Step into nature Slow it down and enjoy one of Haliburton’s favourite hikes, or hit the trail at a run, and let the elevation give your a real workout. Our hike/run trail includes 4km of dedicated foot trail traversing classic Highlands terrain and offers spectacular views. This trail is rated moderate and winds its way up to the top of the hill through hardwood forests and fields. Once at the top, take in the panoramic views over Eagle and Moose Lake before working your way back down. Four interpretive signs along the route will provide some history of our namesake, Sir Sam Hughes; his summer estate, and what is now Sir Sam’s Inn and Waterspa; and the history of the ski hill started by the Bishop Family in 1965. It’s a great way to learn and celebrate the history of Sir Sam’s Ski & Ride while getting some exercise. Walk softly, and you’re sure to catch a glimpse of one of our many woodland neighbours. Deer, fox, turkey, chipmunks and more are oft-glimpsed, and in late summer, don’t forget to taste a few black raspberries along your way! We recommend you bring a walking stick and due to the terrain, and do not recommended this trail for small children. Dogs are welcome on hiking trails, provided they are kept on a leash at all times and cleaned up after. This will be strictly enforced! Trail is open 7 days a week, see Foot Trail Rates below for rate and purchase details.
