Food scene

This is where i used to go to for a drink and decent pub grub. I think its probably the best place on Easter Road plus its just round the corner from the flat and is always a good starting or finishing point to an evening out. They often have live music at the weekend, a great selection of drinks and keep the menu fresh.

This is a fantastic little cafe just round the corner from the flat. They have an amazing selection of fresh breads and other bakery treats. You can sit in for breakfast, lunch etc or grab something to take back. Probably one of the best coffee's in Edinburgh too.

Its a bit further than The Mash Tun, but does some really great food from a tiny kitchen at the end of the bar. Its just a cool place to hand out and have a drink and some food. Not the over priced stuff you get in the very centre of Edinburgh and much more of a local hangout. If you cut through the shopping mall area, its only 5 mins walk from the flat, and on the way into town.

Great LGBTQ+ bar not far from the flat. Its been there for ever and does decent food and nice drinks. Its on the way to Arthurs Seat so after a walk around the park its a nice place to stop for a drink on the way back.

Technically the city centre, but really just one of the many places to explore in Edinburgh. Full of all the designer shops, top-end bars and restaurants and right beside Prices Street and the gardens. Views of the Castle, the Scotts Monument, North and South Bridge, Waverly station etc.

How could visit Edinburgh and not hike up the city's best hill. Offering amazing views over Edinburgh, out onto the Firth of Fourth, up to the castle and right beside Hollyrood Palace.

This is really one of the hubs for Edinburghs tourism scene. Lots of bars, restaurants and shops in a really old part of the city. Worth a visit day or night.

A little closer to the centre than Arthurs Seat, Carlton Hill offers similar fantastic panorama views over Edinburgh and the surrounding area. A bit easier to get to the top too and walking distance from the flat. Take a picnic if its a nice day and enjoy the views.

Conseils aux voyageurs

Se déplacer dans les environs

Uber, trams and the bus.

If its raining or just cold, i would recommend using Uber to get rides about the city. It's cheaper than the normal taxis and usually there are plenty about. You can buy a day ticket for the bus in Edinburgh, there is really just one company so if you get their ticket, you can travel anywhere in Edinburgh on it. If you are going to get into and out of town by bus, get the day ticket and make the most of it. I wouldn't recommend the tram unless you are going to the airport, maybe just for the experience.
Que faut-il apporter ?

Shoes and waterproofs

If you want to explore Edinburgh properly, expect to walk a lot. Bring good shoes and small waterproofs. Edinburghs weather changes a lot and being caught in a shower is no fun. The city is far from flat so expect to be going up and down hills all day. Pace yourself if you're not used to that sort of thing.
Manières d'économiser

Find local bars and restaurants, theres lots!

There are a hige number of bars and restaurants in Edinburgh. The ones in the city centre and quite expensive and ofter dont offer anything more than location. I always recommend trying to go to places a little away from the very centre that look busy. Anther favourite way i like to do it is by going bar to bar just having a couple of starters to share in each place.
Voyage avec enfants

If you have a buggy, take the bus

All the buss's in Edinburgh alloy buggies. If you want to get about town with a buggy, its much easier than a taxi and you just push the buggy on and sit very near the front. If you aren't sure, ask the driver to tell you when to get off, they all will.
Coutumes et culture

We like to joke

If you aren't sure, its probably a joke. Edinburgh has a great sense of humour and we love sarcasm. If you are talking to a local and they seem to be rude, they are probably just trying to have a laugh.
À ne pas manquer

Explore Edinburgh by foot

I always recommend walking about Edinburgh. Pick and area to goto and explore. The city is full of tiny back streets and weird and wonderful places to explore you will miss if you aren't on foot.
