Only movie magic could get kids on bikes from the Goonies house to Cannon Beach so fast. Parking can be a challenge in the summer but for visitors into movie lore, you’ll want to go. Less crowded is Indian Beach inside Ecola Park at the north end of town. By the way, the Goonies House is a private residence not open to visitors. You are asked to respect the owner’s privacy, though sadly many do not.

Catching a glimpse of the Haystack Rock (of Goonies fame) will take your breath away. There's really nothing quite like the Oregon coastline, so sneak away for a little day trip from the S'more to check it out.

This 235' sea stack is a short drive from Seaside. This iconic rock has tide pools at the base of it and sea birds living on it. Take a walk down the beach and check it out. I like to park next to Mo's restaurant where there is a public parking lot and restrooms and walk down to the rock. Some days there are volunteers available with binoculars to help spot birds and to look for sea life at low tide.

Maybe the best place to send people on the entire coast, says Boothe. “Not only are the pools crawling with life, but there are also people there to tell you about the critters you are seeing,” she said. “This is also a great place for bird lovers. You can expect to find sea stars, hermit crabs, anemones, purple shore crabs, small sculpins, mussels, limpets, nudibranchs, sea urchins, chitons, sea cucumbers, red rock crabs, porcelain crabs and birds - including puffins.”
