The National Portrait Gallery houses a collection of portraits of historically important & famous British people. It was the first portrait gallery in the world when it opened in 1856. Nearest tube: Charing Cross

Take a train to London Bridge, then change for a train to Charing Cross. You can now explore Trafalgar Square, the National Portrait Gallery. You are also close to the theatre zone, Buckingham Palace, and Chinatown.
Fabulous gallery and wonderful restaurant on the top floor with great views over London. Can't comment on the food, we've only had coffee here but a beautiful place to experience.
