(RECOMMENDATION) After a walk along the Kastanienallee and Mauerpark area, stop here for a drink or food. The very nice beer garden is surrounded by chestnut trees and there is also a small playground for the kids. In addition to the garden, they offer traditional German food in the restaurant.

Great place to see parts of the Berlin Wall and to understand the tragic situation in Berlin. If you are there, visit the museum and walk up on the tower. This place is good for information but if you want to have "a feeling" about the Berlin history and the crime regime, add "Gedenkstätte Hohenschönhausen" to your list.

Good museum about the history of the German Wall and maybe the most favorite recommendation in the travel guides. But a bit too expensive, we would recommend to got to Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer (Bernauer Str.) + Gedenkstätte Hohenschönhausen.

Daily tours in english at 10.30 am, 12.30 am and 2.30 pm, mostly done by former prisoners. When you plan to know about the history of the Berlin Wall and Berlin, combine Hohenschönhausen with a visit at the Mauergedenkstätte Bernauer Str. - this is much better than the Checkpoint Charlie Museum.
