjoyed our stay. The house was perfect for our group of 5 adults, a 1-yr old, and 2 dogs. It was very clean, very comfortable, and very well stocked, including treats for everyone, even the dogs. The location is rural and serene, but also very close to some great wineries and an easy drive to shops and restaurants. Jenna is very responsive and welcoming.

  • I stayed with 7 of my girlfriends in Arroyo Grande at Alex's place and it was fabulous! The accommodations were comfortable, spacious and conducive to some serious rest and relaxation. It was an excellent midpoint for those of us from No Cal to rendezvous with our girls from So Cal. We more than enough room to spread out and have meals together. The yard is private, nicely landscaped and rich with hummingbirds. The beds are comfy and all of us women appreciated having many bathrooms to choose from. Alex was informative, attentive and easy to get a hold of both before and during our stay. We are grateful to have had such a positive experience, wonderful memories of wine tasting, game playing and lounging in the sun. We look forward to staying there again!

  • Had a full group (14) here for a small wedding, had originally planned to do the wedding at a nearby park but opted to do it in the backyard of the house as the location was so great and well setup for such events! Alex was very responsive and easy to work with, but the house was clean and well organized such that we didn't need much. The area is quiet, rural and very comfortable. There are plenty of activities to take advantage of at the house (pool, poker table, golf holes...) such that no one was ever bored. We're so happy to have chosen this place, for obvious reasons, it will stay with us for a very long time.

  • This is a huge home that was perfect for my large family. The large back yard was an added bonus - great for chasing dogs and throwing a football. The location is halfway between SF and OC.

I offer a room in my home on our avocado ranch. Its set up as a bed and breakfast. You have access to the whole house, kitchen, front porch and back yard with fire pit lounge. My son and I do live in our home and will be present during your stay. However we are quite busy and am gone a great deal. I have 1 bathroom in the house. So you do not have a private bath. It always seems to work out smoothly. Its peaceful...often referred to as a sanctuary....
This old ranch house is nestled in an Avocado Orchard in a small town outside of Santa Barbara, Ca. Although you have the feel of being far from the craziness of life this peaceful setting is five minutes from downtown Carpinteria and the beaches. Bikes are available to cruise into town on a thursday for farmers market, or take the beach chairs to the beach for the day or to watch the sunset. We welcome our guests with wine and refreshments. Fresh eggs from our chickens, Nellie and Ralphina. We have a ping pong table and dart board to unwind at the end of a long day. Enjoy a campfire and sleep under the stars in a hammock if your heart so desires. Information available for local restaurants, festivals and activities .....Come, relax and enjoy a time away at The RUSTIC AVOCADO RANCH.
For Lee : I am writing in French. So you will have a lot of French guests now !

    Greg2014-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had a very welcoming, warm, enjoyable stay at the ranch. We loved the chalk drawn welcome signs, and that every detail seemed to be covered and taken care of. Fresh eggs and coffee in the morning? Yes, please! Did you forget your contact solution? Well, take some from the complimentary toiletry basket. Oh, thank you, Lee! :) We invited our friends over for wine, avocados, and s'mores over the fire out back. They loved it, too! I'm a gardener. I told my girlfriend that I would *love* to have this sort of space one day to garden and to entertain. The only two drawbacks is that we didn't get a chance to visit with Lee more, and that it was pretty dark in the house. I'd hoped to have breakfast with her before taking off to the triathlon because our encounter was so brief, and I think we're used to our bright and colorful homes. I also know that a 140 year-old house won't necessarily lend itself to bright, cheeriness. We totally recommend you stay at the ranch. We will definitely consider returning if we swing by Carpinteria in the future.

    Kelly2013-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really pleasant stay at the Rustic Avocado Ranch. Lee was very helpful by providing information about the area and her poached eggs were very delicous.

    Philipp2013-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • I very much enjoyed my stay with Lee and her family. They helped me feel right at home. Lee goes out of her way to make your stay extra special, including sending me off with a bag of avocados straight from the orchard. I also very much appreciated their kind-heartedness as they graciously assisted me with a bit of car trouble.

    Leia2013-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • quintessential airBnB gem. Lee's place is on a lovely little Avocado ranch, separate from the town and more residential streets. It's furnished -- including the expansive backyard, where you can eat breakfast -- with a really neat bric-a-brac of collectible/antique type stuff that somehow holds together even though it's very eclectic. And Lee herself is a really warm, lovely hostess -- we arrived late to personalized chalkboard welcome, candies on the bed and stuff to make us feel at home, and then enjoyed a lovely breakfast the following morning. Lee strikes a really good balance of the warmth of being in someone's home and the ease/comfort of being in a place where you're a guest. I'll very happily stay again.

    James2013-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lee was beyond gracious to allow us use of her family home for a few days. She, her family, and friends provided lovely accommodations and laughter. All rooms are well shaded by the surrounding avocado orchard, which makes sleeping-in simple. The grounds are spacious and decorated with pieces collected over the years. We enjoyed spreading out on the property's different settings -- the hammocks, the water tower, the fire pit, the outdoor dinner table, near the chicken coop, and on the front porch. Lee provides great insights about local activities and restaurants. She's a *local expert* and a heck of a host. If you're lucky, you'll get to meet her family members who visit from time to time. There are also wonder pups -- Phoebe and Grace -- who make an appearance. You will be utterly charmed and blessed if you visit. We had such a great time with this family!

    Ashaki2014-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • A friend of mine had a fantastic time staying at the Rustic Avocado Ranch. Truly a special place, the property and house will leave you rested, inspired and wanting to return. Lee was fantastic at the correspondence before our stay, and while she was away during our visit, her friends Emily and Darrell could not have been nicer. From recommending a surf shop to great advice on a brewpub, they quickly made us feel truly at home. If want to meet great people, stay in a rare, unique environment and add a great memory to your trip... you must pick the Avocado Ranch. It is truly one in a million..

    Mike2014-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous place! Wish we could have stayed longer and used the fire pit and sat around and chatted! Everything was beautiful and Lee had thought of every little thing that we might need. She wasn't there to greet us as she had gone to LA for Father's Day, but her son showed us around and made us feel very welcome. This place is like being in the middle of the country, yet you are a few minutes from town.

  • Imagine a rancher's paradise, nestled between iconic vineyards and a stone's throw from the ocean and gorgeous, red-tiled Santa Barbara. With enough preparation (i.e. food and wine), however, there's hardly a reason to leave this property--the pool/spa, propane grill, and pool table are sources of endless fun and entertainment. Check-in is quick and in-person, which may be inconvenient if you're uncertain about your arrival time. That said, Michelle was flexible and the process was smooth. I'd recommend this house to any large groups needing ample space to spread out and relax.

    Eric2017-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures really can’t do justice for the beauty and comfort and style of this home. We stayed out there to celebrate a big milestone birthday for our family matriarch and it was perfect. Spacious, well stocked with any supply you might need, clean, comfortable and peaceful. The outside is equally as well cared for and beautiful as the interior. The location is blissful. Just outside the busier winery area but so close to them all it’s no bother to go for a day at one or more of the local beautiful vineyards and winery locations. The ranch dog, Simba, was so gentle and lovely with our very small children (4 toddlers!) and we enjoyed his periodic and brief visits in between handling his ranch keeping business. Michelle was lovely and helpful. Communication was simple. We had not a single complaint. We loved it. Our kids were all so sad to leave. We were too.

  • Patricia's Dream Ranch is idyllic, nestled in the Huasna Valley south of San Luis Obispo. It's a bit of a trip from 101 to get there, but it's worth the travel. One of the few places left on this planet where you can see the milky way. There are wild animals roaming around the ranch. Bring your horse, if you have one. It's one of the most scenic and serene places I've ever stayed.

Guest apt is a 2bd/1b on the second floor of main ranch house. Come experience the ranch life in SB with our fury family members! It is a private Apt with shared outdoor spaces; pool in the backyard and our animals in the front yard in hope ranch annex area of Santa Barbara. Two minutes drive from the nearest beach, 5 mins from downtown. The Petitte Ranche has a horse, mini donkey, chickens, rabbits, Dog,and cat. It’s a residential, bucolic area within walking distance of all conveniences..
The apt has a treehouse feeling because It has high ceilings and is the only 2 floor In the area. The views are exceptional
It’s a residential neighborhood with a reserve like a nature park across the street With beautiful walking trails. While you probably will see a horse or two.
  • Monique greeted us at the gate for an early check in and showed us around. Perfect, funky spot on a small ranch, exactly as described. Great second floor apartment with everything you'd need. Monique also introduced us to all the animals, coordinating lots of photos with all the various creatures. She also kindly gave us some farm fresh eggs to cook in the morning. Quick drive to State Street.

    Jack2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I (2 adults, 2 kids ages 3 and 6 years old, 1 dog) truly enjoyed staying at Le Petit Ranche. Monique is an outstanding hostess! It was easy to communicate with her. She was very accommodating, helpful and kind. The highlight for us was that she allowed the kids to help feed the animals and collecting eggs each morning, which they especially loved. The apartment was very comfortable and well situated. It is an easy drive to Hendry's beach where dogs are allowed, which was perfect for us. Getting to all of the other fun stuff in Santa Barbara did require a car, but the experience of staying on the ranch was definitely worth being a bit further from the action of down town State Street. We would definitely visit again and make Le Petit Ranche our home away from home!

    Sara2018-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Monique's ranch. Great amenities, friendly animals. Monique was a great host, introduced my kids to her animals, gave us good tips about places to visit and dine at. Location is great, close to downtown SB but very quiet and peaceful. We plan on coming back staying at the ranch again.

    Natasha2018-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of 4 (including 2 children- ages 2 & 3) had a nice stay at the Ranch. We especially loved the animals and the view. It was a bit funky, as described, but overall comfortable and clean. The apartment might be better suited for children a bit older because of a few little details (like steep steps, low balcony railing, missing screen). The roosters weren't too loud either, which was nice. It was also nice to have access to the pool, however it was an extra fee (as listed).

    Kate2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Small and tired place with old furnishings. Monique was a charming host and gave us many tips and advice. Also some delicious eggs and figs from the garden.

    Miles2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • What a great time we had at Monique's place! It's right in the best part of Santa Barbara, so close to downtown and the beaches, yet it feels like a little farm. The apt is cheery and comfy with extra towels, pillows and blankets and a fully stocked kitchen. Cool ocean air pours through the windows every evening, even in the middle of Summer and the views are lovely. We watched hummingbirds from the private balcony every day at breakfast. Monique went out of her way to provide us with two fans (we like the white noise for sleeping), a water filter for the fridge, fresh delicious eggs from her hens, beach towels, beach umbrella and she was immediately available for any requests! She even had a repair person come, within a day, to make the overhead fan quieter for us... We felt lucky to have found Le Petite Ranch and would definitely return!

    Lisa2018-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • This eclectic apartment is just a short drive from the beach, great restaurants and attractions. Felt like we had a little bit of country on the edge of the city.

  • We absolutely LOVED Ojai Vista Farm & Hacienda and would stay there again in a heartbeat! Simply stunning grounds and home/guest house with every amenity. Wonderful hosts who were super responsive and accommodating. Highest recommendation!

  • Susan's house was clean, beautiful, views were breathtaking, location was quiet, peaceful and close to everything (short car ride). We have 10 girls and it was the perfect weekend! There is one room in the house that has no sound protection to the rest of the house and is off the kitchen- so put your deep sleepers there. The cottage outside was so lovely! The only downside there was there was no AC, so it got rather hot at night. I would stay here again and again. The decor was beautiful! There are also games in the cottage- so fun! The outside area is perfect, especially for big groups- lots of places to hang.

  • This place and this house are just gorgeous. Every need is met and every view stunning. Went with 9 friends and we had plenty of space and felt very relaxed leaving. Susan was an excellent host, and maybe better, was super casual about everything. This was the first AirBnB that didn't have a binder of rules and notes. She had already thought of everything and assumed that her guests were thoughtful grown ups. It was nice. We will be back!

  • If you are looking for a quiet, secluded getaway...this is the place! You will wake up to spectacular views with birds chirping. The pool is serene and a great place to relax. I would definitely stay here again!

  • This place is special. Hard to leave. My friends and I stayed for a weekend and it was heavenly. The house is beautiful and so are the grounds - surrounded by nature. We spotted deer, frogs, hawks, lizards, countless hummingbirds. Some of us saw shooting stars while hanging out in the pool. The power went out for a few hours while we were there (this was city-wide - not Ojai Vista Farm's fault!) and our host was so attentive to us, coming over to give us flashlights. Otherwise, she was very hands-off and let us be. Our stay was fantastic. Thank you! Can't wait to visit again.

    Alisa2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is magic. The grounds, the decor, the light, the attentive hosts. If it had been any better, we might never have left!

  • Every aspect of our stay was great. Peri is very friendly and so accommodating. This house and property are gorgeous and has so much space. We did some cooking while we were there and just about everything is there to cook with, just bring the food! Peri allowed the kids who were visiting to interact with the farm animals and gather eggs from the hen house. They absolutely loved it! I can’t rave more about our stay and hope to visit again in the future.

    Alison2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home with so much space for a large family or group of friends. I would highly recommend booking this home not only because it is wonderful but because Peri (owner) goes out of her way to make you feel at home in her own home. Her attention to detail is very special and here is a perfect example of what I mean: my cousin and I were chatting with Peri while we were helping her feed the animals and my cousin mentioned that her and I love juicing fruits and vegetables. The next morning Peri brought us fresh made carrot and apple juice!!!! Peri is wonderful and her home is gorgeous.

    Stella2018-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Peri was a wonderful host and the house was beautiful. The location was great and house was perfect for accommodating a large group. Peri was very fast to respond and super helpful with whatever we needed.

    Evan2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely weekend at Zen Farms! Upon arrival, Peri met us and walked us through some basics with the home. They have a really great sound system which was playing music, fresh flowers inside the home -- it all created a nice environment for our first impression. The house is lovely -- great big spaces, nice kitchen with all the amenities, plenty of room for our group (6 adults and 6 children). All of the bathrooms were stocked with soaps, towels, etc. There was a ton of extra bedding (pillows, blankets, mattresses) for the bedrooms. It's located just off the road over 5 acres of land and is a very serene, beautiful place. There were nice outdoor areas for the kids to run around and play, and the adults to enjoy a glass of wine. It was a great setup! Peri was absolutely wonderful -- she could not have been more hospitable. She asked if we wanted to be involved in the farm activities and of course, with 6 children, we jumped at the opportunity. So every morning and evening, we met Peri at the farm and the kids "assisted" her in feeding, grooming, petting the animals and collecting eggs for our breakfast. It was such a unique, amazing experience for the kids! Peri was so patient and kind to them and involved each of them in the process -- which was not an easy task with kids ranging in age from 1.5 yrs old to 6 yrs old! I cannot say enough positive things about our experience. We had a lovely weekend and definitely plan to return in the future!

  • Peri was a great host, she took the time to feed and care for the animals with our group of 9 kids, ages 3-13 and everyone was loving it! The house was very well equipped and check-in, communication, etc. was super easy. Definitely recommend and will come back in the future.

  • This place is heaven amidst nature. This is first time I stayed in such remote place far from busy City Life which is exactly what we wanted. So many deer sighting morning and evening across our cabin! Once inside the cabin, you won't even feel to go out. Angie is super host, she took care of every single even smaller details to cater the needs of her guests. Breathtaking view from balcony and bed rooms! I wish could stay longer here. The house is spacious enough to accommodate a big group. The drive to Huasna valley from Arroyo Grande is also an awesome experience. I must recommend this place to everyone who planning to stay close to highway 1. I must say it was an experience of lifetime. Thank you Angie for everything.

    Sandip2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Angie's Cabin was very nice and exactly as listed. The place is far enough from the main house that you get a lot of privacy and the only immediate neighbors you have are a few cows. Our group was went up for a wedding and with the 6 of us, we were able to segregate ourselves in the house when we needed to and enjoy the group when we meet for meals or board games that were provided in the house. Being off the grid was also refreshing! Angie took care of all our needs and was easily available for whenever we needed. Highly encourage to follow her directions to the place, as in (Hidden by Airbnb) makes you go through a street that is blocked off by the owners. I would recommend her place for small or larger groups and her as a host!

    Adam2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Angie was very responsive to all of my questions. Just make sure you follow her driving directions carefully because it is easy to get lost in such a remote location. The cabin itself was beautiful and a very relaxing getaway.

    Lisa2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Angie's place matched her description. Great place if you're looking to get a way.

  • Beautiful house in a peaceful setting! Perfect retreat for a group of 5-6. Make sure to get any provisions before leaving the town, as there are not any stores after.

  • Great location to feel “away” from the world!

    BrentandMelissa2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I loved the Ananda Log Cabin. Really beautiful. Lots of space, very cozy, surrounded by trees, hills, birds, bunnies, etc. Perfect for people who wants to get away from the city and get some real rest. At the cabin you have pretty much everything you need.

    Jose2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. From the beginning everything went smoothly. Communication with Angie was effortless. The house is very secluded, but directions were concise and easy to follow. The home is very spacious with amazing views in every direction. It was clean, comfortable beds and extra blankets, pillows and towels readily available. The house was well stocked with enough dish ware, utensils, pots and pans. Although the appliances and furnishings may seem a little dated, it doesn’t matter since ever other aspect was perfect. Don’t hesitate to book this home, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Angie!

  • Lee is a wonderful hostess - warm and caring, and generous with her home. She took time giving us a tour of the house and back yard and helped us decide on a place for dinner. My friend Tess and I stayed in the room with two beds and were very comfortable. There was a nice couple staying in another room, and Lee came home later with her lovely and polite son. There is a cozy intimacy about being in Lee's home, yet you feel perfectly comfortable making yourself at home in the kitchen, back yard or sitting room.

    Anna2014-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place was exactly what we were looking for and felt like a home away from home. Lee was such a great host and made us feel so comfortable. After spending 5 days here we didn't want to leave! Avocados everywhere, fresh free range eggs, bikes to borrow and every accommodation we could ever need. A rustic oasis minutes from the town and the beach. There's no question we will return the next time we're in the area! We already miss it.

    Amanda2014-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Rustic Avocado Ranch is incredibly charming, fun and Lee is the absolute sweetest host! We had a lovely time around the campfire and we ate a lot of delicious freshly fallen avocados. If you are going to visit Carpinteria, I would highly recommend making this your home away from home.

    Siobhan2014-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a very relaxing time at the Rustic Avocado Ranch. Lee is an amazing host, up-keeping a charming house and grounds with fun amenities such as ping pong, darts, fire pit , delicious breakfasts, etc.. The ranch is also a close drive to downtown Carpinteria, Summerland, and Montecito. If you are looking for a rustic get away, this is the spot!

    Edith2014-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful two and a half days stay at Lee and her families' house! This place is charming and peaceful down to every little detail. We were warmely welcomed by Lee's son Anthony and little Grace and felt home straight away. Since it were the last days of our vacation it has been just perfect for us. We relaxed and 'let our spirits flow' and spent a whole lot of more time at the Ranch than initially planned b/c we liked it so much. Ever fell asleep to the soft sound of a ripe avocado falling from a tree? We highly recommend staying at the Ranch! Thanks so much for welcoming us in your home, esp. Lee and Anthony! We'll come back if we get the chance. Daniela & Alexander

  • What a great experience. Spending time at the ranch reminded me of how much I missed California. Every moment was relaxing. Lee's place is quiet and charming. I spent hours just sitting in the backyard talking with a friend I'd come to visit in Carpinteria. Seven minutes from downtown and beach by car. Lots of local shops and restaurants. Put the The Cajun Kitchen on your list. While there I met other AirBnBs from New Zealand and England. Lots of fun. I will definitely come back to the ranch as soon as I can.

  • We had a brief one night stay, but were delighted by the location, the comfortable accommodations, and staying in a true avocado grove! Lee was a great and friendly host, even having freshly made guacamole when we arrived. We even got to take a few avocados with us for the road.

    Cary2014-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a warm and wonderful 2 night stay. Lee, Anthony, and Grace were gracious hosts and shared their world with us. Lee made us a great breakfast. When was the last time you got your own fresh eggs from a real hen house or collected a few deliciously ripe avocado's? I felt refreshed and reinvigorated after staying there for just two short days. We'll be staying there again in the future.

  • Staying in Lee's place was spectacular. It felt like home the instant I walked in. Rustic simply wouldn't do it justice. Under the shade of avocado trees, a spacious backyard with amazing furniture, a garden, hammocks, chickens, chicks, the list goes on. Lee was so accommodating, friendly and thoughtful. If you're looking to stay in a home away from home, I wouldn't look any further. I honestly couldn't recommend a place more than I'd recommend this one.

    Scott2014-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • I had a lovely time in Carpinteria and at Lee's home. She and her son were most helpful. She arrived home just before I did (after at least one 24 hour shift as a caregiver) and was both helpful and gracious. The home is beautiful, rustic as described. It has much character and does feel a bit like stepping back in time (which is what I was looking for). As others mentioned, the bedroom was a little dark (I stayed alone in the room with two beds) but there were a fair amount of candles, so the ambiance was nice. Though breakfast wasn't made due to Lee's schedule, I enjoyed making breakfast in the older kitchen with fresh eggs, delicious strawberries and yummy cinnamon toast. The backyard is so picturesque and relaxing. There are a couple hammocks, lots of seating, and little nooks and crannies to explore. There were chickens and new chicks to see when I was there, and the other guests brought friends over during the evenings. While I was looking forward to a quiet time away, and I the additional people were no imposition. I loved resting in the hammocks while listening to avocados plop from the trees into the leaves below. Very peaceful. If you're looking to luxuriate in a large and/or private bathroom, or have every fancy amenity provided to you, you may want to look elsewhere. However if you are looking for a beautiful little place to simply and rest, I would definitely recommend a stay at Lee's home. If you decide to visit Carpinteria, definitely take a drive through the Santa Ynez mountains (Hwy 192 is right around the corner from the ranch). The beach is no more than 5-10 minutes away, and you're minutes from downtown (despite the ranch feeling so tucked away). Santa Barbara isn't far either. It really is a special little surprise.

    Elizabeth2014-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • amazing spot, so close to town and beach but private, like a little enchanted forest. We loved it! Thank you Lee and family.

    Betsy2014-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • While our busy itinerary in Carpenteria prevented us from meeting Lee in person, my girlfriend and I felt as if we were always welcome. A lovely, quiet setting, but very convenient to town and the beach. The other two rooms were filled by great guests as well. Should my travels ever bring me back to the area, I know where I'll be staying.

    Andrew Loeb2014-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • The ranch was exactly as described and even more breathtaking in person! I loved staying here, and will absolutely do so again if I find myself on this part of the coast. Lee is an amazing woman and a fantastic host. I enjoyed having the chance to get to know her.

    Katrina2014-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • I frequent Airbnb's but I don't book them exclusively for my travels because every once in awhile the Holiday Inn Express serves the purpose at the time. But if every Airbnb was Rustic Avocado Ranch, I'd never surf on the AAA website ever again. It not only was as one of these should be, it transcended that. Lee (and by extension, her son Anthony and his gal pal) is the quintessential innkeeper: a warmhearted caretaker who avails herself to conversation but knows the value of leaving her guests to their own devices. So, Reciprocity and Balance, two things I personally value in other people. The RA Ranch (never saw ONE Alligator Pear Rustler unless you count the squirrels) has multi-themed (maritime, aviary-esque, familial, Catholic, etc.) and eclectic artifacts adorning nearly every inch of wall space, so a visitor could spend an entire afternoon as if in a museum. My favorite touches: the pour-over coffee set-up for both mornings (strong AND laced with cinnamon, so perfect for me), the pot of soup for self-serving upon arrival, the kitchen wall hanging devoted to the art of Guacamole, and that ocean-ward chair on the porch I used for two sessions of night reading. There was an open, inviting, ready-to-play backgammmon board on that porch that I regret now not having engaged Lee over in a best -of-7 while steeping pots of tea, but travel weariness and a need to continue reading the Steinbeck brought on this trip as is habit prevented. An oversight, yes, but one that is easily rectified with Second Visit. Which will happen. I never need an excuse to go to Carpinteria, but I have an official one now...

    Brad T2014-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • All of the reviews that we read before booking were accurate--Lee really sets the standard for hosting airbnb! The house is rustic, which means some creaking floors and critters here and there. But everything is so charming and comfortable! Much better than the pictures, really. We felt right at home and welcome. I enjoyed talking with Lee about her hosting experiences, since we also began hosting about two months ago and had never been a guest before. It was a perfect opportunity, since my husband and I were in Santa Barbara/Carpenteria for a wedding. The night before the wedding, we shared wine with Lee and her other guests. In the morning, we stood in the kitchen, talking, while people took turns cooking eggs. It was a relaxing, interesting experience--I hope that we can come back someday. Thank you, Lee!

This place is on a small ranch very close to UCSB, Home Depot, Costco and the Glenn Annie Golf course. A private gate to get onto the property. Super quiet and peaceful but very close to town. Only 12 minute to downtown Santa Barbara.

This is rural, but less than 5 minutes to Starbucks
  • This place is really awesome. Beautiful location, very nice overall. BUT there was no internet or cable TV and when we asked John he just shrugged and said no there isn't. When we said we would need the internet to be fixed, John said he would look into it, and there was a new modem delivered the next day but still no service for the entire stay, or any word from John. ALSO, we had to flip the breaker every time we wanted hot water and a number of times our hot showers turned to cold in the middle--never a nice experience. John made no offer to have the problem resolved except to tell us about the breaker. The place was still worth it but we would have appreciated some action from John or an offer of a night's refund OR at the very least an apology for the erroneous listing information and cold shower.
