Extremely fresh brown-rice sushi. I've been eating here since Homma opened -- about 20 years ago. Besides sushi, he offers soup and a nice salad. No other Japanese food is offered here.

Absolutely the best pizza in Palo Alto. They use sour-dough crust--thin or thick; also a nice salad bar, spicy wings, bread sticks, a great selection of on-tap beer, lunch and happy hour specials.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, inside Antonio's Nut House, my favorite bar in the area. Jose and Maria use only quality ingredients. The food is muy sabrosa. Carnitas are the best around.

My favorite Thai. Ricky, the owner, is super congenial. Unlike many Thai restaurants, the chicken doesn't come to you overcooked and stringy. Good value, great taste.

Breakfast specialties plus excellent sandwiches and multi-course meals for lunch. Not open for dinner, but if you need to meet someone for breakfast or lunch, this is great.

Freshly roasted coffee beans go into the making of the most delicious coffee in Palo Alto. Their Masala Chai is the real thing; extra spicy with ginger. There's only a few places to sit. They also have a selection of licorice from many countries and every kind of chocolate from San Francisco or as far as Vietnam.

Everything offered here is delicious, but the greatest thing about Flemings is their Happy Hour, where you can get the best burger in town for about half-price.

My favorite burger in town. The original place was in LA and thought to be the best burger there. The buns are what we used to think of as normal size. The truffle cheeseburger is incredible as are the onion rings. Be aware that they cook the burger one level less done than ordered.

I include this only because it's a trendy place techies and youngsters like. The food is really, really good. I don't go because I don't like the owner, but that's a long story.

Everything Else

Higher priced than some of my other recommendations, but worth every penny. Local, sustainable, scrumptious food, seasonal menu. Lovely patio. Full restaurant with bakery/cafe next door.

Lovely outdoor mall that is enjoyable even if you can't buy any of the pricey goods here. All the biggies are here -- Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomies, plus high-end stores such as Tiffany, MIchael Kors, BCBG, and many more. http://www.simon.com/mall/stanford-shopping-center/stores

Lovely Farmer's Market on Sundays, year-round. Even if you're not in the market for take-home cooking supplies, they have a delicious variety of ready made foods, including Indian, Mexican, Raw, Chinese Dim Sum, and my favorite, a sandwich place at end of food stalls, grills the bread, the meats, and offers a vegetarian sandwich with a fried egg on top. http://www.yelp.com/biz/california-avenue-farmers-market-palo-alto
