Tommaseo coffee is the oldest coffee in Trieste; it dates back to 1825, taking its name from the Paduan owner Tommaso Marcato, but later it was renamed Tommaseo, in honor of the Dalmatian linguist, writer and patriot.Curiosity: Italo Svevo wrote here and the Triestine Claudio Magris created his own masterpiece "Danube" right at the tables of this café
