This local favorite is on the sound side across from the Oceanana Pier entrance. More than great food, eating at Amos Mosquito's is a unique experience. They take care of you while you wait with a beautiful view off of the dock connected to the restaurant as well as cornhole games set up outside with additional seating. The fun design and atmosphere inside completes the overall experience.

Schedule a tour or take a tour yourself through the barracks, mess hall, hidden rooms, and other areas and get a glimpse of what life was like for the soldiers who once lived there. At the top of the fort, you will have a gorgeous ocean view. There is also a souvenir shop by the entrance as well as many walking trails through the trees and dunes in the area. Fort Macon beach is also known for great fishing. If traveling as a family, keep a close eye on small children as this is a military fort without rails or fences on the ledges.

Outside you will find more exhibits, watching areas for observing the natural wildlife in the area, and extensive trails to explore.

Fort Macon does not allow food inside the fort, but having a picnic near Fort Macon is possible outside at one of the picnic areas. There is a side entrance on the right before reaching the fort with picnic tables and beach access. There are also tables near the fort.
