Drinks & Nightlife

Paris is my hometown, and I always wanted to open a bar here. My place, Danico, has one of the most welcoming teams in Paris. Our drinks are made with the help of a lab and can take up to three days to prepare. The bar is part of Daroco, a restaurant I opened with my friends Julien Ross and Alexandre Giesbert. The Kota Ternate or any clarified milk punch on the menu. It's the first cocktail I created and is still my favorite. It's made with pandan, coconut water, rum, pineapple—all my favorite flavors. And Danico is the only place you’ll find it.

One of my best friends, Joseph Akhavan, who I used to work with at Mama Shelter, opened this rum bar with his girlfriend, Samantha. He's one of the most creative bartenders in the world, and his palate is exceptional. The space is sitting only, so it has a really warm and relaxed atmosphere. Get the Nutty by Nature, a rum-based cocktail with spices and vanilla. Plus a grilled cheese sandwich, the best in the city.

The owner of this place, Amaury Guyot, is in love with Japan, so there’s a lot Japanese influence. Some of the best French bartenders have worked here. It’s cozy, with a lot of wood and leather, and the seats at the bar are very comfortable. A Mystic River, made with pandan, a leaf from Southeast Asia. That’s my favorite flavor in cocktails—or any kind of food.

Candelaria is a mezcal/tequila speakeasy at the back of a taco shop. It’s always busy and always has a cool international crowd. Drinks International magazine has ranked it in the top 20 of the World's 50 Best Bars for many years now. Open the door at the back of the taco shop’s kitchen to enter the bar.

With a World's 50 Best Bars ranking from Drinks International magazine, this Marais bar has one of the best teams in Paris. Its unique cocktail menu engages all the senses with a collection of 11 drinks named for and inspired by works of art from Parisian and international painters, sculptors, and creatives. When you arrive, don’t try to open the little red door like a lunatic. The real entrance is just to the left.

Don’t be put off by the name! This is the best tiki bar in town, staffed by people who are passionate about what they do. Think tropical Polynesia. And rum—lots of rum. If you’ve been in a tiki bar before, you know the look: lots of wood, flowers, color—with all the staff wearing flowered shirts. Dare to drink a Smackombie! Then ask the bartender why it’s called that.

Sullivan Doh, an alum of Experimental Cocktail Club and Sherry Butt, only works with French spirits at his 10th arrondissement cocktail bar. The atmosphere is relaxed and there’s always hip hop playing. Also, I love the golden curtains. Weekends have a lively vibe with a mixed crowd of fashion people, bartenders, and artists.

Maybe the most Parisian cocktail bar in Paris! The café-restaurant looks like a Parisian bistro, but the drinks are very creative. One of the bartenders, Jennifer, won the Diageo World Class in 2016, the biggest competition in the world for mixologists. Other than the cocktails, you’ve got to try the meatballs.

This bar, which uses lots of wood like a ski chalet, is less well-known than the others on this list, despite being named the best Paris bar by Time Out in 2016. I would say it’s in the top five in Paris in terms of creativity: The barmen use shrubs, clarification, and other techniques. Ask for the clarified Milk Punch, made with coffee beans.
