Lighthouse
“Mosquito Bay is the best place in the world to see one of nature’s most fascinating spectacles: bioluminescence. Located on the isle of Vieques, off the eastern coast of the main island, this sheltered inlet is home to a special kind of plankton, called dinoflagellates, which emit a blue-green light when agitated. On their own, they’re barely perceptible. But here in Bio Bay, as it’s also known, there are enough to hold the Guinness World Record for the brightest bioluminescence ever recorded. That’s incredibly rare. While the phenomenon occurs spontaneously around the globe, there are only six places on the planet where it does so regularly. Of those, Mosquito Bay is by far the brightest. Come and see waves shimmer like disco lights or sparks trail from your fingers like the tail of a comet. At night, when its easiest to see, it’s like floating in liquid stars. See it: A kayak tours is the best way to experience Mosquito Bay (some have see-through bottoms). Time your visit with a new moon. biequecotrips.com”

“This calm oasis on the main strip of Esperanza serves possibly the best food on the island. The prices are higher than most, but well worth it. Great local seafood, fantastic cocktails and inventive, flavorful cooking make this a standout. Vegetarian dishes are standouts as well.”

“It's a little bit of a walk through mostly picturesque jungle-like setting to this beautiful black sand beach. Great for swimming and its dramatic sand and bluffs, it gets crowded, so plan to visit early or in the later afternoon for a more serene visit.”

“This is my all time favorite restaurant and not just because the helm is commanded by a woman chef!. Mahi bites and salads for lunch that are spectacular. Excellent dinners with oceanside dining. And who can ever thank them enough for the 100's of meals they provided for free during the aftermath of the hurricanes in 2017! If the namesake drink is available definitely order a Bili”

“El Blok is a newer modern boutique hotel in Vieques located in Esperanza. They have an upscale dinner menu and are a great option for a more upscale dinner - but our favorite reasons to visit are 1) the Sunday evening sunset happy hour on the rooftop bar with the best sunset views in Vieques, and 2) the downstairs bar - which has the best craft cocktails on the island.”
