Temple or shrine
“One of the most interesting features of this temple is its huge bronze statue of Confucius, five meters high and one of the tallest in the world. In its look, the building is more Chinese in style, which is appropriate as it’s a Confucian temple. Historically it’s also significant because the modern Japanese educational system has deep roots here. Near the statue of Confucius is a very dramatic Chinese pistache tree. These are very rare to find in Japan—this particular one grew from a seedling planted near Confucius’s grave in northeastern China, and was then shipped here to Japan. It’s considered a holy tree in Confucianism.”

“AKB48 is a massively popular, manufactured J-pop group made up of girls, girls and more girls. Forty-eight of them in several troupes. They are so hot, they’ve created official spin-off clones in several other Asian countries. The phenomenon got its start here in Akihabara - that’s what AKB stands for. They have nothing to do with electronics and technology but everything to do with boyish fantasies. ”

Toy / Game Store
“When otaku dream of heaven, it probably looks a lot like this giant go-to store for manga and anime. Eight storeys are piled high with comic books and DVDs, action figures and cell art just for starters. The 5th floor, in all its pink splendour, is devoted to women’s comics, while the 4th floor is for men. Mandarake’s original branch is in Nakano . Other branches include Shibuya and one in Ikebukuro that specialises in manga for women. ”

“Kyushu Jangara Ramen is a Hakata ramen chain restaurant that boasts five franchises within the city, offering quintessential Hakata ramen--tonkotsu (pork bone) soup and extra-thin noodles. You can choose combinations of several types of soup and toppings. The soups include the basic and simple "Jangara," the fatty "Bonshan," the median between the two extremes, "Kobonshan," as well as the spicy "Karabon." You can get refills on noodles if you call for "Kae-dama," but keep in mind that you won't get more soup. Remember to keep enough soup to enjoy your Kae-dama when you order one. Also, the "Kakuni" (stewed pork block) and "Chashu" (pork tenderloin), and "Aji Tamago" (flavored boiled egg), are also excellent topping choices.”
