With a story that starts almost 700 years ago, The Artichoke pub in Chartham isn’t short on character. It’s everything you’d expect from such a historic building - with old oak beams, cosy corners and exposed brickwork providing the backdrop to fabulous food and drink.
There’s even an old well protruding through the floor - now topped with glass to form a very special dining table, and the best seat in the house.
Outside, hanging baskets greet your arrival in summer, showcasing the old timber-framed pub in all its glory. There’s a lovely garden area too, perfect for a pint or two in the sun after enjoying the Chartham circular walk.

Built in 1380, the Westgate was one of seven such structures built to defend the access points into the city. Today, this impressive building houses a fascinating museum showcasing the history of the city along with its own storied past. A highlight for most is the opportunity to visit an original "felon's" cell dating from the early 19th century (the building once served as a jail and police station).
