Good food. Good coffee. Pleasant atmosphere. Located in the Old Traverse City State Hospital (now known as the Grand Traverse Commons), it's a good jumping off place for exploring the nearby trails and historic buildings.

Whirly's is a small small sit-down cafe with an outside window for ordering, and seating both indoors and out. They have ice cream and sandwiches and coffee. It's very pleasant. During the summer it's frequented by local baseball and softball teams, locals out for ice cream, and people passing through in need of something good that isn't national brand fast food.

The Little Fleet is a small bar featuring fairly local beer. In what used to be the parking lot, numerous food trucks are located. During the good weather there is outdoor seating and live music. During the winter, things move indoors, but it's always interesting.

It's a meeting spot for kids, college students, families etc. They have good food, mostly along the sandwich and soup line, coffee, pastries, ERG bars, and beer. In good weather there's outdoor seating.

The site of a former sawmill, the pond is teeming with wildlife. The dam still exists and there's a trail that goes up the hill adjacent to the pond, that has beautiful views. The park has a pavilion with grills and picnic tables. It's a great place for a summer gathering or a pleasant stroll. People fish here too!

The dunes are stunning. The Lakeshore stretches along part of the northwest shoreline of Lake Michigan, and the scenery is beautiful. There are historic farms and buildings along the way. Wonderful beaches and interesting trails. It's a popular place for riding bicycles. During the summer there are various festivals, tours, demonstrations, and lots of activities---organized and otherwise.

9922 W Front StThe dunes are stunning. The Lakeshore stretches along part of the northwest shoreline of Lake Michigan, and the scenery is beautiful. There are historic farms and buildings along the way. Wonderful beaches and interesting trails. It's a popular place for riding bicycles. During the summer there are various festivals, tours, demonstrations, and lots of activities---organized and otherwise.
There are numerous trails here---beautiful scenery and rich history. Some trails lead to the top of a very high hill with fabulous views over Traverse City and the Grand Traverse Bay.

This lighthouse marks the end of the Old Mission Peninsula in Grand Traverse Bay. There's a public beach and the water is shallow for a long way out. Picnic tables and grills. And there are mountain bike trails in the surrounding woods.

There are hiking trails all over. Brownbridge dam used to create a large pond here, but the dam has been removed and the Boardman River flows freely through this area again. There are extensive wetlands and gorgeous views from above the former pond. This section of the river is good for flyfishing and there are a coupe of good put-in places for paddling.

Brown Bridge RoadThere are hiking trails all over. Brownbridge dam used to create a large pond here, but the dam has been removed and the Boardman River flows freely through this area again. There are extensive wetlands and gorgeous views from above the former pond. This section of the river is good for flyfishing and there are a coupe of good put-in places for paddling.
This area is a good place to put a boat in, in the Manistee. On the other side of US 131 is a State Forest Campground, a good putting -in place for paddlers. The North Country Trail runs close nearby.

The beer is good. The food is good. They have live music frequently. You can eat indoors or outdoors. It's located in an old train depot, and sometimes people arrive in small train cars. It's at the downstream end of Boardman Lake and adjacent to part of the TART bike trail, so it makes a good end to a day of paddling or bike riding or just plain sight-seeing.
