Fantastic little authentic Italian place. No Roman ornaments, just a simple decor with great and affordable food. It's a good idea to just order a mix of everything, as all dishes are quite small and best shared.

Move through the left entrance (where they're making all the food) and put your coin on the counter. Wait and get served. You can also order their food online.

Drinks
Oost is one of the finest neighbourhoods in Amsterdam for drinks. I can't possibly list all bars worth visiting, as there simply are be too many. As for clubs and other kinds of dancing venues, sadly, you're better of in the Noord and West area.
Studio/K is a restaurant, bar, cinema and (once in a while a) club in one. It's a bit of everything, done right. Sometimes there's live Jazz too. Fine place for having a drink. The terrace is nice on sunny days.

The Oosterpark is best place to enjoy the diversity of cultures of the neighbourhood.
You can grab a meal or a drink in the Generator Hostel, located right inside the park (North-West side). On hot days, you'll find many locals having a BBQ. If you feel like BBQ'ing yourself, buy a single-use BBQ at the nearest Albert Heijn. Get your meat (or veggies) at one of the many Turkish / Moroccan shops in the at Javastraat or 1e Van Swindenstraat.

Beautiful museum about the many cultures in the world. Located at the edge of the Oosterpark and within walking distance of the apartment. Bonus: there are no waiting lines like at the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum.

The maritime museum is definitely worth a visit. Far less busy than the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh. Even if you don't plan on entering, it makes for a nice walk.

Entertainment & Activities
Artis is a beautiful city zoo. The past few years, Artis has lowered the amount of species drastically, to enlarge the enclosures of the ones that remain. It's an ongoing process, so it's not perfect yet, but it's definitely a welcome change.

The Dappermarket is a nice (though busy) place to experience the wide diversity of people in Oost. At the Northern end of the market is a stall which serves some of the best Döner Kebab in the city. Don't expect to find anything on the market worth buying besides food though.
