To everybody who visits the city, it’s likely to be the abiding memory of their trip: a moving (in every sense of the word) statue which slowly brings two lovers together for a short embrace, only for them to part almost immediately. The statue is inspired by a novel set mainly in old Baku, Azerbaijan; Ali and Nino is a sweeping novel of romance and adventure which tells the tale of Ali, a Muslim schoolboy from an aristocratic Azeri family who falls in love with Nino, a beautiful Christian girl with distinct European sensibilities.

The statue of Ali and Nino - a moving sculptural composition in Batumi Boulevard, is one of the attractions of Georgia's Black Sea resort. The 8-meter-high transparent, steel figures of woman and man, named Ali and Nino, move slowly to pass through each other and gradually become one. This process repeats every 10 minutes. The sculpture was created by famous Georgian artist and sculptor Tamar Kvesitadze. The monument has got the name of the novel “Ali and Nino” by famous Azerbaijan writer Kurban Said. The novel "Ali and Nino" tells about the tragic love story of Azerbaijan Muslim Ali Shirvashir and Georgian Christian Nino Kipiani. The events written in the book happened during the First World War in the Caucasus. The statue of Ali and Nino was created in 2010 and represents a symbol of love, despite nationality or belief. The statue is located 50 meters far from the "Panoramic Wheel".

The “Ali and Nino” moving sculpture in Batumi is definitely one of the most amazing and memorable sights in this Georgian Black Sea resort. Статуя «Али и Нино» олицетворяет героев одноименного произведения Курбана Саида — азербайджанского юношу Али, который полюбил грузинскую девушку Нино. Архитектор памятника грузинский скульптор Тамара Квеситадзе. Семиметровые скульптуры примечательны тем, что каждый вечер фигуры Али и Нино, меняя положение каждые десять минут, медленно двигаются навстречу друг другу, до тех пор пока не сольются в одно целое. Али и Нино ❤️ Один из главных символов Батуми входит в ТОП-15 самых крутых памятников планеты. Две 7-метровые фигуры на движущейся платформе то отдаляются друг от друга, то сближаются, буквально проходя друг друга насквозь. И так каждый 10 минут. Фигуры Али и Нино являются персонажами одноименного романа, написанного предположительно в 1918 году. В романе описывается жизнь и любовь азербайджанского парня из знатного аристократического рода Али хана Ширваншира и грузинской красавицы княжны Нино Кипиани. Они стали олицетворением противостояния ислама и христианства, восточной и западной цивилизаций, двух различных кавказских культур.
