Located in Jardín, Antioquia, a picturesque pueblo 3.5 hours from Medellín. Please note this tour is not in Medellín, and transportation is only provided from Jardín to our farm.
Your journey begins with a pickup in Jardín in our vintage 1954 Willys Jeep, taking you deep into the coffee mountains. At 1,800m elevation, you'll arrive at Finca Mariposa, home to over 6,000 coffee trees and breathtaking mountain views.
The tour begins with the rich history of Colombian coffee, to its rise as one of the country’s most important exports. You'll learn how the ideal coffee tree is selected based on altitude, soil conditions, and climate. See how seedlings are nurtured in shaded nurseries before being transplanted, and understand the years of care required before the first harvest.
Equipped with a traditional basket, you'll head into the fields to handpick ripe coffee cherries, just like local farmers. Walk among coffee and banana trees, identifying different coffee ripeness and learning how intercropping benefits the plants. After harvesting, use a manual machine to depulp the beans, then wash, ferment, and spread them out to dry under the sun. Climb onto the drying bed to feel the beans at different stages of drying and understand how moisture affects quality.
Relax and savor the flavors alongside a homemade snack, experiencing the full journey from seed to cup.
