“Lukumás are the Greek equivalent of donuts, and they’re made beautifully here. If you’ve never had them, be ready to lick your fingers. They use a fermented dough that is fried and glazed with sweet or fruity flavors then filled with chocolate, cream, or dulce de leche. They’re made daily so they’re always fresh. The coffee is fair trade, made with organic milk. Nothing beats lukumás accompanied by a good cappuccino. Depending on the season, they add new flavors and shapes, like hearts for Valentine’s Day.”

Café
“In Spanish “granja” means farm, and in Barcelona a trip to Granja M. Viader means you’re in for a chocolate treat. At Granja M. Viader, guests can order up churros and melted chocolate, a classic Spanish treat. Granja M. Viader isn’t just a sweet shop. It’s also a historic site, dating back to the mid 1800s when it did in fact operate as a farm in Barcelona. If it’s a hot day and warm thick chocolate sounds too intense, try one of the milkshakes. They’re just as thick the melted chocolate but will still cool you off.”

Cinéma
“A government-funded theater that does a fantastic job celebrating Spain’s film culture. They program full seasons from the country’s best auteurs. A good place to go revisit classics on the big screen and discover obscure independent filmmakers. The Filmoteca also has a wonderful library of film-related books, videos, and magazines.”
