Food Scene

Good God, the food here is delicious and fresh. The Forager is a winner. The pastries are some of the best in the city, and the bread is naturally fermented and hearty. Make reservations for weekend brunch.

Homemade kombucha; very different experience from store-bought kombuchas. Great if you like to feel your insides sparkling. The space is shared with Stripp'd Juices. Definitely check out both if you're into clean diets.

High quality juices and blends. Khoran, the owner, doesn't like it when you call them smoothies. He's very personable and down to earth. This space is shared with Inspired Brews next door.

The staff grows most of the food right on the premises. The menu changes daily because the head chef likes to pull things from the garden at various stages of maturation. The food is seriously good. There's live jazz on the weekends which adds a nice tough; the outdoor patio is a sweet spot in the summer. Best to make reservations so you can get in.

We have no idea how this place isn't packed all the time. It's excellent fresh, Mexican-inspired food, with the best guac we've ever had and mushroom quesadillas we never tire of. Closed on Mondays, which is upsetting.

Consider this your warning: this place is gaudy and loud. But, if you really REALLY like hot chocolate it's the best place to be for the richest, give-you-a-heart-attack chocolate drink in the city. Rene, the owner, is a hoot. Bring cash.

We are not sure what it is about this place that makes it so special. It's run by a Muslim family (we think from Morocco). They grow some of their food on the premises. They serve real mint tea, really good fish dishes, and the best veggie & cous-cous dish (Sof does not like cous-cous, but loves it here). The kind of food that makes our bodies feel nourished and whole the next day. Cash only.

Entirely plant-based food and beverages. Sugar-free. Interesting and delicious blend of Chinese, Burmese and American cuisine. No wifi, so take the opportunity to unwind. Pricey, but maybe you don't like to eat a lot of food at once anyway.

Drinks & Nightlife

A speakeasy with arguably the best drink menu in the city. Dress up a bit (no holes in your jeans, and no tennis shoes or baseball caps; you will be turned away for not following the dress code.) There is a small red button outside the door. Someone will come out and ask what you want. Say you're looking to get some drinks. Your attire will be judged. If you pass, you'll be ushered into welcoming room and given an orientation about the house rules. No photos, no phone calls. Cash only. You're looking at $14 per excellent cocktail. Closed on Mondays, which is understandable.

We are one block from the EL (Blue line, MFL) that spans across the city. Each way is $2.25 to ride, we recommend using the machines or visiting a kiosk to purchase tokens b/c it's cheaper. The EL goes to all stops between 30th St. Station and Spring Garden Station. If you're traveling further out, pay attention to the maps and sides/front of trains. The trains (A, B or All Stops) will correlate to the stops listed on the map.
