White Water river Preserve is fantastic for summer exploring. It is 20 degrees cooler in this area and has lovely park grounds for a picnic as well as wading pools. You can also get into the whitewater river which is fed from the Colorado River. Amazing stop.

This is a lovely park in the Sands to Snow National Monument. It is a segment of the Pacific Crest Trail. Good hiking and abundant wildlife. There is no fee to enter.
