We chose this area for its outstanding natural beauty and its wonderful amenities: When you are done exploring for the day, it's amazing to have a nice place to go for a meal. Or on a rainy day, you can easily spend a few hours in the local stores and bookshop! Here are our personal faves, but we you you'll discover (and share) your own.
This old landmark is the hub of Round Pond. Owner BJ and his wife know everything about everything. Come in the morning for Maria's to-die-for baked goods, or stop by on a Monday at 5 to hear the local musicians jam on the lawn.

Place to go for home-made bread or a great home-cooked breakfast. Sit in the sunroom overlooking the vegetable garden and watch all the birds at the feeders.

This is one of our go-to restaurants when we're too tired to cook or just want to relax in a friendly social environment. Bar and comfy decor make this a popular place for locals. Good food--their mussels appetizer makes a meal, and their home made potato "chips" are to die for.

An old Maine "Armageddon" market about 10 minutes from the house. We call it that because when Armageddon strikes and you only have time to go to one store for everything, this is it. But not in a supermarket way--in the old Maine way: clothing, homemade frozen turkey pies, liquor, beach toys...

This is one of our favorite places to eat. Nice atmosphere and great food--seafood chowder and the Publick burger are my go-to's.

Outdoor seafood with a million-dollar view. A must-try, but go for lunch to avoid the mosquitoes later on!

Wow. If you can only go out once, I think I'd choose the Damariscotta River Grill. The food is a cut above, and the ambience is splendid. Sit upstairs for the best atmosphere, and if you like lobster, the lobster risotto is to die for!

Had your fill of seafood and ice cream? Weatherbird, tucked away behind Main Street, is the place to go for more refined far: wine, chocolates, and gourmet specialties will appeal to urbanites missing their favorite upscale grocery stores.
