Great beginner and intermediate ski/snowboard hill. Great location for night skiing as they are often open until 9pm.

Located on Highway 80, West of Truckee, California, Boreal typically is the first area to open for skiing and snowboarding in Northern California. Although it is relatively small compared to other Tahoe area resorts, Boreal hosted the US Snowboarding Grand Prix in 2009.

Point of Interest
“Skiing and Snowboarding Lake Tahoe is a premiere ski and snowboard destination. With 14 individual ski resorts there is something for everyone. Mt. Rose is the closest and has the highest base elevation. It’s about 27 miles from here and has some excellent terrain for every ability level. If you are after more of the village and apres ski vibe we suggest either Northstar at Tahoe or Squaw Valley. Both resorts have ice skating rinks and huge villages for those who prefer shopping to skiing. Northstar has more beginner and intermediate slopes, while Squaw has enough steeps and cliffs to satisfy even the most expert of skiers. Don’t know how to ski yet and don’t want to spend a lot of money to learn/rent equipment then check out Donner Ski Ranch. A small little resort but perfect for first timers. ”

“A great resort with a great snowpack, I love Sugar Bowl. It's a bit of a drive from the cabin, but the distinct lack of cat-tracks and an abundance of powder are a strong draw... ”

“It shouldnt take you more than 3 hours to get to this ski resort where you can either go skiing in the sun for a day or stay overnight. There are also plenty of cabins for rent around Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake on Airbnb that are cheap and cozy. ”
