Built in 1861 to provide slate for schools, this workshop now earns its coin making garden ornaments, place mats, picture frames, cake stands and other knick-knacks from this most Welsh of materials. You can also take a self-guided tour of the works and get great Welsh cakes from the on-site cafe. It's on the A487, 6 miles south of Caernarfon.
